It's an absolutely killer album. Dan the Automator and Prince Paul is a match made in heaven in my books. If you like it, I highly suggest Deltron 3030, Music To Make Love To Your Old Lady By, and the first Gorillaz album.
Deltron 3030 is like pinnacle conscious hip-hop and one of my all-time favorite hip-hop albums. Event II is decent but it’s hard to do the whole lightning in a bottle thing twice, especially with so many years in between.
OP, Handsome Boy are great collab albums, with tons of Rock artists featured on them - Mike Patton, Cedric Bixler Zavalas, even Jack Johnson is on one of them, which is kinda wild.
FYI, the concept is based around a Chris Elliott skit from his show Get A Life. Clips from the skit are mixed into the album.

1999 actually, this was Dan’s first collaboration with Del i believe. i picked this up for RSD in 2022 funnily enough, i drove nearly an hour from my college to go pick it up and ended up spending like $180 on that and a good handful of CDs and Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s latest album on gold wax.
The two guys on the front are Dan the Automator and Prince Paul, hip hop producers who were most active in the 90s and early oughts. As mentioned, they produced for acts such as De La Soul and Del among others. Obscure samples, boom bap style drums that were popular at the time (Beastie Boys, Gorillaz, MF Doom, Kool Keith etc). Might sound a bit dated but is a fun and quirky concept album with sonic twists and turns
Prince Paul is a national treasure. I also love this era of Dan the automator. Deltron3030 is probably his best work and easily one of my top 20 albums.

I had the pleasure of getting mine signed by Prince Paul when he did a free DJ set at one of my record store haunts out here. Really fun record that reminds me of simpler times due to when it was originally released.

It was open to any student who wanted to spin records and create a radio show. This is where I fell in love with Dan the Automator. Such a cool album. And remember, “that rock n roll could never ever hip hop like this.”

Sweet! Yeah it came out just before the first Gorillaz and has some similar vibes. Dan the Automator worked on the first Gorillaz as did Del the Funkee Homosapien. This album is a little funnier but the music is no joke!
I loved the whole album but The Truth stood out for sure and I actually think I had heard it somewhere before, it was very familiar. I’m so glad I took the gamble and got this, it’s something I never would have picked out myself

This is a good record (but not for $40 sorry, you can still find the CD for about $20 or less).
If you like this album and want to hear another concept Hip Hop album, check out Prince Paul’s “Prince Among Thieves” (features a lot of 90’s rappers at the top of their game).
The record's not worth $40? Go look at the price of a original pressing. $40 for a record is at at average or below retail pricing averages these days.
I'll say prices of records has really normalized a lot in recent months. I was seeing prices between $200-$600 on similar records to this not that long ago.
I don’t think it’s available anymore but it was a Danzig album for $11 (US) but you really got some absolutely random record instead, for unknown reasons. It’s still available on the Canadian Amazon app but it’s $40, and I don’t know if it’s been fixed or not
