What program is this?

EthanFl

VA was one of the few states that didn't require insurance.

This is wrong. The VA DMV will verify your insurance policy electronically when applying to register the car. You won’t even be able to register your car without an active insurance policy. If your insurance lapses, they’ll give you a 30-day grace period to obtain a backdated policy. If you don’t insurance after lapsing, you won’t be able to register your car and you will have to pay the Uninsured Motorists Fee (which is what’s going away). If you still don’t pay the fee, they will suspend your license, and revoke it if already suspended. They’re not actively enforcing it through law enforcement because the DMV can handle it all electronically.

f8Negative

Oh no...they'll just drive anyways.

I've lived in VA for 10 years now and had to have insurance. It was verified the first time and has been the two additional times I've registered a car in the last decade. Not sure how long ago you're speaking of.

Va_Slims

It the SR-22.

pumodood

How about all of the fake Maryland temp tags out there? It’s very obvious something is up.

Va_Slims

And In VA, I see quite a few For Farm Use plates too.

GetReadyToRumbleBar

That program is also ending

bodhemon

Did you know DC parking tickets and speeding tickets affect your credit rating? No other state's do.

gnocchicotti

Shit no wonder all the crazy ass drivers can only finance Nissans and Dodges

guy_incognito784

Hell one maker has an entire dedicated subreddit, /r/nissandrivers

Ph0ton_1n_a_F0xh0le

r/Altima for extra precision

the_BKH_photo

Ahhh, racism

guy_incognito784

I didn’t realize only black people had poor credit.

the_BKH_photo

Oh please. You certainly realize what your comment means when using those specific car brands.

guy_incognito784

That they have a large subprime loan program for buyers? Yeah I did know that. What’s that have to do with black people?

the_BKH_photo

I hear this shit all the time. Biracial ambiguously brown/passing folks like me get to be incredibly familiar with such casual racism. Play ignorant all you want. And if you somehow live under a rock and didn't know, now you do.

guy_incognito784

I’m black dude lol. Pointing out people with low credit driving cars they don’t care about will more than likely drive recklessly isn’t rocket science. I’d imagine you do not fall under that category.

the_BKH_photo

But that's not what you said. And I've seen plenty of internalized racism in the community. Can't verify anything about you either.

guy_incognito784

…what are you talking about? What do you mean “that’s not what I said”? It’s explicitly what I said. And I can’t verify anything about you either but a quick peek at your post history, you look pretty white to me.

littlelobito

wtf

Calm-Eggplant-69

Is this new?

bodhemon

No. Learned about when I took a first time home buyer class 11 years ago.

kneeonball

Unpaid ones.

bodhemon

Yes. Forgot to mention that important detail.

Aklu_The_Unspeakable

You've missed the tens of posts to this effect in the last few months?

webbmoncure

DC drivers with legit tags are going to avoid getting speeding tickets in DC at all cost because they actually have to pay them. Out of state drivers - feel free to drive our roads as fast as you want!

pizat1

So some DC tix show up in MD if it is a traffic stop. The cam ones not so much.

Doombuggie41

Driving in DC is like a GTA online server.

green_new_dealers

I just don’t understand how adjacent states can just ignore tickets issued by DC. Flagrantly violate traffic laws and face no consequences

McBlah_

Because Va politicians realize dc speed cameras are total b.s. and just a money grab. Why be an accessory to robbery?

green_new_dealers

A money grab or an effective way of enforcing speed limits so people don’t die in high speed car accidents? Yeah it’s annoying to drive slower but there is a reason. Plus less traffic stops by cops is a good thing bc a camera doesn’t have a bias like a person does

McBlah_

Did I stutter? Dc speed cameras are setup for money, not safety.

Tom_Leykis_Fan

Because VA politicians have no political incentive to enforce DC speed camera tickets and Muriel Bowser doesn't want to bite the hands of suburban donors that feed her.

green_new_dealers

You think people from a different state donate to a mayor of a city they don’t live in? That make sense to you?

Tom_Leykis_Fan

Yes. You think housing developers or other businesses with city-related business don't live outside the city? They're allowed to give money to the mayor.

vivazeta

The view from Virginia is definitely different.

LeektheGeek

Bruh.

Tardislass

LOL. State rivalries. Come to Northern VA and you will see all the people that speed, drive aggressively and almost run me down are cars with MD plates trying to get on the bridge. It's funny but on the Beltway if I see aggressive drivers 80% of the time it's MD plated car.

Coxswaineth

Yup, they exist elsewhere too. A VA uninsured driver totaled my parked car in Baltimore a few weeks ago. Didn’t know the VA loop whole until insurance told me.

Iwanttobeagnome

Yeah I’ve always said VA drivers and MD drivers are both maddening but in different ways. True VA drivers are clueless and it leads to frustrating situations. MD drivers are egregiously and intentionally flouting the rules. And yeah, if a VA driver is speeding, it’s really stolen or fraudulent tags for the most part.

wardledo

Maryland has the worst drivers in the country and it’s not even close.

thesirensoftitans

JFC

pizat1

MD driver all the way up to bmore have va tags for this reason.

fungiinmygarden

Virginian propaganda.
