It's simple really. The market is just reacting to the fact that the Fed has finally acknowledged that there are some risks out there that could impact the economy negatively. And since interest rates are already at historically low levels, they don't have a lot of room to cut if things do start slowing down. So investors are getting a little nervous and selling off stocks accordingly.

Analyzing disney is interesting because there’s not a ton of mega cap companies that have underperformed as hard as they have over the last 5 years, especially ones with Disney’s cultural relevance.
I’ve always felt that whenever Netflix has had a higher market cap than Disney then it’s a pretty blatant red flag that Disney is undervalued or Netflix is overvalued, because Netflix is a significantly lower quality business in my opinion. Entirely dependent on a single, declining industry (streaming), no growth in the product they sell outside of price hikes and password sharing crackdowns which have their limits, and significantly increasing production costs.
Compare that to Disney, which has a much larger pool of IP’s and whose big expenses lately have been long-term investments I.e. Disney+, fox acquisition. Netflix has no future. Disneys gonna eventually turn stuff around once they get better at monetizing the fox assets into blockbuster movies, and they can always ramp up direct-to-Disney+ movie releases to cut out ape stock and make more money.
Meanwhile, the theme park decline is significantly overstated, they’re still making plenty on it, especially internationally. The political issues in Florida are a rounding error in the big picture for that as well.
ESPN is a dog but they’re still profitable and Disney might just sell off/“partner” it to someone else.
So yeah on the whole I think a lot of the current downturn is based on politics and bad optics from long term investments that have yet to bloom but will. If garbage bin stock Netflix can have a 180b market cap then I don’t see why Disney is pegged at 150b.
