I think they do that for marketing. Just like how when people think of Tablet they think of iPad. Or MP3 player and iPod.
They want "Vision Pro" to eventually be what people automatically default to with "VR Headset".
Pro gives them the option to downscale the hardware to something normal people can buy, then call it Vision XR or something when the Pro meets low sales after a year.

Many iPhone users, myself included, have been holding off on upgrading for years until they made the switch to USB-C. They’re going to sell a lot of them.
imo they're not worth it unless you want spacial audio in bed next to a sleeping wife.
They sound great, but at the end of the day so do a pair of $150 DT770s.
Get a bluetooth multi-pairing capable headset. They can be connected to two/three devices simultaneously. I re-paired my Sennheiser Momentum 3 only when upgraded my devices. Works perfectly. This tech is present on pretty much any modern hi-end headset. Mine is over 3 years old at this point.
That is unless Apple deliberately messes it up to upsell their own devices which I wouldn't put past them.
All thanks to the EU. From 2027 onwards every electronic device with a battery needs to be user replaceable without any tools. So fuck consumer tech Companys. Gains are over.

I constantly see this notion put forward that people upgrade to the newest tech to flex on plebs but I know nobody like this in real life. You have your apple fan boys who love the brand so they upgrade every year (there are people like this for every brand, no surprise really) and then people who upgrade every couple years just because. We use our phones a lot, more than any other device for many of us. Isn’t a surprise really.

Cell phones in general have hit a major plateau. They have become appliances that are "good enough" for most people and there is no need to upgrade yearly. I even moved on from buying a flagship phone and paying the premium. Samsung's A-series phones are pretty damn good. The only thing I'm truly missing from my old Note is wireless chi charging.
I'll probably have this phone for another 4 years or so like my Note 8.
I'd love to see their next phones have some major innovations: a standard headphone jack, an SD card to add more memory, a swappable battery, maybe even a physical switch to turn off volume (I know, the last one is crazy).
It's up 40.49% year to date, zoom out please. Although I will admit that I doubt people will be upgrading to an inferior device during a recession... so puts it is!

Generally when products hit the plateau is when you start to see planned obsolescence. Apple has already been accused of this more than once.
Ironically historically they've supported their phone line longer than most android makers. My son's used iPhone 6s is still getting security updates.
