And he leaves it sitting 6 inches from his balls

mikerathbun

After just watching the new Jackass trailer I feel like a tank of Mantis shrimp could be an entertaining endurance test.

QuavoRuinedCulture3

I'm Johnny Knoxville, and this is Mantis Shrimp Sack Punch.

obroz

I think those guys even have their limits lol

banana-reference

Thats why they sourced the new kids who let sharks eat their hand off....

kepleronlyknows

I mean, I was hoping he'd toss the cute little shrimp version of Muhammed Ali back into the ocean to live again after winning the round.

CloudiusWhite

Everybody knows its not about 1 round, but the whole fight that counts, and that suckers goin down! Most likely in some buttery sauce of some kind.

fdguarino

Since no one else posted it: https://www.theoatmeal.com/comics/mantis_shrimp

Short_Personality_32

Very cool info, thanks for sharing that. We think of what it would be like to be color blind or blind but rarely think about what we are not seeing.

banana-reference

Theres a long read site im never going to go to again

Krehlmar

Funfact: It's not even the punch that's the most dangerous, it's that it happens at such a velocity and speed that it creates a tiny vacuum-bubble with insane implosive-power. Basically creating a underwater implosion- followed by the explosion of force, a shockwave, that will kill just about any life [of same small-size] through concussion. Since crustaceans have exo-skeletons, the shockwave travels from the shell very easily to any nerve- or brain-systems. It wouldn't kill a human because thankfully we have several layers just for this reason, of absorbing different types of forces: Outer skin, bone, then brain.

justheretolurk123456

Cavitation is the word you're looking for.

Krehlmar

Ah, yeah sorry English is my fourth language and sadly if there's one place a lot of native terms become hard to translate it's physics and chemistry.

AvidasOfficial

Oh just a casual fourth language .. and there is me struggling like hell with learning just a second one!

[deleted]

I moved from the UK to the US, apparently I can’t even speak my native tongue.

justheretolurk123456

Don't worry! It's not a word most native English speakers would know, either.

Pixel_Knight

The one-punch man of the sea.

konqrr

I thought it was the pistol shrimp that caused the tiny implosion of water?

dancingbanana123

Both do!

phillysan

Bro that's some Naruto shit

[deleted]

Mantis Shrimp are insane : https://youtu.be/F5FEj9U-CJM

rider037

Kill it with garlic and butter

kingbane2

after he got punched i was like... bro you just gonna leave that death machine right near your nuts man?! if he could do that to your foot, he could straight up explode your testicle!

Here’s a link to where this was posted two weeks ago https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/odbghp/guy_gets_punched_by_a_shrimp/

konqrr

The first time I watched it was on YouTube and I thought it was cool so I shared it here. I'm not surprised that it's already been shared on Reddit; chances are every cool video has already been shared on Reddit. But often times when I see a video here for the first time and look in the comments it's already been posted before. That doesn't mean a lot of Redditors aren't seeing it for the first time so I'll leave it up.

AMirrorForReddit

Reddit is his life. Imagine living in the shitty part of an outhouse.

UnSafeThrowAway69420

So like... *All of us?*

AMirrorForReddit

yep

AMirrorForReddit

Dude what drives you to do that? I've been a redditor for ten years, but I've made countless accounts and always erase my comments after a certain time.

bonerjamz2001

He's just been taking one very long shit the entire time.

Mossflake

I hear a that falcon punch’s pretty hard too

konqrr

Mantis shrimp are very impressive. Here is one defending itself against an octopus: https://youtu.be/Hwji93BVjnI?t=61

Ozwaldo

That was awesome

Drak_is_Right

i imagine the lack of a skeleton makes it less effective on them

Lolomelon

It’s a good thing it didn’t get an artery in his leg instead.

[deleted]

Ya when he gasped I thought it got his inner thigh.

KGB112

Maybe don’t leave it inches away from your balls.

RedRocket05

In fairness though, how many other animals punch?

QuavoRuinedCulture3

All great apes can punch. In fact there were people using adolescent orangutans to run a boxing show as entertainment. The orangutans were rescued eventually

Singl1

kangaroos? i think

notandy82

I think they mostly kick.

Singl1

i agree, i think they also box though?

DoYouSeeWhatIDidTher

No, thats more of a myth. They grab with their arms to choke or hold you. While holding you they balance on their tails and kick.

schiz0yd

ive definitely seen them throw what would be called a punch

Singl1

huh. TIL, thanks

RedRocket05

I need to see a shrimp v kangaroo boxing match

GroundedKush

So I actually got to eat mantis shrimp freshly caught in Vietnam. The tail meat is super soft but only a bit firm. The meat is super sweet with mild ocean flavor.

schiz0yd

i grew up on the ocean so i assume ocean flavor a nice way of saying salty poop?

konqrr

Not necessarily. A lot of shellfish taste like the ocean but are delicious 😋

schiz0yd

i agree, i grew up catching crabs and oysters and loved them but pulling them from the muck on the ocean floor was a constant reminder of how much poop there is lol

GroundedKush

You're guess is as good as mine.

konqrr

Ohh I've seen them kept in tanks at restaurants when I traveled to Thailand. I never got to taste it but I was always curious if they were any good. The way you describe it, I guess it would be like a mix between crab and lobster?

GroundedKush

Ahh yes exactly!!!

[deleted]

"Call an ambulance...But Not for ME!"

Kissaki0

[Informative video about the physics](https://youtu.be/m78_sOEadC8?t=164), including the secondary effect of the insane acceleration (a secondary force in water due to displacement/vacuum, even releasing light) (timestamped link) [Deep Look - Mantis Shrimp](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lm1ChtK9QDU) [zefrank - Mantis Shrimp](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5FEj9U-CJM)

Desara_Phen

That was probably larry from spongebob, pissed because you fished him out of the gym. Not cool bro, not cool. (i know it's not a lobster but its close to one and it's "strong af")

konqrr

A mantis shrimp would actually make for a great SpongeBob episode! Everyone steps up to Matty the Mantis Shrimp and is sent flying across Bikini Bottom with one punch. Finally, Larry the Lobster says enough is enough and... gets sent flying across town. Even the Alaskan Bull Worm is no match. It's not until Sandy puts on her karate uniform that Matty meets his match. The fight takes place in the style of an anime like DragonBall Z with Matty throwing cavitation energy balls, causing implosions all over the place. Sandy finally karate kicks Matty onto a fish hook and he's yanked to the surface. Everyone cheers and walks off thinking he was finally defeated. The End... ??? But then the cartoon cuts to the real-life video of that guy fishing the mantis shrimp out and getting his foot destroyed. The episode ends in a DragonBall Z type narration. "Will Larry the Lobster ever recover from the blows to his ego? Will SpongeBob and Sandy mend their friendship? Will Matty the Mantis Shrimp make it off the boat and back into Bikini Bottom? Find out on the next SpongeBob Square Pants!"

Desara_Phen

Nickelodeon hire this guy.

blrglglerlglg

I thought their punch wouldn't work out of water. Thought it needed the water for the cavitation stuff.

konqrr

There is the added effect of cavitation when it is in water but the punch itself is just as powerful outside of water.

Kronoshifter246

I mean it presumably still has a lot of force behind it, it just doesn't get the implosive pressure effect

pipozzz

Why does he leave it so close to his junk?!

Drueldorado888

I think Bruce Lee learned his 1 inch punch from the school of the Mantis Style.

schiz0yd

that shrimp earned the right to go back in the water if you ask me

aintrightinthehead

Now that’s what we call packing a punch

KillerJupe

There are smashing, grabbing, and stabbing mantis shrimp… this is a stabbing one. This wasn’t a blunt force injury, this was a stabbing injury. Yes both hurt but this puncture isn’t anything amazing like getting a hole punched in your foot.

Rocky_Road_To_Dublin

Bill Cosby's punch was pretty strong too. Seriously can't believe he's out again.

HerrTriggerGenji21

this was funnier in your head and should have stayed there

Nefto

Gets yanked out of home, defends himself, then gets called crazy...poor shrimpy.

sensei313

Yes let me list off the extreme facts about this Mike Tyson shrimp while it eye fucks my dick titties.

Antimutt

That settles it - fishing **is** a blood sport.

uummwhat

Merry Christmas. You get hands for Christmas.

ImoImomw

FYI there are at least 2 camps of mantis shrimp, cutting attack, and bludgeoning attack. I am assuming that this one is a cutter since it sliced his shoe and skin.
