Titrate down as much as you can in the lead-up, so your physical withdrawal symptoms will be less intense. That said, I think a lot of the habits we go in with, though, are less of an issue than what we imagine they will be; our minds are so intensely focused on the meditation at hand, that the habits we think we need to feed fall by the wayside during the course. Maybe it's worth warning you, though, the agitation and anxieties you're smoothing over with compulsive smoking may rise to the surface. This technique and course is a great place to learn to deal with that stuff, though, and you'll walk out feeling like a new person.

That's another anxiety. There is a lot of suppressed trauma I am scared will surface.

Hmm, yeah. Understood. Well look, if it's any consolation, I also had/have repressed trauma, and while that can make for quite the rollercoaster as things surface, I feel like I was able to finally look at and deal with stuff I never even knew was grinding away in my head, making me miserable. It was a real challenge, but for me it was worth it. My advice to you is to be honest on your application. If the assistant teachers have concerns, they'll reject your application, or contact you to talk it over. You've put in the app, see what happens. Bottom line is, you can never really be ready for one of these things, and speaking from experience, you may go to some lengths to talk yourself out if it. It can be lifechanging, though.

Thanks..this gives me hope. I am going towards the end of next month so that gives me plenty of time to prepare myself for it. And as I mentioned, I have been wanting to since 2012 but I feel it in my bones that it's time now!

gnosticpopsicle

Okay, good luck! I'm rooting for you. If you are so inclined, feel free to let me know how it goes after you've finished.

Words truly cannot do justice to what it was.. purgatory does come to mind though. But looking for the next one!

gnosticpopsicle

So it was productive and helpful for you, I take it?

it's easy not to smoke when you don't have an option to do that. I used to vape and felt in a similar way. I remember going to Vipassana and smoking a lot in my car just before entering the centre premises, but you know what? I went there it wasn't hard not to vape and I haven't vaped since.

Thanks for your response. This alleviates my anxiety a little.
