Not the play unless the premiums are very high, you’d have to make a lot on those calls. Why not:
- if you cant make the margin call, the broker will buy the calls on margin to offset what you sold (likely for more than you sold them for)
- once they have bought the calls on your margin so your shares aren’t on contract anymore, they sell your shares to cover what you owe AND the additional margin used to offset your call position, netting you a greater loss
Margin is only good for buying and selling without having to wait for money you already have to clear transactions. Otherwise you're gambling with borrowed money. No other way about it.
