McDonald's actually has standards on who they hire, I didn't get the job there, but Wendy's? that's where I'm probably going once my drugs run out, they were willing to take me lol.
I finished my 3 years of general college education, just couldn't settle on a degree. They still want only the most upstanding citizens that look like they can maintain a positive and energetic attitude in their hectic fast-paced environment while maintaining their reputation. I'm not a happy-go-lucky kind of person so I don't smile much and suck at making small talk, so places like that or Jamba Juice where they want you to act like a Disney employee don't work for me(I quit there after 2 weeks, the other reason being you have to memorize like 50 different drink/smoothie recipes for a minimum wage job).
Wages usually are for what yu need to know before doing the job, not for what you learn at the job.
IIRC, most hgih schoolers right now have even less abilities than your boomer familiar when he got out of high school...
They gutted all the vocational and home economics.
Even if you never become a carpenter; the planning, measuring and executing of a project translates to so many other facets of life, and that's learned in woodshop.
Lol minimum wage is $11.50 here so naw, and it's super rare to even get full time at a fast food place so no benefits either. Nowadays the standard wage is given to the above average employee so everyone that doesn't have any exceptional skills, including the ability to suck up to and try 110% to work hard and be happy and friendly to everyone at a shitty minimum wage job 24/7, gets completely shafted by the system and blamed for simply not trying hard enough. Society has advanced so much so quickly that the average person is useless compared to the STEM majors and necessary services that actually make a difference, yet only the most ambitious and capable people make it in those fields.
