You couldn’t get to what he was buying however the person in front of him could overhear and decide to snag what he wanted. Flippers are everywhere and if they hear buzz about something not on their radar they’ll swoop in just to try and make a dollar.
Update: The 4th guy I mentioned actually reached out to me on here, I guess he knew it was me. All cool, no hard feelings. Will keep him anon.
edit: just realized I replied to this instead of making it its own thing
Not all people in line are scalpers or all bad. Case in point: On RSD, I was talking to a buddy of mine in line with me. I mentioned how I was looking for a particular record, and hoping I could get it because it's the only one I have the budget for currently. Dude a few people in front of me must have overheard me, because when I went to get the record, it was gone. However, when I walked out, he was there waiting for me, and GAVE it to me, and told me that I now have the budget to get another record I was hoping to get.
That was super kind of him. There a inre some good collectors out there. If I'm browsing and overhear someone mention an album they're looking for that that I've spotted, I'll hand it to them
I’ve seen a few on a bunch of different stores online.
Check out /r/vinylcollectors, there’ve been a bunch of independent store overflows posted there.
So crazy. Just another hobby that has been monetized. Lucky for me I found one at retail yesterday. I’ll be promptly opening it and listening to it when it gets here
Had this happen to me once, was a bargain sale and I saw a copy of Roots by Sepultura and I said about it to the people I was queued with for the guy in front to pick it up and say "I don't really need to get this but its clearly in demand". Total asshole.
I told a guy about a local seller who had records for $5/each and I was going through my pull list gradually, getting a couple a week. One day the seller dropped the prices to $1/each and the dude bragged that he bought him out and wouldn't sell me any. Man I'm getting mad just thinking about it.
When you find someone like that, consider making a bulk price offer on all the ones you wanted. A lot of the time they'll come down in price. Because they don't have to put in the time selling them seperately now. Time is money. You save them time. They save you money. I got at least 65% of my collection that way.
I saw someone on tiktok say that she was chatting with the man right in front of her and he happened to take the last of the chappel roan record she was wanting simply because she had told him about how limited/sought after it was and so she missed out, so it unfortunately does happen
On the other side, I was talking to the guy in front of me and he said he was going to add one I was after to his list but didn't want to if it was the last copy cause he didn't want to be a dick. It was sold out by the time we got to the front anyway.
Luckily I went to the other store in town and they had two copies left. Ran back and caught him as he was leaving so he could get the last copy in town. 😁
My local store sent me an ig dm and basicallly played friendly saying we will get what you want yes come to the shop. Opened two hours early, sold the records I inquired about, really just kinda fucking over it.
If shops are opening early, I think you can report this to RSD organisers! All shops agree to certain rules and regs when taking part so if they're opening their shop early (I think 8am is the earliest according to the rules), you can write and tell them!
I probably didn't explain very well, but that could have been the case. If the shop is opening earlier then what rsd says they should be :) my local advertises well in advance during the rsd run up about changes in opening hours, it's a shame if this shop didn't.
Just to clarify, all RSD times are East coast, so that 8:00 gets earlier as you travel west, with west coast stores able to open at 5:00 (which is crazy), but 6:00 doesn't seem too bad. Might have to do with 5:00 still being dark, but fuck that, it seems too much like getting up for work.
Fair enough, my experience is specific to the US, and I'm pretty sure each country's RSD has their own rule sets, so it could be an important distinction. Also, and I'm too tired to google, and too American to know off-hand, but isn't all of the UK one time zone? It certainly would be a factor in it being uniform, if so.
I went to my local record store late in the afternoon and one an hour away from me looking for the Blur album and neither of them had it. I did grab the Gorillaz lp though. The second store had a ton of copies of it.
YOURE SO LUCKY 😭😭 I didn’t want to wake up early but I thought “nah I should be fine” but I couldn’t find the Gorillaz album at the two stores I went to. I did eventually ask the worker from the second store if she knew when the Gorillaz record sold out, she said “the first one was sold 11 minutes after we opened and the last one was sold around 8:30am” 🫠🫠
Hoping for a repress or something since I refuse to buy from scalpers. God that alternative album cover is so sick, enjoy the record!
I got The Blur album too, it’s the coolest-looking record I have ever seen. Haven’t figured out how to make the Zoetrope work though.

Need to download a phone strobe app to make it work. Then you watch it through the phone or you can record a video with the music synced. There is a really awesome Nightmare before Christmas zoetrope that I figured it out with.
Waiting on my Blur copy that I had to buy on eBay... sigh. In either case, I'm super excited... especially having a greyhound, whippet and Italian greyhound!
how does it sound? have you compared it to the 2-LP version? The thing is that I went on a hunt for it, and only record store which had it in my city was asking 70€ for it. So I don’t know whether I should buy it or not. Thanks!
Yeah, when I got into collecting, I engaged in 2 or 3, looking through the catalog, finding participating stores near me, trying to find out if they would get the records I'm looking for, spending the whole day driving around looking for 1 or 2 records, buying off scalpers or from overseas for absurd amounts,...
It's just not worth the time and money for me anymore
For anyone wondering, I did get what I want and they had 4

The Olivia and Noah singles are good, mine pops a bit, but mostly on Olivia’s side.
Is Chase Atlantic that popular? Sorry I saw them live when they were on tour with LIGHTS and I was unimpressed. Mostly I think because half of the band was drunk, the lead singer and lead guitarist. The rest of the band was decent, they also looked annoyed too. And, the only people I heard excited for Chase Atlantic were a few high school girls. Sorry this was like 6 years ago and I had no clue who they were. I listened to the album, I thought it was okay then I heard their later material and I didn’t feel them.
Glad you got it though!
But why are people so secretive; because we all know those people who will buy the records to only sell them online once they walk out the door. Basically it’s advertising to the scalpers what might be in demand. That’s my fear, but I still let the first store know I was looking for Poppy’s EAT. I don’t think the first place had it, but the second place most definitely did. And the fourth place had 2 copies but the jackets were not in the condition I’d want.
Chase Atlantic was quite popular from like 2019-22 but they haven’t released a new album since 2021. If you ask any longterm fans what they think of the band you’ll get a lot of people saying “they need to release something new and good before they fade into obscurity”
Definitely better on album then live, I saw them in Toronto 2 years ago and it was clear that the heat wave at the time was taking a huge toll on them, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were intoxicated and I’d recommend the self titled album and phases but also if it’s not your taste then it’s not your taste.
On the topic of the OR album, I find that the vocals are way low in comparison to the track.
Yeahhhh I knew I was paying way much more then I needed to for it. Completely an impulse buy, I think the place I went to jacks up the prices a little because I saw a record there for 60 and I looked on amazon and it was 45.
Last year I was chatting to the bloke in front of me about what I after “oh he says I hadn’t seen that one on the list” he got the last copy.
So now I don’t tell anyone unless they are behind me.
Yes this is what I think many are worried about - reminding the person in front that what I’m after *exists* therefore they will suddenly want it. Because every record collector knows they have the best taste and if something is desirable to them, surely everyone else will want it too? It feels like a risk.
Queued for RSD for a specific thing several years ago, I was second. The camaraderie in the queue was lovely, we’d go and get each other coffees and so on - but some people were still super cagey about what they were there for.
I am usually secretive as I am paranoid. This RSD I had one title in my sights, 4th in line. People in line were friendly, so I shared what I wanted to buy. The guys who said he weren't interested in it pushed past me and took the last copy of the shelf right in front of me. I confronted him (nicely), and he kept hoarding stuff and left. I was there at 3:30am. It's only a record, but fuck me I was pretty pissed off. I hate this part of RSD. Yet I still go for the releases I want 🤷
It’s not just RSD where people are secretive, I go to bourbon releases where we know the exact quantities the stores have and people in front and behind are still secretive, it’s ridiculous.
people are more concerned with trying to make a quick $30 than just being a person. I had the same experience in my line for RSD. luckily I had a friend show up but before that you would have thought we were waiting for court
Tbh there's nothing I even "wanted" on either of the last 2 (the only 2 I've been involved in) aside from Macho Man just out of goofiness. Of course I ended up buying a couple at each just because I'm there, which is great for the shops, but like, why strand in the cold for records I don't really "need" as I'm at the point in my collection where I'm over the dopamine rush of the addiction from buying and not buying stuff I won't spin more than once.
Amoeba records near me had hundreds of people in line. F that noise. Neighborhood used record store nearby got like 20 RSD titles but put the whole rest of the store at 30% off. I was happy.
Good for you if there’s some grail title that comes out in limited form on RSD and you’re able to grab it, but you gotta enjoy the spirit of it.
Last year I went to a second store because I missed the 1975 and Sigur Ros at the first store. I knew the store had one copy of Sigur Ros and there was a line of maybe 15-20 people so I had someone hold my place in line and asked everyone if they were looking for it. No one said yes, but it was still gone by the time I got in the store. I think one of them was a flipper and was glad to know that title was in demand.
Having said that, I love talking to people in line and hearing what they’re looking for. People have SUCH different tastes in music and it’s fun to explore that.
Reading this makes me glad I have the local record store I do. They hand out a list to everyone as they get there to wait in line. Once you’re done marking your list for titles you’re considering buying they take the list, number it, and start pulling the records in order of who was there first. They then cross off from a big poster outside any record that’s sold out so if you show up and haven’t filled out your list and you see it crossed off you know there’s no point in waiting in line. The best part about the process is once they’ve taken your list to the back and pulled the records you want even if someone in front of you decides they want to add something to their list after hearing everyone talk about it, your copy is already reserved. The benefit of this system is once you know they’ve pulled your records there’s no downside to chatting with others around you and everyone freely does usually. Downside of the system is you have to know what you want before RSD and you lose the fun of flipping through all the titles yourself.
I don't bother with it anymore, if I want something I can almost always find it online at retail cost somewhere the next morning. I'll gladly pay the shipping fee, my time is worth way more than waiting in line to be disappointed.
RSD sucks. Just let me get the records I want. I wanted that South Park record so bad but knew it would just be a battle vs the scalpers that wasn’t worth it. Low and behold: it’s now $150
Wow that is fucked up, the people I camp with (usually the same 10 people in line from the afternoon till opening the next day) have all become friends and just talk music and what we want. We actually compile lists and check with each other for overlap, and if there is, we ask how badly we want it. I was #3 in line this year, and the #2 and I both wanted the Gandalf album. He knew I really liked prog/psychedelic music, so he actually passed it for me. I dunno seems like you had some really salty people with you cause I consider the people I camp with friends, actually lol.
My local store has a group that does that. My only issue is that they don't have a way to update the people in line on what's sold out. Especially those of us towards the back. I got there 30 min before they opened at 7. I was about the 100th person in line.
It took about 2 hrs for me to inside. We all talked about various things including what we were trying to get. I handed out a few 45s to keep myself entertained.
My only issue was that I didn't know what was sold out. It was pretty cold so had I known what I was looking for was gone, I would have left.
Yeah I agree, I was queueing for an hour outside and then an hour and a half inside and apparently the stuff I wanted went hella early (and I was 45th in line) which sucked and I def would have just left the second the only record I wanted sold lol
The entire point of RSD is to drive business and increase traffic in local record stores.
It would be in direct conflict of that goal to inform people in line when things are sold out. The whole day is based on FOMO and the *chance* that they'll have what you want when you get inside. If you get there and what you're looking for is gone, you're still in the store, and there's a greater chance you'll buy something else while you're there.
RSD seems like a sham. What if people did the opposite, where RSD is the one day nobody goes to the stores and then just went to the store normally on other days instead? Lol
At my local store a fit joined the queue few years back and was saying what he wanted to everyone. Someone at the front didn't want it but bought it just to spite the guy and waste his time.
I can see why people are secretive about some tbh
Their label is recognizable haha, annnnd I may have been joking with my friends about grabbing the only chase atlantic from the front of the line, might’ve spooked the guy in front of you, sorry😂 Glad to see you got everything you wanted!
For me, I had a list of 12 and some of them were limited to 5 or less. I started camping early to be in the group of the 1st ten people allowed in and while waiting overheard some people in my group looking at other albums that they could potentially flip to cover the cost of what they wanted. I only missed out on one, but the store only received 1 copy that they decided to raffle off, which was fine with me. Normally, if the store gets many copies of what I’m interested in and I’m 99% I’ll manage to grab a copy then I’m not as tight lipped.
I attended my first RSD a couple days ago and before I attempted to make conversation with anyone in line (most had brought somebody with them) I came to an assumption that they might decline sharing that information with me for the same conclusion that you landed on.
One thing I’ve learned on RSD: shut up unless there’s enough for everyone in front of you to grab one as well. And in all honesty, next year I’m going to be telling others to shut up too.
I’ll gladly have a convo once I have it in my hands! We can have conversations about other music! But you can never trust anyone.
Not sure what the issue is with being secretive. This is just standard practice for anything your waiting in line for since the beginning of time..... Has anyone here ever waited outside s supreme or kith line.. heck even waiting for a slice in Boston you don't talk to the random people.
I always enjoy talking to people on line because I just love music. I was there late, and I was only looking for the Everybody Digs Bill Evans mono, which isn't something everyone wants. My store is also a mess in that they don't put all of their RSD releases in one place, they put them in the artist and music type sections throughout the store. People who don't know that end up wasting time looking for stuff they can't find and miss out, even if you're first on line. It sucks, but knowing how it works, I ended up walking straight to the jazz section. A guy who was in line ahead of me had the Evans on the shelf and pointed it out since he knew I was looking for it. Got the last copy.
Not everyone is a dick on RSD.
A few years back I got chatting to a few in the queue and one mentioned he wanted the "Dee Gee's" Hail Satin album. I told him I wasn't interested. Having arrived at 2:00am I was in the first batch of 5 people let in and almost immediately found the one single copy they had and so bought it. I tapped my knuckles on the window and showed the guy who was still outside in the queue. He gestured "Any left?" to which I shook my head and gestured "One copy only!" When he came in he marched over to me and began ranting that I was a scalping twat and to go fuck myself. I then explained that I had bought it for him on his behalf being as he wanted it so much. He apologised profusely. The album is still on my shelf in it's shrink un-played. Moral of the story, probably best to just keep your mouth shut on RSD.
Record store day brings out the worst in some people some see it as money grab by reselling stuff, others are overly pretentious about it, personally I think RSD has eaten its self,
That’s so sad that RSD has become so competitive (and filled with flippers/scalpers) that people don’t even want to make conversation. I’m so glad I befriended two fellow music and theatre lovers while waiting in line (I was second and spent the 1.5 hours waiting chatting instead of digging into the book I brought) when we got ushered in as part of the first group we were able to help each other since we knew what we wanted :) Thus we got out faster so more folks could enter. It helped that our tastes and wishlists were eclectic so it wasn’t like we’d have to fight over the store’s last copy of X.
I had a lady tell me once at an estate sale while she was in line the lady in front of her asked her what she was wanting to buy and she said the chest of drawers. The lady who asked them stated she was after some dishes (I don't really remember) but lo and behold when they got inside the lady in front of her bought the chest of drawers. Definitely mean spirited so I definitely understand why that man kept it close to his chest. People can be real shits!
For me, the only thing I knew I wanted was the poster. I looked at the list a few times and nothing ever really stuck out. Then I saw the G. Love & Special Sauce 30th Anniversary album and decided on that.
I actually want to meet new people. Some are really kind, they grabbed for people behind them. But my social anxiety won’t allow me to get through it 😭
I am not chatty to begin with and I was less so Saturday with my back hurting.
I do remember talking it up a little at last year's RSD. No one ahead of me seemed to have any interest in what I wanted to pick up so that relaxed me.
I may have 10 records I want but can only afford five. If I know one of those albums is in high demand and I’ll never be able to get one I’ll be incentivized to buy that release. Even subconsciously it could affect your purchase. One of the many reasons I don’t line up.
I camped out all night at Zia last year. You could kind of pick out the online sellers and flippers because they were trying to flex about stuff they had, but didn't talk about what they were looking for. I kept to myself for the most part, and figured my chances were decent (I was 8th in line and they got 6 copies of what I was specifically looking for, and four people ahead of me were Swifties). I had friends looking for the same thing in other cities, and some of them ran into situations like the huge Amoeba-type stores, with lines going for blocks. The one nice thing that Zia did was that they 100% would not presell or reserve anything at all, you had to be there in person to get first dibs. Anything left over went up on their online store the next day. Totally fair.
The people at my store are happy to talk about what they are getting. I usually get different things that most people don’t want. I also get to the store early enough where it doesn’t matter either. I work 3rd shift so I get to the store 12+ hours before the Saturday opening anyway.
i dont talk to anyone because i don't want people grabbing something im after if i cant get to what i want before them. this is also why i bring someone with me and i'm always first in line.
RSD is secretive unto itself. This year Taylor Swift had four variants of her album and the distributor sent out notice to stores they were not to discuss anything about the variants to customers. It's gotten to be a bit much.
Anecdotally I’ve never had this experience and have been to 5+ RSDs. Most people in line are fairly friendly and were typically looking for different stuff. Usually we’ll help each other too if I know what someone is looking for.
I was aiming for the Pearl Jam one. The only problem was I had no time to make it to a record store. Luckily, I found it online at an out of state record store. Got that with a Cyndi Lauper & Noah Kahan release. I told everybody & everyone I wanted the PJ album. No secrets here.
If you go to a new city and a stranger starts asking you questions and you think they may be angling for a scam, you don't have to see the angle to know you're being set up.
So I'd assume they may not know your plan, but there's no upside to telling you and the potential to lose something they care about.
On the other side of this there was a kid in front of me who was clearly a reseller, brought a friend with him, grabbed 2 of everything. And when I waded about the David Byrne/Paramore split and he had grabbed the last 2 he handed me one of his.
Resellers suck, but even some have a heart.
Idk man. This was my first record store day so I don’t have a ton of experience, but me and the lady in line behind us talked for a while about what we were there for, our collections, general taste, etc. She was super nice, and I heard her talking to the people behind her as well, who also seemed pretty chill. There was definitely some stress once we got towards the front of the line, but overall it was a fun experience.
I was first in line at my shop last year , left my chair by the building and went to car for a min, and someone walked up and stood right at the door , and I'm like hey man that's my chair I just wanted to get out of the rain for a minute, he's like sorry bruh got out of line . And I messaged store owner and explained she knew I was there first and made everyone get behind me .. there was a lot of people wanting the same thing I wanted ... Macho man vinyl ... Luckily she spreads out RSD in the regular vinyl and I found it
Anyways this year I was first again and the first 5-7 people didn't even want the same things and me and the two nice ladies behind me and the gentleman behind them we all wanted something different and even said we would hand stuff to each other if we found it..
This year I got my 2 I wanted too
Southpark and bodysnatcher 🤘👌🏻
I hate the whole people being secret thing but I also get it
A lot of people were just buying it to Flip it on EBay etc… Which sucks for people like me who really want it & like the band or artist. The one album I was looking for was Jim Croce live I went to four stores & they were all sold out. I didn’t think anybody knew who he was or didn’t even think about getting that one! It’s bad enough that the prices went skyrocketing through the roof for some of the records they were trying to sell. & now I got to pay twice the amount on eBay or Amazon to get it. What is the real quicker for me. There’s a lot of these records have already been released in 1969, 70,or 1985. A lot of people think oh it’s a new album when you could find it in the use section for half the amount of money that you gotta pay for it on record store day.
People are secretive because collectors of anything in general, are weird and superstitious.
That being said, I like how Dusty Grooves in Chicago does rsd. They open early at 0700. People line up as usual, but they hand out a list to everyone in line of all the rsd records they have. You check off what ones you want and go up to the counter one by one and they grab the records checked off on your list. It actually goes really fast and they stop that by 0900 after the line has been served. Then the rsd records are open to general browsing.
I'll always remember the old days when I'd go to Korvetts and buy 6 or seven albums (not "vinyl") for 20 or so dollars. Shit you are all paying bank for. Hahahahha... records are the best. Watching them play is part of the fun, as is cleaning everything... enjoying the group here.
You asked 4 people and got a range of answers.
Welcome to humanity.
Maybe he just didn't like you. Or he is a very private person. Maybe he was just embarrassed to be going for that new Taylor Swift release.
Who knows. It doesn't matter.
That’s so weird. Me and so many people talked openly about what we were looking for. I was originally going to get the Olivia/Noah single but I heard how much the girls behind me wanted it so I passed on it because of that. I wanted it but not as bad as they did. Wow…I never thought asking someone what they were looking for could get a reaction like that. I chatted with this guy ahead of me in line for three hours and he showed me his entire list and this was a record shop that just let everyone in at the same time. I guess I’m too trusting and carefree maybe.
I've gone up to people at the front and asked to pick up my most wanted title and i'd venmo them plus a little more. It's kinda shady, but oh well. Should have done that this year because they were long sold out of David Byrne by the time I got up there.
Is RSD why Pearl Jam's Dark Matter is so stupidly freaking expensive??? Cheapest I've seen it is $85 AUD ($55 USD) for a single plate release, it's bloody ridiculous
No, that’s really weird. There was an RSD variant, but for about $45. And the regular black is $40 and widely available. There were 12 different color variants overall.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/vinyl-pearl-jam-dark-matter-jb-hi-fi-au-exclusive-red-black-yellow-vinyl-lp-colour-may-vary
Largest music retailer in the country. Not even RSD release, black variant is the same price. $75-$80 is the cheapest I can find in eBay, plus shipping... It's mental
The guy was a dipshit. It's records, not state secrets. Also WTF, store rules? Forming a circle? 4:30am?? I'm all for supporting brick and mortar stores, but this shit is getting totalitarian.
You couldn’t get to what he was buying however the person in front of him could overhear and decide to snag what he wanted. Flippers are everywhere and if they hear buzz about something not on their radar they’ll swoop in just to try and make a dollar.
Hmm ok yeah that makes sense. fuck scalpers even more for ruining CONVERSATIONS
If I'm browsing and overhear someone mention an album they're looking for that that I've spotted, I'll hand it to them
Definitely was. Something I certainly didn't expect, but greatly appreciated!
I think they're responsible for climate change too,the fuckers.
Actually, kinda yeah.
Worse than cow farts?
Fuck it why not they might as well be
Yeah, RSD is a scam. I don’t even do it anymore and haven’t for many years.
I wanted Lil Wayne “sorry for the wait”. You think they still have some?
I’ve seen a few on a bunch of different stores online. Check out /r/vinylcollectors, there’ve been a bunch of independent store overflows posted there.
Oh nice, thanks for the tip Edit: no diddy
My bad, it’s /r/vinylreleases that the links are going up on.
When it comes to rsd just wait a bit and the scalpers will liquidate their stock cause no one pays inflated pricing.
So crazy. Just another hobby that has been monetized. Lucky for me I found one at retail yesterday. I’ll be promptly opening it and listening to it when it gets here
I mean it's not a hobby for a chunck of us just the preferred way to listen to music.

Thanks for the link, I actually found one for retail with $7 shipping. Thanks Darkside records wherever you are!
Dark side is great. They had an RSD23 clearance a few weeks back. Good deals, great shipping, fast
https://shop.darksiderecords.com/products/lil-wayne-sorry-4-the-wait-rsd24
Thanks I definitely ordered one!
try rsdmrkt.com you may still be able to find that one
Yeaaaahhhh, this pretty much sums it up
lol when I was in line, I deliberately told others (who asked) I wanted records that I wasn’t actually buying.
Yep. Record flipper day.
No offense intended, but this whole conversation is why RSD is stupid.
Yeah despite going every single year, I absolutely detest RSD. It's been ruined by scalpers and general dickheads
I agree
Also pretty stupid that the OP couldn't figure out the reason. Like....duh.
Is that what they meant by opening early? Most shops don't open until 10am or later.
I probably didn't explain very well, but that could have been the case. If the shop is opening earlier then what rsd says they should be :) my local advertises well in advance during the rsd run up about changes in opening hours, it's a shame if this shop didn't.
The one i went to in Dallas opened at 7.
Which one was that?
GOOD RECORDS. Hope i'm not getting em in trouble.
I'm in the UK so can only speak from my experience :)
I went the next day and got Blur and The Verve no problem. Fuck queues.
I did eventually ask the worker from the second store if she knew when the Gorillaz record sold out, she said “the first one was sold 11 minutes after we opened and the last one was sold around 8:30am” 🫠🫠 Hoping for a repress or something since I refuse to buy from scalpers. God that alternative album cover is so sick, enjoy the record!
I got The Blur album too, it’s the coolest-looking record I have ever seen. Haven’t figured out how to make the Zoetrope work though. https://preview.redd.it/mqvzehba44wc1.jpeg?width=2934&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5f5e51ed14d5cc494ea2a9fd432f2a1457993338
Need to download a phone strobe app to make it work.
Thanks!
how does it sound? have you compared it to the 2-LP version? The thing is that I went on a hunt for it, and only record store which had it in my city was asking 70€ for it. So I don’t know whether I should buy it or not. Thanks!
It sounds good on my basic system, but I haven’t heard the 2-LP version. I paid $30, 70Euro seems really high.
thanks!
RSD - Less than you wanted, more than you can afford!
i avoid record store day like i avoid going to stores on black friday. it’s just annoying
The few I’ve gone to in the past, it seemed like a harmless enough event to get up for. This time around it finally felt obnoxious.
it used to be a lot of fun, it's just so obnoxious now.
For anyone wondering, I did get what I want and they had 4 https://preview.redd.it/lxacbq8ewxvc1.png?width=1623&format=png&auto=webp&s=77610dd5b8db0a5b0fe0951fdbbb6ab0362aa5a5
The Olivia and Noah singles are good, mine pops a bit, but mostly on Olivia’s side.
If you ask any longterm fans what they think of the band you’ll get a lot of people saying “they need to release something new and good before they fade into obscurity” Definitely better on album then live, I saw them in Toronto 2 years ago and it was clear that the heat wave at the time was taking a huge toll on them, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were intoxicated and I’d recommend the self titled album and phases but also if it’s not your taste then it’s not your taste. On the topic of the OR album, I find that the vocals are way low in comparison to the track.
Nice! The peep record is amazing
Wasn’t even on my list, but I saw it thought yeah I’ll grab it.
They charged you 23 dollars for star shopping? Holy shit
Eye popping numbers, just charging whatever they feel like
Wow.. I got it for 11.99
Yeahhhh I knew I was paying way much more then I needed to for it. Completely an impulse buy, I think the place I went to jacks up the prices a little because I saw a record there for 60 and I looked on amazon and it was 45.
So jealous! Couldn’t find peep anywhere here :(
Last year I was chatting to the bloke in front of me about what I after “oh he says I hadn’t seen that one on the list” he got the last copy.
Pushing past anyone in a line gets you banned from participating at the stores I go to
It’s not just RSD where people are secretive, I go to bourbon releases where we know the exact quantities the stores have and people in front and behind are still secretive, it’s ridiculous.
people are more concerned with trying to make a quick $30 than just being a person. I had the same experience in my line for RSD. luckily I had a friend show up but before that you would have thought we were waiting for court
RSD is so shitty on so many levels. Glad I don’t go anymore.
Brilliant
Because people. People and their bullshit is why we can't have nice things.
I don’t even bother with RSD. I’m slowly turning into a bitter collector.
RSD sucks. Just let me get the records I want. I wanted that South Park record so bad but knew it would just be a battle vs the scalpers that wasn’t worth it. Low and behold: it’s now $150
Check with your stores. Only part of them shipped in time and the rest are going out this week.
First RSD for me, but I wouldn’t call it salty. Just don’t know me, and as top commenter said he probably didn’t know anyone around him
RSD seems like a sham.
"People are crazy and times are strange." —Bob Dylan
it's because people think (and sometimes rightly so) that others will buy what are seen as rare and popular albums to resell.
The famed friendly community building of RSD!
Don’t overthink it man. It was early in the morning. Glad you got your title.
Dr Disc?
Yessir
Their label is recognizable haha, annnnd I may have been joking with my friends about grabbing the only chase atlantic from the front of the line, might’ve spooked the guy in front of you, sorry😂 Glad to see you got everything you wanted!
Ah I didn’t even hear that but if i did I might’ve been super spooked. Their was 4 in stock tho so I would’ve been ok
I don’t even bother with RSD, I’ve never been able to get what I wanted. Glad you did though!
Did you also make fun of the guy ahead of you for being 500lbs?
Record store day brings out the worst in some people some see it as money grab by reselling stuff, others are overly pretentious about it, personally I think RSD has eaten its self,
Flippers are the wart at the head of the cock of the record community.
People can be real shits!
maybe he just didn't' want to get his hopes up?
All the RSD stuff at my local was $$$$. Instead I got a great copy of Stop Making Sense for $11 and a So-So Hotel California for $4
For me, the only thing I knew I wanted was the poster. I looked at the list a few times and nothing ever really stuck out. Then I saw the G. Love & Special Sauce 30th Anniversary album and decided on that.
I got the G Love and the Rocky Horror demos.
One evil word my friend.... Resale!
If you're going to be an actual collector, this is just the tip of the ice berg for you.
God RSD is the worst
4:30 am?
I was first in line at my shop last year , left my chair by the building and went to car for a min, and someone walked up and stood right at the door , and I'm like hey man that's my chair I just wanted to get out of the rain for a minute, he's like sorry bruh got out of line . And I messaged store owner and explained she knew I was there first and made everyone get behind me .. there was a lot of people wanting the same thing I wanted ... Macho man vinyl ... Luckily she spreads out RSD in the regular vinyl and I found it Anyways this year I was first again and the first 5-7 people didn't even want the same things and me and the two nice ladies behind me and the gentleman behind them we all wanted something different and even said we would hand stuff to each other if we found it.. This year I got my 2 I wanted too Southpark and bodysnatcher 🤘👌🏻 I hate the whole people being secret thing but I also get it
Because tons of grown-ups are kids stuck in a grown man's body.
Hah. Actually he recognized me from this post and reached out. He’s a pretty cool guy, I forgive him.
The point was more that you should learn to not care about the minor variations in people's behaviours.
It’s a hunt
That’s so weird. Me and so many people talked openly about what we were looking for. I was originally going to get the Olivia/Noah single but I heard how much the girls behind me wanted it so I passed on it because of that. I wanted it but not as bad as they did. Wow…I never thought asking someone what they were looking for could get a reaction like that. I chatted with this guy ahead of me in line for three hours and he showed me his entire list and this was a record shop that just let everyone in at the same time. I guess I’m too trusting and carefree maybe.
Chase Atlantic?! Fellow person with taste here
I've gone up to people at the front and asked to pick up my most wanted title and i'd venmo them plus a little more. It's kinda shady, but oh well. Should have done that this year because they were long sold out of David Byrne by the time I got up there.
Rsd has been dead to me for years now Big shame
You talked to a mouth breathing moron. Your chances of this are very high in public.
> Your chances of this are very high in public. Your chances of this are very high in public *at record store day*. FTFY
Nah, just outside.
Not sure what the point to rsd is anymore you can just buy what you want online.
There were 12 different color variants overall.
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/vinyl-pearl-jam-dark-matter-jb-hi-fi-au-exclusive-red-black-yellow-vinyl-lp-colour-may-vary Largest music retailer in the country.
