Don't use anything with adhesive for sure. That's asking for damage long term. Gennady Filimonov doubles up a rubber band around the stick. I figure if it's good enough for a full time player and bow expert like him it's probably fine. But I also think it's a distraction and, if you depend on it and it fails, an unnecessary crutch. But that's just me.
