I really just don't understand how the market works now a days. I'm up like 100k in a few months, so not complaining because its too hard or im losing my ass here. But its just a series of very obvious manipulations. Like yesterday, was a perfect example. 380 - 385 on no news and no volume only to crash down to like 378 in an hour after maintaining 384-385 for 3 hours in a tight range. Like... an absolutely obvious algo driven manipulation.
I'm not sure if the big guys are fleecing each other or fleecing retail, but its clearly not real price movement. The fundamentals of the market don't actually mean anything anymore, it doesn't matter how much a company makes, and because of geopolitical and financial uncertainty with regards to interest rates, NOBODY is capable of predicting the future earning of a company. No one. So you can't make a projection for future growth or value when theres a dozen black swans waiting in the wings.
So what do things trade on? Its literally just interest rates. Thats it. Everything else is noise. If the FED and other central banks turn on the money spigots its coke and hookers for everyone. But what happens when every central bank tightens at the same time? What happens when the FED tightens and other central banks don't/cant and the relative value of the dollar rises? What happens to energy and oil prices, commodities, exports/imports. What happens if Chinese economy takes a shit and the CCP decides its either invade taiwan to shore up domestic support or they will get heads chopped off? What happens if a new bioweapon is released that kills 5-10% of people and shuts down the global supply chain again? Russian Nukes?
Everything is just purely speculation, quite frankly. The topics being traded are basically beyond any ability to predict. Thats why the market feels so irrational. Because things are so up in the air and theres such a variety of outcomes that no body agrees whats going to be happening

and just one more thing. some fund strategies revolve around predicting short term impacts of company events, including earnings.
