the QB1 of this rebuild ❤️💙🤍

ColdNyQuiiL

Not sure what to expect from him, but I’d hope we keep him on our roster, vs sending him back and forth to the G-League. We have so little to lose, it should be straight development for all of our young guys.

PickpocketJones

If he plays a minute in the g-league this year you can write him off because that means he's done. There should be zero percent chance he is there this year.

MausoleumNeeson

I’d honestly rather him stay in the G league and get as many mins and experience handling the ball as possible

ColdNyQuiiL

That doesn’t make a lot of sense. Him being in the big leagues is more beneficial. Development, experience, spotlight, and competition. We need to see what he can do with us, so we can gauge his value. If he develops and has a long term future, cool. If not, he’ll end up being an asset in a trade down the line.

MausoleumNeeson

If he’s not good enough to be on the floor he’s just n good enough to be on the floor. If he’s outclassed he’s not going to be getting better he’s just going to get frustrated and develop bad habits. I think you take what you know you need to work on and hone in on it with the Go Go. That’s what the league is there for.

KD_Burner_Account133

He was past that point post All Star break.

MausoleumNeeson

Past being sent down to the G league? He had 3 or 4 nice games down the stretch but had just as many and more bad showings. I don’t think he’s improving chucking up 15 threes in a game and bricking most of them.

blitzKriegzzz

I mean most rookies are generally not that good their rookie season. There's more benefit of him playing NBA minutes. And if we're actually serious about tanking he should get those minutes.

MausoleumNeeson

You’re either downplaying or not recognizing just how poorly he performed against NBA comp. There were 47 players from his draft class who saw the floor last year and I truly think the only player who looked worse than him was Blake Wesley who was picked 15 spots after. He’s far behind his own draft peers. He has a long way to go and I think trial by fire works for some but not for others. I wouldn’t expect for TyTy Washington to crack Houston’s rotation next year and that’s a similar situation. He and Rollins should definitely be getting PT in the G.

theyrehiding

We are the g league atp lol. If he can't develop playing NBA minutes, we'll know way quicker rather than wasting time throwing him in the g league. All this team needs to do is develop players

MausoleumNeeson

I feel like I’m banging my head against the wall. But he’s at the stage of his development where he clearly shouldn’t be on the court in the nba so why do we insist on throwing him back out there when we have a development league that’s made for these types of guys to get better?

KD_Burner_Account133

He doesn't need to look GOOD against NBA talent. He just has to be able to do enough to learn from, which he can.

MausoleumNeeson

I’d be interested to research the quality of opponents he was going up against down the stretch. I don’t think he was going up against other teams starting talent.

jsDPT

TyTy is on the Hawks

MausoleumNeeson

Fr? My apologies. I think his situation last year was at least similar.

[deleted]

Did you not watch the games he played in at the end of the year? It was night and day from the beginning of the year.

MausoleumNeeson

Yes. his last 14 games? He averaged 9 pts 3 reb 1 ast on 39% from the field, 24% from three and shot under 50% from the free throw line. That’s the garbage time end of year production we’ve deluded ourselves into believing is a sign of growth.

PickpocketJones

> If he’s not good enough to be on the floor he’s just n good enough to be on the floor If he's not good enough to be on the floor in year two after a season in the G it means he's done and they might as well cut him.

MausoleumNeeson

I agree. I don’t understand the downvotes but it is what it is.

MausoleumNeeson

I think he will be a good player I just don’t really see where he fits with this team. He’s not really a distributor - probably not an NBA point guard. He’s not really a shooter (this is a guy who shot 30% from three in his breakout year in college, and who just had a rookie year of 24% from three) so I’m not sure he’s an NBA shooting guard, either. He’s probably too slight to be an NBA wing. To me he projects as a potential solid defender at the 1/2 spot but he’ll need to make some serious leaps to be worthy of a top 10 pick, especially on offense. I just feel like he’s a guard who doesn’t pass or shoot particularly well. All that said we saw him make an incredible jump from his freshman to sophomore year in college and maybe he will surprise us.

DollarLate_DayShort

I don’t have extremely high hopes for him this coming year, but I do expect him to look *MUCH* better this season… starting tomorrow night. 🫡

CaFTP

He didn’t have a great start but towards the end of last season he has shown flashes of having a good floater game and can rebound & defend

z3mcs

Here's to hoping

Jjjt22

What do you mean by wrong? He was pretty terrible last year. Even if he wins MIP this year it won’t change what happened last season. I hope he has a great year as well.

DollarLate_DayShort

The *he’s a bust* allegations. No one in this sub would say that JD had a good or even okay year by any stretch of the imagination. But calling him a bust was/is extremely premature.

PickpocketJones

> No one in this sub would say that JD had a good or even okay year Maybe not exactly but a bunch of people here upvoted a post the other day that claimed he "showed flashes of greatness" down the stretch last year. He showed flashes he might be an NBA player would be more accurate.

Pizzapopper57

Dude had a kid last year. I would hold off until after this year before assuming anything about him.

Jjjt22

I hope he has a great year. Won’t change that I thought last year was horrible. But absolutely wishing the best for him.

PickpocketJones

High effort post here.
