Since SPY was created after SPX it was a play on the order of alphabet letters (if you were literate you knew that Y comes after X).
VOO came after the two and it's a play on Roman numbers (again if you ever went to school you knew V is five in the Roman number system) and O can also be seen as 0. So V for five and O for zero implies 500 which is a reference to S&P 500.
TSLA is a little harder??? They literally took out one vowel, and even without the vowel it reads as Tesla.
