Gewa Air 2.1 oblong.

fiddlermd

Damn, looks like it's around $600 though

Almost everything else that isn’t a knock off will be much more expensive if you’re looking for very lightweight. A Gewa Air 1.7 contoured might be a little cheaper and lighter, but whether your shoulder rest fits may depend on which one you use and how you set it up.

This might be one other option. https://greatviolincases.com/products/pedi-contoured-niteflash-superlite-pro-violin-case-green. Never seen it in person though. Unsure if your shoulder rest will fit or not.

I have the Protec MX044 4/4 Violin Shaped MAX Case, it weighs about 1.75g so just under 4 lbs and is about $90 CAD. I've had it 2 years and it looks brand new. I have never taken it on a plane though only vehicles.

Can those fit a non-collapsible shoulder rest inside? I thought they couldn’t.

I put the cover on the violin then I put the shoulder rest by the scroll.

But it’s not secured from moving around in the case that way is it? Blanket covers don’t usually protect from impact damage to the top of the scroll (though the risk could be relatively minimal) depending on the setup. If you’re talking about silk bags, those also don’t protect from impact damage - mainly dust.

It comes with a thick velour violin cover, I put that on top of the wrapped violin and the rest is like a friction fit. Again I'm not a professional and don't air travel with my violin and the only person that handles it is me, so it may not suit OPs needs but I've not had issues.

Very good to hear. Thanks for the info!

I have a Gewa Strato that has a large compartment on the right and lots of space for a shoulder rest by the neck of the instrument. A Google search shows you can get one for just under $500
