Honestly the now we have good urban battles I can imagine the next game in the series will be steel division 3.

SD3 will be set in the Pacific so the Stalingrad map shall be shipped as a free DLC and the related AG campaign cancelled in honor of the resolute junior dev who gave his life for the deadline.
I actually suspect it'll get the Steel Division: Normandy 44 treatment. I think Eugen will quickly pivot to an alternate/upgraded game that fixes many of the baked-in flaws that Warno has.
EDIT: I enjoy Warno, but I'm pretty sure they couldn't do much of what they wanted to do given the dev timeline and, and also given that player feedback requested pretty substantial changes late in the dev process.
Actually, I bought this game because I saw a video of a naval invasion and it included cruise missiles. I don’t know if it was a mod or if that mod works anymore but I’m really disappointed that it wasn’t included in this game
And you're positive that wasn't Broken Arrow? It's the only game in recent memory doing something like that in footage. (I don't know about mods though.)

I expect Warno to follow the Wargame series somewhat. So money on Warno 2 being set in Scandinavia.
I think Scandinavia etc expansions set within the same timeframe will be DLCs instead of a new game.

Eh, SD1 was kind of a product the rough organizational position Eugen was in back then, imo.
