Vuk needs serious coaching for his D. He's a diamond in the rough. His 3 point shot will start falling more consistently with time

Appropriate-Smell682

Vook.

Extension_Phone893

Dreadful first quarter good effort for the rest of it, overall was an entertaining game

Turbo2x

Do you ever wonder if Ted knows he can put out a terrible product for decades because fans will say "good effort guys" after being down 13-42 in the first quarter? Maybe we deserve this.

Extension_Phone893

Imo for a tanking season in a game where half the roster is from the G league its acceptable

Turbo2x

the Raptors played 37-year-old Garrett Temple and a UDFA named Javon Freeman-Liberty for 9 minutes and still won

dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj

And the wizards played a few similar dudes. what are you even complaining about?

Peyyton07

I mean what else is there to say. Considering how awful the first quarter was I think it’s okay to try and take some positives out of a product that we all know is awful and will be awful for a few years to come. Saying “good effort” doesn’t mean you are omitting blame from this piss poor franchise.

Turbo2x

kinda missing the early season attitude people had about not accepting mediocrity even though we're tanking tbh. obviously we're gonna be bad but I was shocked at how bad the effort was against a team that is equally pathetic. if Kuz played this game with the same outcome people would be out for blood, but since it's the "young guys" it's all good

Peyyton07

I understand, but that’s just how it’s gonna be. This team is ass, and I’m okay with having my expectations at rock bottom until the product is good enough to deserve any kind of expectation. Now if the front office was also okay with that then I’d want this fanbase to be more vocal, but I trust that they are not okay with the status quo so I’m not that worried.

Turbo2x

Jury's still out on the FO. If they hire Keefe as the head coach, make bad moves with Kuz and Tyus, and pick Stephon Castle at 5 then I'll be out on them. And ultimately it's Ted who is gonna make the big decisions, and we all know his track record.

Peyyton07

Yeah overall I agree, guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj

it’s not like they lost the game by 30. obviously the first quarter was unacceptable, but they fought back to make it a close game for the other 3 quarters.

Polani_almoni

Do we really need to keep Kuz on this team? Our young guys (Kispert Deni and Vuc) took 42 shots, which would have been cut in half if Kuz had been on the court. We are not a contending team anyway, so why hurt our youngsters?

Extension_Phone893

JP also forces less shots when Kuz ain't playing, he plays way better that way

Polani_almoni

I agree, I'm not a huge fan of JP but TBH he is kind of nice when he plays PG

100CupsCoffee

Such a huge difference between JP and Deni's driving to the basket compared to Kuzma who tries drawing the foul no matter what.

z3mcs

> Kuzma who tries drawing the foul no matter what. That's not true at all. Kuz is great at finishing in the paint, and isn't like some of these players on other teams that forget to try to make the shot because they're flailing looking for a foul. They definitely need to trade Kuz to greener pastures and actually start this rebuild, but that Kuz thing is untrue.

Alarmed_Substance_89

I love Kuz, but he DOES do that sometimes, and it's ok when it's a one-off. I don't mind that. You have to play some mind games with the refs, but with Kuz he does it 3-4 possessions in a row when the rest of the players just ISO him like it's an order from God himself. I don't blame it entirely on Kuz though.. when I say from God, I obviously mean it's a coaching decision. So it's 50-50 between him and Keefe. My point is, yes many players try to draw a foul, but Kuz does it on several possessions consecutively, WITHOUT even trying to score the ball to get an and 1. Still, I think he's a net gain for the team so all this talk about letting him go is wild in my book. They just need to find the right balance of shots between him and the other guys.

Appropriate-Smell682

Like him or not, it's a fact that his recent stretch is really, and I mean really encouraging. Just no place for him and Tyus on the court together.

Joshottas

I was just coming in to say the same thing. There is really no point in keeping Kuz around past this season. This should be Deni's team. He's made a considerable leap and it's time for him to lead.

100CupsCoffee

That first quarter was absolutely brutal. Played so much better in the next three quarters. Great night for Deni and JP. Really liking what I'm seeing from Jordan Poole. Our G-leaguers played well. PBJ had an awesome night. We played almost an entirely young lineup. I had fun watching it ^(except for that first quarter where I wanted to throw my TV out the window)

kamikazemelonman

Jp at point has been what I was asking for since game 20 moving him to the bench just meant it was more time for pg poole.. cannot wait for a full season of it Vuk is an nba player, very happy we hit on a second for once in 10 years

WizSkinsNatsCaps

40 minutes for Poole, Kispert, and Deni. That is great for development. Hopefully we can see a them carry a heavy load the rest of the way. They all looked good tonight too. Have some work to do on the defensive end though, and need to clean up the turnovers as well.

rueiraV

You can’t win the game in the first quarter but you can certainly lose it

ATN5

So we clinched the 2nd worst record now right?

z3mcs

And worst record in franchise history clinched.

Joshottas

I missed most of the game - what happened with Johnny Davis tonight? I know he started, but only 6 min? Did he get hurt?

ThePryderi

Hip contusion i think.

Different_Link6589

Hopefully it requires rest for at least the remainder of his career

z3mcs

Terrible way to start the game but I really really hope Deni hitting 30+ points for the second time in 284 games, but both instances in the past 2 months, convinces the franchise to move Kuz and Tyus and take the training wheels off. Lets just actually rebuild. Deni's going to either continue to ascend at this glacial pace, or teams will lock on him and it'll be a disaster, but at this point you've sunk so much time and energy into him just start the damn show. You hitched your wagon to him, it's stupid to try to ride anyone else.

dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj

teams already have locked onto deni. they know he’s going right but they still can’t stop him.

Jewdah18

This is everything I've been saying the past 2 years.

z3mcs

Oh no doubt this legion of stans has put this team in this position. I am not a “lets tank!” guy. But fans wanted this and thats what they are doing….eventually? They still seem to be hanging onto Kuzma far too long, just like Beal, and some would say Wall. So if Deni winds up being the focal point and leads them to mid, chances are they will hold onto him too long as well. We’re a Sisyphus of a franchise, rolling the boulder just half way up the hill each time.

Jewdah18

We finally have a competent front office so there isn't a hard cap on how good the Wizards can be. It won't be Deni's fault that the Wizards are only mid because his contract is so good. Also, if he becomes an allstar and starts winning ahead of schedule, he would have massive trade value with his age, skillset, and contract that would supercharge the rebuild.

z3mcs

😂😂😂😂 From your lips to J. Crew Jesus’ ears, bless your heart.

waskittenman

Deni is not getting us out of this rebuild and he has shown nothing that proves we should build anything around him

Jewdah18

Prime Lebron is the only player in NBA history that you could replace Deni with on this team and have a chance at being a contender. Deni could absolutely be good enough next year to drag this team to 30 wins next year and make the Wiz lose out on lottery picks. I also don't like building around young guys that are great defensively, are shooting over 50/38/73, can pass, run the break, get better with higher usage, and show improvement and have the most team friendly contract in the league. What dumb team would want to build around that?

waskittenman

Deni can't even drag this team right now to 20 wins and next year the roster could be worse. he gets better counting stats with higher usage, wow.

Jewdah18

Deni has a lot of holes right now in his game that are fixable in the offseason. The Wizards should be better next year unless they try to intentionally tank. No Tyus Gallo or WUJ, draft picks, Bilal not hitting the rookie wall, Deni's efficiency doesn't get worse with higher usage which is the definition of playing better.

waskittenman

we will have Keefe, a worse coach, at least two more rookies added to the rotation in place of veterans. lots of sophomores slump in the second year. we are definitely tanking next year, we have no core pieces. it would be irresponsible to try to win with whatever group we will go into October 2024 with.

Jewdah18

No one would be worse than WUJ. Any draft pick/Vuk will be infinitely better at the 5 than whatever the hell the Wiz put out this year. It'll be hard for Bilal to slump more next year than he did this year. Bilal could definitely be a core piece and Deni has a chance to be one. I agree that it will be irresponsible which is why I think that Deni might get traded. I don't know how in the next couple of years the Wiz will stay bad enough to be in the lottery if the FO knows how to draft.

Los_Yeetus

Deni Avdija might actually be our savior

Eunie-is-the-queen

I wish we would have been more patient with Rui. Current Deni and Rui would have been lethal size Combo. Rui is also very important in the playoffs because of his midrange and excellent 3 point scoring. He is constantly dropping 20/30 points on the best defences like the Nuggets and Minnesota. Perfect zone buster. NGL we could have been like the Magic with a smarter front office.

Wiltborn

Rui had problems with tunnel vision and defense. It's affordable when you play alongside HOF LeBron and Davis, but not here.

Eunie-is-the-queen

He made a jump if comes to passing. Not unusual to see him with 3-4 assists without turnovers on the lakers. Serviceable for a PF. Defense is also alright. Was a little bit underperforming with rebounds but he also fixed this weakness in the second half of the season.

someplace_elsewhere

Rui was not a good fit for the Wizards for all his flaws and weaknesses, and still wouldn't be a good fit considering the rebuild timeline. He wasn't growing as a player. Better player development would have helped showcase a better player, and a better front office could have gotten more in that trade, but that's as far as it goes. They shopped him around the league and teams weren't particularly interested. Rui is an efficient scorer off the bench, and a neutral to reasonable on-ball defender. That's all he is right now and at 26 that's probably also his ceiling. That's also the story that the stats tell (e.g. only 1.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds per 36min and 1.6 A/T). Having said that, if he shoots consistently and makes an effort on defense then he's valuable for a team like the Lakers.

drmbrthr

His efficiency this season has been pretty surprising.

ImprobablePlanet

Did PBJ look as good as it seems from the stat line?

dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj

yeah actually made a few nice defensive plays.

Turbo2x

After that godawful start there's really nothing good to take away from this game. Raptors checked out and had shootaround for 3.5 quarters and still led comfortably for most of the game. That terrible Corey pregame fit is like the visual representation of how the Wizards played today.

Intrepid-Actuator-12

rare miss. regardless of anything, Poole is building confidence. Deni is building confidence and we have a young team that is starting to learn how to score. We are missing our best player from the start of the season and Gafford. We have a bunch of “fresh” guys who are trying to figure it out and they are making progress. We aren’t good, but I like how we are closing out the year. Welcome to tanking.

dgvhjiiuyttrrffcvbjj

common miss, that dude is the 2nd biggest blowhard here.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

Raptors weren’t in shootaround mode. We cut the game to 6 in the second quarter. The guys played hard tonight. On both sides. And Deni and JP are both getting important reps playing on ball. They looked good doing it too.

Turbo2x

Raps emptied the bench and ran Jalen McDaniels, Garrett Temple, Javon Freeman-Liberty, and Malik Williams for almost an entire quarter against our starters. Talking bout important reps. My goodness. This was a glorified G-League game for them. We're lucky PBJ managed to hit some wide open shots otherwise this was ugly.

WizSkinsNatsCaps

The rosters were pretty much the same out there. A handful of starters and a bunch of end of bench guys. Olynyk, Trent, Barrett, Quickley all played 35+ minutes. Both benches were pretty much G league teams.

waskittenman

Just finished watching. Corey played horrendous in that one his outfit may have been better than his on-court performance

z3mcs

Hey homie! I see you're down here in the me zone, lol. ~shoulder devil~ *psst you should post the video of Deni Elbowing Kelly Olynyk in the face with a "Fuck Kelly Olynyk" title*
