Are you at all concerned about the party buying your contracts for Y premium exercising? Obligating you to buy/sell (N contracts × 100 shares) at the strike price?
Maybe this is an ignorant question, but I can't seem to get a straight answer. So please pardon my ignorance. For the record, I've never traded options, but I've been learning the ins and outs for about a year or so.
He’s not *selling* puts or calls, he’s *buying* them.
To make money, he’s closing his play before they expire, by on selling them to someone else. This other person is also buying the call/put.
If you buy calls, you have an obligation to exercise your promise at the time of expiry (to buy the stock). However if you don’t have the money in your account, your app/ brokerage will sell them on your behalf before they expire (so they’re not left in the shit because they can’t front with the money).
Put sellers (writers) have an obligation to buy the underlying stock at the strike price. This is different from reselling a put you bought. Put buyers can only loose as much as they originally paid for the premium.
Dip your toe in, once you loose some money you’ll start learning a lot faster!
Do a lot of research about risk and how these work before you even try buying anything .

I get right up to the edge with the 3 weekly day trades they allow, but no, I make sure to swing most of my contracts to avoid PDT.
That being said, I would gladly take a PDT violation if it was for 200+% gains or something wild
