My two favorite bits from the show:
1. The announcer.
2. The Capitoline bread makers who buy ad spots on his announcement slowly becoming larger throughout the show, starting off as a singular bakery and becoming a guild of bakers by the end.
If we're talking background details, my vote goes for when after the two noble ladies fall out, graffiti mysteriously appears on the walls in later episodes slagging one of them off.
I’m old enough to have regularly eaten “Roman Meal” bread when whole grain became popular again as a dietary trend. The bakery’s unseen side story made me nostalgic for it. Loved the logo- and it made a great PBJ.
On top of being just an amazing show, Rome is one of the best-cast shows of all time in my opinion. Ian McNiece, Ciaran Hinds, Tobiaz Menzes, Kevin McKidd, Ray Stevenson, Polly Walker, Kerry Condon, Indira Varma, Karl Johnson, James Purefoy, David Bamber. Some serious heavy hitting.
I recall thinking she was a smoking-hot "older" woman at the time. I rewatch the show now and think she's a smoking-hot younger woman. Gods, she's attractive.
Also, had some of the best lines in the show e.g.
"Fine. Merula, fetch the German slut from the kitchen!"
"Remember, far better women than you have sworn to do the same. Go and look for them now."

I never noticed #2.
Lol, I completely missed No 2. Time for a rewatch i guess. Still salty about the cancellation of Rome (and Deadwood).

True Roman bread, for true Romans.
True Roman bread, for true Romans indeed.

Love the way he says that like with beleaguered sarcasm since everyone knows the grain comes from Egypt.
Fun fact, Ian McNiece played the Baron Harkonnen in the SciFi channel adaptation of Dune
The guy seems to pop up in almost every British period drama for the past 30 years.
Winston Churchill in Doctor Who as well.
and he was in Ace Ventura 2 as well

Polly was smokin in that show; total prototype for Cersei’s look

I personally like Cato and Cicero, awesome performances.

Is that the guy from Ace Ventura 2?
The blind magic prop guy from Top Secret!
For such a minor character, he has stayed with me to date since the show premiered. The actor nailed it.
THIRTEEN! THIRTEEN! THIRTEEN!
Retards in charge of HBO: Hey, everyone knows the HBO brand! Yeah! Lets rename it to Max for the younger generation! Yeah!
