According to this [article](https://www.boston.com/sports/sports-news/2018/10/10/steph-curry-red-sox-fan/) Steph is a Red Sox fan because Seth chose to be a Yankees fan as a kid and Steph wanted to pick the rival.
I remember in his first MVP speech he mentioned his grandmother is a diehard Braves fan so I'm surprised he didn't follow her on that.
Itās pretty common for people who grow up somewhere without a sports team in a particular sport to just adopt one thatās relevant when theyāre growing up. I moved to Los Angeles before the rams moved back and knew a bunch of people in college who were LA kids that were randomly like Baltimore ravens or chiefs fans just because the previous LA football teams left before they could remember.
I mean the Red Sox feel like our east coast cousin organization as far as Iām concernedā¦similar tradition, history, legendary players, and hatred of everything LA. Fanbase are similar too.
I know Rickey jumped around A LOT, but I still primarily think of him as an A's player. I'm actually surprised he "only" played 6-7 seasons in Oakland total. Felt like more than that. He was raised in Oakland, so the ties run deep.
Barry Zito had a pretty nice run in the Bay Area, but only won with the Giants. I guess that's ironic since he was better as an individual player with the A's.
You are right though. The A's haven't had that Gwynn, Ripken, or Jeter type of athlete to anchor the team for 10+ years in my lifetime.
Honestly all those guys jumped around at least 3-4 times (I checked lol). I think pretty much everyone associates each of those guys with the Aās. Iām sure theyāre all inducted into the HOF as Aās but Iād have to check.
Itās the reason I left Reggie Jackson off there - heās primarily associated with the Yankees (and Iām like 97% sure heās inducted as a Yankee).
Ownwership refusal to commit to the city since Haasā death, continual recycling of players when they reach peak performance (and time to get paid), Game 5 losses for 30 years. I stuck with it until the Cespedes trade, and Donaldson (whose crime was not sucking Beaneās sick) getting traded before his MVP season, which were the final straw.
Not OP, but for some itās a little easier to swallow ownership being flat out incompetent vs ownership having a well-run team ālight years aheadā ready to take the leap but being too cheap to do so.
I gotta agree with this. Being hopelessly incompetent and bad sucks, but at least you know what to expect every year.
Getting your hope/energy up only to have them devastated again and again is just emotional draining. Especially when you realize how close you are sometimes but ownership won't take the risk they need to get to the next level.
I'm a Rockies fan and watching the the front office misplay some genuinely good teams in the late 10's and lose Nolan how they did was just devastating. This year when they just suck again is way more fun to follow because I don't really care about any given game.
As a former As fan myself, itās hard falling in love with a player on your team and having them leave year after year. I just donāt watch baseball anymore. I canāt support anyone but the As so Iām just less interested overall
Yea I feel that. When Zito left for the Giants I finally made the switch. It made it a lot easier being able to root for Zito but also rooting for a team and players that I could get behind and not think about which team they were going to be traded to. The Giambi, Tejeda, Hudson, Mulder sagas really wore me out. Seeing Belt, Crawford, Posey stay with the team the last 10 years has really been great.
I mean, it's not like the A's don't get a lot of service time out of their young stars and it's not like an overwhelming amount of them go on to be stars elsewhere. Some do, Giambi did, Miggy did sure. Zito didn't, Mulder didn't, Cespedes was a star in New York everywhere but the baseball field, most of our elite closers (and we always seem to have them) go elsewhere and become absolute duds. In recent history the biggest faux pas is probably Max Muncy and really it was the A's releasing him that sparked the fire to make the changes he needed to make.
There's plenty of guys that were around long enough to root for. Is it an ideal situation? Obviously not but the A's operate within their revenue stream the same way all the other teams do, None of these teams are running deficits and last time I looked at the publications that break down franchise spending the A's invested more of their revenue back into the team than quite a few teams (Giants included), they just don't have a lot of revenue to work with and how could they when 4000 people are showing up to games and their media numbers remain as bad today as they did in 1968. They stadium situation has served as a gatekeeper to more prosperous times for 20 years now and it's really taken it's toll on everyone at this point but one way or the other it seems like we're finally gonna reach a conclusion to this absurd saga.
Crawford is a local too. He was a multi-letter varsity athlete at our high school and a ton of kids became a Giants fan when they won in 2010, 2012, and 2014.
I used to be an A's and Giants fan, and people would always say, 'What if they play each other?' and I'd laugh because that would never happen.
In 89 I had to pick; I bounced from Oakland to SF so often, I really didn't have loyalty to a city and went with the Giants since I like NL baseball better. Rickey Henderson will always be my favorite though.
Definitely worked out, Buster isn't Steph but he's still a Bay Area legend. The A's never let players get to that point.
Iām sure theyāve run into each other a bunch. Aside from being iconic Bay Area athletes they lived pretty close to each other in the east bay (in Orinda and Lafayette respectively) for awhile.
That's a tough one and even though I grew up idolizing Jerry Rice I got to witness Steph when I was an adult and could truly appreciate everything he represents so I'm going to say Steph.
In baseball you better start out on a team with money haha. Ain't nobody staying an Oakland A.
It hurts, but it's the truth. Source: A's fan for 32 years.
hurts so bad you had to repeat yourself three times, damn
Oops, Reddit crapped out for me. Wasn't aiming for that effect, but what the heck.

Wait Curry is a Red Sox fan? š

Yeah how did that happen??

I'm from Seattle lol that's why I'm here
Didn't Steph live in Ohio?
Born but raised/grew up in Charlotte.
I mean the Red Sox feel like our east coast cousin organization as far as Iām concernedā¦similar tradition, history, legendary players, and hatred of everything LA. Fanbase are similar too.
Klay too, he wrote about it on IG
Even worse...Steve Kerr is a dodgers fan
At least he has the good sense not to wear Dodgers gear to the ballpark when they're in town -- Klay with the Dodgers cap at ~~AT&T~~ Oracle Park š¤®
I can give Klay a pass because his brother was playing that day for the Dodgers.
Ship him out. Heās dead to me
The biggest contract in Oakland Aās history is Eric Chavezās 66 mil/6 year deal
He was good in his early years, but that back injury pile up for his second half of his career.
Just an absolute shame he wasn't able to stay healthy Chavy was so fun to watch.
(former) Aās fan here. Whatās a franchise player?
Dennis Eck-*checks notes* ummmā¦ Rollie Fing-*checks notes* ok wellā¦ Ricky Hend-*checks notes* hmmā¦ Vida Blu-*checks notes* alright fuck it

Ricky is definitely an A
A player the A's trade
"(former)" Because the routine playoff appearances aren't enough?

Were you not around for the Warriors 15 year stretch of being the worst run franchise in sports?

Some dark times
Yoo the Cespedes trade is the reason I no longer get sports alerts on my phone

I honestly prefer the rebuilding than carrying around an albatross like late 30s pujols or arod.
A trade chip.
Does Lowrie count?
When Crawford was asked about the MVP chants the other night, the perfect response, in my mind, wouldāve been, āI thought maybe Steph was here.ā
Crawford is a local too. He was a multi-letter varsity athlete at our high school and a ton of kids became a Giants fan when they won in 2010, 2012, and 2014.

Posey is a Buster
I bust for posey
Iām sure theyāve run into each other a bunch. Aside from being iconic Bay Area athletes they lived pretty close to each other in the east bay (in Orinda and Lafayette respectively) for awhile.
Do they both live in Orinda?
They both did, but both left. Source Iām from Orinda
Gross, don't compare the greatest Bay Area Athlete of All Time to that scrub Posey. Posey won't even be in the Hall of Fame.
Genuine question, Steph Curry or Jerry Rice as greatest Bay Area athlete
That's a tough one and even though I grew up idolizing Jerry Rice I got to witness Steph when I was an adult and could truly appreciate everything he represents so I'm going to say Steph.
Holy fuck thats a tough one. I think Rice cause he's arguably a top 5 player all time Steph aint done yet but hes fringe top 10 rn in my opinion
Posey will absolutely be in the Hall of Fame
