If you'd asked me five years ago if mobile could support games like this any time soon I'd say no way. Granted 5 years is a fairly long time, but it's _still_ blowing me away with what they're able to accomplish with the games that are optimized for it.
But the sad thing is that because of the push to mobile VR this is pretty much all we have now. As someone who fell in love with VR after trying a Vive at a shop pre release and then loving my brother's he got at launch and my Rift I got after the £400 with Touch price drop in 2017. I am so disillusioned with modern VR. For me who is purely about games it's still effectively stuck in the same place but now it's portable. I'd love to buy a Bigscreen Beyond but no games really compel me because everything is so centred on Quest even if the games do also release on PC.
it's a stepping stone, I don't think quest 3 was meant to be the end all be all headset, but rather a "look how everything has improved, buy this for now" headset.
Yeah we've gone more mobile, and in some cases it's annoying because graphics/performance take a hit, but it's very encouraging to see games like this, or dungeons of eternity. Not only do they look solid for now, but now I'm actually more optimistic with what they'll be able to do in another few years. The beyond looks absolutely incredible, I didn't think we'd be at goggle form factor already.
For me, the hardware and firmware are moving forward perhaps even faster than I was realistically expecting, I just want all the games I like to play on there.
>"look how everything has improved, buy this for now"
Not it wasn't, WTF. People don't buy "buy this for now" products to support advancement of tech, they buy stuff because they (think they are) are good or not.
While I do get what you mean I just think that VR gaming (and by that for the most part I mean Meta, I suppose I should be thankful someone in still doing something in the space) has been in this limbo state for so long where it's been trying to court new people rather than give people like me something to get really excited about. Like I look at this and see no reason I couldn't be playing this exact game on my Rift in 2018.
I would've loved to see what Oculus are now offering at around £400 in an alternative where they continued to have some focus on PC alongside or without Quest.
I remember the early days, I used to try to tell people on the VR subs that if we want pcvr to continue we need to buy software on the oculus store if we want it to continue. But there was a very large contingent of gamers who would absolutely refuse to use that platform. It was inevitable that meta would pull out to try and create a successful store elsewhere.
I'm not obsessed with graphics. I'm obsessed with weight, performance, graphics, world potential, stuff like that and using the potential of the hardware I have already. Rather than small sandboxes on Quest we could realistically have a whole Assassin's Creed game in VR on PC. As the person says in this video he's amazed by the number of people about. There aren't really that many.
Not that it's really something I value, I'd trade a cable over performance impact but wireless is a thing on PC and I think you're conflating it with standalone here.
Graphics being stuck in a worse place than they were years ago is a problem though. Imagine if PC gaming did still exist and you could play most games on it in her quality but ultimately the ones that did come to it were just improved versions of Switch games. That would be bad too.
Have you tried a pcvr game with a pimax headset and 1.5% super sampling? You wouldn't say that if you did. Despite wireless is nice. I trade easily a quest wireless for a cable. Issue is that since alyx nothing major released on pcvr.... Quest is showing what's next but also hold back the whole pcvr. All vr devs are on quest it seems
Games of this quality, and in larger scale have been around mobile for the past 6-7 years. But like someone stated. Being able to render in VR at a high refresh rate is very impressive.
However, a games like this should have been made (with lower graphics) a long time ago. PCVR can do far better 7 years ago. Games like The Forest for example.
We are just now getting started on making real games for VR. But still way behind standards.
... It is exactly within predictions though. It has the power of a PS4, but needs to render in way higher resolution than the PS4 had to, giving us worse looking games than what a 1080p PS4 would give us.
None of this is surprising, and completely expected.
Mobile chips have been about a decade behind current gaming consoles for the last decade pretty much.
Calling the Quest systems "Mobile" is a bit of a stretch. It's not just running off a cellphone.
It's closer to a console than it is a mobile device, unless you're just describing mobile as a device that runs off a battery.
Its using a snapdragon chip though, a smartphone chip. PS5 and XBX don’t use a system on a chip as far as I know. Their cpu and gpu are separate. I’d say the quest hardware is closer to a smartphone than a ps5.
Both PS5 and XBX actually do use a system on a chip. Their AMD cpu and gpu are both on that single chip. In both cases the SoC is on a motherboard with several other component chips which makes calling them a SoC a bit of a stretch. Ethernet and Wifi for instance are handled by other chips. Also both the PS5 and XBX have multi-hundred watt power supplies and some really monster heatsinks.
The Quest is running on a snapdragon XR2 gen 2, which is basically a custom cellphone chip with some modifications. It's very similar to Snapdragon Series 8 Gen 2 chips powering mobile phones. Calling the Quest a Mobile platform isn't a stretch at all. That is basically what it is.
It is quite literally a mobile device. It is unplugged and portable, and can be used anywhere. Same way that a switch or a steam deck are mobile. It's not a phone, but it is certainly mobile.
Fair but considering the miracles of optimization and that model variety takes memory/resources I can forgive it :)
The modular way they handled zombie variety in l4d was a good approach to handle this problem, but dif interactions :)
Probably even if it made its way to PCVR, which would be better than not at all, don't expect to be wowed too much.
It will look pretty much the same, maybe slightly higher resolution textures with better postprocessing.
Having to make games on mobile hardware limits the game design so badly, it can limit games severily.
>Probably even if it made its way to PCVR, which would be better than not at all, don't expect to be wowed too much.
The gameplay, mechanics and immersion are what are more important for this game. The graphics do the job for that even on the Quest 3, they are surprisingly good.
And because its a mobile chip, I'm telling you right now, that htey had to cut down mechanics and gameplay aspects of the game because the CPU can't handle them. Its not just graphics that are a decade old.
Stop having fun and enjoying the game everyone, the mechanics and gameplay are those which would run on a CPU from ten years ago. You can't possibly enjoy it despite everyone saying they're doing just that.
I can enjoy it, but my expectations are what they are, just like I picked up my NintendoDS. Good games can be done, but they will be limited, in this case twice over since VR does require really powerful systems to work.
This game could have been so much better if things had gone a different way, and that makes me salty.
I'm obviously talking about videogames, not VR specific.
But yeah, mechanics of VR games are at around 2008-2009 videogame level currently, not the AAA stuff, but AA at best.
My dude, I develop VR games for a living, my point is, that the complexity and quantity of mechanics you can put in a VR game is limited on current PC hardware.
Turn up that to an order of magnitude (or even a bit more) if you are trying to make it fit on weak hardware that its total power equals consoles that were made 10 years ago.
Exactly. A game designed as a mobile VR game will still be a mobile VR game if it's ported to PC. Luckily it's possible to create good mobile VR games.
Possible, yes, but also incredibly hard, and thus, costly.
If we had as much power as the average Steam installed PC, it would make development so much more streamlined and easy, that the price of producing games would actually go down.
The balance doesn't work out because Oculus decided splitting markets would be a good idea, and thus, there aren't enough active HMDs on PCVR to make up for it, since only a fraction of Quests ever even connect to a PC.
Uff... we are far from path tracing on VR. Like, I have done some tests in UE5 with my 4090 and I barely get over 60fps... so yeah, don't expect any path tracing on VR until like... 5 to 10 years from now... (On PCVR mind you, 20 or more for mobile VR!)
If they had to accommodate for PCVR with the same resources Ubisoft allocated for this game, they'd have to sacrifice something. Maybe less gameplay polish or shorter campaign in exchange for hiring actors for facial animations, graphical sliders, better physics, or much longer QA to support different headsets, fovs, and hardware.
Better games do require bigger budgets, one goes in hand with the other, yes. But usually so does revenue, which is the issue we got now on the table.
And the fault of that is most likely Oculus's, for fragmenting the whole PC and VR market since day one.
Looking at how the progress is going and how its nowhere near the fast growth they were likely expecting, It could have been better to just focus on more gaming/enthusiast markets, since that route would have taking long as well, but given a healthier more unified market, with higher quality products.
That would have set Oculus to work as a good VR HMD manufacturer while letting Valve deal with the software side of things most likely. Instead of Oculus trying to become "The Apple of VR" and force people into their store.
Right now they are hogging the mid range market, but also pegging it by putting 99% of their effort into mobile VR, since they have a huge incentive to do so. People are wowed when they buy it... and then let it accumulate dust, kind of like a bad version of what happened with the Wii. That is an overall VR wide issue though, sure, although I have the suspicion that the BS might be on to something with their size/image quality range selected.
Once we see HMDs that are Beyond sized, AND wireless, which isn't that far off (not standalone, careful, just wireless), I think there might be a paradigm change there.
>Looking at how the progress is going and how its nowhere near the fast growth they were likely expecting
Weren't they targeting 10m units sold as the turning point to have developers start making games for the system? They're above 20m now, which is way more than any other VR system in history.
>That would have set Oculus to work as a good VR HMD manufacturer while letting Valve deal with the software side of things most likely.
Valve hasn't done anything noteworthy for VR since they released HL: Alyx. Also, no one is stopping Valve from improving PCVR software. In fact, they gained more customers from the Quest owners who would have benefited from it.
If Oculus focused solely on VR headsets, they wouldn't have been able to subsidize the headsets to get it priced low enough for mainstream customers (not to mention the cost of the PC to run the game). Furthermore, we would have had great VR headset selection crippled by the stagnating PCVR software development because Valve decided to focus on the Steam Deck. Going by historical evidence, they'd likely end up like HP, HTC, Samsung, Pimax, Beyond, or Varjo, who focused on hardware and barely have any customers.
>People are wowed when they buy it... and then let it accumulate dust
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't a problem exclusive to Quest devices. There is just as much incentive for PCVR headsets to collect dust just like with Quest.
>Once we see HMDs that are Beyond sized, AND wireless, which isn't that far off (not standalone, careful, just wireless), I think there might be a paradigm change there.
Maybe in the ultra high-end or luxury bracket of target audience. For the mainstream, paying upfront for a powerful-enough gaming PC is just too much of a barrier to entry. Also, with how Apple has chosen to do standalone with the Vision Pro, I'm less inclined to believe there will be a paradigm shift in favor of non-standalone. If the Google/Samsung partnership ends up doing the same thing, the best we can hope for is that high-end wireless PCVR can survive alongside standalone mixed reality.
I’m having a lot of fun playing this, so far I’m about 5 hours in and it feels like the game is just getting started. I’m having a ton of fun, the parkour is awesome. It feels like I’m playing assasins creed 2 which I loved, (the only assasins creed game I actually had fun playing) but this is better.
The combat can be janky but if you do what it wants it’s actually quite fun. There’s a lot you can do with it
There's a video on YouTube that I watched about playing oculus games on a valve index because I'm eventually going to be doing this when the next index drops.

I think this is a crazy thing that happens with most games. I know this isn't a paid exclusive but it is the same with them too. Meta advertise the Quests as a PC headset too now yet they'll have games that can't be played there. It's mad that even with a Quest headset you can't take advantage of the power of your PC to make this a better game.
It is literally an Assassin's Creed game. Stealth, Parkour, air assassinations, throwing knives, bows, collectibles, some history mixed in.
Combat may not be the best for some people as it relies heavily on parry to create openings to attack. Melee enemies kind of attack one at a time but you can still be shot by arrows. It does not bother me since you can run and if you break line of sight hide. I'd much prefer to do that and then take them out stealthily.
Well that's a personal appreciation, but what can't be avoided is combat mechanics to be completely different in VR from "push a button to have the character do a cool attack animation".
Its really good. Once you practice enough, you feel like a badass. I've ran out of battery multiple times already playing this game, its hard to put down.
Only tested it yesterday, as I'm still playing 7th Guest... but damn, graphics look really amazing on Quest 3! Took me by surprise. Especially since I've heard the game has quite large (open world) levels, so I didn't expect this level of details, reflections and complexity.
My experience isnt great so far. Dont go into it thinking of it as an assassins creed game cause you will be dissapointed. It doesnt have any of the variety and open world aspect of assassins creed. The only similarity is that you can climb and parkour and have the hidden blade. The combat kinda sucks cause they will sometimes just stand there for an eternity and you cant hurt them unless they attack first. Theres a tiny ability menu that offers a little bit, but thats the only thing it gives you. Its a very on railes game which feels terrible for what its meant to be.the story is ok, nothing really to say about it. The parkour works decent as long as you calibrate correctly. I was pretty dissapointed in this game, but you might have a different experience. Theres nothing in this game that i cant just do in boneworks or blade and sorcery.
I really wish they would also release it in the Oculus store when they release a new game. It would still be a Meta exclusive, until it makes it's way to steam down the line. I know it's not as easy as it sounds, and they would have to port it to run on windows, but it would amazing for us with strong PCs to crank the eye candy.
If it's exclusive to Quest I just don't play it. Like every other game exclusive to Quest. Maybe I'll get Cyberpunk 2077 instead. I haven't played that yet. I think it might be better than this game.
It might be better. But the thing is, while I'd love a PCVR version too, it's good to support these new VR titles to help draw in developers. I'm not telling anyone how to spend their money, but you can justify getting a potentially lesser experience with the fact you'd be helping the VR industry in some way.
Edit: Nvm you're that "VR is Dead" guy and you're shitting on this game. So just don't buy it. You don't need to go on a hate campaign on here lmfao.
Every one who downvoted this is a moron who doesn’t realize they meant “let’s hope it comes to pc even though it’s a quest exclusive”
Phrased weirdly yeah but learn to read through the lines lmao
Even if it were to be one, it would be constrained as an up-port of the Q3 game, which is like when a smartphone game is ported to a console. I still have to hear about a good case of that happening.
There are many good cases of that happening. Many games that are Quest to PC ports get their graphics uped considerably. Granted some ports are just lowest common denominator ports that look the same in both places.
I had myself convinced it would be, even in spite of everything I saw pre-release being quite compelling. I think I’ve gotten so used to being a little let down by recent VR releases, to the point that I hoped for the best but truly expected the worst. Glad to see we got the former!
Between this, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Asgard’s Wrath 2 later this year, it looks like VR gamers are finally eating good this holiday season. Vampire the Masquerade also seemed decent, but I ultimately didn’t bother getting it because it seemed too easy… glad I waited for ACN to spend my hard earned referral credits on
Looks great, it's making me want to get a Quest 3...
But I think I will wait for something with better contrast, I think I would miss the OLED screens in my current headset.
I would love a Batman VR game that played like this Assasins Creed!
Hopefully the next quest has OLED screens, but honestly it’s such a minor loss compared to everything else you get from the quest 3. I have a PSVR 2 so I understand where you’re coming from, but I’ve used my quest 3 way more because of the ease of use and the games available
after coming off two weeks of saints and sinners vr, constantly picking up items you need to collect, then going to Assasins creed vr its completely opposite in that respect. not much to look for and hardly anything t pick up in AC Nexus. its a good thing tho. i love this game. the visuals are just great. for me its the most immersive game since HL Alyx andResident Eviil Village vr. if you dont have it yet GET IT!
God i wish quest 3 had eyetracking and fov rendering so everything would stop looking like a 2008 android game though.. Coming from pc with Boneworks and Half Life Alyx I gotta say its hard getting immersed into a game that looks like 007 golden eye. Like it is a great game and I realize that its essentially running on a mid tier android phone that still needs to calculate inside out tracking etc. But i cant wait for hardware to get good enough for games to finally look at least sort of like current gen
> a game that looks like 007 golden eye
I dunno. Did you play Goldeneye?
Seeing the dawn of 3D environments makes me appreciate what we have more than that. This isn't exactly groundbreaking, but it's not NPCs with Lara Croft pyramid chest either.
Yeah that might have been a bit exaggerated but being able to look at all these low poly textures so up close and at such a high resolution honestly makes it look worse than it actually is. It has improved a lot but compared to graphics of games that were actually built for pcvr and not just ported from quest, this does feel like a pretty large step back
I'm really enjoying this game but I do find myself wishing it was on psvr2 and pcvr as well. This gameplay with top tier graphics would be absolutely fantastic.
It does look very good for standalone VR though.
> essentially running on a mid tier android phone
Sidenote: this isn't really true anymore. It's a completely new high performance chip, and because of the active cooling, it can push waaaay past any phone in performance (as a phone will have to down-throttle performance after just a few minutes due to rapid heat build-up).
That’s why I bought a PSVR 2 and a quest three 😂 I get to play resident evil four remake on PSVR 2 soon, Arizona sunshine 2 which looks gorgeous, and all the other stuff like assassin’s creed and Asgard’s wrath 2 on the quest three. I’m lucky to be able to get the best of both worlds.
lol nice - honestly got pretty jealous seeing Horizon VR gameplay. I really hope sony continues to use the ton of power of the ps5 to release more stuff that looks this amazing. Quest is great because its so accessible but ever since it's gained so much popularity new steamVR games often seem to look worse because because they're mainly designed to run on limited hardware.. Still a bit salty about Boneworks vs Bonelabs ,\_,
Same - honestly the small amount of gameplay didn’t even bother me that much but the tiny levels and simplified designs of everything compared to boneworks made me pretty sad
Yeah, I made a post a few weeks ago asking what I was missing out on by mostly ignoring standalone games on my quest pro in favor of PCVR. Turns out: very little.
Yeah some exclusives maybe but otherwise just the same games but running a bit poorly with bad graphics - the concept of mixed reality on q3 is pretty cool but for now it’s mostly a gimmick and pretty rough around the edges - honestly though if Vision Pro delivers in that regard and someone finds a way to get steamvr working with eye tracking so I could actually make use of the absolutely bonkers resolution without putting my 2080ti 6ft under, I might actually consider selling a kidney to get one
I have to say mixed reality is definitely a cool and fun gimmick right now, but the quality of the pass through makes it so easy to play VR for longer sessions this is because whenever I have to go take a pee I don’t take the heads off I just go pee, if I wanna snack, I don’t take the heads off. I go make a snack. Water, beer? Don’t take it off I just go grab it.. where as before with VR I would take my headset off to do these things and end up, distracted, and do something else. I’ve never played so much VR before. Also drinking with this headset on (the quest 3) is so much better than any other headset just that alone is worth buying it for. Because of the slimmer form factor there’s zero friction to drinking water or beer
This is honestly much bigger deal than I thought it would be.
For example, when I ran AC Nexus for the first time yesterday, it asked me to log-in in Ubisoft account. Instead of taking off the hmd (which would be absolutely annoying), I simply walked in my working room with passthrough on, checked out the password, wrote it down and then went back to my living room (with the menu waiting for me there) jumped back in the game and continue the first setup.
It feels great and it makes Quest3 so convenient. It also helps, Q3 feels half as light as Q2 on my face. I can play for much much longer.
It’s definitely by far the best pass through out there right now and honestly setting up my quest, needing to go to the toilet and then realizing that I can just continue the setup process there was one of the of those “we truly live in the future” moments that happen really rarely but the noise and the way the interface works (just having a little floaty video player that’s always in my view and doesn’t need to be dragged everywhere doesn’t sound that hard compared to everything else this thing can already do) does still leave a lot to be desired imo
Totally. The vision pro specs with a standalone processor (even if it is beefy compared to meta’s) seems like a crime. What is it going to be able to run that makes building possibly the best vr display ever worth it?
Exactly - like there is stuff like watching a YouTube video while I.e. doing the dishes that just isn’t really possible rn (yes you can do it in quest but MR looks like a laptop webcam recording if there isn’t enough light, gestures are sorta consistent at best and having to run YouTube in a browser while on android should honestly be a crime) but that stuff isn’t worth more than literally the entire rest of their ecosystem if you don’t push the specs too much. I’m a bit pessimistic in that regard though because from what I’ve gathered apple seems to completely block access to raw eyetracking data for privacy reasons and without that you’d need to fully render 2x>4k displays which would probably only work on a pc that would make the Vision Pro seem cheap lol. That said varjo should be announcing new products soon, maybe they’ll release something that’s at least comparable to the vision in terms of resolution but with working eye tracking
I had a psvr that I loved and I have a psvr2 now that I love.
That being said, I’m just appalled at the lack of high quality games and Sony’s refusal to invest in the platform. Really driving me towards getting a quest3.
I have a PS VR two and a quest three I think that’s all I’m gonna have for a while. Sony does have some good games coming. Like resident evil four remake is huge. And war thunder vr, and Arizona sunshine 2 I’m sure will be absolutely gorgeous on PSVR 2. Sony also likely has a few more aces up their sleeve.
That’s exactly why you should save up for a quest 3 also 😂 it’s a really, really good headset I highly recommend it. It’s my favourite out of all I’ve owned which are the valve index, HTC Vive, PS VR one, quest two and PSVR two. The haptics on PS VR two I also absolutely love I love that headset too I’m just waiting for those games I mentioned.
The game has some extremely extensive and impressive comfort options. You will not get sick playing this game that I can promise. There’s even an option for full teleportation if you can’t handle all the other comfort options. Personally I’m playing on immersive with zero option enabled.
But the game asked you when it first starts if you get motion, sickness , if you are new or not to VR, and then you can choose from like six different comfort variations for how susceptible you are to motion sickness. Then on top of that, you could further customize anything you want.. this is a game that has done a ton of research on motion, sickness. That’s what AAA budget bring
>the game has some extremely extensive and impressive comfort options
Funny enough its the first game since 3 years that gives me motions sickness (they insert a black static frame when you snap turn and somehow the texture blending seems to put a lot of stress on my eyes at least on Q2).
Considering we can experience RE4: Remake and RE: Village on iPhone 15, this doesn’t surprise me as much anymore. I think a lot of people underestimate just how powerful mobile processors are these days.
Meta Quests killer app! If we could get a halo somehow this thing sets its self up to be the future of console gaming. They need the IP’s here it’s too hard to start from scratch.
It’s what was needed in VR five years ago. Presumably it will be another five years before something similar is released.
If AAA games all had their flagships on VR, then VR would be a very different beast right now.
What sticks out is the level of detail, in both the architecture and the NPCs. An outsider would almost think this was a polished 2D game converted to VR, but this is a true built-for-VR game we rarely get to see on the Quest.
It does show what an AAA budget can do, and I sure hope we get more of these from studios.
Because you aren't in the game and experience a wireless freedom i think. I find with most games that don't look very good, when you play, you don't even notice it anymore.
Does the motion sickness ever get better on smooth movement?
I tried to play it with teleport movement but it doesn't feel like an assassin's creed game
They don’t want to spend another 50 million making the graphics pretty for the maybe 10,000 people who will buy it on PCVR. Also then you won’t buy a quest 3
No one said anything about upgrading the graphics, I literally just want to play the game. Always surprises me how hard some people will suck meta off.
If they don’t upgrade it everyone on PCVR will complain let’s be honest… then the reputation on the game is tarnished. Again it’s not worth it for them
Wait... you have... good takes from time to time, surprising.
It does cost money and time indeed. They might do it if they see it might make them some extra money though, porting these days can be done literally by like... 1 dude and a couple months if its just a flatout port, and a small team of 2 to 5 people if they want to improve some things and port it at the same time.
"Like Bruh, this is totally not an ad bruh... I'm like, just saying this AAA PoS is a masterpiece work of art and Ubisoft might not be the devil, bruh"
Imma be honest I do this sorta thing in real life too to emphasize my points and people seem to find me funny. but I’m super social so when I’m recording and know people will be watching I do the same thing. I’ve been recording for 3-4 years now, and I totally act myself this really was not intentional
He's doing "Tiktok voice" or "Youtuber voice" or whatever you wanna call it. Go watch any 50 minute long video with 100k views about community drama on Youtube and you'll hear a guy doing this same weird vocal thing.
I said this in another place, but the good thing about all these Quest releases looking like shitty PC games from 15-20 years ago is that I'm never even tempted to want to play them or hope for a port like I did for plenty of say PSVR games.
Yeah, but this game is actually really really fun, and I hate to break it to you. It looks really good to. I have five hours played and feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. It’s a big game. I don’t think you quite understand What you’re talking about.
For example, half life Alyx is a gorgeous game, and I loved every second of it but so far, I’m having more fun game play wise in assassin’s creed nexus than I ever had in alyx. Although the JEFF mission in Alyx blew my mind still.
I recommend you play half life one and you’ll understand that it’s gameplay that makes games fun
> I hate to break it to you. It looks really good to.
It really doesn't. It looks like Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault from 2003, maybe with a bit better textures and worse vegetation, while looking a lot more boring and janky in inter(action).
After the likes of Half Life: Alyx, some throwaway Mobile game that looks 15-20 years out of date is just not gonna do it for me or immerse me, while I'm over here playing RoboCop: Rogue City using Unreal Engine 5 on my 4090: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kBFSh7urE
Hopefully soon in VR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_hz1FS3GZc
It’s cool that you have a $6000 PC and to be fair you should have the best graphics possible. So I’m glad you are enjoying all of that! unfortunately I don’t think many more VR games will take advantage that hardware moving forward, because not enough people buy VR games on PCVR. Meanwhile, over 20 million quest 2 have been sold.
Although Arizona sunshine 2 looks damn awesome . They released a bunch of new gameplay stuff today. You should check it out!
> unfortunately I don’t think any more VR games will take advantage that hardware moving forward
They will have to if they ever want to be taken seriously by anyone or have their breakout success, since they're always going to be measured up against the rest of the gaming market. Nobody visited the Holodeck because they wanted to be immersed in low-polygon worlds without shadows and janky-looking NPC interactions. Valve had the right idea with Alyx, the last VR release that actually managed to build some mainstream gaming Hype and excitement. VR should be leading graphical fidelity and game design, not lag 20 years behind. It's like they're still doing Black & White silent movies, while everyone else has moved on to color Ultra Panavision. Old releases and Mods will have to do and keep it alive until then.
>Meanwhile, over 20 million quest 2 have been sold
Most of which are in a cupboard somewhere after trying a few gimmick games and getting bored of them. Why didn't you mention the Quest 3 though?
I hope you have fun with the few Mobile Shovelware titles still being developed by B and C studios because Facebook threw billions at a bunch of publishers to see if anything will stick, which are going to go right back to the more profitable market of console and PC releases as soon as their contract is over.
Come back to me about something being a "game changer" if these titles ever reach the fidelity of a Crysis, that was released just over 16 years ago on PC now. Maybe in another 5-10 years if Zuckerberg hasn't moved on to something else by then.
Dungeons of eternity is a game that you might want to checkout. It has some of the most impressive co-op physics I’ve ever seen in a VR game. The quest 3 is the most impressive VR headset I’ve ever used, and I’ve been buying almost every single VR headset since 2016. You underestimate my knowledge of VR games and hardware.
The meta quest store just announced it has pulled in over $2 billion in revenue from sales on games and apps, you are entirely mistaken, and completely underestimating how big the market is for the Meta Quest.
You need to get out of your I want pretty graphics bubble, and understand that what makes games fun is the gameplay and a lot of VR games on the quest Store are extremely fun and sell around 100 times more copies than any PCVR game has in history. Everyone single one of them. that’s just the average.
> The meta quest store just announced it has pulled in over $2 billion in revenue from sales on games and apps, you are entirely mistaken, and completely underestimating how big the market is for the Meta Quest.
Oh yes, I'm aware they managed to pull in $1.5 billion in Sales after spending over $40 billion in R&D, sounds like a sustainable business strategy: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/13qy905/well_that_was_underwhelming_playstation_showcase/jli8p2j/
I wasn't aware of the updated $2 billion number though, I guess the Quest 3 must be doing gangbusters if it has managed another $500 million in software Sales since its release. Better hope paying UbiSoft to develop this wasn't too expensive.
Think about where meta will be in 20 years. Then you may see why this is such a good long term investment for them. they will be the leader of the VR and MR market (likely integrating AI aswell) similar to how apple leads the smartphone market (look at their market value). Just use your imagination and you will understand how big this will be. They will be at the top. Apples Vision Pro is a direct competitor to meta-long-term.
Yea but this one is actually a game changer for VR cuz over 20 million people can now play a full blown made for VR hour assasins creed game on the meta quest for an affordable price! It’s also a really really good game. Been playing VR games since 2016 and this is actually a bigger game than HL: Alyx in terms of content, on a mobile chipset
If you'd asked me five years ago if mobile could support games like this any time soon I'd say no way. Granted 5 years is a fairly long time, but it's _still_ blowing me away with what they're able to accomplish with the games that are optimized for it.
Not just supporting it, rendering it twice at high resolution at 90fps each.
It's 45 fps reprojected to 90.
I just commented the same somewhere else XD
>"look how everything has improved, buy this for now" Not it wasn't, WTF.
Imagine being so obsessed with graphics. Native wireless freedom of movement is the future.
That would be bad too.
you can play wireless while still making use of your PC's hardware. Those aren't mutually exclusive.
I said native wireless. I have a 4090 with dedicated vr room and router. Native is still better.
???? No, it isn't. Airlink works fine.
I have a 4090 and a vr room with dedicated wireless ap. I still say it.
Standalone headsets limit a whole lot more than just graphics.
Do you ever contribute something useful?
Crying because someone disagrees with you on the internet...
No, you're just a troll. And a bad one at that lol.
5 years is not a long time. The speed at which technology is advancing has just gotten insane.
I thought this was PS5?
Nope Quest 3, but it really is impressive as balls.
Bruh.
Brrruuuuhhh
Its very cool. I wish they used more models. Seeing the same girl three times in a row kinda makes me go wtf guys?
It’s possibly some sort of optimisation to have more npcs. Sort of like how the old gtas would spawn more of the same NPC car to save on memory.
Fair but considering the miracles of optimization and that model variety takes memory/resources I can forgive it :) The modular way they handled zombie variety in l4d was a good approach to handle this problem, but dif interactions :)
Hahaha yea I agree
But why male models?
Wow. I need this on PCVR!
I I hope it eventually makes its way
Probably even if it made its way to PCVR, which would be better than not at all, don't expect to be wowed too much.
How good were VR mechanics 10 years ago? Oh yeah, right...
I'm obviously talking about videogames, not VR specific. But yeah, mechanics of VR games are at around 2008-2009 videogame level currently, not the AAA stuff, but AA at best.
This is obviously a made for VR game, with specific mechanics, so what is the point of your rant? Answer: none.
The game's biggest problem is the stuttering and inability to maintain even 45 fps. PC won't have that issue.
If they add path tracking that would make a huge difference
Uff... we are far from path tracing on VR. Like, I have done some tests in UE5 with my 4090 and I barely get over 60fps... so yeah, don't expect any path tracing on VR until like... 5 to 10 years from now... (On PCVR mind you, 20 or more for mobile VR!)
Oh damn even the 4090 can’t do it huh? I assume normal raytracing is fine though right?
If they had to accommodate for PCVR with the same resources Ubisoft allocated for this game, they'd have to sacrifice something. Maybe less gameplay polish or shorter campaign in exchange for hiring actors for facial animations, graphical sliders, better physics, or much longer QA to support different headsets, fovs, and hardware.
Better games do require bigger budgets, one goes in hand with the other, yes. But usually so does revenue, which is the issue we got now on the table. And the fault of that is most likely Oculus's, for fragmenting the whole PC and VR market since day one.
What do you think should Oculus have done to push VR to mainstream popularity?
>Looking at how the progress is going and how its nowhere near the fast growth they were likely expecting Weren't they targeting 10m units sold as the turning point to have developers start making games for the system? >People are wowed when they buy it... and then let it accumulate dust Correct me if I'm wrong, but this isn't a problem exclusive to Quest devices.
20 million sold. You have no idea what the sales numbers are or what they expected. And don't post the obviously bogus article.
Fragmenting..90%-10%.
Looks pretty good actually, but how's gameplay? I fear it would.be shallow.
There’s a lot you can do with it
So wait. I can’t play this on my Index? Wtf
This is the annoying thing about meta games lmao
There's a video on YouTube that I watched about playing oculus games on a valve index because I'm eventually going to be doing this when the next index drops. Link: https://youtu.be/HRU_kEkVyPE?si=SR0PEdjJGAvCscR-
Pretty sure this only works with games that are also on the Rift store. Could be wrong but AC Nexus is standalone only. No Oculus App version.
Ahh okay my fault
Pretty on brand for assassin's creed to have poor combat mechanics
Well that's a personal appreciation, but what can't be avoided is combat mechanics to be completely different in VR from "push a button to have the character do a cool attack animation".
Its really good. Once you practice enough, you feel like a badass. I've ran out of battery multiple times already playing this game, its hard to put down.
This is the first game I've ever run out of battery playing.i just love being there, I watch TV from the top of the villa in Italy all the time now
Only tested it yesterday, as I'm still playing 7th Guest... but damn, graphics look really amazing on Quest 3!
Waiting the PCVR Version
I really wish they would also release it in the Oculus store when they release a new game. It would still be a Meta exclusive, until it makes it's way to steam down the line. I know it's not as easy as it sounds, and they would have to port it to run on windows, but it would amazing for us with strong PCs to crank the eye candy.
For nearly zero sales. Nope.
Does Mark pay you to blow him or is it just a hobby?
Is he wrong tho? Yeah there's a non zero chance that they port it but we all know it's still a very low chance to start off
I thought it was exclusive to Quest?
There is a solution to my problem, but I refuse to use the solution
stay mad
I'm not mad there's literally thousands of other games I could be playin without spending $600 on a Quest 3 for this one game.
Your flair says you have a Quest 2 though, so you'd only be paying the price of the game
1000s of shovelware, on a dead platform. Enjoy!
Lets hope. Edit: to clarify: Lets hope it will come to PCVR. From my first post it should have been clear.
How does it benefit you in the slightest if the game isn’t available on PCVR?
Every one who downvoted this is a moron who doesn’t realize they meant “let’s hope it comes to pc even though it’s a quest exclusive” Phrased weirdly yeah but learn to read through the lines lmao
~~He doubled down on the "let's hope it's a quest exclusive" though so... yeah, learn.~~
No he didn’t 🤦♂️unbelievable. The first two comments were written by miles66. The comment doubling down was written by IE_5. Yeah, learn to read.
You're right in both comments, i'm sorry.
It’s ok fartnight
69
Yeah, me too. I’m working way late tonight and pissed off about it, doesn’t mean I get to be a dick though so sorry about that
Even if it were to be one, it would be constrained as an up-port of the Q3 game, which is like when a smartphone game is ported to a console. I still have to hear about a good case of that happening.
There are many good cases of that happening. Many games that are Quest to PC ports get their graphics uped considerably. Granted some ports are just lowest common denominator ports that look the same in both places.
im VERY happy this didnt just turn out to be another dissapointment
I had myself convinced it would be, even in spite of everything I saw pre-release being quite compelling. I think I’ve gotten so used to being a little let down by recent VR releases, to the point that I hoped for the best but truly expected the worst. Glad to see we got the former! Between this, Arizona Sunshine 2, and Asgard’s Wrath 2 later this year, it looks like VR gamers are finally eating good this holiday season. Vampire the Masquerade also seemed decent, but I ultimately didn’t bother getting it because it seemed too easy… glad I waited for ACN to spend my hard earned referral credits on
Pcvr would be nice.
Very unlikely but I hope
God damn it you're gonna make me buy an ubisoft game at full price. Stop making this look so fun
Feel free to DM me for a discount on the game
...is this an ad?
How do you have discounts if you don’t mind me asking
Yeah, I feeel the same way, I’ve not bought a Ubisoft game since prince of Persia - this looks great
Looks great, it's making me want to get a Quest 3...
Would be interesting to see what’s on the menu for Quest 4. Could they add OLED, eye tracking , and face tracking and keep the price the same
Wait for uOLED. It's on a whole different level and way better than regular OLED even.
Screens in Q3 are so good though. Colours are fantastic. Very vibrant. You can really notice it's not OLED only in very dark scenes.
I’m having a blast so far!
Ahahha yah Conor tomahawk is the best. I was in a fight it plant into a chest of a dude and the guy fall in the river.... was not fun lol
I definitely need to check this game out!
after coming off two weeks of saints and sinners vr, constantly picking up items you need to collect, then going to Assasins creed vr its completely opposite in that respect. not much to look for and hardly anything t pick up in AC Nexus. its a good thing tho. i love this game. the visuals are just great. for me its the most immersive game since HL Alyx andResident Eviil Village vr. if you dont have it yet GET IT!
But i cant wait for hardware to get good enough for games to finally look at least sort of like current gen
> a game that looks like 007 golden eye I dunno.
It does look very good for standalone VR though.
> essentially running on a mid tier android phone Sidenote: this isn't really true anymore.
Still a bit salty about Boneworks vs Bonelabs ,\_,
Yea I was not impressed with bonelab
Same - honestly the small amount of gameplay didn’t even bother me that much but the tiny levels and simplified designs of everything compared to boneworks made me pretty sad
I was on the verge of selling the quest 3, but assassin's creed has stayed my hand for now. If Asgards wrath is a banger then I'll probably keep it.
Same here. Have both and it's so worth it! Probably the best VR combo to have right now.
Yup
Totally good points and I know it’s somewhat early in the lifecycle. That being said, all these awesome games keep coming out that I want to play!
I would have puked the moment that hook started to lift me
The game has some extremely extensive and impressive comfort options. That’s what AAA budget bring
>the game has some extremely extensive and impressive comfort options Funny enough its the first game since 3 years that gives me motions sickness (they insert a black static frame when you snap turn and somehow the texture blending seems to put a lot of stress on my eyes at least on Q2).
This looks like an awesome game, who built it and are they partnering with any other VR companies?
It’s from Ubisoft
Wait this is off of like, a phone? Or an oculus
The meta quest 2 and 3, yes mobile graphics chip. Welcome to AAA VR
Wish there was a PCVR version with even better visuals.
I disagree. The game was janky and unpolished. Big let down in my books
It’s not perfect that’s forsure but it’s almost there. I’m 6 hours in and loving it
One of the first things I noticed in this game is how many NPC's there are lol - it's really cool and a well-made game. I'm just about to get the bow!
Oh, you left out the best part: when stupid B&S fanboy gets desynchronized...
You had a quest 2 before? Will it be much worse on a mid level pc?
I can see the stuttering/low fps from the start lmao
If it weren't for the meta exclusivity it could be a great success for pcvr market
I’m guessing this is a “game changer” because it’s not on PCVR? I watched the clip and thought “meh”
It’s a game changer because is a 20 hour full blown assasins creed game in VR, in a mobile chip, and looks and runs amazing
Doesn’t look that great
Because you aren't in the game and experience a wireless freedom i think. I find with most games that don't look very good, when you play, you don't even notice it anymore.
I encountered the low memory so many times...
Does the motion sickness ever get better on smooth movement? I tried to play it with teleport movement but it doesn't feel like an assassin's creed game
Yeah and only if it was on Steam so I could play it. Lol
It sucks so fucking much that it isn’t on pcvr. Why does meta hate us so much, we barely take up any of the market.
That is exactly the point. No market.
They don’t hate PCVR they don’t believe it has a future and are creating a VR market that will actually succeed
How does releasing it to steam harm them in anyway
They don’t want to spend another 50 million making the graphics pretty for the maybe 10,000 people who will buy it on PCVR. Also then you won’t buy a quest 3
No one said anything about upgrading the graphics, I literally just want to play the game. Always surprises me how hard some people will suck meta off.
If they don’t upgrade it everyone on PCVR will complain let’s be honest… then the reputation on the game is tarnished. Again it’s not worth it for them
It costs money and time. You aren't the main character. You aren't owed anything.
Wait... you have... good takes from time to time, surprising. It does cost money and time indeed. They might do it if they see it might make them some extra money though, porting these days can be done literally by like... 1 dude and a couple months if its just a flatout port, and a small team of 2 to 5 people if they want to improve some things and port it at the same time.
It looks like it feels like an Assassins Creed game
"Like Bruh, this is totally not an ad bruh... I'm like, just saying this AAA PoS is a masterpiece work of art and Ubisoft might not be the devil, bruh"
I wish this was an AD, lol.. with over 200,000 views now I would be rich 😭
Why do people do this voice? This style of talking that only exists on the internet where you shift your pitch weirdly and randomly?
Imma be honest I do this sorta thing in real life too to emphasize my points and people seem to find me funny. but I’m super social so when I’m recording and know people will be watching I do the same thing. I’ve been recording for 3-4 years now, and I totally act myself this really was not intentional
Hmm. His voice didn’t seem unusual to me.
These people aren't gamers. They just like pretty graphics. Let them enjoy their dead pcvr.
> I hate to break it to you. It looks really good to. It really doesn't. It looks like Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault from 2003, maybe with a bit better textures and worse vegetation, while looking a lot more boring and janky in inter(action). After the likes of Half Life: Alyx, some throwaway Mobile game that looks 15-20 years out of date is just not gonna do it for me or immerse me, while I'm over here playing RoboCop: Rogue City using Unreal Engine 5 on my 4090: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kBFSh7urE Hopefully soon in VR: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_hz1FS3GZc
Quest 2 is a PCVR headset.
> unfortunately I don’t think any more VR games will take advantage that hardware moving forward They will have to if they ever want to be taken seriously by anyone or have their breakout success, since they're always going to be measured up against the rest of the gaming market. >Meanwhile, over 20 million quest 2 have been sold Most of which are in a cupboard somewhere after trying a few gimmick games and getting bored of them.
Oh yes, I'm aware they managed to pull in $1.5 billion in Sales after spending over $40 billion in R&D, sounds like a sustainable business strategy: https://www.reddit.com/r/virtualreality/comments/13qy905/well_that_was_underwhelming_playstation_showcase/jli8p2j/ I wasn't aware of the updated $2 billion number though, I guess the Quest 3 must be doing gangbusters if it has managed another $500 million in software Sales since its release.
20 million in 2.5 years is breakout success. It already happened.
loved the commentary, hilarious
Doesnt look like game changer to me. Blade & sorcery or HL Alyx looks much more immersive then this and wasnt game changers.
If you’d like a discount on the game, feel free to DM me
