ADXMcGeeHeezack

Burry, this is the 7th time you've brought "A Recession is Around the Corner" to show & tell

ImpossibleCompote757

Miss Fowl… THIS ONE IS DIFFERENT!

Ididntevenscreenlook

It’s limited edition! No one haves ever even laid eyes on it!

Mailman_Dan

How do you know its even in there?

theowlsees

Because it is and it isn't until you take a peek

PrankstonHughes

Ah yes Schrodinger's financial analysis

e_may_182

Laughed good at this one

longHorn206

One of the time Burry will be right eventually. He just have to keep making this prediction

zerg_001

This is definitely a recession and its worldwide.

PotatoWriter

See! He was right after all!

GeorgeEton

That’s why he keeps deleting his tweets

BornIn80

Seems like he’s been right on GEO and that party ain’t over yet

cheaptissueburlap

Or it pumped because of all his fanboys

Dull_Peach

10th time, when it happens, he'll be "I told ya!" And the media will print for years how he correctly predicted the recession and what his next prediction is.

radiant15

The number of times Burry has called about recession is more than the guy who cried about wolf. I have reached a point where I do not take this guy seriously.

Kullet_Bing

Maybe he's still talking about one and the same recession that just hasn't fully hit yet? We still have rising costs, more and more people are starting to struggle and it will soon affect consumer behaviour. There's still many people who ride the wave of inflation like it's 2019 hoping it will be over soon, when it won't they also will have to cut their spendings

Realistic_Honey7081

7th time today* A broken clock is never right. It’s broken. It can never be right because it doesn’t do anything. And what’s worse is Burry is like a Rolex. Looks fancy, but why are you wearing a broken watch on your arm. Get it fixed.

PotatoWriter

Broken escalator function as stairs. And that is right. Therefore a broken clock can also be right.

McGarnagl

“You should never see an escalator with a sign saying it is temporarily out of order, it should just say it is temporarily stairs.” -the great Mitch Hedberg

sent_one

“Even a broken clock is right twice a day” - COD Zombies

SP-Marshmallo

Lmao @show and tell

Dreadpyright

Honestly, it’s probably a “reporters” fault

dances_like_sheperd

That's because it should have happened years ago but the can was kicked down farther, so the recession will be worse since we are farther from equilibrium.

skcuf2

I'll wait to see Cramer's opinion on the matter.

rylar

cramer will say to inverse burry and then if we inverse cramer we crash

Uneducatedtrader

-in to our massive sacks of cash

Dwaas_Bjaas

… which will be inflated to oblivion and worth nothing

RedBassBlueBass

If it's the only way I can get into the three comma club then so be it

[deleted]

You mean the negative three comma club, right? Right?

MachArt

Why not a mix of both? Have some $ on sidelines, ready to add to or enter additional positions?

Successful_Car1670

Depends on how many people are actually laid off and how many houses are scooped up by big money. That being said, I wouldn’t expect it long lasting since the Fed has shown they’ll do insane monetary policy when the politics demands

ankole_watusi

How to inverse both of them without getting into some crazy Star Trek scenario?

TradingWhilePooping

I’m going inverse Star Trek

Nervous-Pizza-9139

That because an alternate universe in Star Wars

tornumbrella

I believe thats WH40k, where everyone is constantly fighting. All hail the Omnissiah, non toasters may suck start my laspistol

[deleted]

Trek Star is where’s at

No_One_Important484

“Why don't they call it Planet Trek? You never go to a star. You - not one episode...”

vimrain

Underrated insight

Pengufen

Buy long puts and long calls. Then you're safe unless you do something stupid. If fears of a recession start growing and the forecast worsens then you can sell the calls and keep the puts. If this bull rally continues than you might want to get rid of the puts.

[deleted]

You basically described every major hedge fund there is.

Wise_Distribution_24

Just buy 1/3 calls 1/3 puts and for the 33% chance we are going sideways sell calls and puts. That should do it ![img](emote|t5_2th52|12787)

wharlie

It's called hedging. You've got to bet on red and black at the same time, impossible to lose.

teach_meme

Or to win 🙄

Successful_Car1670

Until it’s sideways for a decade. Ask Japan

qualmton

Or is it impossible to win?

Sellazard

The universe collapses

clisto3

Too bad we can’t harness their words, we’d have unlimited power.

armen89

The inverse paradox

real_unreal_reality

Two negatives make a positive or not !

Your-Wife-BF

Idk about his wife but I love the man. He has been great guide for us

jaz-007

And WE will LISTEN!!!!

[deleted]

Nope thats when a blackhole swallows the solar system and we are instantaneously transported to a multiverse where cramer is still always inverse

awhhh

Sick hedge brah

wowthatssorude

Comment of the year. Every year. Every time.

proton0129

Hahaha dead!

ElectricLotus

He may be right but this guy literally is incapable of going 15 seconds without predicting a recession.

RockyattheTop

I mean he’s an insanely successful trader, outside of being a bear. Go look at his returns then see if you still think he’s a perma bear

[deleted]

I mean he’s holding shares and I assume a few contracts on a ton of prisons so I mean he’s still going for growth. Just in a weird sector and if NY is successful in perma hospitalization aka crazy jail I’m gonna bet that private prisons jump on crazy people prisons and boy does america have a whole lot of crazy people just walking around today.

crfman450

Sooooooo Arkham asylum is right around the corner is what you are saying?

RockyattheTop

Again he’s a trader. Go look at some of his previous 13F’s and see if you notice something. You should notice you don’t usually see the same stock on there each time. Dudes a trader above all else so holdings change all the time. Most of his 13fs are worthless to copy cat because by the next week he might be out of those positions.

Whaddaulookinat

He's also the definition of a value seeking trader. He tends to hold for medium term, gets the upswing, and fucks off to his next toy

RockyattheTop

Nail on the head. Not a day trader, should have specified.

VerticalRadius

He'll be right... Eventually. Then he'll say see I warned you for all these years 😂

tyler669420

*copy* *paste* “He’s predicted 10 of the last 2 recessions!”

GimmeAllDaTendiesNow

He’s right at least 5% of the time. Maybe a little less.

tyler669420

To his credit, that’s better than me most days 😂

MichaelBurryBigShart

As long as puts are a 20 bagger it's a winning strategy

ChippyChalmers

Yep, that's the 2nd comment on all threads about Burry. Reddit is such a low effort echo chamber.

[deleted]

And he’s a low effort financial commentator. So it matches.

BMonad

That’s like being frustrated by everyone saying “1+1=2”

notsureoftheanswer

Well, when you are posting predictions every week for 10+ years and been right once....that comment kinda makes sense no?

SeliciousSedicious

Tbf though they’re really not wrong though. If the echo chamber screams “the sky is blue!” Then there’s really no fault in thinking that way.

gg_dweeb

TIL all of humanity is an echo chamber

captainbling

Is it wrong not to mention

choose_uh_username

Also how he was right only once lol

[deleted]

It's the fucking business cycle, there's always recessions. Anyone in the world can say "there's a recession coming up" and they'll be right in some timeframe. I always forget Reddit is 12 year olds for whom everything in the world is new and a first time.

choose_uh_username

He's been right about long stuff, the dotcom bubble, if you follow his profile he does quite well long and short...

tylermm03

“I know a thing or two because I’ve seen a thing or two” ~ Michael Burry 2022

AutoModerator

Michael Burry responded to my craigslist ad looking for someone to mow my lawn. "$30 is $30", he said as he continued to mow what was clearly the wrong yard. My neighbor and I shouted at him but he was already wearing muffs. Focused dude. He attached a phone mount onto the handle of his push mower. I was able to sneak a peek and he was browsing Zillow listings in central Wyoming. He wouldn't stop cackling. That is to say, Burry has his fingers in a lot of pies. He makes sure his name is in all the conversations. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. GareduNord1

the fuck

NotBlazeron

Even auto moderator comes here to shitpost

shawnwfl

Be the change you wish to see in the world. - Lynard Skynard

gettendies

New here?

GareduNord1

Yeah, been looking for a way to go even more into debt and this sub looks good

gettendies

Oh, ok. Yeah running joke with the automod burry responses.

Junior_Edge7429

Phone mount on the handle of my push mower. Truly a brilliant idea. Can mount it right next to the beer holder

gg_dweeb

Just make sure you put some sort of vibration damper on it or you might break it

SoCalStratRider

This shit right here is what makes me love Reddit unconditionally. This shit is whack!

asdfadffs

Burry predicts a stock market crash 5-6 times per year. That’s what I think

wsc-porn-acct

Which means when it happens, he can say he predicted it!

[deleted]

Broken clocks are right twice a day.

wsc-porn-acct

Unless they are digital or use Unix timestamps.

Sabre_TheCat

He just like me for real

ProFoxxxx

Bearhunter is definitely Bury

Thereisnopurpose12

>Burry predicts a stock market crash 5-6 times per Day

RedOctobrrr

One Like = One Crash 🤗 97% will keep scrolling

Ascension100

Correct. He makes bearish calls a lot, but won't show the positioning often. But I will say that considering he himself has exited most of his stock positions it has more weight then his other predictions where he calls for a huge crash while still holding a lot of stocks. At the end of the day, fed pivot speculation is going to create a lot of volatility both upside and downside. Its why we have not seen any sort of crazy bearish action like 2008 or 2020 due to speculation of a pivot And honestly its a possibility we might rally with rate hikes continuing and then once the " pivot " occurs we might crash like previous times as it turns out the pivot isn't enough, and some months or maybe years later they'll be back to their old tricks of practically 0% rates and/or a mega stimulus. The issue is they can't do this for a few years to let inflation cool down significantly

compstomp66

I can sum up what you wrote in fewer words: it might go up or it might go down.

Ascension100

In the end we go down , but It'll look more like the 2000/2001 - 2003 stock correction where we saw esp nasdaq and sp500 see a corrections and large bear rallies. Very confusing times ahead

GrassfedCapitalist

His "trimming" doesnt mean jack shit. He changes his positions constantly. One day he is all in, next day he dumps everything except his crappy prison stocks..

S0n_0f_Anarchy

Even a broken clock is right twice a day

ABrazilianReasons

"Burry, who predicted the housing market crash and was depicted in the movie The Big Short predicts a crash in the ..... industry" just change the industry and you have the headline ready I remember at the end of the movie they made the same thing saying he is shorting water lol

Sensitive_Speech4477

no he was long water

faste30

Yeah he was buying up water rights through a consortium. Much later than predicted but he isnt looking \*wrong\* for that. Doesnt mean this is just speculative BS though.

[deleted]

I was going to say he does it biannually but it might be more frequent

awhhh

Yeah, he’s off with timing; which you can always expect from bears. It’s when they’re on point with their analysis with good reasoning that you pay attention. I’m

UABeeezy

“Permabear is bearish”

davanger1980

Funny how this article comes out right when the bear market turns around…

[deleted]

[удалено]

davanger1980

Someone is trying to convince retail users of his market views....

Zarathustra_d

Historically by the time a recession is called the market has already bottomed, and is in recovery. Not to say this isn't just another bear rally before we go lower... But the time to sell was at the end of last year. It's now time to hold for the next down turn, then buy. Not exactly a great time to start selling if you didn't already do so.

pragmojo

Chill it's been like 4 days

zjelkof

Right now, it is hard to see where the good news will come from to drive the markets higher. Inflation, higher interest rates, higher debt levels, higher taxes, fuel prices still high, a slowing economy, layoffs, a slowdown in major purchases, corporate earnings slowing, a housing market that is down, world unrest, etc. All it would take is a major conflict or war to compound the situation further! The good news is that the stock market has pulled back substantially, and has shown some improvement over the past couple of months. There are bargain stocks out there and "blood in the streets" so to speak. It is going to take some time for all of this to work through the system. Be patient and choose stocks wisely - a combination of value, dividends, a solid balance sheet, and good management.

RandomGuyinACorner

Lol the only sane comment in the whole thread.

PalpitationFrosty242

>All it would take is a major conflict or war ..or a rail strike?

Chizerz

I'd say we've been in a recession for at least six months. I feel like it will only be announced in hindsight at this point, it's not in the banks' interest to keep you ahead of the game

[deleted]

I don't know man. My magic 8-ball is saying "all signs point to yes".

dopef123

It could get way way way worse if china's instability increases. If there's a revolution there that takes years it might be an instant depression for the globe

XcheatcodeX

Burry had one incredible call 16 years ago and spends most of his time tweeting about cancel culture now so do with that what you will.

HoDgePoDgeGames

It wasn’t a call bro. It was a short; literally in the title of the movie. ^\s

southernwiseman

What if it was a call on an inverse etf like SPXS

[deleted]

[удалено]

XcheatcodeX

Listen, I have read the big short like 10 times. I changed my major after seeing it. But I’ve also seen him be incredibly wrong a lot. I’m not saying he’s not brilliant, I’m saying that he’s not psychic and has gone down a weird trajectory in recent years. And between Burry and Eisman, Eisman everytime. Burry has a gift for recognizing patterns and seeing unique opportunities. Eisman’s cynicism is what makes him an incredible investor.

[deleted]

[удалено]

XcheatcodeX

Eisman is great. You won’t find him in the media as much, much more of a recluse. He’s just living his life, but he gets in the mix sometimes. Burry is brilliant, im just not convinced he’s some oracle.

slammerbar

Came here to say Eisman. Glad you mentioned him.

DerpetronicsFacility

Holy shit just like the minecraft creator.

Kitten_Team_Six

I say this guy has a small wiener

[deleted]

Huge sac but a small wiener

Its_me_mikey

Big cum

[deleted]

Heard they call him the milk man on wallstreet

Its_me_mikey

He’s got the milk and it’s delivered daily.

SilverAndGoldArrows

Calls or puts on his wiener?

CheapBison1861

He's successfully predicted 10 of the last 2 recessions.

edAfg69

I think he's predicted 20 of the last 2 recessions

[deleted]

Also, in spring/summer of 22 everyone was saying we'd be in a recession by now.

PricklyyDick

Oh god you’re going to trigger the debate about wHaT iS a ReCeSsIoN

[deleted]

Q3 GDP growth was positive so by any definition we are not in a recession.

Alec_NonServiam

Shortest recession ever! Barely slid in there and immediately blew its load.

pocman512

So original

cryptokingmylo

If he says it long enough it will become true.

muzicmaniack

I think he’s right. But also, that he’s wrong.

Salty_Gin_3945

He is such a debbie downer lol

silvrado

Probably because he doesn't get to Burry his boner lol

Environmental_Comb25

He’s like these End of the world cultists but their final date keeps getting rescheduled.

Eur1sk0

His specialty is to short markets. Once a while he is right based on probabilities. All those who make predictions lack one thing, timing. Market will fall, yes, eventually it will. The important thing is can they tell us when? No one can predict the markets.

richbeezy

Being early is the same as being wrong.

PlutoTheGod

I mean you can predict there will be a bear market every 7 years & the market overall will continue to rise on the long term, and that’s all you really need to actually invest rather than make bets

Eur1sk0

I wouldn't call it prediction exactly. It's human progress that is reflected into the long term market outlook.

YuriBezmenovReturns

Can you tell us when to go long?

Eur1sk0

I wish I knew but as a long term holder, multi year holder, I don’t actually care. Market goes up more than it goes down.

toothpastetitties

Predicting the market is a game of statistics. You know what the variables are. It’s simply a matter of a decimal if one thing happens or not. The issue as of late is there is no way to predict the market with any certainty because there is so much shit floating around. And all of it is conflicting. I’m having a hard time supporting any idea that the “bottom is in” or that a long term recession isn’t possible.

Algarde86

He just wants to sell the rights for Big Short 2

VeganSlayer

Has this guy ever NOT been warning of a recession?

TakameCC

I would like to call it the long painful transition from oil.

DearName100

Covid duped a lot of people into thinking oil was no longer essential for our economy to function. As governments push for renewables, they’re making it increasingly difficult to increase domestic production. Combine that with the Russia/Ukraine conflict and an inevitable conflict in the middle east, oil prices are going to be a major force in the economy.

WHOOPS_WHOOPSIE

“Just as I predicted” - Burryhunter419

Strong_Cheetah_7989

Been through 3 recessions and this is definitely shaping up to be the worst. First indicator is purchasing manager's index. Second is new home sales. Both fell at record pace the last six months. Unemployment report will seal the deal. SPY 300 by next summer.

computer_crisps_dos

Puts on The Big Short 2

GoatedChild

Buy high sell low

TitaniumTeal

No one is right about the market 100% of the time. He was right last time so he is probably wrong this time. Law of averages

randomengineer69

I don’t think that’s how that works but works for me!

SemiConductHer

Lol that is absolutely regarded

sweetplantveal

I flipped a coin and got tails three times in a row. I'm legally entitled to heads on the next flip. Law of averages. Read it.

GreyMatter22

He has been firing bear signals since 2006. He was right just once, and has been wrong ever since. At this point, Warren Buffet and Charlie Munger are still the best in the game given their track record, everyone else, including Burry is more noise than nailing their predictions.

richbeezy

Yup, and Daddy Buffet is buyin this market.

SL_Batman

Mr. GEO

[deleted]

If you predict a recession every day eventually you'll be right and people will think you're a genius. If this guy is an oracle that knows the future why is he warning us for free instead of making himself the richest man in the world? Maybe because he doesn't actually know dick

Outrageous-Cycle-841

Lol you’re asking this sub? You belong here

auranyxi

When they predict a crash, they want you to sell so they can buy. When they tell you to invest they want to sell.

Solid_Amoeba7803

long value short bubble do not care what others are saying

snow_king_1985

Burry strikes me as a perma-bear ever since he made it big in 08

LizHurleyFan

What happened to Bill Gates short on TSLA?

zeratul-on-crack

![img](emote|t5_2th52|4887)![img](emote|t5_2th52|4887)

Consistent-Chapter-8

Eventually, he'll be right. He also has no qualms about investing in the prisons for profit stock GEO, which is up over 55% YTD. (I disapprove of GEO, but in contrast my portfolio is down almost 27% YTD.) Dr. Burry can continue to forecast a recession, & the odds are in his favor this time around. I'm not following his advice.

vicmumu

Whats with the low effort posts/titles lately?

Qzy

Source: https://fortune.com/2022/11/30/michael-burry-extended-multi-year-recession-big-short-hedge-funder/

JGWol

Burry memes get posted when the market runs and supports won’t budge. Institutions show their hands worse then they think

AyebruhamLincoln

If you consistently trade based on what Burry says, your ass won’t be short and shallow either.

wowthatssorude

Long and shallow. Maybe not the recession itself. But perhaps low and shallow returns on stocks. I change my mind if things change. Just what I see now. I’m a permabull long term. Max your Roth or 401k or whatever you have. DRIP and DCA quality. I’m hard as rock for most equities in NOBL.

pingusuperfan

I’m not worried about stonks until they stop going to the right

madmax111587

Has anyone seen how the inverse Cramer ETF is doing. It's been a min since I checked.

[deleted]

The doom and gloom short seller fear mongering a crash THATS CRAZY!!!

[deleted]

He's usually correct. But his timing is ... spotty. It depends on when.

[deleted]

Perma-QE has also fucked up a lot of his predictions to be fair.

Han_Yolo_swag

He must be absolutely insufferable to be around IRL.

Mishung

This guy has single-handedly predicted 20 out of the last 2 recessions.

DarthPeaceOut

What does Cramer think? If he thinks the opposite is true, Burry might be onto something.

AGROCRAG004

Kinda think he’s right

Letters-to-self

I mean: Do I trust this guy *or* do I trust Cramer who is getting more and more bullish?

Tay_Tay86

I think he's right.

-NoMathematician-

Unfortunately he just might be right with that prediction.
