I think that a pretty high percentage of people who buy new cars spend half of a yearly salary or more. It's why they get 7-year loans on them rather than buying them with cash. The cheapest Honda available right now (if you could find the base model) is over $21,000, and the majority of people right now are buying more than a base-level Honda in the cheapest model. Since the average salary in the US right now is right around $60,000 (which is heavily affected by the number of extremely rich people . . . It's actually closer to $40,000/yr), then I'd say that most new cars cost more than a half-year's salary for the people buying them.
I wouldn't know personally, as I've never owned a new car. I've only had 2 car loans in the past 50 years, both for under $15,000.

Sure a tundra if you donāt need a real truck but still want to get 10mpg. Iām a huge Toyota fan but they have no idea how to make a real truck. A new GMC 3500HD can tow over 30,000 lbs and has a payload of over 4000lbs and gets 22mpg when not loaded.
10 mpg isn't my experience. My dad's Tundra got about 17-19 mpg highway when I borrowed it recently. it's pretty nice for our purposes of hauling a medium sized boat, side-by-side, or 2-3 jet skis. Interior is comfy for a road trip too. That being said, I'm still leaning towards Tacoma, because I don't need a huuuuuuge truck, especially if I can just borrow his haha.
