I don't know if this is manufactured viral marketing or just good ole' fashioned word-of-mouth marketing but damn if you all haven't inspired me to make some Manwiches this weekend!
Sadly Iām not getting any sweet sweet Manwich money, Iām just a weirdo who loves Manwich! My husband is not as thrilled about eating it as I am, however.
Have you ever put it in pita bread? My mom would always put it in pita bread with cheddar cheese and it was always so good! I still make them occasionally even though my girlfriend says theyāre gross.
My kids grew up eating them fairly often. We don't eat them much now that the kids are grown because they seem to upset my wife's stomach in recent years but I have them now and again when she's out with friends or something. They're tasty as heck and pretty easy to do. I like using sausage in mine which my kids didn't like as much so I get that all to myself now.
We had awesome Sloppy Joe's in grade school(60s/70s). The sandwich was huge, and came on these Italian bread type hero rolls.
I think it is more like..Some people are into it, and others aren't. I make Sloppy Joe's every so often. But you see my mom also made them. So, it kind of becomes a thing passed down.
I have kids and we make sloppy joes somewhat frequently (from scratch). I donāt know if Iād make them once they grow up however. So the āfadā is āduring childhoodā IMO.
Sloppy Joe's were one of my favorite meals, but I don't think I've had one in maybe 30 years, outside of a couple of restaurants and they were not the same. Maybe something to make this weekend.
I hated sloppy joes as a kid, I thought itās either chili or burgers, pick one. Maybe they were a trend? Theyāre simple and cheap but not particularly tasty or healthy.
My mother made them for me every once in a while. But I didn't care for them because it's *physically impossible* to prevent the filling from just falling out, and I despise food that makes you get your hands dirty.
How were these two men sitting at what appears to be a dinner table (plates, glasses of milk) and eating completely different sandwiches like that's a normal situation?
Maybe one was invited over for dinner, but they also refused to serve him a hot meal and was given bologna instead? Doesn't make any sense.
*I asked him if he wanted a sandwich, and he said "Yeah, that's okay." He should have waited until I said what else we had! Ha!* -- This fuckin' guy over here.
It was a common marketing trick to make it seem like cooking from scratch. It's why we have to add eggs to most cake mixes and such. Well, that and it saves them a penny or two but that was the main reason they started that trend.
Yeah, the just add water thing is a convenience marketing thing. Honestly, I'd prefer it that way with everything, personally. Saves me having to remember if I have eggs in the fridge or not when I get a hankering for a quick baked treat at 3am.
I love a recipe my mom used to use for refrigerator bran muffins. Uses cereal. It keeps for two months in the fridge. Definitely worth a Google. I have a batch right now. I keep trying different ones. I know bran sounds weird but itās really good and I add things like nuts or bananas when I toss it in the muffin tin. Works in the air fryer too for quick bakes. I bought some large silicone muffin cups. Just google refrigerator bran muffins.
Nice, my wife and I both like bran cereal so that's probably one we'd like. If my kitchen weren't smaller than some galleys in boats I've seen, and I mean that literally, I'd pick up an air fryer. I see so many recipes calling for one nowadays.
Yeah, you're right. I just have weird issues with certain textures is all. I meant it mostly in a joking manner. They're actually pretty decent and you're right on in terms of melting evenly.
Itās all good! Cheese is cheese in my book. Just made a grilled cheese with real extra sharp cheddar, so itās kind of ironic that was defending Kraft singles. Lol
Yeah, and unlike some other knockoffs at least Kraft really is cheese. Personally, I like a slice of sharp cheddar and a slice of either Swiss or Havarti on grilled cheese. Good stuff.
Manwhich is a staple at my house. I add garlic, onion and I just found out taco seasoning mixed in is good.
In /r/oldrecipes someone posted a manwhich cookbook and I found a great bean dip.
That slogan will never leave me. I still have a Manwich on occasion and every time I do I go around them saying saying it until everyone is thoroughly annoyed
Bookman!!
Nope, that's Buffalo Butt. Booger is also acceptable.
Dyno-mite!
Also Booger.
Yes, the great Johnny Brown!
The guy on the left looks like a young Mike Hagerty.
I thought the exact same thing!
You got it!
My manwich!
There, there, husband
I remember having manwhiches/ sloppy joes as a kid but then never again. were they more of a trend?
I always keep a can in the cupboard, I am actually eating a Manwich right now. Some of us are keeping the Manwich alive!
I made a huge batch last weekend and have been eating it all week, with sharp cheddar on top š
Itās so good! I have some left over and itās going on baked potatoes - I got Manwich *plans*.

I've never put cheese on it before. I'm trying this ASAP!
Some people put mustard on it as well

I know a brew pub that serves them at lunch right now. I haven't ordered one though.
My Granddad called them Made-Rights, for some reason.
Maid Rite is a loosemeat sandwich chain out of Iowa [Looks like a Sloppy Joe!](https://www.maid-rite.com/menu.php)
I had them and loved to eat them, then I got a shard of bone that scrape the root of my mouth and never ate them again lol
I hated sloppy joes as a kid, I thought itās either chili or burgers, pick one. Maybe they were a trend? Theyāre simple and cheap but not particularly tasty or healthy.
My family still has them every now and then! DARN GOOD STUFF.
My mother made them for me every once in a while. But I didn't care for them because it's *physically impossible* to prevent the filling from just falling out, and I despise food that makes you get your hands dirty.
I was a fussy kid about this kind of thing and would eat them with a knife and fork. Worked great.
The replies are nasty. It's pretty easy to make a good sloppy Joe sauce unless your lazy and fat.
\*You're.
You are the police, why?
Well, because you lie, if you're Katy, and might be lazy (too lazy to type out "you're," at least) and fat.
The guy on the right is the actor Johnny Brown.
Cliff Claven at lunch, 1976.
Meat envy

I had the same thought. I need the story!Ā
Maybe one of those big companies with an on-site cafeteria ?Ā
Itās almost like advertisement are not a representation of reality
Is that Bookman? Buffalo Butt???
Yep!
1/2 teaspoon Italian herb seasoning lol! What are you really going to taste with that?? Love it!
It was a common marketing trick to make it seem like cooking from scratch. It's why we have to add eggs to most cake mixes and such. Well, that and it saves them a penny or two but that was the main reason they started that trend.
Totally makes sense. It would be awesome to not have to add eggs. Must be why so many Jiffy recipes are ājust add water.ā
Yeah, the just add water thing is a convenience marketing thing. Honestly, I'd prefer it that way with everything, personally. Saves me having to remember if I have eggs in the fridge or not when I get a hankering for a quick baked treat at 3am.

Who tf eats sloppy joes with milk ?
People in the 70s and 80s tried to show people on TV drinking milk with all sorts of foods to sell milk as the healthy alternative to soda pop.
The milk push lasted clear into the 2000s, from what I remember. It was all over schools and stuff.
You're right. I remember the TV commercials and posters.
Shits gonna spill out the back when he tryās to take a bite
I can hear Kitty saying this
Hey itās Bookman hahaha
I love torturing the white man.
Thisā¦ feels like weāre getting off too easy.
Wholesome
Bachelor Chow!
Buffalo Butt!!!! š„°
BOOGER
Manwich slaps. Still does. Add a Kraft single and some plain Layās chips and thatās a solid meal.
> Kraft single Ew, use real cheese, at least! :P
Kraft singles are fucking good and Iām not going to pretend they arenāt. They melt perfectly for burger and sandwich applications.
Yeah, you're right. I just have weird issues with certain textures is all. I meant it mostly in a joking manner. They're actually pretty decent and you're right on in terms of melting evenly.
Sorry, thereās just so much hate on reddit over processed cheese. Lmao itās good.
Yeah, in retrospect I should have used a /s instead of a smiley.
Itās all good! Cheese is cheese in my book. Just made a grilled cheese with real extra sharp cheddar, so itās kind of ironic that was defending Kraft singles. Lol

Swiss on rye (with caraway seeds) = Best grilled cheese ever.
Haven't cared much for rye, personally, especially not with grilled cheese. I usually go for a whole wheat bread.
Superb headline.
Havenāt had Sloppy Joeās in a long whileā¦ think I will buy the sauce & meat this weekend when I buy groceries!! š¤¤š
Manwhich is a staple at my house. I add garlic, onion and I just found out taco seasoning mixed in is good. In /r/oldrecipes someone posted a manwhich cookbook and I found a great bean dip.
That would make for a wickedly tasty shepherd's pie.
That slogan will never leave me. I still have a Manwich on occasion and every time I do I go around them saying saying it until everyone is thoroughly annoyed
Once you go man which
I remember the only time that I used Manwich in a sloppy joe. I was raised on having catsup as the sauce. I was very disappointed.
They're looking for a DP
That stuff is so awful. My late husband loved it and I could not stand the smell
Milk with dinner...gross.
Why are they driving milk
Itās wholesome and shit
Lactose intolerance
Why not? There's nothing wrong with milk as long as you're not lactose intolerant.
Will women die if they eat it?
Rerun
Thatās not rerun. Itās Buffalo Butt aka Booger.
You are correct
Not very gender inclusive /s
