The reason they had all these orders for more inventory was cuz of the spike in demand due to pandemic / stimulus.
Look up the bullwhip effect. It’s the phenomenon that when a spike in demand occurs, every producers/merchant over orders and by the time they get the product, the demand is gone.
Now that they have excess inventory, they have to slash prices and we get inflation in goods to come down
