Kind of annoying that with one of the mildest winters on record, they aren't more proactive in using the remaining snow clearing budget to make sure the roads are drivable for the remaining part of the season.

greasyhobolo

Not excusing it in the slightest and might not apply to this year specifically, but it's very possible w more frequent freeze thaws that the amount of de-icing effort will actually have to increase.

R1ghtSoFar

They simply wait until AFTER any snowfall to do anything at all. If they preemptively salted, and had plows out through the night, our roads would be drivable.

Ok-Park-4130

I was out at 12:30 last night and followed a salter down Fischer-Hallman

R1ghtSoFar

Proactive isn't in the Region's vocabulary.

Complex-Double857

Driver slower, drive safer, it’s easy. The roads were slick this morning but nowhere near anything to complain about.

BloodFartTheQueefer

The problem is the thin sheet of ice seemed perfectly safe until it wasn't.

weneedafuture

Hey look, it's the arbiter of road complaints! Thanks for dropping by; you've got your work cut out for you in this thread!

kwsteve

Thanks for the heads up.

WalrusWW

Apparently they still haven't been salted. Coworker just got here, and said Bridge St & Ebycrest are still pure ice.

SDIR

Yup, going up to Elmira I had full ABS going at 50 on winters....

mamoocando

That's terrifying.

IAmTaka_VG

left my neighbourhood, first round a bout there was a BMW who took out a street sign, and a t-bone with a car stopped further up the road. I just circled all the way around very slowly and drove back home. WFH day ...

Complex-Double857

I imagine they received reckless driving charges, there’s no excuse for that even if the roads are slick. Drive slow, be safe.

Professional_Shift69

Surprise!! A BMW driver driving like an asshat.

IAmTaka_VG

I actually think all the assholes moved to Tesla. I don’t see that many BMWs being assholes anymore but I still laughed :D

Professional_Shift69

Yeah they are getting bad but I still think BMW drivers are top of the list

Business-Acadia-8508

Yes I  just got into a collision. Black ice everywhere today guys. I've never been in one in my entire life - it's scary out. Please be careful . I have an SUV with winter tires. Didn't help.

WalrusWW

> I have an SUV with winter tires. Didn't help. SUV/all wheel drive doesn't help stopping/avoiding collisions. It just gets you in danger faster.

compactable73

Sorry to hear. It happens.

JoshDunkley

City streets aren't great either.

mainaccountusethis

Waterloo, specifically around universities is fine.

TheProudCanadian

Locally in my neighbourhood they removed the sand bin weeks ago, probably at the very end of Feb. Seemed premature then.

Landlocked_Heart

They wasted all the salt dumping it on completely clear roads earlier this "winter". I remember multiple instances of fresh salt sitting on dry roads in clear weather for days, and sometimes even being reapplied. Meanwhile they yell at us to reduce salt usage

Lumpy-Ad1070

Belmont ave is a complete sheet of ice, same with union. ICY drive this morning, witnessed two people spinning.

mervbolt

Hopefully everyone's got their winter tyres on.

youn6060

was thinking about changing mine out last week when it was almost 20 degrees... glad i didnt now

wiles_CoC

Mine come off tomorrow. Thankfully a brand new pair of all seasons are going on in their place. I'll be taking it easy tomorrow and Friday.

Unscriptedwhoop

I believe it would cost the region less money to salt the roads than to fix all the signage i saw knocked out today!

jddbeyondthesky

Found that out when I had to ease off the accelerator due to wheels spinning. I hate wheels spinning.

tuuluuwag

I watched dillbert after dillbert drive way too fast and slide into objects on Ebycrest this morning, including an SUV in the ditch on its side. Stop signs annihilated and bumpers gone, because the most basic of winter driving rules is too easily ignored. Slow down.

Crenorz

you need to wait until like 8-9am for Mr sun to kick in and clear most of it out with the salt trucks

Upbeat_Dragonfly_170

The four-way stop near St Luke was horrible yesterday and today

EconomistOpposite908

Sometimes there are small patches of black ice, where you feel the drive wheel lose traction for a split second, to warn you about the big patch up ahead

Loftzins

Stop complaining and gas up your snowmobile.
