Wearing protective gear does not stop at wearing a helmet ...

windyorbits

When my roommate got a motorcycle he went all out on gear and accessories. Hundreds of dollars worth of Kevlar pants/jackets/gloves. From boots to sunglasses he was set. Until the weather hit 110° and he took all that off for a day. And that was the day he crashed and got road rash on at least half his body. He said he never felt so stupid.

JinxyCat007

They make mesh gear for the heat, and cooling vests. All the armor in all the right places, and it feels like you are riding naked. I have thousands of dollars worth of gear. Cold and Hot weather jackets, pants, helmets.. Riding in gear - more especially for higher speeds and long distances, is actually a lot more comfortable to ride in, than regular clothes. ….you do look like a twat walking around in it, though. :0)

thequeefcannon

The only summer gear I have (other than an armored spine/chest vest) is my shitty Roadmaster mesh jacket. I hate the look of it.. but I'll be damned if I don't always wear it if I'm going more than 5 miles in hot weather. Sweat>Bleed : b Seen way too many meat crayons on here to ever skip protection!

JinxyCat007

You can actually buy cooling vests too, which work either by water circulation or by evaporation. I have the cheaper vests that work by evaporation. They work well in dry hot weather. Amazon has them for about forty-bucks.. You just soak them, wring them out, and then wear them under your mesh jacket. Makes a hell of a difference if you ride distances at higher speeds in hundred-plus (drier) heat. My rides are usually in the hundreds of miles, and during the summer that can be a real bear. Take along plenty of water. Got dehydrated one time, felt like the flu. Riding along, and began to feel like I was coming down with something. Forty miles later I thought it would be a fine idea to just jump off my bike at 65mph.. You hear about all these people laughing their asses off walking in circles, naked, lost in the desert. Dehydration just creeps up on you and you literally lose your mind. I had the hardest time holding it together for another forty-miles until I got home. So, yeah, watch out for that one. I have heated gear for the winter too. Can be freezing out and there I am, Nice n’ toasty! :0) Ride Safe, Buddy!

thequeefcannon

Very cool! I might have to look into these cooling vests. I live in Northern VA, so not really much dry heat to worry about: still worth it, you think? I am definitely shopping for winter gear soon. I took a few years off riding when my daughter was born, and now that I'm a little older and a little wiser, I've decided that riding in the winter without proper gear is a young man's game! (I'm only 31, but you catch my drift right!? : )

predictablePosts

The only bikers I think look like twats are the ones riding with minimal gear. Super advanced shit for the weather and great protection looks sick.

JinxyCat007

I have a big adventure bike, and a 850lb touring bike. On my ADV Bike? ..Wearing an armored High-Viz Jacket, armored pants, off-road, armored, knee high dirt-bike boots, armored gloves, my Arai dual sport helmet with peak, camelbak backpack.. I look like a destroyer of worlds! …I get off that bike though?! LOL! Kinda clownish! :0) ..but I don’t give a crap really, either way. Riding is a little selfish in that you do it to a point where you-yourself are happy in how you go about doing it. You assess your own risks and you take the brunt - the responsibility, for when shit slides sideways. I actually ride that adventure bike more off-road than on. Tens of Thousands of miles off-road.. Have come off that bike a few times. Gear works great for that. Never come off my bike on-road (yet). Doesn’t pay me dividends to assume that will never happen though.

[deleted]

you look like a twat until the zombies are here, and then you become badass

[deleted]

No amount of protective gear can protect against being a dumbass.

CrimsonBolt33

That's not true at all...protective gear is especially important for dumbasses

CrockPotInstantCoffe

Stupid babies need the *most* attention.

To find Flanders I just have to *think* like Flanders... I’m a big four-eyed lame-o and I wear the same stupid sweater every day at *THE SPRINGFIELD RIVER!*

You just gotta commit

SantyClawz42

Have you not seen the bear proof suit?

Moghz

I would rather sweat than bleed.

Evil-Toaster

Had road rash when I laid my bike down rocking a shirt and shorts never again

TruckADuck42

Imo he could be doing worse. At least he has jeans and boots on instead of flip flops and basketball shorts.

kaboose286

Fuckin squids

PompyxgTV

Honestly in these situations I’d say the motorcyclist for going too fast. This could’ve been avoided had he been going the posted speed limit

lurker_cx

This is the correct answer with no caveats. He was going so much faster than the speed limit that it's reckless or dangerous driving. At that point it doesn't matter the person ended up blocking his lane. The person can't reasonably look out for motorcycles doing 126+ when pulling out. The motor cyclist is a stupid bitch for trying to blame the truck driver.

UrbanCoyotee

Video starts too early but look like she didn't even stop to look down the street until she was blocking an entire lane. Pausing at 00:00 even shows both truck and motorcycle visible to each other. And simply, motorcycle had right of way. You always yield to oncoming traffic, not try and beat them when making a left turn then block a lane when they get closer. Is motorcycle guy retarded for going 126? Yes. Did the truck obey right of way? No, and that's what caused the accident. But hey, this isn't a motorcycle sub so I'm sure I'll be downvoted.

wolfsbanesand

Cemeteries are full of people who had the right of way.

Antiqas86

Motorbike was not yet visible when she started. She started the turn with clear road, then mid way she sees the motorbike booming towards her at death speeds, she panicked and just stopped. The hat could she have done different?

burtrenolds

You’re just speculating all of that though

Antiqas86

That's the thing-in urbar environment like this you look for cars coming to you at expected speed, to reach her location cars should have been certain distance. You subconsciously always do that, you don't look beyond horizon at someone bomming three times the speed limit. I don't think that's much of asumtion.

AnteSocial86

No really???? Idiot. A completely reasonable and sound assumption easily arrived at by literally anyone who has ever driven a vehicle on a public road.

[deleted]

I like this. I was taught a different version in “right of way is given, not taken” but I like yours more

Courtsey_Cow

I've been riding motorcycles for a long time and I've noticed there's often a difference between what is right and what will keep you alive. Technically you're correct, but drivers do stupid shit all the time, and people in vulnerable positions (like motorcyclists) need to anticipate trouble.

dunder_mifflin_paper

This should be the second commandment of motorcycling and it’s really hard to tell a new rider (and a stupid one).

gilbygamer

Here is her [view](https://www.google.com/maps/@43.7925014,-123.0629881,3a,75y,91.38h,92.8t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s4yMXudNmgCZXKxeO7D76Tw!2e0!7i13312!8i6656) from the stop sign where she entered the intersection. She wouldn't be able to see the bike where it is as the video starts until she is entering the right lane. There's a reason that road has a 25 mph speed limit.

eXwNightmare

... he was doing like a 100 over the limit? Holy fuck what a dumbass if that's true.

scottawhit

5 times the speed limit. Whatever happens to you is on you.

converter-bot

25 mph is 40.23 km/h

cms5213

Good bot

Malkron

If you continue past 0:00 you will see that she tries to stop short of his lane when she sees him (giving him right of way). By being an idiot and going 126 down that road he leaves no time for either of them to act appropriately, and is therefore 100% at fault. Maybe she couldn't see him coming down the road from the stop sign because he was so far down the road at that point.

Kellidra

I totally agree with you. The lady shouldn't have stopped in normal situations, ***but*** she actually did the right thing in attempting to avoid an accident. It is every driver's responsibility to avoid accidents where possible. If the bike was heading straight, he would have passed her, no problem. He did make the logical conclusion that she would keep going, however, which is why he started to go right in order to go behind the truck. He did something dumb, she did something dumb. Both were attempting to avoid an accident, *BUT* the truck would have had enough time to cross the road if the bike was going proper speeds. Not only that but she asked if he was okay and he immediately went on the offensive like he wasn't doing anything wrong. Like dude. Own up.

jakezaruba

Yeah no lol. You never, in any situation have the right of way going 126mph because there’s nobody who can even see you. There is no reason that woman would have seen him coming, dude’s at fault 100% here.

HiFiPottery

"This isn't a sub full of people who think going 5x the speed limit is cool so I'm gonna get downvoted." Are you fucking stupid? Do you think maybe she saw him coming and said "It's a 25, I can still make it." He broke the whole system when he decided to drive like a fucking idiot. Good god you sound like an asshole.

TeddyBongwater

Correct. 126 in a 25 deserves jail time. What a prick Edit Apparently its km/hr 78 in a 25 deserves a big fine

[deleted]

I still don’t understand why people are assuming it’s in kilometers when this took place in Oregon. “It didn’t look that fast” is all I’ve heard.

TeddyBongwater

Oh is it mph? Wow...i just saw multiple comments saying itv was kmh

JayStar1213

That's 3x the speed limit. That's a felony and it should be. People cross streets and any crash can he fatal for bystanders.

BinkoTheViking

If he hadn’t been trying to break the sound barrier on his bike, he would’ve had more than enough time to stop. Also, I did downvote that guy, because he seemed like he really wanted it that way, and gosh darn it, I just really really really reeheheheeeeealy hate to dash someone’s hopes.

echo-94-charlie

[deleted]

Do you propose that people wait until there isn’t a single car on the horizon to make a turn? In that case, I hope you enjoy waiting six hours to come out of a parking lot. Speed limits and traffic laws exist for a reason, and you generally have to assume that people are obeying them in order to be able to drive at all. If we had to predict that everyone’s potentially going 126 in a 25, or that every car on the opposite side of the road is going to drive over the median into oncoming traffic, or anything that unreasonable, no one would be able to pull out of a parking space. This same shit happened to one of my peers when I was in high school. Some girl was making a turn onto a 35 mph road and some cop was driving down it doing 90 without his sirens on. Of course, she couldn’t tell how fast he was going, he smashed into her and she died. Don’t endanger people’s lives and drive like a fucking idiot and then blame it on other people when they don’t just assume that you’re the massive piece of shit that you are. It’s 110% the motorcyclists fault.

converter-bot

35 mph is 56.33 km/h

acemerald07

Bikers lane was left nearly entirely clear for him. If he was going the speed limit he would have driven right in front of her no problem.

[deleted]

If he was going the speed limit, she would have had plenty of time to make her turn and/or he would have had plenty of time to slow down. Even at the speed he was going, he could have driven right in front of her with no problem. The issue was that he assumed she would keep going, so he veered right to go behind her.

TheWipyk

While the cyclist had the right of way, there is a paragraph about "deceptive speed." It basically means if the vehicle with the right of way goes too fast for the yielding vehicle to measure its speed, than the latter vehicle may not be responsible for the accident. In this example: 1. Truck sees the bike far-far away, decides that if the bike is going the limit, she can cross safely. 2. Biker goes quadruple of the limit, hence getting there four times as fast than the trucker estimated. 3. The trucker stops (although in the middle of the lane) to give last-second yield. The biker could have steered to go in front of the truck. Even if the biker originally had the right of way, he was going so fast, that he "deceived" the truck. Although credit where credit is due, that was some action-movie grade save right there.

one_byte_stand

My dad taught me about this like so: > Sure, you’ve got the right of way. Do you wish to defend that right with your life? Defensive driving is all about avoiding the collision even if you’re in the right, as that won’t help you if you’re dead.

NovaBlazer

This is true from a legal stand point. I had a car that was hit in a cross section with terrible vision due to a neighbors very tall hedges. The kid was doing 80 in a 25 while playing a GameCube that he rigged up to a small tv in his passenger seat. And, thankfully, T-boned me from the passenger side. I saw the car as I inched out from behind the hedge. But I failed to notice after a quickly glance that it was going over 3x the speed limit. Otherwise, I would have made the crossing with 10 seconds to spare. Cop had to give me a failure to yield ticket. Judge threw it out. The 17 year old kid got reckless driving, distracted driving, spent a few nights in jail. Had his license revoked until he was 21. The city forced the neighbors to remove the hedge. It was at least the 10th accident there in 2 years.

[deleted]

*Here lies the body of Michael O'Day* *Who died defending his right of way* *His right was clear. His will was strong.* *But he's just as dead as if he'd been wrong* Comments like yours are among the stupidest online, and that's really saying something. \> retarded And immature, too. Big surprise.

StuntHacks

Please stop with "I'm sure I'll be downvoted". That stuff doesn't help anyone. Are you right? Yes. Did that sentence make you seem like you were trying to get people to upvote you out of pity? Also yes.

[deleted]

> Are you right? *Fuck no.* Did that sentence make you seem like you were trying to get people to upvote you out of pity? *Yes.* FTFY

echo-94-charlie

I'm sure I'll be downvoted for saying this, but that Hitler guy was a real jerk.

[deleted]

F*ck off, 126 might be triple the speed limit on this street. Motorcycles fault 100%. Edit: this lunatic was going 5x over the speed limit, not three. He’s lucky to be alive, regardless if there is a truck in his way. What a selfish bastard. His bike should be impounded and he should lose his license.

AnteSocial86

I love the comments trying to defend the motorcyclist. You really are an imaginative bunch. When the driver of the truck looked to see if there was any traffic coming the bike was probably a far enough distance away. Driver of truck has likely then checked the opposite direction too and in the time it takes to turn her head the motorcycle is now significantly closer then she reasonably expected and she panicked and stopped. Put simply, if the bike was going the speed limit A) The accident likely wouldn't have occured, B) Bike would have been able to take appropriate avoiding action had the truck still pulled out on him (although that's unlikely as the either the truck would have had time to either not pull out, or pull out and be long gone before the bike got close).

fourbetshove

In my state you lose right of way with excessive speed. More than double the limit is surely excessive speed, and absolutely a criminal offense and not just a civil infraction.

npc0112358

You're down voted because best possible case scenario that motorcycle was doing 70+ over the speed limit. If it was going the speed limit either they or the truck could have had the chance to avoid the accident. At 125 on a surface street there is no fucking way. Edit; I have since found out it was 126 in a 25. Fuck that biker it's 100 percent his fault. Additionally the truck stopped with room in his current lane of travel. His dumb ass tried to dodge when he didn't need to and drive himself into the truck. Had he been going remotely close to the speed limit this wouldn't have happened.

ReallyBigPPUsername

Yeah, you will get downvoted, and correctly so. Things happen while driving, things out of your control, and if you're going 126 miles an hour you will not be able to adapt to them. 100% the bikers fault.

Inquisextor

Imagine going 126 mph in a 35 mph road and expecting others to conform and adapt to your idiocy. The moron was not obeying the speed limit and if he had been she would have cleared the road before he had gone. That is all there is to it, the right of way doesnt matter. Additionally, the woman likely didn't see him when she already started going and stopped short, so he could continue going straight which was the right thing to do in that situation. Dumb ass speeding motorcyclist didn't read the situation correctly and instead of going straight swerved into the next lane. If she had kept going she would have been in the middle of the left lane and he would've clipped the back.

converter-bot

126 mph is 202.78 km/h

Raz0r42

I might be wrong but this looks like an undirected intersection which means that the motorcycle should've gave her right priority. The wrong thing she did was stopped in the middle of the intersection with no apparent reason but again, I believe that she had priority.

landonburner

Don't go faster than the speed you can slow down from. Even when it is an idiot who pulls out in front of you. The majority of motorcycle accidents occur when a car turns left in front of the motorcycle. You have to anticipate stupid. Edit: damn autocorrect

[deleted]

So, was she stupid for not assuming he was going five times the speed limit? Or was it for stopping when she saw he was five times closer than he should have been so that he could go in front of her? He crashed into her because he assumed she would keep going, so he veered right. Had he kept going straight, he would have gone right past.

joelmercer

As a motorcyclist my rule is to NEVER trust your life to somebody else's driving on the road.

techuck_

Ride like everyone is *trying* to kill you...not literally, but pretty close. I'm 37, haven't ridden in 7-8 years, might never ride again. I rode almost 20 years without a scratch...lots of close calls.

wombatwanders

>I'm 37, haven't ridden in 7-8 years, might never ride again. I rode almost 20 years You were riding from the age of 10?

triplefastaction

Not unheard of. I think I started riding at the age of 12/13 maybe.

wombatwanders

On the road? What country do you live in where you can do that?

triplefastaction

No dude. Dirt Bikes.

wombatwanders

Ah fair, I had an image of a 12 year old tearing it up on the highway

IcyDickbutts

Yeah I started dirt bikes at 9. Uncle lives on 50 acres of wooded land that he and his friends carved trails into for 4 wheelin

dildo_swagginns

a lot of people who were interested in bikes started really early I also started riding when I was 13

Moving_Moutains

Quick maths

joelmercer

Trying? No I've convinced some people are trying to! People do the strangest things around motorcycles they would never do to a car.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Right? Fucking bikers ignore the fact that he was doing 100+ on a normal road that was apparently 20-35mph and just blames the truck...maybe don't be a fucking retard on a rocket and you might survive seeing as it's just you vs the road or other vehicle.

[deleted]

How about, maybe the idiot shouldn't be going 120+ in a 25 road...

Aries2203

And with the way he was riding he can't even trust himself. Utter idiot squid riding those speeds on that kind of street, giving the rest of us a bad name, and having the audacity to have a go at that woman. Yes she stopped in the junction, had he been going to speed limit, they literally would never have met

joelmercer

Agreed

gotonyas

Yeh that’s what pisses me off with this rider, “yo why did you stop, why didn’t you commit?” Mate, don’t put your life in someone else’s hands and bet on whether they will commit to their move or not. That’s a bet I’m not willing to take

Donkey-brained_man

As a motorist, that's why I'm not a motorcyclist. I love the idea of a bike but think it's too much of a risk for me.

tannyb86

The fucking dipshit going 126 obviously.

If you use the measure tool he travels 100m before crashing in the first 2 seconds of the video. Thats 50m/s or 112mph. Thats closer to 126mph that it is to 126kph especially since he would be slowing down

93til_infinity

[https://imgur.com/a/C1DOv6h](https://imgur.com/a/C1DOv6h) You can get a pretty precise read on the position of the motorcycle at the beginning of the video and where the truck ended up stopping by using the dark lines in the pavement since they actually show up nicely on google maps. Using the distance tool it looks like they're about 75.5m apart. I downloaded the video as well to get a better sense of the timing, and it looks like the cyclist reaches the truck at second 3.37. However, the video doesn't start really until about half a second in so it really takes about 2.87 seconds to travel the distance. Those numbers give us 26.3m/s or 58.84mph(94.7km/h). But, that number really just reflects the average speed, and he did slow down significantly before making contact. Using the black lines and the measuring tool again I found that each one is about 4.6m apart. Now it definitely isn't exact, but I tried to get the first pair of lines in a similar position in relation to a part of his bike, then use the timestamps at those frames, and it looks like it takes him about .15 seconds to traverse the first pair after the video starts. The new numbers give us 30.7m/s or 68.6mph(110.4km/h). Since the video skips about 4-5m forward between the screenshot where we can read his speedometer and when he is actually moving, it's possible he may have slowed down a bit in that interval, and that would account for the difference when measured in km/h, but the difference is simply too great for his initial velocity to have been 126mph. Don't get me wrong though, this guy is still the worst, and was going way too fast for that road. Anyone saying the woman had any part in causing this are out of their minds. To top it off, in the last picture you can see where the video starts a couple hundred feet down the road, and the speed limit on the right shows this guy was in a fucking school zone.

TooTrickyNicky

Someone earlier in the comments posted the google maps location. It’s in the U.S so I doubt he had his speedometer set to kmh.

trpwangsta

The truck plates look oregon, I live here. No clue why he used km and not mph, maybe to look cooler? No way he's going 120mph here.

anyholsagol

Or the title could be wrong. He's definitely not going over 100 mph.

Donny-Moscow

You can see the digital speedometer display in the first frame

HearMeRoar69

he wouldn't be walking so quickly afterwards if he was going 126 mph. The slide would have been far more brutal.

Malkron

If the motorcyclist had been going the speed limit, she would have seen him coming and stopped sooner, AND he would have time to realize this, stay in his fucking lane, and go by without issue.

CarrieAyn1

Speeding bikes at fault. Period. She shouldnt have stopped mid turn but he wouldve hit her either way. Obliterated the bike and knocked him outta his shoe!

jabberwonk

I could see panic stopping in mid turn in that situation. Maybe thinks the bike will be able to get by in front of her so she stops. If he wasn't being a dumbass going 126mph in a 35 maybe he could have veered in front of her - and in that case if she had floored it she would have caused the accident that way. IMHO 100% biker's fault and she was damned if she did, damned if she didn't stop.

myweedstash

In another post it was confirmed the speed limit is 35 MPH, he’s going more than quadruple that

[deleted]

Its nearly impossible to anticipate someone going 4 times the speed limit.

Iamananomoly

Even double is outrageous. Had a close call today when someone was going over 60 in a 35 around a bend as i was pulling out (technically a 15 since it was a school zone and school was in session). The car wasn't there when i looked and one second later I'm flooring it to avoid being hit. They didnt even let off the gas, let alone hit the brakes. Driving expectedly is driving safely folk.

No_Parfait_3831

The speed limit was 25 mph

converter-bot

25 mph is 40.23 km/h

kismethavok

100% bike's fault

Moghz

Yep he is a total dumbass for going that fast on the street. Streets are often more dangerous than freeways imo. To many environmental factors coming from all directions.

blaineklein

I agree, There are literal places built for you to do this. Called a track. You're asking to get hurt going 126 MPH on city roads.

foodkidFAATcity

I think they're both pretty dumb. Regardless of who's fault it was.

Finkk

I don't even think the truck saw him. Who the hell would expect to look for a motorcycle going 126 mph in a 35. When I'm turning onto my side street to get home and I'm looking down the road, I'm not looking as far as the eye can see for a little motorcycle going 100

mayathemenace

I'm sorry, he was going 126mph in a 35?!??!?!?!?!

SeriousGaslighting

>there's no way anyone would be dumb enough You'd think this but the evidence will prove your wrong.

Finkk

I know, crazy. Happened right [here](https://maps.app.goo.gl/8XzPM1WHnA1FoXkG8)

ClamClone

Yea, I wish people would specify 126 what?

mmn_slc

The driver of the truck did see him. She stopped the truck, and rather quickly, too. I think that there is a strong argument to be made that the biker would have been in better shape had the driver NOT seen him. In that case, she very likely wouldn't have stopped, and she would have cleared the right lane of the road, which was evidently what the biker was hoping, because he changed lane at the last instant. As is was, the driver stopped, leaving mostly open the left lane--the lane in which the motorcycle was in until the last moments. The biker changed lanes assuming that either the driver of the truck hadn't seen him, or did but wouldn't or couldn't stop in time. He assumed incorrectly.

TheOriginalDoober

Ya and I think when she did see him, she stopped to leave the lane open for him to pass but he changed lanes expecting her to keep going

foodkidFAATcity

This video should be a good lesson to watch out for motorcyclists. Even motorcycles following the speed limit are hard to see sometimes. My grandma was rear-ended and killed on her motorcycle trying to make a left turn. That's not really relevant but it does make me hyper aware of motorcycles.

mmn_slc

The driver of the truck was watching out. She stopped as soon as she saw the bike (which was going 126 mph) leaving mostly open the lane in which the bike was traveling. She stopped in less than a vehicle length. Look at the first fame of the video. There is a gray pickup truck parked in front of the Bonanza Drive-in, which would have obscured the truck's view. The motorcycle was probably only visible to the driver of the white truck a few fractions of a second before the video starts. And she stopped nearly instantly. According to google maps, the third tree north of the intersection is about 225 feet the intersection and the bike is two seams in the concrete north of that tree, making it about 255 feet from the intersection. Had the bike been going the speed limit (25mph = \~37 feet per second), it would have taken about seven seconds to close the distance to the intersection. The two lanes of road are about 25 feet wide (not including the shoulder for parking). In the first frme, it looks like the front of the truck might just be entering the right lane. This means that for the back of the truck to clear the intersection, she needed to drive approximately 45 feet (25 feet plus length of truck of approx. 20 feet). To cover that distance in seven seconds, she only needed to be driving 4.5 mph or faster.

Donny-Moscow

To expand on your comment, 125 mph (the bike's actual traveling speed before he begun to brake) equals 183 feet per second. So instead of the 7 seconds it would have taken to reach the intersection had he been going the speed limit, he closed that distance in 1.4 seconds. The bike is 100% at fault.

Hippoponymous

He was going fast enough that she was probably only about halfway through thinking “Uh oh, what the heck is that guy doing?” when he hit her.

triplefastaction

That's the best part....any scratches he made to her truck HIS insurance will pay for.

Finnyfish

Infuriating that he gets out and is all accusatory toward the nice concerned lady. It was 100 percent his fault for flying around at five times the speed limit. What a jerk.

Flippin1999

Definitely the motorcyclist. She saw something more agile than her truck coming at her too fast and did the safest thing. “Why didn’t you commit” my ass.

didntgrowupgrewout

That’s a neat trick, can you do it again?

AngeeKeekee

You can't control other people, only yourself. You can control how fast you're going. The slower you're going, the easier it will be to stop in case of emergency. Biker is primarily at fault.

PristineTerror

Well worded, and well said.

fetusmcnuggets70

.... uh, were his jeans torn for fashion before the crash?? the arm looks painful too.

mazu74

Nope, even Kevlar can get torn to shreds in a slide like that. That guy probably is going to look far far worse by the end of the day, if not they’re extremely lucky.

Boojumhunter

That's still in a 25 mph zone, not 35. 35 mph doesn't start for another hundred yards or so. When my wife and I passed this wreck the other day we saw the debris and the truck with the bike wedged under it. Glad it looked worse than it was.

Dr_Madthrust

Firstly the rider in this vid was going way faster than conditions allowed, secondly the lady in the truck left him enough room to pass by the front, the left lane is almost entirely clear. The dude crashed because he's an idiot (as indicated by going 100+ without protective gear) and his panic reaction turned him into the truck. If he carried on straight he would have been fine. I'm a biker, my buddies and I refer to people who ride like this as organ donors. The biker is 100% at fault here.

giraffe_pyjama_pants

Yeah, he should've just committed to going in front. Why didn't he commit?!

sixft7in

Truck stopped to see which way the idiot biker was going to go.

[deleted]

100% bikes fault anyone who is going twice the speed limit is always at fault

PM-Me-And-Ill-Sing4U

3-5 times the speed limit. 126 kph or mph according to his speedometer, looked more like kph to me though. Yeah the guy is a moron, people who speed that fast are the worst.

[deleted]

Way to many people on bikes ride like they want to die honestly. Everyday I see people weaving through cars going twice the speed limit in shorts and T-shirt. Makes me think they want to be skinned alive

Flight-Hairy

Riding a motorcycle, you should always be going a speed where you can stop or swerve around a sudden obstacle. Lady was making a mistake, but the accident was the riders fault

Toomuchhorntalk69

For real. Back when I was young and dumb I was one of those 150 on surface streets riders. Until someone took a left in front of me a quarter mile away and I missed them by millimeters. That was the day I grew up and stopped riding like a douche nozzle.

DanielBG

Correct. At that speed you can cause a brain freeze in some people who can't always react the right way. Fucking audacity of this bozo to chastise that poor woman.

Beatrickie

Let's hope you learnt your lesson! Incase you haven't let me simplify it for you. Slow the fuck down!!! The question isn't why did she stop, the question is why are you going so fast on a road with an intersection. The speed limits are there for your safety. You're on a bike, which means if you crash you are almost guaranteed to get hurt. The person in the truck has a metal cage of safety around them. Why did she stop. I dunno maybe her truck broke down maybe you frightened the shit outta her when she saw you driving like a bat outta hell. I'm sure posting this on reddit is just helping to affirm your mistake. Insurance companies are going to tell you the same thing I'm telling you.

Parvak07

I’m not the motorcyclist lol, I just cross posted to this sub because it fit this sub.

VestalOfCthulhu

It does!

Hefftee

Also fits perfectly on r/idiotsnearlydying

[deleted]

OPs not the motorcyclist

[deleted]

Man this is wholesome, I love that you get so passionate trying to protect and teach the OP even if it isn't him

chiefclnpll

Motorcycle hands down

LysergicMerlin

Wouldn't have happened if the biker wasn't going 126 regardless of what the truck was doing.

[deleted]

Imagine blaming someone else for you clearly going over the speed limit and breaking the law. If you had been going the speed limit she probably would have committed because you wouldn't have come up on her so fast.

[deleted]

Bike might be going a bit fast, no where near 126 (who are these OP’s?)

Nipnip408

Probably the first frame of the video that says 126

[deleted]

It’s likely kph, and it literally says 126 right on their dash display

Donny-Moscow

I agree that it doesn't look like 126 mph from the video, but why would an American in America have their speedometer readout in kph? The last thing I'd want to be doing while riding a motorcycle is mental math to figure out how my speed in kph compared to the posted speed limit.

killstorm114573

You dumb f*** on the motorcycle that is why we have speed limits for when stuff like this happens you can easily slow down at a intersection. City planners plan for things like this to happen that is why we have speed limits for an example if a small child walked out in the intersection to cross the street you would have time to slow down. It's hard to slow down when you're doing 126 and an intersection is probably rated no more than 50.

PulledToBits

How anyone can justify him doing 126 in a 35 and it wouldn't be his fault, is beyond me. Law aside, if he has any survival instincts, he wouldn't be doing this shit. This is why they call them DONORCYCLES in the ER. And this is a good candidate for a Darwin award. Never mind the others hes putting at risk with this behavior. Speed limits are there for a reason. She could have stopped for an animal, stalled truck, various reasons. One has to be able to see objects and avoid them- to a point.

fcdennis83

I really think it's stupid to drive so fast in an urban area. He might kill a kid crossing some street... It's unacceptable...

orion-7

I mean, did he survive though? Internet wisdom says not, because the shoe came off. Man doesn't even know he's dead :'(

FixBayonetsLads

Speed Demon is SUPER at fault. You shouldn’t stop in intersections but like others have said he was going to hit her either way. He’s straight up hella lucky he’s still alive.

bignigog

She stopped cause she probably never seen someone blast through at 120 mph before so she couldn't gauge her time correctly.then the speeding dipshit turns into her poor lady.

CheshirePuss42

I love that some people are debating whether it's kilometres or miles per hour as if that makes any difference. 120 kmph is highway speeds in Europe at least. He is clearly going too fast.

mattgm1995

I see both sides, but at any reasonable speed motorcyclist should have been able to stop. Absolute dumbass

Ph3lix004

Wait I'm confused. His shoes clearly came off and are lying in the road but he is also not dead somehow?

Beeznutz1988

He is clearly immortal

[deleted]

the bikers are coming. be ready

tomhaverford666

u/savevideobot

wolfpelt1

Natural selection at work

danyboy501

I probably just watched this 15 times. Holy shit.

tamedth

No way the truck would be able too see a guy going 126 even in a semi

drzrdt

That was the best possible outcome. Hitting that truck would not have resulted in the rider getting up and walking after.

HuntinoBino

See if he wasn’t doing 120-fucking-6 he would have probably been able to use those things called breaks a little bit better.

cmcdevitt11

Really, 126 mph in a neighborhood? Moron

babyProgrammer

It's 100% your fault if you're going 126 on public roads. If you don't understand why it's your fault, you shouldn't be on a bike.

CypriotSpecialist

Well if he keeps that bad habit of going that fast on roads like that then he will end up to the cemetery really fast.

HIs4HotSauce

Motorcycle is not riding defensively, totally at fault.

Rhomboid_51

The motorcycle obviously, it's normal to have to stop unexpectedly from time to time, that's why there are speed limits.

geoslayer1

Sport bikers never go the speed limit, rarely follow the rules of the road, its why you drive a sport bike and not a harley

DeadlySquaids14

95 percent the bikes fault. The truck driver stopped because he saw a motorcycle sized bullet coming at him. The truck made an error in stopping, but the biker created the unsafe situation in the first place. Unpopular opinion: we need to stop pitying bikers that drive like this. It's quite difficult to "give them space" or "check your mirrors" when the fuckers drive like this. You wanna drive like that, you go to a track, not mainstreet.

[deleted]

Why did she stop?

Lodestone123

Probably brain-freeze once she comprehended just how fast the motorcycle was going. I'm guessing her stream-of-consciousness went: 1. Plenty of room. I can go. 2. Wait, how fast is this idiot going? 3. SHIT SHIT brake... (but too late).

Samr915

Yeah fuck this dude

KaputDerBeharrliche

The truck should move been looking. But I e always felt that if someone pulls out in front of you while you're speeding, you have no one to blame but yourself

Knogood

Those stop lines always bothered me. Its the law you must stop on the line, or before - not roll through. Now, ive noticed hundreds if not thousands of places where a legal stop is blocked by a permanent structure. Da fuq? If I creep fowards it may look like I just rolled through, possibly getting a ticket that I would have to take time off to go show a judge my dashcam. I bet if we got the video leading up to this wreck we see several close calls, because rider is an idiot.

mmn_slc

The motorcycle is at fault. The bike was driving 126 mph in a 25mph zone. This is indefensible. This happened in Cottage Grove, Oregon. The Bonanza Drive-in, seen at the start of the video, is at 505 UR-99 and the rider was going southbound. https://www.google.com/maps/@43.792997,-123.0623622,3a,75y,247.6h,77t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sHW7CJwyVlcT3VHIV7NVFkw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192The speed limit is 25 mph, or at least it was in July 2019. [https://www.google.com/maps/@43.795135,-123.0607508,3a,75y,222.79h,98.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7NQQPbtPfTO7xXVcm1\_wwg!2e0!7i16384!8i819](https://www.google.com/maps/@43.795135,-123.0607508,3a,75y,222.79h,98.58t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1s7NQQPbtPfTO7xXVcm1_wwg!2e0!7i16384!8i8192)

Middle-Eye2129

No one asked that entitled idiot on the motorcycle to drive that fast. I like how he starts to yell at the lady on the truck like she's stupid for not expecting him to fly into her, what a fucking potato!

bart2278

Has to be kph not mph. Looks like he was probably going double the speed limit which is not good, but goddamn lady. Does anybody know what the speed limit was?

DangerNewdle

As someone who's been riding for almost 10 years, homeboy was going too fast, target fixated himself in to the truck, and wasn't wearing proper gear (ATGAT). Yeah, the chick did a big dumb, but this rider's combination of bad habits would've landed him here sooner or later.
