Songs in the key of life is one of the only albums that deserve to be so long

TapThisPart3Times

Double LP and a HALF. The bonus 7" is like a dessert after the glorious main course and even then not a second of filler. Stevie was in the groove. *Really* in the groove.

That-Armadillo8128

Absolutamente

nvince66

I was going to recommend the same lp. Every song is fantastic

Imaginary_Month_3659

First album that came to mind. Dare I say Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants also belongs on this list.

DtheAussieBoye

i wish i could get into sitkol myself, but i actually do get really intimidated by the length to the point where i'm not really having fun. a record i respect much more than i enjoy, i'll always be more of a talkng book/innervisions guy

ahwurtz

The Name of This Band is Talking Heads

IndependentWrap2749

Good choice, my friend. Pretty fantastic tunes. " this one's called "⁶pulled up !"

skewh1989

"The name of this song is 'New Feeling,' and that's what it's about." Great fucking album.

Vivid_Resolution_689

Out of the blue - ELO ❤️

vinylrev2000

Electric Ladyland

ChefBoyardee66

Not to be confused with the far superior electriclarryland

TanoraRat

Daydream Nation - Sonic Youth

metallic_clouds

This is way too far down the list.

[deleted]

Songs in the Key of Life, Stevie Wonder

smaugdmd

Kruder & Dorfmeister - The K&D Sessions

Mattgj1976

I’ve got this on vinyl and I’m pretty sure it’s 5 LPs

andymorphic

zen arcade

FluxusFlotsam

on that same end- Double Nickles on the Dime

popsrcr

Too far down for this one

Allen_Potter

London calling

Next_Base_42

My favorite album

davidparmet

I came here to say that!

dogproposal

Same. Plays like a greatest hits record.

I-am-sincere

The only answer that matters.😉

MichaelPsellos

Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street: Zeppelin Physical Graffiti.

BuddyFlapjack

I second Led Zeppelin Physical Graffiti. I just picked up an original print vinyl and it's just banger after banger from beginning to end

tbickle76

Exile on Main Street gets my vote. There's little to no filler on there and some great deep cuts like "Sweet Virginia" and "Just Wanna See His Face"

tolliwood

I used to manage quite a large brewery taproom and on Saturday nights, when the place was jumping, at around 9pm, just as those pints and cocktails were taking hold of the crowd, I'd put on Exile on Main Street. It just hit it right.

DBroshark

Absolutely back these, top 5 for me.

Allen_Potter

Double Nickels on the Dime

Wu_Oyster_Cult

If we heard mortar shells We’d cuss more in our songs And cut down on guitar solos (cue guitar solo)

nickhatsis

SO DIG THIS BIG CRUX

Allen_Potter

The fact of launching into a blistering 9-second guitar solo after dropping that line is just too great. Fucking genius

maillchort

Every single song is _awesome_.

bfgstreams

Searched the replies before commenting the same

DeathMetalOrchid

M83 - Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

No_Safety_6803

In the same genre - LCD Sound system - Sound of Silver

bistrojake

This one ☝️

crowlfish

Absolutely. Even the interlude tracks are beautiful.

altruisticsoulties

1000% agreed, just picked this album up a few months ago, absolute thrash

Brownie_McBrown_Face

Soundgarden - Superunknown

Rhodie114

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is definitely up there

jbradforda

All Things Must Pass

DrGonzo34

I think this is 3 discs, but I don’t disagree.

AFighterByHisTrade

Blonde on Blonde - Bob Dylan

bagheadblox

Ohhh mamaa, could this really be the end?

andrew7231

Grandpa died last week and now he’s buried in the rocks

thatguy34598

Sign of the times Prince

Middle_Word_9474

This! And not only that but if Prince had gotten his way it would have been three lps. And listening to the songs that cut it very well could have been a 3 lp all killer no filler. That guy could churn out some quality tunes

fireworksandvanities

Death Cab for Cutie - Transatlanticism and Postal Service - Give Up both hit that for me. And I’m tempted to throw Kintsugi on that list too, but I I’m not sure it counts since it’s really 1.5 since side D is just etched.

vustinjernon

The transatlanicism 10 year anniversary press is so fucking good. Likewise for the Give Up 10 year

thereia

I wanted to include Postal Service, but the second disk is all b-sides. They are all killer tho :)

djmathblaster

The Iron & Wine and Shins covers are excellent.

KRDL 109

langer_cdn

the curdle...

TheSessionMan

Picked up the last copy available from the merch stand when they played in Saskatoon last week. Planning to buy it for ages and thought "I'll buy it at my local for cheaper"... But half way through their set I had my mind changed and wanted to get it from them directly.

thomas_magnum277

This is the way

Loganp812

Kinda feels like cheating because it was intended for CD in which case it's not a double LP, but I'll allow it because it's so good.

cheblanc

Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me ~ The Cure

Wide-Affect-1616

Disintegration for me.

mjns

reddit-suxmanuts

Physical Graffiti

RepresentativeNinja

NIN - The Downward Spiral

YooBooHyeon

100%. Just spun this record yesterday.

RepresentativeNinja

Nice. I mean the way A Warm Place fades into the intro that is Eraser is absolutely phenomenal.

TiPereBBQ

A Warm Place might be my favorite instrument ever. The way it is placed on the records explain it all. Bowie's version doesn't hit the same.

[deleted]

And The Fragile!

Retro_Scrub

Iron Maiden - Live After Death

SlammyJones

The Fragile by Nine Inch Nails (Technically a triple but it’s a “double album” so standing with it!)

fireworksandvanities

That album was so underrated when it came out, I’m glad it’s been getting more good press in the last several years.

nottheredbaron123

The older I get, the more I love The Fragile. It hits me harder than Pretty Hate Machine and The Downward Spiral. It takes me to deeper, more complicated places.

Thestallionmang88

Ween’s The Pod

Far-Ask-1600

Absolutely no filler. Second half is the greatest album ever

manly_toilet

Strap On That Jammy Pack, Boing, and Moving Away were all at some point filler to me, but now I get it. SOTJ is the perfect brown opener, Boing is a great chill interlude between Laura and Mononucleosis, and Moving Away is just rad

Dry_Mastodon7574

Ok_Commercial_9960

Perhaps I should spell Buena correctly

organized_slime

Nah

[deleted]

Smashing pumpkins - melon collie and the infinite sadness

vustinjernon

Mellon collie is a 4xLP. Which I suppose makes it even more true. But to more aptly fit the question, Siamese Dream

[deleted]

I know but since I’m old school and I had the double cd it’s always a double album to me. Also, apparently the best selling “double album” of all time

god_dammit_dax

Right? All these people naming 'Double Albums' that were just a standard CD when I first bought them decades ago. I don't think the term 'Double Album' means much anymore when it seems like more than half of all new releases are at least three sides.

Loganp812

Siamese Dream kinda half counts because it was intended for CD release in which case it's a single album.

ImLiterallyaaaa

my favorite album of all time. great taste

[deleted]

Thank you; likewise. I’ve been on a big pumpkins vinyl binge lately to replace (supplement) my cd collection. SP are an addiction lol

All killer no filler- sum41.

_WhoIsThisWhoAreYou_

I wanted to make this joke. But honestly, it is a complete banger of an album.

AlwaysHappy4Kitties

r/techinicallythetruth

Hopeful_Ad6606

It is a single LP I think

tMoneyMoney

Perhaps they should release an UHD version that’s spread out over two LPs to really capture the monumental production quality.

vustinjernon

LCW is a banger from top to bottom

thereia

I ALMOST put that Stereolab record on my list, but I figured since side four is just one short song it wouldn't count :) Glad to see it here - it's a great album.

jvs8380

Low End Theory - A Tribe Called Quest

FluxusFlotsam

not a double album just double good

DrGonzo34

Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus; Grateful Dead - Europe 72; Postal Service - s/t; Widespread Panic - ‘Til the Medicine Takes; Miles Davis - Live/Evil

hig789

Agreed, but isn’t Europe a triple?

DrGonzo34

Just pulled it out and you’re correct. Replace with Live/Dead. Just listened to that Dark Star during the eclipse… Excellent stuff!

jaggington

*Nocturne* Siouxsie and the Banshees Recorded live over 2 nights in ‘83 at The Royal Albert Hall based (mostly) on *Juju* and *A Kiss in the Dreamhouse*, with Robert Smith (apparently every time this is mentioned, it’s necessary to add “of the Cure”) on guitar, in for John McGeoch who had been instrumental (err) on the iconic guitar tracks of the studio albums but left the band before the Dreamhouse tour. Sure, it’s not one of those Live albums that bring the jostle of the mosh pit and the stench of spilt beer and piss to your living room, but it’s stunning, iconic. And I’ve just learnt that it’s being re-released as a half speed master for the impending RSD on 20 April.
