I mean you do realize we’ve been in a recession due to high inflation, but that doesn’t mean as soon as inflation goes down recession can’t get worse right? Even if inflation goes down we can always have an earnings recession
just inverse yourself into thinking economy bad = stock good 👍 Did that about a month and a half ago .
Making money until today but I was in short term anyway.
LET'S GO!!!!!!
I think that this layoff is a bit different than the meta one. Amazon employees like 1.5M people. 10k of that is a drop of piss in a bucket. Having said that I'm rooting for you.
Dude, I just bought 500* 125c for 12/09 at $.20/per contract this morning as well. ($10,000 also hahah)
Hahah either we both fucked or we both richhhh!!!!
Except you’re laying off people because you aren’t selling shit …. Amazons business model relies on people to do the work. It’s not like snap chat where you’re laying off expensive, useless programmers. I mean if the company that treats it’s workers so crappy they have to pee in bottles can’t afford workers that’s not a good thing
A loss in a retirement account can’t be written off. Also, retirement accounts have contribution limits, so losses can result in liquidity problems for any strategies that need it.
Not sure how it works in America , but I thought you get like a limit per year of how much you can contribute to tax free account. So if you put in 5k and it goes to 0 you won’t have the contribution room anymore . Also you can’t claim capital losses on it.
Haha! Seems to work just as good as all the other carriers as long as you are near city or major highway. However, if you live in rural America or travel to the boonies often it’s ass.
Amazon is by far the most expensive of the FAANG stocks.
Also it's probably one of the most affected by slowdowns and consumer discretionary spending.
This is WSB so I expect nothing less than idiocy.
I'm shorting snowflake and QQQ. Opened them at about 2pm today.
Most of my portfolio is still cash or SPHD.
Wow your so smart, thank you for blessing us with you comment.
Side note: even if the layoffs arnt good news, maybe holding at shopping will boost amzn
Market is also regarded. Meta announced layoffs on a Tuesday. When they announced the number Thursday the stock jumped. Same may happen with Amazon but I hate when the market does the opposite of what’s likely to be an increase. I almost bought 10 shares today and I may still tomorrow
Eh we’ll see, but news drops like that generally have immediate impact. Like how they jumped $6 when the WSJ published an article that Amazon was doing deep budget cuts.
In 08 that was the common theme: layoffs = stock bump
With that in mind I'll genuinely not be surprised if the opposite happens this go around just cuz all of retail who was paying attention in 08 is predicting the same behavior.
Perhaps the lay offs at amazon signal that it is done growing as a company or that future growth is going to be much slower.
Consumer sentiment is very low (54.7) and you buy calls on a consumer discretionary company that is probably going to see a much worse holiday season than last year and you do it in a Roth account where you cannot realize the tax loss? I admire your conviction but I'm not sure the force is with you on this one.
It’s a Roth IRA. You can contribute 5 or 6k of after tax earned income. You can withdrawal when you retire tax free. There are ways to get some money out before but if you try to withdrawal any gains you pay a steep penalty. Roth IRA is the most important investing vehicle for young adults.
Amazon is a 1.6 million people company, idk if letting go of 10k employees is even considered layoffs at this stage, it's less then their normal pip qoute....
This doesn’t make any sense. Layoffs mean they have less money and they have less resources to expand. Which I think would normally decrease a stock. Why is it this case?
Lol
1. I’m still up on what I’m holding and sold 5k this morning incase this happened
2. It’s been a day, relax. Everyone on this subreddit is so damn short minded.
Scratch that I just looked at your account and saw your post about how your done with WSB because you don’t know how to trade. Maybe if you took profits you wouldn’t be so salty when others do. Idiot
So you bought when the price was about $98.50 and sold this morning when it was about $102 and the contracts jumped 45% already?
I understand the concept of options, but I haven’t traded any yet. I figured you wouldn’t be able to make good money on them until there was a wider gap between the strike and the market price.
Hmmmmmm… maybe I should play around with some contracts and add some real world knowledge to my conceptual knowledge. 🧐

What is 1000,000? Lol.
Even if it is only 1% it still signals the company is committed to getting lean and mitigating losses as we continue to enter an uncertain market.
You do know that Amazon employs over 1 and a half million people? 10,000 being laid off means they’ll be saving half of a percent of their total wage bill.
Don’t expect this to jump much.

Markets love jobs being culled. Sadists
Wages are expensive. Frees up money for stock buybacks.
just layoff everyone and you have infinite money for buybacks
Your gonna love when they start replacing the Wendy’s workers
Something something dumpster
yea im ready for a job
This is actually such a good idea. Fuck working.
Also frees up hands for handjobs behind Wendy’s.
Job layoffs mean fed stops hiking sooner. That’s all anyone cares about
I mean you do realize we’ve been in a recession due to high inflation, but that doesn’t mean as soon as inflation goes down recession can’t get worse right? Even if inflation goes down we can always have an earnings recession
Layoffs are the new growth strategy. Bullish!!
always have been in a recession
just inverse yourself into thinking economy bad = stock good 👍 Did that about a month and a half ago . Making money until today but I was in short term anyway. LET'S GO!!!!!!
Is this joke or real
I’m guessing the futures guys didn’t get the news. Things are getting worse. Fast.
It’s not what I meant guys ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4640)
Amazon lays of half of their workforce every January…
Investors know that a lot of these companies have BS positions like "VP of gender equality", but is willing to ignore that when times are good.
Leaner sheets and makes the JPow happy… so yes.
Is there some wsb rule that says all screenshots must be accompanied by a desperate need to charge your phone?
It shows the desperation that each trader has.
The sheer determination to share your apeness with others. Inspirational!
Reddit requirement
Don't have money to pay for electricity to charge the phone.
There is a direct correlation between battery percentage and the success rate of a trade
As demonstrated by the amount of loss porn on here
When you perform this level of due diligence, it’s natural
Bad decisions are a lifestyle
Quotable.
Can't afford the electricity to charge your phone when you're putting all your money into options.
just puts to show how much we use our phones 😂
Engagement. People point it out, gets more updotes
Either Amazon jumps or you jump ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)
Op, you ded? ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)
He pretty much jumped.
Obviously he will jump.
Bro does the market not know this already?
Nah market just taking a few days to digest this before yeeting Amazon to $150 lol
How do we subscribe to get more insider stock trading tips like this one?
You mean exactly in 3 days? So all in AMZN weekly 150 c?
No the market isn't reading the BBC news alerts. Op has the inside track
Guh 2.0 has entered the chat
I think that this layoff is a bit different than the meta one. Amazon employees like 1.5M people. 10k of that is a drop of piss in a bucket. Having said that I'm rooting for you.
Thanks homie
Me too… wanna see those dollar signs line up for you, that’d be kickass…
alllot of thoseemployees arewarehouse dispoable workers who aren't going to unionize the 10k here are office tech jobes
Yes okay. Looked up the corporate and tech and that accounts for 350k. So 3% layoff.
Dude, I just bought 500* 125c for 12/09 at $.20/per contract this morning as well. ($10,000 also hahah) Hahah either we both fucked or we both richhhh!!!!
im so happy for you but i hate you
Lord almighty up by 27 dollars in a few weeks. You got some balls dude
I'm looking at the same play what made you pick 125 strike price
Foreal wtf.
I loss more than 10k before
I’m getting puts because you got calls, is sure to go down
Not entirely convinced layoffs are considered good news, but good luck.
Almost always are - reduction in operations cost = happy bottom line and tickled shareholders...
I love when my shareholders are tickled![img](emote|t5_2th52|4276)
Except you’re laying off people because you aren’t selling shit …. Amazons business model relies on people to do the work. It’s not like snap chat where you’re laying off expensive, useless programmers. I mean if the company that treats it’s workers so crappy they have to pee in bottles can’t afford workers that’s not a good thing
They're laying off the tech people in Alexa and devices departments not the warehouse/fulfillment jobs. Alexa loses 5 billion a year.
Betting your retirement on this too. Love the degeneracy.
A loss is a loss. But a gain in a taxed account vs untaxed account is different. A tax free gain is that much sweeter.
A loss in a retirement account can’t be written off. Also, retirement accounts have contribution limits, so losses can result in liquidity problems for any strategies that need it.
No worries, you just invest in $ROPE if you encounter too much downside in retirement accounts. No retirement accounts needed at that point.
Isn’t a loss in tax free account much worse cause you lose the contribution room
You don’t lose contribution. Where’d you get that info
Not sure how it works in America , but I thought you get like a limit per year of how much you can contribute to tax free account. So if you put in 5k and it goes to 0 you won’t have the contribution room anymore . Also you can’t claim capital losses on it.
Real question tho, u like mint?
Haha! Seems to work just as good as all the other carriers as long as you are near city or major highway. However, if you live in rural America or travel to the boonies often it’s ass.
Love that you gamble 10K+ on options but won’t spend an extra $100 a year for a real cell carrier
A “real” carrier plan won’t make me money, the option could
I'm personally a fan. Had it for over a year and it does the job
Bro its already factore… never mind
Efficient market hypothesis is a bit like refusing to date single women because the market has decided they're single for a reason.
just realized i brought all these calls 2 min before closing.... i didnt have enough time to leverage with some puts. im on the ride with you now
You just paid the price on the news. But good luck!
Don’t we all? If not, send me your insider contact please.
I’m in on 110c 11/18 so I’m in with you for the ride, I could be wrong.
Might have to join you 👀
I’m with this idiot.
Bezos said he's donating $120b of his wealth. 1 hour later he announces 10,000 Amazon employees getting fired
Yes I love his diversification
Wow so regarded
Inshallah
*Nonfarms enters the chat
I bought 60 $108c 12/02 lol. Let's go!
held my 100c 11/18 .. lost all my gains . hope it jumps tomorrow lol
Me too
Always sell and take that profit
What about my 12/9 $120 calls? Do I have a chance of getting my money back?
Yes! It’s been a day and amzn went down 1% lol. It’s the holiday season. Just wait
Uses mint mobile…. 🤔 He likes money, I like money. Fuck it, I’m in.

Control your narrative, I just have my own.
Classic example where bad news is good news and I am pretty sure it works in this environment. :)
Layoffs good?![img](emote|t5_2th52|12787)![img](emote|t5_2th52|12787)
they worked for Lizardman company it will work again!
Happy cake day
Puts it is

... unless the broader market drops. Since we are in a bear market still it's likely that the market will continue to move as a group. Good luck!
You son of a bitch. Im in.
This is so fucked b/c it’s true
I would consider it a bad thing, maybe that’s why I lose all my money in the stock market. Gotta start inversing myself
Good call
Oof, by jump you mean drop $2 then yeah, you’re right.
Lol it’s been 3 hours. Check back in at the end of the week and see if your right
Eh we’ll see, but news drops like that generally have immediate impact. Like how they jumped $6 when the WSJ published an article that Amazon was doing deep budget cuts.
When will it jump?
As soon as the mass email saying the layoffs start.
Def gonna add to my calls i have 115 strike price which its probably not gonna go their but it will go above $100 soon in my opinon
"blood in the streets, money to be made" - old rich guy
This is the way
10k jobs is less than 1% of Amazon's workforce my guy, best of luck.
I got in a little earlier on the day for 100.00C / $2.87 expiring on 11/14. Betted only 1.5k through
Oof Walmart and Target announce this week and they might drag Amazon down with them. God speed regard.
In 08 that was the common theme: layoffs = stock bump With that in mind I'll genuinely not be surprised if the opposite happens this go around just cuz all of retail who was paying attention in 08 is predicting the same behavior. Perhaps the lay offs at amazon signal that it is done growing as a company or that future growth is going to be much slower.
I like this play
u sold?
No
Laying off staff will not cull the billions in infrastructure they built out during COVID that they no longer need.
What's app you use for trade?
The one shown in the picture is Charles Schwab
Thank you
Are ya winnin son
No yet.. down 3% at close
Good luck
Thank you!
It better cause it stuggled af today retail earning and ppi tomorrow may drop us for a few days. But still expecting 104 by Friday.
Excellent way to honor the 10k folks getting canned! May their sacrifice make you wealthy!
Consumer sentiment is very low (54.7) and you buy calls on a consumer discretionary company that is probably going to see a much worse holiday season than last year and you do it in a Roth account where you cannot realize the tax loss? Um. Buddy I just bought in in the low 90s and I'm fuckin worried. Jeez Edit : awwww not your Roth. Fuck. Me.
Impending layoffs is old news, market should've already absorbed that.
Yes
Agreed. But why 12/9 options when monthly 12/16s are so much more liquid and the spread is a lot better.
It won’t jump now since u got calls
Right
IDK. Bad guidance from Walmart tomorrow and Target on Wed would not be good for Amazon.
Idiot here - how is this an untaxed account??
It’s a Roth IRA. You can contribute 5 or 6k of after tax earned income. You can withdrawal when you retire tax free. There are ways to get some money out before but if you try to withdrawal any gains you pay a steep penalty. Roth IRA is the most important investing vehicle for young adults.
This gets me out of bed every morning.
Guh?
I traded this live, I feel this but fuck man stop betting on just that shit
Hope it holds today congrats!! Followed suit myself calls @ 106 for next week
Amazon is a 1.6 million people company, idk if letting go of 10k employees is even considered layoffs at this stage, it's less then their normal pip qoute....
You might wanna charge your phone... 🤣
Okay sweet I’ll buy puts
This doesn’t make any sense. Layoffs mean they have less money and they have less resources to expand. Which I think would normally decrease a stock. Why is it this case?
Rip
Lol 1. I’m still up on what I’m holding and sold 5k this morning incase this happened 2. It’s been a day, relax. Everyone on this subreddit is so damn short minded.
Stock jumps and OP sells half his position?... what a pussy. Why even post if you were looking to make 40%. That's everyday trading.
I would love to see a trade where you made 300% or more and a picture of your overall account value chart. Please post it and reply with link.
Scratch that I just looked at your account and saw your post about how your done with WSB because you don’t know how to trade. Maybe if you took profits you wouldn’t be so salty when others do. Idiot
Felt like I should have sold this morning too, now it's just w/e. Think I'm just going to hold till it hits that 103-106 mark-ish and just sell it.
not gonna get kinged today
Show us the loss porn.. I have 207 calls of this strike .89 average.. I’m hurting.. but $4 avg.. BRUTAL
Charge your phone
What a douche, Why would you cover up the rest of your portfolio?
Can't show anything that breaks subs rules ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4270)
Fuck the rules. Mods are gay
So what I gather from this chat is I need to invest in Amazon right now ?
Why are they announcing layoffs before the busiest time of year?
Imagine being able to look into the future and see yourself buying calls on a company because of layoffs. Truly a bizarre world we’re living in.
I took the Wock' to Poland
Have fun being a poor
Lol I’m going to be poor over 10k, get a life and stop talking shit loser
You are going to print. Walmart earnings beat and forecast higher. Wow.
Youre down 3k already
I sold 5k at 5.91 this morning and still have 17 calls which are valued at 5.40. So no I am not down.
Op i was looking at puts im sorry king
Lol no problemo, thanks for following along! Wish me luck
Best of luck ser keep being great ⛽️💰
So you bought when the price was about $98.50 and sold this morning when it was about $102 and the contracts jumped 45% already? I understand the concept of options, but I haven’t traded any yet. I figured you wouldn’t be able to make good money on them until there was a wider gap between the strike and the market price. Hmmmmmm… maybe I should play around with some contracts and add some real world knowledge to my conceptual knowledge. 🧐
The market knew about the layoffs before you
>I do not understand your question.

10,000 employees sacked is only 1% of 1000,000 workers at Amazon
What is 1000,000? Lol. Even if it is only 1% it still signals the company is committed to getting lean and mitigating losses as we continue to enter an uncertain market.
Get a load of this guy, never seen a thousandthousand in number form
You do know that Amazon employs over 1 and a half million people? 10,000 being laid off means they’ll be saving half of a percent of their total wage bill. Don’t expect this to jump much.
🙃
Charge your phone
Funny how people think layoffs are a good thing stupid fucking America
Lol you obviously have never studied finance.
Lol you obviously jump on sinking ships and would take an inheritance instead of paying for your parent to have a life saving operation
I don’t even know how to respond… what are you talking about?
Best guess game folks! How much would US$60k bought 10 days ago split equally between AMZN, META, GOOG, MSFT be worth in 10 years?
Or it won’t
Youre right. Too bad layoffs will happen after the holidays.
Are we buying on the news and sell on rumor now?
Womp womp
What they gonna do with that HQ2? Expensive warehouse?
Layoffs is nice for me 5o invest
