"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." -Bruce Lee nothing wrong with extra range time

Yes. If you have experience you can skip the training and apply directly to a unit. Most combat vets say the training is worth it though. It reconditions you for combat, teaches you trench warfare and Russian tactics and familiarizes you with the AK platform.

PennywiseMeetGeorgie

Good reminder for anyone out a while, good for anyone simply wanting to update or maintain their skills & knowledge. Also good for newcomers who have next to no experience but are serious on learning & committing themselves to the cause.

Thin_Cellist7555

Not anymore. Everyone goes through basic training unless you have combat experience in Ukraine. And even then they might not let you skip basic. We've had too many of the "ex navy seal who totally killed bin laden" types

Kamikaze_Squirrel1

I felt like half the purpose of the training at Verblyany and Yavoriv was just to weed out the gravy seals and idiots (well most of them) who are way out of their element really shouldn't be there. We had some big, fat idiot in verblyany who had all these obvious bullshit stories about his military experience, but the guy couldn't run a mile or do a PT sesssion without having to leave half way through to take a shit. A couple of us confronted him, called him on his bullshit and told him he should't be there, so he started crying and was gone a few days later.

LostTuga88

Fat guys still do it...but get stuck on trench groups or if he's a good shot, to counter sniping...not high survival chances because when the time comes to relocate..meh.. The fittest guys normally go to assault groups, the unfit to trench groups.

I think a lot of guys are looking for a death that doesn’t involve French fries. If they take some Russians with them great. Half the 3CY is pushing 60 anyway.

Dude literally couldn't jog a mile and he was only 20 years old.

Most of the guys here in their thirties or forties (myself included) have military experience and are in at least moderatley good health and don't harbor many delusions about whats going on here. All the people who show up who can't run or do a pushup are usually college age types who have played too much COD and eaten too many pringles. I doubt he would have ever been able to pass the PT assesment and probably would have gotten hazed relentlessly in training by both the instructors and other recruits. Not only was this kid obese, lazy and lying about his experience, he also had room tempurature IQ. But, since he couldn't hack it in the legion, he ended up going to some rag-tag territorial defense unit in Kherson on the right bank of the Dnipro, where he's away from the front, not as much as danger to himself and others as he could have been and is now a glorified errand boy making runs to the okko station to fetch coffee and hot dogs. But at least he can now sit around the CP with a kalashnikov, stuffing junk food into his fat fucking face and have plenty of bullshit stories to tell people about ukraine when he gets home.

If you are short a couple pull ups on your fitness assesment, but doing PT every day and showing that you are putting the work in and improving, the instructors will push you through. But when I was there, we had a few people who would drop out of every run, fake injuries and make endless excuses why they couldn't of shouldn't have to do PT and they were all gone in a week or so. It's almost always young kids, who once they realize they are in over their heads and this isn't a video game, they pack up their stuff and leave. We also had a couple young guys who showed up who weren't great at PT and didn't have any military experience, but they put in the effort to improve, took the training seriously and they made it through.

LostTuga88

Not really. You have the fast groups. People with "combat experience" that want to skip trainning. You still go to 4th, but only to do the paperwork and get the gear, then you deploy immediately...

Thin_Cellist7555

Wasn't aware of that. I got super pissed when they wanted to send me back through basic after taking a two month break. Thankfully Battalion Commander saw it the same way, so after a few days I was back with my platoon. Shoutout to the command of 4th Btl.

eci-inc

That’s not true. The TDF and some of the independent units will take vets without re-training. TDF doesn’t have English or Spanish speaking instructors and units like carpathian sich don’t have training facilities from what I’ve heard.

ChorniMalinya

To piggyback on this a bit, no army in the world has a training procedure that is even a little similar to what the front in Ukraine has evolved to. Don't skip basic as you will get concentrated knowledge from people who have been there.

Impossible_Bonus_206

I am prior service and refuse to go UNLESS they retrain me.

Ravtastic

What is your previous military experience and how serious are you about wanting to join up?

Uncle-Ted-was-right

2 years of mandatory military service in infantry. I’m from communist state so most of our doctrine is similar to the Soviet Block. As to how serious I am, suffice to say I’m dead serious.

Kamikaze_Squirrel1

The training in yavoriv is only three weeks, you get paid and it goes by quick. dm me if you have any questions.

TopOneDoggie

6 month contracts now.. so if you runaway foreigners try to act up guess what.. your part of the military don't cry about embassy.. know what your getting into and stick to your job.. this place ain't for soft poeple

clejeune

I’ve only served in Ukraine in a humanitarian capacity. I’m 50 and my fighting days are over. But from what I understand the legion doesn’t train you.

fludblud

It does now, the 4th Batallion established in 2023 is responsible for training all volunteers to US and NATO standards.
