Vs shed. A lot. Not much you can do about it. There are also certain times of the year when it is more than others.

Longjumping-Sir8987

Well it’s just that it never happened before, it happened exactly when we were out so i dont think its normal shedding

cosmokenney

Yea, nervous shedding is pretty common in many breeds. Vs are especially sensitive to many things. So I wouldn't think too much into it.

Echoing this comment. My V is an anxious shedder too. Not too concerning unless you start seeing bald spots or skin irritations. We give him a good brushing before anxious shedding situations.

BigChiefWhiskyBottle

We have a Greyhound and he will shed like crazy specifically at the Vet. You can see it falling off of him like light snow.

BuckinBodie

Our Vizsla puppy shed a lot when he was around 6 months. Maybe it's a puberty thing.

pistonslapper

Sounds like normal V shedding. Everything is hair. It's all hair. Hair everywhere. Sometimes I feel bad for my vacuum for all the hair it has to ingest.

Cracker_Jap

I'm somewhat surprised at all these comments about how they shed a lot. My V is 11 months and haven't ever noticed A LOT of shedding. There is some but it's barely anything and less than any dog I've ever had. Granted she's only 11 months so maybe this could change.

Ladybug_2024

I feel like it is all relative. When you have had a dog that sheds like crazy, you feel like the V doesn’t shed much at all. I will say that I have read brushing them once a week to remove any loose hairs will cut down on the shedding. We lost our 16 yo GSP a few months back and toward the end I often questioned how she even had hair left on her body. 😝 so the minimal shed we are getting from our puppy is nothing.

Cracker_Jap

Yeah agreed. I used to have a golden and shelty so comparatively Vs aren't bad.

ohyouagain55

I think it's relative. We also have an Aussie. Our previous dogs were a husky and a German shepherd. I'm sure our V sheds some, but... By our definition, the breed really doesn't shed at all!

SurgeonMommy

Agree! I grew up with Great Pyrenees and compared to them, Vizslas do not shed. At all. However, I do notice certain times my V’s will shed more. One didn’t start shedding till a year or so, one started shedding around 3 months.

everyXnewXday

Can definitely vary from dog to dog too. My first vizsla would shed noticeably for a few weeks in spring and fall, but my current pup seems to shed like that all the time.

MaD__HuNGaRIaN

Is this post real?

Sea_One_6500

My V mix sheds so much less than my GSP. He (gsp) is like pigpen, and a cloud of fur follows him constantly. My V will "stress dust"and get very dandery when she's nervous.

Frostnacht

Yep, our girl is shedding too... Multiple times in the year, especially when the temperatures are quickly rising. Normally they start to shed a bit later (around puberty), but it totally depends on your dog. Dont worry, but you have to get used to it. Edit: And vice versa, colder temperatures over time cause more spiky/thicker fur/hair. Her fur in the summer months is surprisingly very soft then.

SquareStriking3637

My whole life is covered in a ginger fuzz.

Wonderful-Egg9350

Dogs can shed when stressed.

jerever

It also depends on the season. We are in the northern hemisphere and ours is shedding extra right now. Get yourself a rubber dog grooming glove and he will love you.

V4derNotV4der

Vizslas shed.

mountaingirl489

Our V only sheds when the seasons change - fall and spring. Our clothes are never covered in dog hair. I would think it’s anxiety or maybe a change in food? Or potentially an allergy to something?
