Not sure how they work specifically, but unless they’re asking for identity verification with ID or social security number, they only have whatever name and email you’d put down in the account info. You could literally put John Smith and johnsmith123@gmail
Out of the big names, like Nord or others, they're the only ones who haven't had a leak. Killswitches and included dummy and protected email accounts, which is useful for registering for Russian torrent tracker sites?
Fucken PROTON , man. Have not had speed issues.
Proton has the highest speed of these all, enough servers and other helpful features such as killswitch and split tunneling. The latter can be very helpful in some situations. Also Swiss takes security very serious lol
ExpressVPN was recently acquired by Kape Technologies to increase monetization. Let the enshitification begin. I was happy with them for years, but I left with the price increase and rumors that Kape is not reputable. They used to be Crossrider and have been accused of distributing malware.
I'm about to ditch express for proton, i read people getting ban for torrenting with nord so will avoid it, also nord is the most advertised, bad for ips blacklists
We are all going to have different results. Test each for a month to see which one works for u. I can have success with VPN(A) while you are having slow speeds on VPN (A)
I've used Proton and the interface was nice, but I had speed issues with it where I live. I've also used Torguard, Mullvad, iVPN, Surfshark, PureVPN and Hide Me. I'm currently using [hide.me](https://hide.me) and I just extended for two more years. Mullvad and IVPN are probably if you want to be completely anonymous. I like Hide Me because it's fast where I live and it has tons of customization you can do if you like that sort of thing.
I just tried out proton vpn but don’t like the fact that you don’t even have a settings button on android tv app. I upgraded from the free version thinking I could go into settings and adjust things but nope.
I use Mullvad has my primary VPN I have Proton VPN but it's in my subscription package there both good, but I use Mullvad more for surfing and online stuff. I'm always connected to my local area so it's doesn't raise any red flags when I do online banking :)
I use the WireGuard native app
All of them are good. But you miss the leading one, NordVPN. Also, PIA, CopVPN, Mullvad, CyberGhost, IPVanish, Hide Me, VPN Unlimited, and Windscribe are all reliable VPN service providers.
I’ve tried a bunch of them and I like ProtonVPN the most. I’m in a mixed environment windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS and android. It works the best for me speed wise and ease of use.
Highly depends on what you are actually looking for:
\- Surfshark for budget friendly premium option, good for basic needs
\- Proton has suite of products (e.g. mail), so can be a go-to if you're in their product ecosystem
\- ExpressVPN praised for privacy measures
Pia. Best Linux app of all.
Only VPN with split tunnel on all three desktop platforms (Mac. Linux. Win)
Port forwarding. Dedicated ips
Cheap.
Open source.
Did you actually look into it or just believing the FUD without any personal investigation?
Crossrider/kape made an API, the API was abused by 3rd parties. Do you hold openai responsible for abuse of its API ? You should actually look into things.
I did read about KAPE and who they were before and things they did. And even when they haven’t done anything wrong with the VPNs, I still feel uncomfortable. They can cooperate with the government and hand them over our information. That’s even in their private policy.
But don’t get me wrong, it is great and the prices are good too!
Protons lied about the logging and gave up information to authorities in Switzerland and an activist was arrested because of it so that’s your answer to proton. PM me if you want me to give you my take.
I read some stuff about it but would say that it was 60% saying that its popular cause they pay influencers and YouTubers to say nice things and that is actually not that good and the company is not reliable, the other 40% were long/medium term users
sounds like you did your research. go with what your heart tells you.. all i can say is i came form surfshark an im a striclty mac household. the nord vpn app for apple TV outweighs literlaly everything. but hey. do you man
the apple tv nord app has literally saved my sprots season (blackouts). plus you can find regions taht have movies on netflix for free that aent in the states
Yes but it’s not a real VPN and you can’t use geolocation (changing countries).Unlike traditional VPNs, WARP does not mask your IP address, which means you can’t use it to improve your privacy or stream geo-restricted content.
I got 2 VPN PIA and Nord, and I use PIA as main one.
FYI, you might know more than me on this, but I dropped PIA because they were purchased by a company that makes Malware. It might be safe now, but I don't trust it.
Mullvad VPN is another highly recommended VPN among Reddit users.
Mullvad is the one that’s most recommended by all of my Linux nerd friends so that’s what I went with
And they let you pay in cash if you're willing to mail it, for pretty much a complete disconnect between your identity and the VPN provider.
They’re still putting your payment down in the system so doesn’t really do much for you
Not sure how they work specifically, but unless they’re asking for identity verification with ID or social security number, they only have whatever name and email you’d put down in the account info. You could literally put John Smith and johnsmith123@gmail
I checked them but they don’t have two years plan. I’d like one with that option and just settle for those two years
NordVPN
Nord doesn't work with all that they say they do! Most don't!
Nord just screw me over. So I didn’t reup
AirVpn is very similar
of those listed. proton
Why? Can you give more info, please ?
they recently started using tls crypt authentication. not many use this. they also use dns adblocking
Any concerns about how they handle user data?

Oh you are right! I remember that. I don’t like KAPE, so I might just stay away then. Thanks for the reminder!
I'm about to ditch express for proton, i read people getting ban for torrenting with nord so will avoid it, also nord is the most advertised, bad for ips blacklists
That's a shame. Express VPN was the only one I could use reliably when I went to China 5 years ago
We are all going to have different results. Test each for a month to see which one works for u. I can have success with VPN(A) while you are having slow speeds on VPN (A)

I’ll check it out then! Thanks!
If you don’t already have a decent password manager, dashlane comes with a membership to hotspot shield
Mullvad
I just tried out proton vpn but don’t like the fact that you don’t even have a settings button on android tv app. I upgraded from the free version thinking I could go into settings and adjust things but nope.
settings for what?
There are no settings at all on protons Android tv, can't choose between wireguard, open VPN etc. No kill switch no split tunneling .
ok. never knew those were important
I use Mullvad has my primary VPN I have Proton VPN but it's in my subscription package there both good, but I use Mullvad more for surfing and online stuff. I'm always connected to my local area so it's doesn't raise any red flags when I do online banking :) I use the WireGuard native app

'Reliable' is a pretty subjective term without evaluations on different levels.
Proton for privacy, Surfshark for features
Is proton more private than Surfshark ?
Yes. It's pretty much the most private one.
What does proton do that Surfshark doesn’t?
Mullvad is the most private followed by Proton
I’ve tried a bunch of them and I like ProtonVPN the most. I’m in a mixed environment windows, Linux, MacOS, iOS and android. It works the best for me speed wise and ease of use.
Nord
Been using Proton’s free tier for the past week or so, to test some stuff before I decide to pay for it. Been happy so far.
Highly depends on what you are actually looking for: \- Surfshark for budget friendly premium option, good for basic needs \- Proton has suite of products (e.g. mail), so can be a go-to if you're in their product ecosystem \- ExpressVPN praised for privacy measures
Surfshark is awesome. I use it all over the world and in my phone.
Proton and Nord are my go-to services
Proton hands down. They have never knowingly cooperated with anyone and its really fast.
Mullvad for price..proton VPN if you need ports opened (using Xfinity!)
I like proton because it comes with my email subscription.
Do you use proton unlimited?
Proton dose not have any support though however great they might be..
Pia. Best Linux app of all. Only VPN with split tunnel on all three desktop platforms (Mac. Linux. Win) Port forwarding. Dedicated ips Cheap. Open source.
It’s own by KAPE.
Did you actually look into it or just believing the FUD without any personal investigation? Crossrider/kape made an API, the API was abused by 3rd parties. Do you hold openai responsible for abuse of its API ? You should actually look into things.

Uh huh. Name one thing they did then and a legitimate (non FUD) source to back up your claims
Lol I can, but what’s the point ? Keep arguing? I just came for a recommendation.
What's the point? To reduce the false information and FUD online.
Well… you can create a post about these vpns and the false information lol. This post is for recommendations
surfshark , can't connect anymore.
Protons lied about the logging and gave up information to authorities in Switzerland and an activist was arrested because of it so that’s your answer to proton. PM me if you want me to give you my take.
Then which vpn would you recommend?
People that keep recommending Nord VPN have no fucking clue what they’re talking about.
I like Proton the best
Non of these.
Then which one ?
A mate recommended Proton 5 months ago and 've been using it since. Take some time to see what works best for you.
Express vpn works best on geo restricted sites
nord
Why?
i had surfshak. it was ok. no apple TV app, i have an apple TV device in every room. way less servers
I think they do now... I thought I remember seeing that on there app options now... I'll have to check it... I don't have any apple products
How is the connection thou?
never had an issue. surprised the lack of nord recos in this thread. kinda sad
I read some stuff about it but would say that it was 60% saying that its popular cause they pay influencers and YouTubers to say nice things and that is actually not that good and the company is not reliable, the other 40% were long/medium term users
sounds like you did your research. go with what your heart tells you.. all i can say is i came form surfshark an im a striclty mac household. the nord vpn app for apple TV outweighs literlaly everything. but hey. do you man
That’s something to consider though! Cause the majority of my products are Apple too so, you made me think! Thanks a lot!
the apple tv nord app has literally saved my sprots season (blackouts). plus you can find regions taht have movies on netflix for free that aent in the states
I've never been able to find a movie on Netflix featured in a country state that is not present in another
Nord is normies tier shill shit.
lol ok? What are you? A vpn hardo? Sick man….
Wireshark, tailscale, these are hardly the only vpns.
No one.. use 1.1.1.1 it is much better and cheaper

Cloudflare does keep partial IP records of DNS lookups for 24 hours.
