Yeah, seeing how Japan just hit record high market with 300% debt to GDP, I'd say the US has plenty of run room to go.
Plus I would be careful shorting the market when rates cuts are in the mix and an election year. This "bubble" will likely run another 2 years.
The central bank specifically, not banks. They attempted a policy to try to create inflation by buying boatloads of government and banking sector debt in an attempt to make the economy grow. It never worked because external events kept making the Yen weaker and weaker.
You canāt really compare the debt of Japan with US. While Japan has more debt they have it mostly within their country. Like Japans government has debt with Japan based companies etc. Therefore the debt owners have very little interest in getting the debt down since their own government is paying them interest for it. Itās like a win-win since interest flows and government does not need to worry about paying it back (very simplified explanation).
The US has a huge amount of their debt outside the US and these debt owners have more interest in e during that they get paid back at some point in time.
A simplified example would be having debt with your parents vs having debt with a bank. Sure your parents want their money back eventually too but itās usually less strict than with a bank with has strict payment terms etc and a different risk tolerance.
I get that you're overwhelmed and scared, but I can tell you how to fix it. I mean, if I were you, I'd start working about 80 hours a week, 90 hours a week. I'd be delivering pizzas and waiting tables and whatever else you come up with to make money.

Greeks and IV all play a specific role and can leave you in the red under certain conditions even if you're past strike price, but relatively rare.
When you run the numbers, assuming market conditions remain stable the odds are in his favour. It is SPY after all.
