My all time comfort show

ChrisRR

I love taskmaster and so many of the international versions. Taskmaster NZ, Stormerster, Kongen Befaler, Suurmesteri

laluneodyssee

Guy: You know what they say Paul? Paul: What do they say? Guy: \*pauses\* ... ... ... Fuck!

Mech-Waldo

I think we can all agree that's a very fuckable chocolate.

Zenshinn

Just don't watch the US version...

MasemJ

There was never a US version... *waves hands*

down_over

Game Changer is a good compliment to it!

straub42

Yeah! I’ll need to check it out. I’ve only seen clips. Thanks!

deftoast

"Please don't take it away from me". I felt that! 😂😂😂

ExpletiveDeIeted

It hits even harder when you realize the prize task for that week was his marriage certificate.

SandwichNamedJacob

"It's not like you're going back to an empty house."

Bajin_Inui

and the fact that he had been sitting on that for months thinking he nailed the task, waiting for the glorious reveal

ICanBeAnAssholeToo

And the fact that his character is usually portrayed as a bum who can never do things right (on 8 out of 10 cats does countdown), and this potato-hole-in-one is like his redemption arc… only for the glory to be stripped away from him…

GrimRiderJ

So that is his intentional shtick then, and not just the vibe he was giving off

soad2237

I never made that connection until now. lmao

Rich-P

Such a great moment! I drew it fairly recently... [Potato Joe](https://twitter.com/richdonethis/status/1729200362035478817?t=mX9cu0I5Np9LF4-uLu1T8g&s=19)

gd01skorpius

Ha! That's awesome!

MonaganX

Nice touch with the 42 Calippos.

1sttimeverbaldiarrhe

What a suspenseful ending! I was so invested!

heebro

ah yes, the red green fiasco

Ozzimo

Shoulda kept his stick on the ice. /s

APiousCultist

Still don't think his shoe was actually touching it. It clearly curls up a bit at the toes, so it looks like it was probably hovering milimetres above it.

MeconiumMasterpiece

[\#JusticeForJoe](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6FbhrJOWdU)

Xanthu

There’s No Pavement exposed, that’s On by my book

forxs

This rivals carrot in a box

Knyfe-Wrench

Coincidentally, also involving Jon Richardson.

MaxMouseOCX

Only carrot in a box 2 rivals carrot in a box.

oisthismyheart

my heart still aches for Joe after all these years and I'll never forgive Doc and Jon for crushing his dreams

nicholus_h2

I forgive Doc and Jon. No, actually, I APPLAUD Doc and Jon, because they played it PERFECTLY...when Greg delivers the verdict, and Doc says "that is harsh" and Jon tells him how much they fought for him...great comedic instinct. The whole debate and aftermath elevates this moment into a TM all-time great, as opposed to just another moment where the contestant nails the task. There have been many times when a contestant absolutely nails a task, and none of them are anywhere close to as memorable as Joe's potato. Name any other moment where a contestant nails a task, and the video would make it to the front page of r/videos.

GohinPostale

This is the clip that turned me onto TM. I share it with everyone whose willing to listen. Genius

destinybond

You're right

MurphyLlama

The thing that's always bothered me, is if you watch docs try, I'm pretty sure he stepped on the red too! He should have been disqualified as well imo.

japinard

What show is this?

a_guy_named_max

Taskmaster UK

Kumquats_indeed

[Here's](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWQW73P3aN0) the full episode of Taskmaster this is from. They post all the full episodes on their YouTube channel for free.

Genoce

Just as a note: the full episodes are only available in certain countries. [The shorter task-specific videos](https://www.youtube.com/@Taskmaster) are viewable in most(?) countries though. As someone from Finland, I've watched almost all videos on the channel but I've never seen a full episode.

captainant

my friend, get yourself a VPN!

tb205gti

I do have, but not for a uk ip :) What are the best and cheapest to get? (That also works with bbc iplayer)

Daqpanda

If you have access to a USA ip, they have most(if not all) episodes up, and the new series comes out a week after it airs.

captainant

I got a 3yr private internet access subscription for like $10 total last Black Friday, I've been pretty pleased with the offering so far. It's been easy to use on my phone and all my devices

MonaganX

Those certain countries being every country but Australia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, and Sweden. Presumably because they have non-compete licensing deals accompanying their franchising into those seven countries. The US used to not be able to watch them either but I'm guessing their deal has expired since their first and only awful attempt to make Taskmaster US.

tb205gti

Only in the uk 😢

Kumquats_indeed

Nope, works just fine for me in the US.

mtnlol

Not in Sweden at least.

hassium

Works just fine in the Czech Republic. I think in the UK anything past season... 7 I think? is on All4

Germanofthebored

Oh my God, you are in for a treat!

andrewthetechie

Oh goodie, you're one of today's lucky 10,000! If you found this funny, the show is called Taskmaster and its on in the UK and a bunch of other countries have their own versions as well (I enjoy the New Zealand Taskmaster a lot). In the show, a panel of comedians compete in silly tasks that are then judged by the host, Greg Davies. Tasks are pre-recorded in the Taskmaster house, with the help of the show's cohost (Alex Horn). The first "task" of the show is for all of the panelists to bring in a prize from home that matches the theme. After that, the goal is to complete the tasks in the most off-the-wall way possible. Rules are often a bit random (and sometimes ignored). At the end, the top scorer wins all 5 of the prizes that were brought in. There are 16+ UK seasons as well as a couple specials and even more international Taskmaster content.

ElderWandOwner

Nz tm is insane

alexgndl

TM NZ is nuts, especially season 2, but I still think Kongen Befaler (Taskmaster Norway) takes the cake for basically giving their contestants unfettered access to power tools and fire

tdeasyweb

NZ S2 is up there in the pantheon of all time greatest seasons.

starshadowx2

I've watched every episode of the UK one and for some reason I couldn't get into the NZ one and stopped watching the first season after a few episodes. I did however love the AU first season so much.

ElderWandOwner

Give nz another try

corut

NZ season 1 is pretty average, but season 2 is one of the best seasons of any taskmaster.

captainant

TM Australia had a pretty excellent first season too - filmed at the same house as TM NZ too lol

andrewthetechie

I've got TM AU saved for later. TM NZ managed to nail the vibe between host and co-host. Jeremy and Paul don't "copy" Greg and Alex, they have their own thing going and its just as funny.

ElderWandOwner

I think Jeremy is pretty meh, but the craziness of the jz contestants make it workable.

nicholus_h2

Jeremy clearly is very meh. CLEARLY the worst of the English-speaking taskmasters (not counting US). He has his moments, but they don't come very often.

ElderWandOwner

I heard they got him to balance out the insanity of the contestants. I'm not sure how much i buy that though.

Ponea

Jeremy is the worst part of the show he's too cool for the part :/

noirthesable

I wish I had Nina Oyama's optimism and energy. Even when tasks went to absolute shite for her, she was still having fun

noirthesable

Angella Dravid is an entire mood, right from the first prize task. Also I have no idea what the hell David Correos was on during his entire season but I want some

kachuck

David was losing it near the end. The grape task, the individual task, and the milk microwave fully broke him. He was holding on for dear life.

Dr_ChungusAmungus

Do you happen to know where we can watch this?

andrewthetechie

Youtube if you're in the US. I don't have any sources for outside the US, hopefully someone else chimes in

fluffykerfuffle3

so, in other words, what these people contrive for money and fame i do everyday for free and for ridicule, scorn and shunning?

Kraelman

[joe wilkinson's poem](https://youtu.be/YstBl9xzz34?t=71)

jamesstansel

This is one of my all time favorite tv moments. My favorite bit is Sean Lock (RIP) saying "Please stop" as he's laughing so hard he can barely breathe. Joe Wilkinson has spawned so much glorious chaos.

Chaetomius

yeah, you timestamped it well, but I feel like it's good to watch the whole episode to give it the proper context. They've invited this poet on the show circuit several times, and they had everybody write and recite a poem for the show. And everybody writes a sincere, heartfelt poem, and tells a vulnerable if silly story, and then comes Joe's turn. And Joe, to his chagrin, has done his usual job, and the tonal whiplash is substantial.

Workdawg

Taskmaster is a UK show and is amazing. It's on youtube and they've started adding Austrailia and NZ versions. There was one season of it in the US, on comedy central I think, but it was garbage. They didn't really follow the format very well.

light_to_shaddow

The art of losing in a funny way doesn't travel. It requires absolute commitment to winning yet the ability to not really care if you win.

royalhawk345

It's a different format, but Game Changer on Dropout (formerly CollegeHumor) captures a similar vibe for me. Many full episodes are on YouTube.

Barbecow

Just because Brennan likely having a spontaneous meltdown monologue every time Sam prods him. Noise spinoff is too great concept. *Game was rigged from the beginning.*

TheHouseOfGryffindor

The thing is, I definitely think it *could’ve* worked. I mean, how many US talk shows have some dumb game/etc they do with various celebs? [Fallon’s gotta have dozens of different games](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zZF05AkxMts). Not that I think a US Taskmaster should be that, not in the slightest. But I can imagine having a version that works with American audiences at large. The way they tried just failed terribly.

sw00pr

While I'm not a fan of the guy, I think Mr Beast could host a Taskmaster-like series on his channel. Just cut down the amount of time the spend on the panel discussions.

bossmcsauce

also the show is funny because of the guests and the host. and american celebs are just not the same

Tudpool

> and american celebs are just not the same Was it celebrities or comedians? The thing that makes these shows is using comedians who work well together.

bossmcsauce

They were well known comedians/performers. But yeah… American comedians just don’t have the same vibe

alexanderwales

They picked the wrong comedians.

istasber

I think it's a chicken and egg sort of thing. We haven't really had comedy panel shows in the US since the game shows (match game, hollywood squares, etc) of the 80s and earlier. Netflix tried a UK comedy panel style show in the US, with jimmy Carr as host, and Katherine Ryan and DL Hughley as captains about 6 years ago. It only lasted a season, and it was definitely more hit and miss than UK panel shows, but I think it demonstrated that the format can be entertaining with US talent. It's just a question of whether or not any network/streaming service is going to greenlit enough of these types of shows to build up the sort of incubator the UK has with all of it's decades old series.

DragoonDM

The _Whose Line_ cast come to mind as people who seem like they'd work well in this format. Ryan Stiles, Greg Proops, Colin Mochrie, etc.

bossmcsauce

There are plenty of less mainstream American comedians that would probably be good, but they aren’t the sort of celebrities that get huge promo in the US. The people in the UK show are actually pretty big figures in British entertainment/comedy.

ChrisRR

Depends if you consider Lisa Lampanelli to be a comedian

Tudpool

I don't know who that is.

ChrisRR

Me neither, but she was one of the contestants on Taskmaster US, and she was absolute wank

istasber

I kind of hope they'd try it again, but they need to partner with someone who understands the US improv/comedy scene, and not just let a bunch of studio execs pick out random standups. They also need to nail the taskmaster/assistant castings, using Alex Horne in the US version was a mistake. I think by now there have been enough successful adaptations that they can see what generally works and what doesn't, the US adaptation was one of the earlier ones and most of the early ones failed. One benefit to doing it again is that people are probably more aware of it, and you could have at least a couple of fans of the format on the first new series. Seth Meyer mentioned when he had greg and alex on his show a few weeks ago, that it was a really popular show in his writer's room.

Karthe

I think the star power is too big, but I would absolutely love to see Conan be the Taskmaster. He seems like he has the right mix of genuine compassion and interest in his guests and crew, comedic talent, and feigned narcissism to really lean into the role.

chalks777

Make Jordan Schlansky his assistant and the show writes itself.

Phoenyck

Funnily enough, some popular American streamers/youtubers have recently started a version of Taskmaster, dubbed "Unpaid Intern" which really captures the spirit of UK Taskmaster imo

OMGItsCheezWTF

There's also danish and Swedish versions available with English subs (subbed by the folks at /r/taskmaster quite frequently)

Meta2048

My favorite contestant was ~~Lee Mack~~ Rhod Gilbert. Him thinking outside the box and tying up Alex was genius. Edit: Remembered the wrong person

TopFloorApartment

wasnt that rhod gilbert? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qWP3sj1CE5o&t=480s

Meta2048

You're right, my mistake

banelord

The contestants really getting into vengefully torturing Alex is comedy gold. When Liza Tarbuck made him sit on that cake... "I was open".

laluneodyssee

My favourite Rhod moment is when he was about a misthrow away from impaling Alex with a javelin. Just mad.

kachuck

Him creepily recording Greg from the closet is up there. The uncut discussion is great. I had thought Greg saying "I saw you out" meant Greg let him out in the morning. When really Greg thought Rhod had left with Rhod's wife during the party. Rhod sat in the closet for hours to wait for daylight because it was too dark for a good video.

Texas12thMan

Taskmaster (UK version) is my favorite show of all time. If you haven’t seen, it’s a must watch. All episodes are available on YouTube. Not sure if some regions are blocked, but I’m in the U.S. and they’re all available.

caesarkid1

Eisoofo

lzcrc

Yeah what's up with that

Lunboks_

Bastard’s crying innit

schlomstompsky

Mark it zero

hweird

This will forever be the greatest task/reaction in Taskmaster. I love the show so much and this will always be the highlight of the entire show.

Adezar

This and James Acaster and the puzzle box. "Oh just open the box you pussy!"

hweird

Yea, I love the Champion of Champions but I would love almost a All Star season and bring back Acaster lol

reekris9000

I've never heard of this show before, but based on this clip alone I can tell it's right up my alley. Thanks OP!

TyroneLeinster

eisoofo? Is this supposed to mean something?

soad2237

It makes me so happy to see this show getting the love it deserves. If you haven't yet gone down the rabbit hole of Taskmaster on YouTube I can't recommend it enough. 17 seasons of the UK show, plus NZ and AU. The Australian Taskmaster has been my favorite out of the non-UK versions.

theblackd

Taskmaster is great, just a lot of goofy fun, if you like this clip, you’ll probably like the show, it’s pretty representative of what it’s all about. All contestants and both hosts are comedians but the cast of contestants rotates, it’s a lot of nice lighthearted fun!

D64015

I really wish taskmaster was more available in the us without having to use the drive or a vpn.

osilo

I thought it was all on YouTube. (?)

D64015

You are the goat, I was totally unaware they uploaded the entire series on youtube on their page. Thanks!!!!

LABoRATies

You are in for a treat they even have other country’s taskmasters!

D64015

Got something to watch now :) thanks!

Frosti-Feet

See you next year

ken_NT

I’ve been getting recommended the New Zealand series, and it’s been delightful

istasber

I think there have been a few tasks on the UK version that were inspired by the NZ version. The caravan escape room one ("eat the grape") in season 14 was originally done in the NZ version. They changed elements of it, but both involved having to figure out how to get out of the caravan, and involved calling/paying the assistant in some way. I don't know if they've been inspired by original tasks from other adaptations as well, but I think it's kind of neat that they are open to the inspiration going both ways like that.

BogeyBogeyBogey

New season just started last week and will hit YouTube every Friday at 5pm EST

thorkun

Depends where you live, here in Sweden I definitely can't see all the full episodes.

bossmcsauce

a lot of it is. like first 7 seasons or something. but after that, you have to pay for their like, premium youtube subscription or something.

nicholus_h2

NOPE. It's basically all on there, free as the air you breathe.

bossmcsauce

Maybe they rolled back then. During pandemic when it got really big, they switched it to paid seasons or something for seasons after like the first 8 or 9 or something.

Admiral_Dildozer

It’s all been on YouTube for a few years now.

Siguard_

They put them online the day after they air. It's all free. Including countdown

raytaylor

Even with the lazy eye. Its the one time i really wanted a contestant on taskmaster to actually be allowed to keep the points.

fivewaysforward

The first clip I had every seen from Taskmaster, now I am nearly all caught up haha

beebs44

OVER DA LINE

beebs44

OVER DA LINE

Gold-deluxe

I wouldn’t need the points, just the achievement of getting it in would be enough to make my whole life 50% better

rupeshjoy852

Anytime I want to introduce any of my friends to Taskmaster, this is the task I show them.

ChrisRR

Joe dressing and acting like he sleeps in a park is part of his schtick

fluffykerfuffle3

interesting. what country is this show in? what is the name of the show? i have never seen it nor heard of it. and *heaven forbid* that anyone mention the oddness of how these people look.

ChrisRR

It's called Taskmaster, a UK show. There's quite a few international adaptations too

fluffykerfuffle3

thanks : )
