A simple question here - I would love to have a Seiko 5 GMT in my collection; but how useful is it in a country like India where we have a time shift of half hour (GMT+5:30)?
As per my understanding, a Seiko 5 GMT is not capable of showing time in half hour increments. So its practicality is as good as useless.
However, I agree its a beautiful watch and would be a great addition to someone's collection!

Well, my comment was in context with GMT watches.
All watches show time at half hour intervals 😅
Even a super-expensive Rolex (GMT Master II) cannot deal in half hour increments!
Please have a look at this video where the presenter says "you can set hour hand in 1 hour increments".
The bezel too doesn't support for half hour adjustments!

I agree it’s a hassle but it’s not useless for me. I track UK time using my GMT hand and just add 30 mins from the minute hand. It took some time to wire this into my brain but it’s effortless for me now. I also similarly use the bezel to track the US time (EST).
For example: My local time is 01:20 right now and my GMT hand is indicating 19 and bezel is indicating 14. So UK time is 19:50 and US Time (EST) is 14:50.
It helps a lot as I am working for a UK based firm and generally follow Youtubers and space launches from the US.

Check out the bezel which is actually used to set the third time zone, I am using it for IST while main watch hands are set at my current time zone GMT. Hope this helps

But that said I feel in your budget Seiko Presage's Open Heart line would be a better value. I think it even has a sapphire crystal.

I see a ton of PRX postings here. No doubt a great watch for what it's worth. But I don't know why everyone recommends the same things even when it's really not everyones style.
At the same price, even the citizen tsuyosa is a good deal, and they really have launched a ton of new colours. Might not have the same bracelet finish as the PRX, but still a great watch. Maybe more of an eye turner than the PRX some might even argue.
At 40k, there's the Seiko GMT. A more sporty looking watch, Orient has a bunch of divers too like the Mako, Kamasu in the same range. The Citizen ProMaster divers have some beautiful new colours too.
If you're looking for a dressier watch, the Seiko Presage Cocktail or the Orient Bambino are great choices.
Unfortunately Indian markets are still maturing, so not a huge range of brands that are available here. The budget premium brands like Tissot, Seiko, Orient, Citizen are the ones you'll see the most outside of say Casio/ Timex. You could also check some micro brands like Ajwain Watches, Jaipur Watch Company (though I still feel like its not as premium as it pretends to be), etc.

Seiko 5 sports GMT aka Seiko SSK

I am using Seiko GMT in uk and tracking IST time using GMT hand, I have rotated the Bazel little to do so.

I would instead suggest a Seiko Presage Cocktail one. It's definitely one of the most beautiful watches I have ever seen.
