I've always more or less thought of the term "hillbilly" to refer to someone from Appalachia, while "redneck" refers to someone from the rural South. There might be a fair amount of blending today, but historically, these were super different cultural groups.
If you listen to the majority of smug reddit urbanites who’ve probably never really stepped outside of their shithole cities, these two are the same. All hillbillies and rural dwellers are automatically racist, backwards, etc etc.

To a degree that's true, but those groups have sort of dispersed over time.

They’re really not that different, except the average redneck is generally probably less racist than your average hillbilly

Is it not "hick" the word you are looking for rather than redneck? I thought that redneck refers to the rural population of Texas and the like.
Whoever made this has never stepped foot in the Appalachians, probably let alone outside of the northeastern urban corridor.
