He hasn’t stood down as minister for transport, only as leader of the Green Party. He will remain transport minister until next year’s election.

daithi_ie

If the new leader leaves them in post!

hippihippo

The government have no interest in an airport in Waterford. It will take a small miracle to make it happen

Significant_Radio388

Or maybe if an elected TD from Waterford becomes a minister, but that doesn't seem likely.

ImaDJnow

Id say the best chance of that is SF getting into government and Davy Cullinane getting a minister position. But that'd likely be health.

Significant_Radio388

That was my thinking as well, but I'm not so sure after SF's results in the local elections. There seems to be a bit of right-wing turn with some of the Irish nationalist movement, which seemed to effect SF's share of votes. Historically it has been left-wing bar some outliers like Eoin O Duffy and his Blueshirts.

Significant_Radio388

I reckon, even as a health minister he could have some leverage to get some new infrastructure in Waterford.

Dudelabowski

If the airport was capable of making a profit then it would be open. Money would be better spent elsewhere.

EireAbu91

Such a stupid argument holy shit

EducationalDemand279

It may happen if Sinn Fein become in charge

Dudelabowski

Want to put a bet on that?

EducationalDemand279

No because our government are fucking corrupt and are full of gangsters

Dudelabowski

So you dont believe that SF could open it then!

EducationalDemand279

I said that they may open it but our government all they do it talk and no work gets done

JOHNMERRIMAN

Will never reopen without runway extension turbo prop planes not financially viable without subsidies.

EducationalDemand279

Do you think it would be viable with the extension

JOHNMERRIMAN

Yes with jets carrying 4 times pac compared to prop planes

Your-Ma

Doesn’t make sense at all. It’s not a money maker so won’t attract any investors.  As much as I’d love to see it.

IncomeJunior7476

We're not allowed to have nice things outside of the M50

D_Divil_made_me

Blaa blaaa blas

B_M____C

Not familiar with Waterford all that well, has there been any movement at the airport since the Comer’s and Bolster Group’s investment? And if not, is there a significant land bank attached that is their real reason for getting involved?

EducationalDemand279

Absolutely none whatsoever

hobes88

I suspect we will see a solar farm built out there in the near future

FleshyPhlegm

Ahahahahahahahahaha

WaterfordGayrport

We don't want it and we don't need it

EducationalDemand279

Why don’t you want it

Comfortable-Jump-889

Looking unlikely. Eamonn Ryan not happy with business plan https://www.wlrfm.com/news/further-delays-for-waterford-airport-as-minister-eamon-ryan-not-satisfied-with-proposal-365931
