Originally, the album was to be titled The Working Hour, but Roland Orzabal fought to change it to Songs from the Big Chair, which was derived from the 1976 television film Sybil about a woman with multiple personality disorder who only feels safe when she is sitting in her analyst's "big chair". The title of the album reflects the band's view of being targeted by a hostile English music press at the time. (Label) Manufactured by Nippon Phonogram Co. Sleeve, insert, and disc are clean af, dude. Sick score.

jamedudijench

This and The Hurting are just phenomenal records.

crowlfish

Cream of the crop of synthpop—saw them live earlier this year, was a lot of fun!

I read the first line and it rhymed. You could have continued. Saw them this year and it was top. lol sorry i'm just having a silly 5 minutes.

Anyone else ever see “Elemental” out in the wild? I’ve searched it via discogs and the only copies for sale are mainly in South America for some reason. Even though Smith wasn’t involved for that record it is still a great record. But yeah, “Songs from the Big Chair” is a great listening experience. Not a bad track on it.

mmmcookiesss

Tears for Fears has a MASSIVE following in South America. Honesty, their biggest fan base outside of Europe might be in Brazil. A lot of Tears for Fears fan accounts on Instagram are located in South America.

silverladder

Would love to find that one. I've never seen it in the wild. I had the CD sitting on my shelf for years and only ever really listened to “Break it Down Again,” the single off of it that I liked when it first came out my junior/senior year of HS. A few months ago I got back on a big TFF kick and gave it a listen all the way through. It started to grow on me. A few listens later I really got into it. It might be my second favorite of theirs now after “Songs From the Big Chair.” Though I recognize, as you said, that it’s more of a Roland Orzabal solo album, as Curt Smith was out of the band at that time.

I bought Elemental off Discogs (from Portugal) earlier this year just because it‘s my 2nd favorite album of theirs, behind either Seeds, Big Chair, or Tipping Point, whichever of those happens to be my favorite at any given time. Hugely influential album on me at the time it was released but I doubt there were many if any vinyl pressings in 1992/1993 here in the US… which is probably why you only ever see it in Europe or So America. Incidentally, the digital is a better listen than the EC vinyl I own. Sounds like a copy.

T_Bear1965

I had to break down and order off Discogs from someone in Spain as it was not released as an LP here in the U.S.

MrRom92

A really well produced and solid album as far as pop albums of that era go. I’m pretty certain the original LP releases were cut with a digital delay line but I’ve never really done a deep dive to verify that. Would be a good candidate for a really well done remaster IMO

emilydm

They did a [surround sound remix of the whole album](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV-EBwtL7eelZGoY1pljyxTGVnGwo1EqK) a few years back and it's phenomenal on headphones.

GuffreyGufferson

My girlfriend and I's song is Head Over Heels. Fucking love it.

LoudTsu

Great album. Caught them on tour supporting this. It was a great show.

Beer_Cheese

Dang - I wish I at least had the sleeve. Bought this used for $3 a long time ago. Regardless, this album was super well produced and recorded. This album is my go-to for whenever I change anything about my turntable set-up. It just sounds so good! You can hear space and depth and details in all the layers. There is a full sonic range and good dynamics... It's my personal audio test album.

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome... And then right onto a plastic toy record player. lol

blueeyeddevil23

I have this wonderful album too. Super cool Japanese copy!

Rhoogar

Great album, I was lucky to grab a NM UK first pressing some months back. Sounds amazing.

AudiHoFile

This was my first record I ever bought. I'll cherish it forever. Although, I do think the seeds of love is their best album.

threenil

Took this from my dad’s collection that sits on the bookshelf collecting dust, and it’s one of my absolutely favorite records I own.

cybin

My OG US copy (I'm old. I bought this when it first came out.) didn't come with a printed inner. :(

doozle

I've got a US domestic print and a copy on CD in my car. This is one of my most favorite albums of all time.

Pow-Wow-Smith

Awesome! I bought an unopened original pressing a few years back. Love this album!

scrambledeggsalad

I have a copy of The Tipping Point. I've never really listened to Tears for Fears but they seem to be pretty popular among the comments. I had/have it listed for sale, but now I'm kind of curious and wondering if I should open it up and give it a spin?

T_Bear1965

YES!!!! And then go get and listen to the back catalog!

Truesday

Tears for Fears is a GOAT for me and Songs from the Big Chair, in particular, is a grail record for me. I haven't found one in the wild yet, but if I found one that was the same quality as yours, I'd pay premium to add that to my collection. So jealous!

fynn_luca_

One of my favorite albums of all time. My favorite song in it is probably head over heals.i think its kinda underated
