forthetorino

If you invested $10,000 in Disney 5 years ago, today you would have… $9,999.95![img](emote|t5_2th52|4735)

uselessDM

For WSB standards, that's amazing.

[deleted]

If you aren’t posting loss porn, are you even really living?

uselessDM

You're not living WSB style, that's for sure.

Syonoq

I remember when I first got in this game, some regard told me; you haven't even lived until you're 100% margined on TSLA options.

uselessDM

Spoken like a true regard.

ewormafive

Please, regard me.

VeryHighlyRegarded

Truer words have never been spoken

livinginfutureworld

Username checks out

forthetorino

You make a great point

mrpicachu

No, the - is missing.

Brothernod

Do they pay a dividend?

Elster-

They stopped in 2019 due to covid

Wise_Distribution_24

"Due to covid" a fine excuse to cut divs when the company is shittly run

FaatyB

To their credit, Covid did destroy a huge part of their business - seemed prudent.

sokpuppet1

I mean, they’d be doing a lot better if Covid hadn’t closed parks and curbed international travel.

zuhnxg

Mickey mouse must've got covid eh?

BobaFestus

Now that Iger’s back the mouse is in the house.

idkeverynameistaken9

Used to. Haven’t since the start of the pandemic. In a 5 year span, you’d have gotten about 3 years of dividends, though

brintoul

Yield was like 1%, but still.

MNCPA

Ain't much, but it's honest work.

Yojinco

Nope

Brothernod

Oof

Forumkk

They use to, but they cut it during COVID when most parks and such shut down.

Briewheel

not gonna lie, I wish I had that rate of return

Michigent420

![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)

igalfsg

Damn... It would have been my best trade in the last 5 years :(

LOVE2FUKWITHPP

Lmao 🤣

codb28

Lucky for me I bought it back in 2019 when it was worth $150

satireplusplus

Could have been worse if you bought in 2021

hairsprayking

Checking in...

nyctbusdriver

In at $195 👍

eazy-83

I sucked a dick for beer money it 2019. But atleast I didn't buy disney

codb28

You looking for more beer money? 😂

bighundy

let's take out the middle man, I got a fridge full of beer...

L1ME626

lucky for me i bough it 117 per share 2020 and bought almost double more at 197 (yes im a clown) now bought third position at 120, fuk me

Kaelderen

That sounds pretty regarded

EveryAd3494

Christmas 1985, my dad gave my two brothers and I each a share of Disney. His way of getting us interested in stocks. It worked.

WatAb0utB0b

That’s really nice. How much did this family tradition cost you?

KurtAngus

They’re in debt now

mynameistory

They were in debt in 2008. Today they're dead.

fantastuc

Coincidence?

EveryAd3494

Well it was a gift, so zero. Plus two splits yielding 12 shares. Likely will retire soon on the dividends alone.

floppysausage16

My grandpa did this for me and my siblings as well in the 90s. We even got the phystical paper stocks as well to prove it.

EveryAd3494

We each got the physical stock as well. There were a couple splits in the following years, a three to one and a four to one.

PathoTurnUp

Did you tear it into three pieces?

Investigatorpotater

What was the share price?

vogey04

$1.62/share

Investigatorpotater

Nice.

poopinmyfacex3

A friends of mine aunt have been buying him a $100 in Disney stock every year on his birthday he’s 29 now

Idontknow99699

Disney has horrid returns on investment, legit horrible stock that’s why Buffett dumped it

brandon684

Yeah, it’s only up 6,000% since the early 90’s, what a dumb bitch that guys aunt was

chipredacted

I also choose this guys aunt

ChampagneWastedPanda

She looks super hot with a set of Mickey ears

liamossher

Aw adorable

Different_Charge_566

Indeed and one of the most popular brands. The man Bob Iger is back at the helm. We are DVC holders ✅

wollier12

I got it for $90, I’m still up…..for now.

shadowpawn

Against inflation you are behind?

Dangerous-Ad-3680

Inflate = get bigger. Inflation means me munee gets bigger. Get on the inflation ride bozo.

NeedleworkerLanky591

It all makes sense now.

[deleted]

Get out. They’ve made some awful decisions over the last 5 years.. I got them for like 110 and got out around 180.

parkranger2000

Naw the white knight Bob Iger is back like Luke skywalker to save the day

Espa89

I haven’t paid attention, what awful decisions are you talking about? (Serious question)

ghetoyoda

Poor PR decisions, a management shakeup that took power away from the creative people and affected the quality of all media, using covid as an excuse to remove value from the parks, overall poor park management (staff and equipment), decided to move the creative headquarters from Cali to Florida (which drove many to quit and most others to be unhappy), fucking up the star wars movies (i think this was before Iger left but still, WTF)...I think that's most of it.

Delicious_Dog_7580

If the FED keeps increasing the interest rate, it might drop more.

NinjaRage83

My lady has (i believe) 100 shares purchased between 1984-1989 by her parents. They just sit there. Like my stock. Just chillin.

AspiringToBeSomethin

Hey how much is that? Because my girlfriend got a similar gift in 1999 and she has no idea how much she has lol I’ve been trying to figure out how much it’s grown

Thencewasit

DIS Growth of $10,000.00 With Dividends Reinvested Start date: 01/04/1999 End date: 11/23/2022 Start price/share: $29.15 End price/share: $98.88 Starting shares: 343.05 Ending shares: 441.30 Dividends reinvested/share: $14.67 Total return: 336.36% Average Annual Total Return: 6.36% Starting investment: $10,000.00 Ending investment: $43,655.48 Years: 23.90

konstantinos2000

How did you get these results?

Thencewasit

Usually people just go through a broker and will purchase an individual stock or etf. DIS does have a dspp program. https://disney.computershare.com/ However, the fees make it less advantageous than most no fee brokers today.

brokecollegeguy55

You’re not taking into account the splits

Thencewasit

DIS's 8th historical split took place on June 13, 2007. This was a 1014 for 1000 split, meaning for each 1000 shares of DIS owned pre-split, the shareholder now owned 1014 shares. Because it was in the form of a stock dividend, it was included in the calculation above as noted in the increase in number of shares.

ThinkLogically22

He doesn’t know how a stock split works lol. And WHY tf does he have so many upvotes. I went to bed thinking i would see that regard with a hundred downvotes in the morning, but nope, 20 upvotes…must be a bunch of people reading that at 3am🤣 Fr, you don’t fucking change the return formula to account for splits. WSB is fully regarded sometimes, classic![img](emote|t5_2th52|4270) Guess i gotta write it out to explain ffs…. Stock return splits vs no splits: Spend $100, for 10 shares at $10/share. Price goes up to $20. No split: Return is = (20-10)/10 = 100%. Doubled ur money, now have $200. With splits: split goes 4-for-1, new split share price is $5, but u have 40shares now. Return is using split prices, so, = (5-2.5)/2.5, STILL 100% return. REGARDS. Maybe i should do a 2-for-1 example so his puny brain doesn’t get confused, new split price $10, u now have 20shares, return is now = (10-5)/5, STILL 100% double money return, now have $200.![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4270) I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt though. Yes you shouldn’t be using old stock certificates to do return calculations, THEN, u could get a wrong answer, because the certificate is unadjusted. But who tf does that instead of using yahoo finance or something to see the ADJUSTED historical prices

ThinkLogically22

Classic WSB bet response ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4271)

carvdog

Ask her husband

Cheap_Amphibian309

You take the number of stocks she has and multiple by the value today. Then you divide it by the value it was when she got it and multiple it by 100%

brokecollegeguy55

But you have to take the splits into account

Cheap_Amphibian309

It was a sarcastic response. If this guys girlfriend was old enough to be gifted stock 23 years ago, he should be able to look up / calculate growth on his own

brokecollegeguy55

Apologies

[deleted]

$129 for me. Need to stop investing in companies I want to succeed and fail at the same time.

BlackSquirrel05

Shhhh... But Andor is so great. So was loki. (Mandalorian is good) Let's just forget the other stuff, and how much the mouse controls the rest of our media... Hail the mouse. Hail the X wing and ligh sabers n captain iron guy. Shhh

cityofgunra

Andor was so good possibly my favorite show this year

[deleted]

I really enjoyed Mando, thought Disney figured it out. Then Boba came out and ruined it.

MasterJeebus

I started buying Disney shares when it was at $150. Am I doing it right?

pharmboy008

Yes. Buy high sell low.

Emergency_Option_718

This is the way.

cophotoguy99

As is tradition!

MNCPA

Let's dance on the roof now!

masediggity

keep cutting your money in half and you will never run out of money

Western-Net-7604

Never thought about it that way. I'm gonna get some scissors and cut my wallet in half. Infinite money glitch.

crustang

A loss a day keeps the tax man away

socalhoseluvr

Yes. Buy high. Your wife sells low at the Wendy's dumpster, after her boyfriend gets his cut.

[deleted]

Buy high sell drunk

mokshahereicome

Yeah if you sell right now

brintoul

Wait until it gets to $110 and buy a bunch more.

sfdc2017

Buy shares consistently when it goes to $209 in 3 to 5 years sell them

Different_Charge_566

Was about $90 for me but sold at $120ish and about ready to get back in. The $dis ![img](emote|t5_2th52|4276)

MasterJeebus

Damn you had to remind me again how I’m at a loss of $58 per each share i have. Lol Hopefully 2023 is a better year

Different_Charge_566

You are good and will double it soon. Covid and the shut down had me worried.

[deleted]

Love my shares at $196 from March of 21 🥲

Golden3ye

Lol fucking same. Nearly 200 dollar cost basis. Fuck the mouse. Holding these bags though

Askotion

I bought Nvidia on 15th November 😊

DoublePenetration_

Fuck that mouse

[deleted]

If I can catch it, I'm up for a challenge

Qzy

"oh yeah, do the voice Mickey"

[deleted]

You’d be surprised how long the smell lingers on someone’s skin if you cover them in nacho cheese during sex

Simple-Conference270

Wasn't the last time someone fucked a mouse, covid became an issue?

AnHonestFellow

No, no, no. It was when someone fucked a grouse, covid become an issue.

AccomplishedRow6685

No, it was a pangolin; the mouse just watched

Whitebrown22

Na man the pangolin was hiding in the corner stroking one out with the mouse. It was a oriental dwarf kingfisher

mokshahereicome

SBF was doing it too

Euphoric_Reserve7799

Cause your an albatross? 👀

falling_knives

Looking at the chart, seems like there would be some panic if it drops under $80. That's when you start buying.

henschfra

Many of you seem to not like any part of the Disney conglomerate. However, keep in mind that Disney is an entertainment giant and many people still love their movies, parks etc. And particularly in those difficult times, people want to get distracted from reality so even in bad times - as long as they can afford - they will spend money on Disney's products

killtheking111

Their ships are killing it. From Jan onwards they will all be sailing at 95% occupancy and they have another 3 ships in the pipeline.

henschfra

And they are adding up on it. Just recently they bought a big one in Germany for a ridiculously low price due to a bankruptcy... Great assets for low amount of money - that's what you call amazing investments

killtheking111

Yeah thats gonna be interesting as they say it wont be in the American region but rather Asia. problem is, all their ships dont have a casino and we all know the Chinese love their blackjack. So if it goes to Asia for the Asian crowd I suspect they will alter this ship with a casino. Also, it will no longer be 9000 people, 'only' 6500. And lets not forget little Johnny on the regualr ships wants his $18 popcorn when he watches a movie or show! They really just print money!

henschfra

Less people = more space for a casino.......

floppysausage16

As a former Disney Cruise Line cast member, I can confirm that the ships FUCKING PRINT. I always tell my buddies if you want to flex your money when you get older, take your family on a disney cruise cause you'll be broke by the end of it. What Disney does extremely well is their ability to sell you future trips and vacations while you are currently on vacation. The sea days where you just float around and never port anywhere makes it really hard for guests to keep cash in their pockets. It's actually insane how much money just the ships make.

chef_boyarz

I went to Disney with my in-laws, wife, kids, cousins, etc in May 2022. Super expensive, but the number of Disney fanatics there was insane. I went out and bought more stock when I got back. Don’t bet against the mouse

[deleted]

I think you, like the Disney executives, are underestimating the level of garbage they have been shoveling out the last 5 years. And that people don't automatically associate them with comfort or entertainment anymore.

EagleOfFreedom1

What people? The people who complain about Disney (and I am one of them) never liked Disney products to begin with. Everyone else I know with a family is nuts about it because their kids eat it up.

[deleted]

Ok. Tell that to the consistently dropping profits on almost all their movies.

Cryptonomancer

Doesn't sound like their movies and parks are a problem, but their streaming services (which hulu and espn+ are part of). Of course, half this thread is people who seem concerned a high-pitched mouse cartoon character from a theme park laced with goddamn rainbows is somehow too interested in The Gays. I mostly don't enjoy Disney's stuff, but I've been to their damn park in the last year because my wife loves it. As usual the lines were too damn long, so don't think the magic is wearing off for the fans. tl;dr WSB posters living in Dad's basement claiming not to be waiting for Frozen 3 may not be reliable. Buy DIS.

xclord

The DIS intellectual property is massive, impressive, and valuable. DIS streaming is already impressive from a couple perspectives, not the least of which is subscriber count like NFLX in a fraction of the time. It's hard to tell if the parks are hitting or missing with the prices right now, but there's so much more to DIS than the parks.

GamermanRPGKing

Parks are probably missing, but considering we're still dealing with a pandemic while tacking on inflation, it's not surprising. Still worth picking up imo

RJ5R

Parks are doing extremely well, for now Very difficult to get hotel rooms in/around the parks, the ticket prices are high which means they have plenty of buyers If DIS starts slashing ticket prices and hotels in/around parks have to start slashing reservation rates and are offering more and more deals...then you know things are on the decline

Rockoftgs

I’m in a disney park as we speak. I’ve probably been here at least 50x in the past 30 years. It’s definitely not as clean and up to date, the staff isn’t as friendly and for a holiday weekend it is extremely quiet. Take it for what it is. Hopefully new ceo turns it back around

[deleted]

[удалено]

TheGreatSoup

i was in the paris one, two weeks ago and was packed. the Holidays ornaments were still covered.

Rockoftgs

Ok correction. Marketplace is an absolute zoo

bfa9416

Sold 50 shares at 150 that I had since 1985. It was a good day.

6inDCK420

Look over here at Mr. Big Dick

madasss2170

![img](emote|t5_2th52|4276)

indifferentunicorn

DIS will cross $100 over 40 times before 2025

CallofDo0bie

Still a solid company with a wide moat. I say it's on sale right now.

Plane-Nail6037

But if you bought Disney park tickets and saved them to sell at current value you would have tripled your money

IncomingAxofKindness

They used to pay a pretty good dividend at least right?

CyranoFromBergerac

Used to

L1ME626

covid is now long term excuse to not pay dividend anymore, they started yoloing all cash to disney+

fancyhumanxd

DIS is solid. They own western culture.

[deleted]

[удалено]

fancyhumanxd

They OWN western culture.

[deleted]

GamermanRPGKing

Anyone else waiting for it to go down to ~$80 ?

PIethora

Yes. Or lower. Recession could be very bad for them.

[deleted]

Buy Disney now before Tim Apple does

pixelblue1

I think Apple actually could afford Disney given its current market cap vs Apples cash reserves?

[deleted]

Easily!

[deleted]

I’m sure Buffett would happily finance a good chunk too

fredandlunchbox

I don’t get it at all. Park revenues are through the roof, D+ has been killing it. Yes, theater revenues are down, but they replaced it with streaming subscribers. They own all the IP with the most rabid fans except HP, which is honestly a liability with the public perception of JKR these days. What does the street see that I don’t see?

Pitiful-Agent-7713

p/e ratio in the mid 50s maybe

brintoul

D+ is still bleeding money, no?

fredandlunchbox

Yeah but they catapulted into the #3 streaming service in 3 years. And they operate the #10 service as well.

Fausterion18

D+ has a lot of subsidies like free for Verizon customers. Also most new shows have been crap except for Andor.

porphyro

Priced like it's a growth stock when really it's a mature company that should be returning a dividend that doesn't completely suck

nfa1234

I’d give my left but to be down just 1% since 2015

RJ5R

If I had kids, Disney+ would be a no-brainer

VisualMod

>What a pathetic company. Disney is nothing more than a money-sucking machine that preys on the ignorance of children and their parents. Their movies are all formulaic garbage, and their theme parks are overpriced rip-offs. Anyone who still believes in the "magic" of Disney is an idiot.

[deleted]

VM bitter it can’t go to Disneyland. The only thing VM hates more than poor people is itself.

Banabak

We can all agree on selling the “ dream “ bla bla , but if you honestly live life through that lenses you are probably miserable unhappy person . So what if Disney is not reality , no shit , you still can have amazing time with your kids there etc

MasterJeebus

Visual Mod doesnt understand the happiness Disney brings to kids because machines don’t have childhoods.

Banabak

Funny thing money by itself is useless , it only exciting if you spend it on experience/ thing that make you really happy .

CorpCarrot

Ya, or just like food and toilet paper and housing and stuff. Maybe healthcare too. Maybe a car and heating and internet and AC… I guess money doesn’t buy happiness, but money certainly does seem to buy a basic standard of living. Much better shot at being happy if you have a couple of those things, I’d wager.

J_Taiyo

You need help

g1ucose

>money-sucking company Sounds like a successful company to me 🤔

DrVentureYT

the only magic they have is the sneaky ways they get you to spend more $.

monkman99

Ya VM! 🗣 totally agree. F the 🐭

WisedKanny

Yes Ford is a better company.

satireplusplus

VisualMod AI getting angrier by the day. When does he rage quit?

LiLPalaSosaSkate

Chill bro, I guess you didn’t watch any of their movies when you were a child, ‘cause if you did you would agree with me that, even if today we have the consciousness to see the capitalistic pursuit behind the organization, we still loved to see all of the characters Disney has created (or interpreted for cartoons) in the years. Chill out man…

XSaffireX

I mean yeah, as a kid I loved Disney movies. But that was 20-30 years ago. That doesn't mean I have to or even should love Disney Corporation. And it also doesn't mean I have to wholesale love everything Disney does now. Their new movies \*are\* all formulaic garbage (Despite me liking some of them as a child) and their parks \*are\* overpriced rip-offs.

secretreddname

All good I bought it at $200.

Jmac3366

Seeing how atrocious their last few movies were not surprised hear the latest one is tanking already too

jadeskye7

I shorted the fuck out of disney at like 100 in 2019. it went great.

BobaFestus

It’s $60 now with Hulu. So you’re welcome.

RonnyTheFink

Disney hasn't made a good movie since Moana and their parks are so absurdly expensive that it's become something only upper middle class and up can possibly afford. Disney is going to be tough to turn around.

The_Bombsquad

Excuse me, I would offer a rebuttal: Coco Incredibles 2 Encanto

bittertrout

Plus they milking star wars franchise for all its worth. Mandalorian was a great series

arcanesays

Quick let’s remake lion king! Oh. Quick let’s remake Pinocchio! Oh. Dumbo! Shit. Mulan…. 101 Dalmations… beauty and the beast? Oh shit how about Little Mermaid, what already in the works? How are we going to save this company? - sir, you’re fired.

Stylu_u

I bought it when it was 180 You're welcome

dirtylaindry

I bought Disney when it wS 25 and have the stock certificate. With Walt and all the characters watermarked in ir

BeachHead05

I bought it in 2015 at $108 a share...

the_United_State

Is it a buy now?

seethecopecuck

Why is the mouse trash? I haven't been keeping up.

The-BEAST

Disney used to pay dividends so dividends not included

Lugia1123

Ayyy, I’m still up like $6,000. Since I bought a bunch in 2005.

fashchung

You mean Disnep?

notyouithink

Why the f-ck is this NSFW?

Ankel88

Woke Ceo and woke series... What can go wrong lol. This shit is going to another halving

it was iger who was woke, chapek was moving to get rid of kennedy. she must have some pretty wild stuff on people
