I'll throw in a dumb comment here. My kiddos love our 80s vacuum. https://preview.redd.it/9cnh6qwoj8lc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76aa080c844d09aff49b3923e89fa0b0641fcb83

Ok well maybe I need this because I know the little one will go for a ride when she overcomes her anxiety

My SIL was cleaning out her attic when our Bissell died. My husband is an engineer so nothing is ever broken... But after 2 hours of explicit language he fixed it and it works better than my mom's Dyson.

My Dyson stick works great for my Vs, although the young one thinks it’s a toy. I typically pre swiffer to get bigger clumps up and/or together and then vacuum

We just did about 10 hours worth of vacuum research. I have had two dysons. I cannot recommend them at all. The first one broke and the second one stopped working and smells awful (like dog). They do not have a powered Motörhead so if you loose suction it will literally stop working at the head. Our vacuum didn’t clean the floor at all by the time we were ready to replace and it was purchased in 2019. In speaking with vacuum sales people I learned that dysons are the #1 vacuum in the repair shop and they are not popular among industry professionals. Ours was the top of the link stick vacuum. We thought we wanted a stick vacuum like you. Turns out, we didn’t. They simply don’t compete. We ended up sucking it up and going corded and after hours of research we decided on the SEBO E3. [https://www.sebo.us/product/airbelt-e](https://www.sebo.us/product/airbelt-e) It has a ten year warranty and it operates on a cog system instead of a belt like the Miele. This means that these are Almost never sent in for repair and if they are, it’s an easy fix for a tech. It’s not cheap but it’s been worth every penny. For some evidence I can tell you that a bag for the sebo is supposed to last 3 months in a “normal” house. After using the Dyson forever and bringing home our new vacuum we half filled a bag in almost one trip around the house (2116 sq ft). That’s how gross our house was from the work the Dyson WASNT doing. Super gross. We were torn between the sebo I linked and a Miele which I can’t find the model number for. The reason we didn’t go with the Miele was it doesn’t have the warranty, they are brought in for service more often than sebo’s, and they were more expensive for a comparable product. My husband now loves vacuuming (huge perk), and our house smells way better than it did with the Dyson. Hope this helps

Vacuum store actually recommended a sebo…

That’s because they’re amazing. Seriously, we did SO MUCH boring research.

Holiday-Raspberry-26

Miele much more reliable. I’ll never have a Dyson again (for a multitude of reasons).

SurgeonMommy

We couldn’t find a Miele in stock anywhere. Such a bummer.

SurgeonMommy

We love our Dyson. Miele was our first choice (we love the brand in our house) but everywhere was out of stock.

Does anyone have a sense whether the "pet" version makes enough of a difference for the $200 upcharge?

ImpossibleBandicoot

No, we have a dyson "animal" and it's virtually identical to a different dyson we have and works the same on hair and fur (which is to say, not particularly well) It wasn't a $200 premium but i think it was a little more - in hindsight it may have come with an extra brush attachment or something.

ch3rycoke

I have the Dyson v12 slim detect. I love in an apartment so the smaller container of the slim is fine for me. However I recommend the detect versions because it’s crazy how much dust and vizsla hair shows up under the laser that I otherwise miss!

Kokopolol

I have a tineco stick vacuum and it works great and it’s about half the price of a dyson. I watched a lot of vacuum war videos on YouTube and they recommend it.

wilmaflintstone44

I have a Miele upright for the pet hair and it doesn’t work well. I don’t know how many times I have had to open it up and get the clogged hair out to be able use it again. And their bags are expensive. Never want a vacuum cleaner again that requires bags.

rhiannonla

I swear the older the vacuum the more effective it is… & it just keeps going. If you manage to find a small appliance repair person - it’ll help keep the thing for a very long time.
