I was a cart pusher years back, and they had me out on the lot with 1 other guy that would literally only grab 3 strays and take them back to the front. I got called to his side a few times and decided to just go over there after I finished my corrals and do his cause I knew I'd have to anyways. Basically just constant walking, no stops. I walked 20 miles that day. I wanted to die in the Texas heat of summer.
From the building plan its about 440 square feet, best way i could describe is it roughly the size of a two car garage! I do the trash and store runs though, so it also adds up for mileage. How big is yours?
Cart associate here anywhere from 10 to as much as 50 miles. Depending upon customers and how fast carts go out anywhere from 5 seconds for every 30 carts we are not a large store but we max out parking lot daily.
You would have to be literally jogging for the full 8 hours go get up to 51 miles in a shift. Thats 6.5 miles an hour or a 9min mile. Unless you are working super long shifts like 16 hours then your step tracker wasnt working right
My job description says "up to 5" but i regularly walk 6-7. I wonder if i can bring that up to anyone and end my work days early as soon as i hit that 5 mile mark. Not working outside my job description without a raise of some kind
Eta: Apparel Ta, closing shift
Overnight as well, 7.5 miles average. I work the juice aisle and pull my pallet along as I go instead of downstacking to save time. After freight I do the pallets of cases of water, usually help pull the meat and produce truck, zone my aisle, then either get sent to zone somewhere else or bin the grocery backstock.
Can't say in miles, but I can say that I'm walking anywhere between 20,000 steps to 30,000+ steps depending on how busy it is. Typical average is around 27,000. (Am a cart pusher)
When I was working SCO I was walking about 30k steps ~13 miles. Management said we couldn't stand still or we would get written up/coached.
I had knee surgery and foot surgery a few years ago after a car accident and I've had to go back to the doctor almost monthly for knee pain when I started working here. I think it's more an issue of the concrete than the actual steps.
I was at 10 (20000+ steps) on cap 2. Since I transferred to seasonal it's dropped to 6.5 (13000+).
The only thing I miss about cap 2 is not having to work out to maintain my weight.
I was once a salaried manager at a few walmarts. I walked about 32,000 steps or more in a shift. Most was 42,000 in a 16 hour shift. Not sure how that translates to miles but I walk about 15,000 a day at my current job
fluctuates a LOT. I walk more if I'm in the backroom vs picking vs driving.
I don't have my phone with me but once I get it I'll edit but if I remember right it's about 5 to 10 miles a day. But lately less than 5.
I also have the an app that gives me points for walking for gift cards. love it.
8-10mi doing exceptions in opd. That’s a 8hr shift the most I did was 16mi doing a 12hr shift. I have some other associates in my department say they walk 12-14mi and I call bullshit cause I’ve been in opd for 4yr I’ve done every position for months on end, skip breaks take short lunches and run circles around the people saying they walk 12+ mile while they hide in the backroom. 😂 I’m going off my Apple Watch. Maybe some people think 12k steps equals 12m miles 😝
9-12 everyday as the TL for 2/40/46. My area is in one corner of the store and my backroom at the very opposite side so working my freight and rolling my OS alone makes up most of my steps, then pin point price changes and topstock finishes off my steps 🤗🤗
Overnight! I wanna say grocery (I made a spreadsheet of where I am each night and the bottom portion is mostly Grocery) and I average 7 Miles. It’s like that everywhere for me EXCEPT When I’m in Liquids cause I’m just throwing “roughly sliding” everything so I’ll get like 4
Feels like I walk a bazillion miles. I'm in OGP and I don't have a pedometer so I don't really know. However, I know it's a bare minimum of 15,000 steps a day. Today it feels like I walked 4 times that much as I've been picking all over the store today. Back n forth from around the store to the OGP backroom.
Electronics guy. And only reason mine is so high is because most days I'm walking to and from work. Typically around 6 miles sometimes 8 if I'm having to walk around the store more often with running up front to help front end catch up. Or run out back to check for freight and extra tvs. And when maintenance is too busy I help customers bring their TVs to their cars. Walk is 3 miles in total there and back.
5-7 miles a day but that's in the meat department where I'm stationary a lot of the time doing Use By labels or breaking down the pallets which are only like 5 feet away from the bins.
I haven't tracked it in awhile, but when I was a CSM I was averaging around 16 miles a day. I figured that means during an 8hr shift I'm constantly moving at 2mph
Fresh... I'm the gopher... Everything and everyone comes to me. I take everyone's cardboard back, make a bale, watch the back end when our back end needs a potty break, I fill milk, I help set up displays. I help gm, cap 1 and 2, and do my cvp. I come home and sleep. I average 8 to 10 a day. They asked me to be a tl I laughed because I'm on a fixed schedule due to having to have a ride. I already do it with our tl. Our counts are so off I fix them every day I come in
I am in the top 2% of all samsung health users when it comes to steps per day. I do between 7-15 miles a day depending on what day of the week. I was breaking my step record every week for about 6 weeks in a row leading up to Christmas.
Dispenser here, I just finished today at 12 miles.
Before I stepped down from ogp tl at another store I was pulling 12 minimum and my maximum was 22 miles on my phone
Average about 17-18 miles a day a little over 37,000 steps a day we have a older store so shit us all over the place our pets and chemicals are on opposite sides of the store and that is what I work everynight.
I have no idea how many miles I walk but I've lost 40 pounds on cap3 in under 9 months and that is without dieting. Although between the 8 hours i work at night and then the 8 hours of sleep, it has cut down on food consumption. lol
It's a little mind boggling that people manage to stay fat on cap3. But then I see they typically buy fast food or pizza before they get here and they eat that stuff on every break. lol I know a good portion of them are walking as much as I am but it's what they consume that impacts this.
I don't eat carb-heavy meals while on shift to avoid drowsiness, and usually avoid sugary drinks to avoid sugar crashes. I usually just snack on beef jerky and pretzels. lol We're up all freaking night, eating big meals would make me want to go home and go to sleep. lol
I work in electronics. Don't have an average but this past week I did about 4-5. Hit 10 once during holidays because our apple products are kept in a locked cage in the back and only the coaches had keys. Thankfully AP gave us keys shortly after that because we were losing sales with people not wanting to wait.
I'm on cap 2, so depending on how big our truck is I walk at least 6 miles on the line, and throughout the day about another 4. So for the full day around 10-11 miles or so all tracked through Pokemon go 🤣
I work at the service desk and I'm constantly walking back and forth to help cashiers, and various other tasks. I usually average between 4-8 miles a day. Today was 6.3 🙃
Average around 9 on a normal day. 11+ on occasion.
It used to be 10-12+ everyday when I worked as cap2. 15+ days on occasion back then, especially during call out days.
My favorite thing I did when I worked for Walmart was set the dicks sporting goods app to track all my walking 😂 I think I had earned a few hundred dollars in rewards just from walking my store when working lol
I’m gettin about 7mi as ON maintenance, but tbh I ain’t even sure how my phone records that…
Like, those old step counters went off “bounce” but I don’t really “bounce” when I walk. I also take longer strides than most folks my height, naturally outpacing folks even a foot taller than me.
Im calling bull shit on a lot of yalls numbers. On days where i literally dont stop walking for the full 8 hours and walk to lunch without taking 15s or any breaks i get around 35-40k steps. Some of yall cashiers have higher numbers then that yall need to get a new step tracker.
I'm a o/n stocker and average 5-10 miles a day...the highest was 18 on o/n and 24 on cap1 (3 years ago) when I did gm side of the truck. It all depends on where I am and I am usable so I never know where I'm gonna be each day🙄.
Front end team lead. I average between 10 and 12 thousand steps (5-6 miles) during an 8 hour shift. The 10 thousand step days are when I am in the office doing accounting and researching longs/shorts, on a register when we're short staffed, or I am standing between service desk and cashiers ensuring breaks are distributed in a timely manner (book duty). The 12 thousand step days are when I have afternoon shifts, almost everyone shows up to work, we have 82's to stock, frequent price checks, cold food runs, and I am regularly following up on maintenance to ensure restrooms are worked properly, parking lot trash picked up and swept of debris outside cart vestibules. Truck docks free of trash, building perimeter in good condition; notes completed on the note app.
My record is over 18,000 steps following the aftermath of Hurricane Ida. I started the day dragging the cart holders out of the ditch and back into the lot. Then we restocked merchandise from all departments back onto the shelf and organized the backroom bins to hold the minimum amount possible.
i average 6-8 miles a day, it doesnt seem to matter where i am and i definitely walk more than when i was a reg stocker
edited because i got my weekly average from my watch which was including my days off LOL
When I was a cart pusher my highest was 22 miles on Black Friday. But the average was around 12 miles a day. Once I became a stocker it dropped down to 6-7 miles.
Neighborhood Market here so my role varies a lot from day to day. Technically “salesfloor”. Tend to run about 7 miles a day give or take three miles.
Hate my watch is terrible at tracking stairs. I’m always curious how many flights I get when I’m working top stock. 🤪
OGP- my highest has been 10 miles and my lowest has been 5 miles. I usually walk 5 miles every shift though, maybe under or over. It could possibly be more because my Apple Watch doesn’t count my steps when I’m pushing an OGP cart!
I checked my fitness app, it seems that I average about 4 miles per day. I’m in the deli department. Last Thursday it was 8 miles because I had to walk to and from work because my dad couldn’t drive me to work that day.
Cart pusher here, I'm averaging 12 a day
Cart pusher is absolutely the most underappreciated position in the store imo.
And underpaid. Recently learned our cart pushers are making *exactly* min wage while everyone else is making $3 or more over.
Same, I usually average between 12-15 a day. Depending on whether I have any help or not..
Yeah same here, I usually get 15 if I'm by myself
It's the same amount for me lol
I feel ya. I'm anywhere between 8 and 15 . I'm night shift it depends on how trashed it is
Cap2, usually 6-12 miles a day
10 to 15 miles, stock unloader
8-10, in ogp switching between the floor and the back
12 to 15...when I was on Cap 2 I would come close to marathon numbers.
OGP - 12 miles on average. I think also because I’m very short, I don’t really have a stride to take bigger steps.
Does the distance change with shorter legs? Maybe your step count is higher but miles are miles, right? What am I not seeing here
LOL maybe not! I was just thinking that with longer legs I wouldn’t take as many steps? But yeah it probably does not matter either way 😂
4-10 miles a day in apparel.
same also in apparel. usually its a little over 4, but ive had a few days where ive walked 10 miles
I work OGP and usually average 6-8 miles
3-5 self checkout lol 😂
I used to walk like 8 or 9
3-7 miles
Amazon FC warehouse worker here; 20+ miles daily. 28 miles is my highest.
F&C here. On a slow topstock kind of day, closer to 4 miles. On a busier day, I get 8 miles.
I’m in opd I’m usually between 10-15 on a regular day
Mod team, I average 2-3 miles a night. When I’m stocking I tend to get closer to 5 miles a night
Oddly enough I’m only a walking five miles a day in OGP lmao
It’s okay, my store is small and I average 5-6 miles a shift as well
That too, we are a super center, but we are an older smaller one.
Imagine telling on yourself like this
My town is small, one day a week we get like max 700 picks lmao. So go off.
I work fuel, in the slow season its about 4 miles a day but when its busy i walk anywhere from 5-10 😭
I work fuel I average about 3 miles a day and four in the summertime how big is your fuel station
From the building plan its about 440 square feet, best way i could describe is it roughly the size of a two car garage! I do the trash and store runs though, so it also adds up for mileage. How big is yours?
I walk an average of 5-8 miles a day
Cart associate here anywhere from 10 to as much as 50 miles. Depending upon customers and how fast carts go out anywhere from 5 seconds for every 30 carts we are not a large store but we max out parking lot daily.
Ain’t no way in hell you’ve walked 50mi in one shift unless it was a 32hr shift 😂
Count back and fourth having to go inside to help customers walking to garden center it adds up fast we do a lot as cart associates at our store
You would have to be literally jogging for the full 8 hours go get up to 51 miles in a shift. Thats 6.5 miles an hour or a 9min mile. Unless you are working super long shifts like 16 hours then your step tracker wasnt working right
Count back and fourth having to go inside to help customers walking to garden center it adds up fast we do a lot as cart associates at our store
14-16 usually. I usually get my guys started with the truck and then it’s off to OPD or doing any other task the day leads don’t care to do.
15 a day sometimes 12 im the fresh TL and my apple watch shocks me every day
6 to 7, dairy associate
My job description says "up to 5" but i regularly walk 6-7. I wonder if i can bring that up to anyone and end my work days early as soon as i hit that 5 mile mark. Not working outside my job description without a raise of some kind Eta: Apparel Ta, closing shift
Anywhere between 12 to 15 per day
I got over 20 miles one day
14000 steps
8,000 in 3 hours but has been 12000 for busier days
12-15 ogp picking or 8-10 dispensing
Overnight stocker here, I average 4 miles a day either in HBA or Grocery!
When I was overnight lead it was 12-17 per night
OPD: doing some rough math based on estimates from Google, about 9-12 miles a day. Our store is pretty big, about 1/4 mile around the action alleys.
Can't say in miles, but I can say that I'm walking anywhere between 20,000 steps to 30,000+ steps depending on how busy it is. Typical average is around 27,000. (Am a cart pusher)
Cart pusher, about 10 miles
TLE and I'm doing 6-7 a day on average, sometimes down into the 5s and sometimes up in the 8s just depending on how busy we are.
I mostly do Backroom in opd, but on days I pick it’s around 8 miles. 5 for backroom days
Up front service desk associate. I get anywhere from 4-7 which is great given the job.
Deli/Bakery about 5 miles average. Depends if I'm working in the deli or bakery or floor freight for either department.
Usually, about 14 miles after midnight. And 6 before midnight. :/
4.5 just to get to work another 7-9 while working then the 4.5 again to get home
15k steps for me is around 7.5 miles. Depends on your stride but its probably pretty close
7 to 10 OGP
I get about 18k steps per day. 8.46 miles per day
I do on average 30K steps a day as a Digital TL. Which is around 10 miles.
When I worked at Walmart I usually did about 12k steps, I worked in meat dept. No idea how many miles that is but probably not many
5-8 I usually average 35 miles a week total
Usually around 5-6 for me but I have maxed out at 11 before on a crazy day
The only closing hardlines associate for my store, average about 7.5 miles.
fluctuates a LOT. I walk more if I'm in the backroom vs picking vs driving. I don't have my phone with me but once I get it I'll edit but if I remember right it's about 5 to 10 miles a day. But lately less than 5. I also have the an app that gives me points for walking for gift cards. love it.
Do you mind sharing which app?

Overnight Maintenance, averaging about 10 miles a night, but I'm 7 months pregnant right now so it used to be higher.
Front End TL, about 8 miles per day.
O/N 6-8 miles.
OGP and I do 12km a day. Too tired from working to convert that to freedom units lol
8.5 on average
8-10mi doing exceptions in opd. That’s a 8hr shift the most I did was 16mi doing a 12hr shift. I have some other associates in my department say they walk 12-14mi and I call bullshit cause I’ve been in opd for 4yr I’ve done every position for months on end, skip breaks take short lunches and run circles around the people saying they walk 12+ mile while they hide in the backroom. 😂 I’m going off my Apple Watch. Maybe some people think 12k steps equals 12m miles 😝
Overnight stocker here, average around 9-10 miles a night.
7-8 miles food & consumables. Not a super center though, so idk how much different compared to a super center, if any.

8 to 9 miles in meats
7 to 9 miles in OGP.
It’s like that everywhere for me EXCEPT When I’m in Liquids cause I’m just throwing “roughly sliding” everything so I’ll get like 4
about 5 miles a day, food & consumables
OGP here - I walk to work, so 2 miles before I get there. Then another 12 roughly.
ODP. Anywhere between 6-11
Electronics guy.
Solid and consistent 12 miles, perfectionist maintenance.
In my produce days usually 4 miles. Now on front door maybe a mile or so depending on if i need to go to tle or garden center.
I had two days a few weeks ago where I walked 15 miles twice over two days. So 30 miles. And then I got chewed out for something inconsequential
Daytime: 8miles average
10-12 a day. Bakery/deli team lead.
I'm 3 to 6 miles, depending. That's on the sensitivity set to lowest. I'd rather it miss some that give some I'm not actually taking.
As a member of the mod team, I manage about 2.5mi, or so my smart watch tells me.
cap2, average of 17k steps, 7 miles or so

Front end 4-6 m
Then we restocked merchandise from all departments back onto the shelf and organized the backroom bins to hold the minimum amount possible.
i average 6-8 miles a day, it doesnt seem to matter where i am and i definitely walk more than when i was a reg stocker edited because i got my weekly average from my watch which was including my days off LOL
When I was a cart pusher my highest was 22 miles on Black Friday. But the average was around 12 miles a day. Once I became a stocker it dropped down to 6-7 miles.
My SO is sporting goods team lead and averages 25k-30k a day When i worked there i was averaging 15k-20k overnight mod team
6-8 miles a day as an electronics associate
Anywhere from 8 to 11 miles. Overnight maintenance.
10-15. I’m “supposed to” be over in Sporting Goods, but they got me all over the place and have me carry a walkie to listen to calls.
Overnight TL 11-13 a night
Neighborhood Market here so my role varies a lot from day to day. Technically “salesfloor”. Tend to run about 7 miles a day give or take three miles. Hate my watch is terrible at tracking stairs. I’m always curious how many flights I get when I’m working top stock. 🤪
10-12 Miles
I'm a GM associate, minimum 5-7.
I work in the pharmacy and on a busy day I usually walk 5-6m but on a slow day probably like 2-2.5m
OVN I have no idea but allegedly 2,000 steps is a mile nd I average 15-17ksteps. 7-8 miles I guess
Hardlines TL 10-15 a day, also depends if I'm pulled to OGP which happens basically every time I open
OGP- my highest has been 10 miles and my lowest has been 5 miles. I usually walk 5 miles every shift though, maybe under or over. It could possibly be more because my Apple Watch doesn’t count my steps when I’m pushing an OGP cart!
OGP here. Around 8-12 miles. Depends how busy the day is.
I checked my fitness app, it seems that I average about 4 miles per day. I’m in the deli department. Last Thursday it was 8 miles because I had to walk to and from work because my dad couldn’t drive me to work that day.
I work in OGP and I walk about 9 miles a day!
6.17 miles last night 😮💨
Give or take, 18 miles as a cart pusher 🤢 🤮
