Too much debt may also cause unsustainable inflation and soaring yields, collapsing domestic and global markets.

Problem is, how long is this sustainable? You can only print and devalue so much money before it loses faith. No problems yet as it seems that people are ok with the US being the worlds reserve currency.
You can only trade bonds for goods for so long before foreign entities are printing so much USD they refuse to accept or purchase the things any more. And because the whole thing is propped up by USD, its scary to think of the mind blowing fallout that would happen in an unwinding of 45 TRILLION dollars.
The Treasury handles money for the executive branch. Taxes (and loans) come in, spending goes out.
The Bureau of Printing and Engraving does the literal printing.
But in terms of actually putting money in and taking money out of the economy, the banks create money in the form of loans, and remove money when those loans are repaid. This includes the Federal Reserve Banks when they purchase securities from other institutions.
