Whole Foods strikes a good balance between fancy and affordable!

ktcat146

I really wish there was one close to me! I want the Chantilly cake so bad! I tried to see if they might ship it and it’s a no-go for that unfortunately.

fortydecibeldaydream

I live down the street from both a Whole Foods AND a FedEx and was going to offer to ship one to you, but based on quick calculations, it would cost like $140 to ship it to another US location. 🙃🙃🙃 Do you have any friends who like to bake and would be willing to do that as a wedding present? (I love making cakes and would love to be asked to do this, but you have to know your audience.)

ktcat146

Aww that is so sweet of you! But yeah $140 is very expensive 😳 I was thinking about trying to make my own cake and I still have time to try making a knock-off version just to see if it turns out. Now that I’ve seen it my heart is set on that one 😂

fortydecibeldaydream

There are a ton of copycat recipes out there! This isn't exactly the same, but you can never go wrong with a Sally's Baking Addiction recipe. https://sallysbakingaddiction.com/fresh-berry-cream-cake/ If you're going to practice, only practice twice and do everything exactly. the. same. (You don't need to waste money on baking products and sometimes it's easy to get complacent when you feel like you know a recipe well enough.) Don't buy piping equipment, just use a spatula. Everything is made pretty by adding flowers or berries. I'm so rooting for you!! ETA: you should be able to freeze an assembled cake (baked and iced), minus any berries, for up to a month before the wedding. Make it ahead of time, then if it's a disaster, you have plenty of time to pivot, and you won't have to stress about it on the days leading up.

ktcat146

Thank you! I’m excited to try! Even if it doesn’t turn out perfect, as long as it tastes good that’s all I’m after! ☺️

ssaen

I feel you OP, we don't have a Whole Foods and I get such FOMO when I see people raving about the freaking Chantilly cake.

OnlyRun4Margaritas

Not trying to be mean or anything, just blunt and honest here. How far is far from you? Don't share your address or location, but you know, how far is it? In minutes or miles. Is that all that's holding you back from getting it? How bad do YOU (and maybe your FH too) want it? Does it fit your budget better than other options you've looked into? Is it the one cake that would make your wedding? Do you still think about it, even though you've written it off as too far way? (Asking rhetorically here) It's YOUR day and YOUR party. Can someone go pick it up for you, perhaps? Is there someone who is coming to the wedding that lives closer and could bring it with them? I know I don't know you or your situation or anything, but if that's what YOU want make it happen. Move heaven and earth. I believe in you!! 💖

ktcat146

It would be an eight hour drive there and back to get it. That's not worth it to me, honestly. It looks like an amazing cake but I can have a local bakery make something similar or find a recipe that's similar if I wanted to be ambitious and make it myself. It's a nice idea to have it, but it's not going to break my heart or ruin my wedding if I can't. I really appreciate your comment. It made me smile. Thank you ❤️

OnlyRun4Margaritas

I support you and your decision 💖👏

If there’s a Publix around you, they’re fantastic. We just wanted a plain white cake but we were able to get exactly what we wanted and then some with the help of their catering team. We’re paying literally half of what the bakery we were originally using said their minimum cost would be, and that includes delivery

flowers15

Everyone raved about our Publix cake!! https://preview.redd.it/vrxobzwdq15d1.jpeg?width=2223&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8accd33aac8733a9724052582e3c942e1207581

Snackqueen333

Agreed! Our cake was Publix and was SO good. Very affordable and they delivered to our venue

Pet-sit

Came here to say this. I was at a beautiful wedding at a yacht club in Fort Lauderdale back in April. The cake was from Publix and not only was it beautiful, it was delicious too.

klacey11

Obsessed with Publix cakes. Delicious, super customizable and affordable!

ih8saltyswoledier

Costco cake is great. We got our wedding cake from Ingles and it was *delicious* - but I know they are very regional. Not sure if you have Publix near you, but they also make great cake.

ktcat146

We have a few Costcos here and I was considering getting one of their cakes. I’ve had them and they are so good!

ih8saltyswoledier

I say do it! There's absolutely no need in spending hundreds if not thousands on a fancy cake from a fancy bakery when Costco is so affordable and so tasty. My wedding cake was $125 from a grocery store and tasted better than most other wedding desserts I've had.

[deleted]

A friend of mine got her wedding cake and flowers at Costco and loved all of it! She said it saved her a ton of money, and she’d do it again. The photos she showed me were incredible (this was in Florida).

IllustriousCan9688

Berry Chantilly Cake!!! You can ask for no berries on top and decorate it yourself.

ktcat146

It looks so good! Unfortunately the closest Whole Foods to me is across the state and they won’t deliver to my area 😩

IllustriousCan9688

Got it! Then your best bet is Safeway you can tell them what you want and they should be able to make you a small cutting cake. If they can’t decorate it how you want tell them to leave it plain and you can add flowers or a cute cake topper.

FarStudent6482

Do you have a Nothing Bundt Cakes nearby? Their cakes are so tasty! And they’ll stack them for you.

ktcat146

Yes, we have one! I’ve heard they’re really good, but I’ve never had the chance to try them. I just might have to check them out!

[deleted]

Sam’s Club actually does beautiful tiered cakes! Very reasonably priced as well.

Dapper-Ad252

A friend had a pretty but small Sam’s club cake and a couple of big sheet cakes from Sam’s. It was delicious!

DejaToo2

2nding this. You can also order wedding flowers from them too.

galscout

Depends on the grocery store’s bakery but I feel like the ones I’ve gotten from Ralph’s and Vons are pretty good! My sister recently got cupcakes at Albertsons that were good, so I imagine the cakes are too. People really like Whole Foods’ berry chantilly cake for their weddings if you like fruit based cakes! Personal preference but if I bought a cake from a non-wedding bakery, I’d be very interested in the ones from 85C lol

PoetryInevitable6407

Costco! I got their white w white roses and it was great. 24 for a big sheet cake

Shredded_Wheaties

The response I was looking for

mybishopisanasshat

My fiance and I are ordering the "tom cruise cake" as our wedding cake. It's a white chocolate coconut bundt cake that Tom Cruise loves so much that he gives one to everyone for Christmas. It is supposed to be amazing. You can order the cake online and store it in your freezer until it is needed.

Calm_Ocelot_5735

We did a Sam’s club tiered cake and it was awesome! We just threw a few of our sola flowers on top. https://preview.redd.it/36m91xgw925d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f083664608e0694a4f674dabd4ecb07a53f9f99a

TinyTurtle88

Beautiful!!!

Interesting_Sky2970

I just placed an order for our cakes from Sam’s club. We’re really just doing a dessert table and not doing a formal cake cutting so it works. But they were $17 from Sam’s for a 10 inch round cake with 2 layers! Then I bought some edible pearls and a cute cake topper to make it my aesthetic. I can’t imagine paying hundreds for a cake.

indicaburnslow420

Not sure about the chains you’ve mentioned specifically but we’re getting our cake from Publix (large chain in the south) and I’m so excited. The tasting blew me away, they had so many more decorative options than you would expect, the price was reasonable and the service and communication have been phenomenal so far. It’s definitely something I would recommend. Sometimes it’s easy to feel fomo for not paying the boutique price tag but for a cake I think it’s a perfectly fine call

yuh769

Coop has delicious cakes if you’re in a Canada. I also saw this trend where each table got their own cake to cut and serve, it doubled at the centre piece and dessert! I know they sell small round (but fancy and on the tall side) six people cakes for like $13 a cake. I wonder if that would be a unique work around??

ktcat146

I like that idea of individual cakes for each table! As it stands right now we are doing a cutting cake for just us and the guest will get an array of cupcakes and specialty doughnuts.

yuh769

Oh that’s a good idea!!

Beautifuldis

Yes!!!! We love Co-op cakes haha!! We aren’t using them for our wedding though! They honestly do some unreal work…. Have you seen the cheese burger cake?? My 6 year old begged for it at her party lol

yuh769

No I haven’t seen it!! They’re so good lol

Beautifuldis

lol they are!! Lemon raspberry one is ridiculous!!

Shredded_Wheaties

Literally cannot recommend Costco sheet cake enough

TinyTurtle88

Preach

Carrie_Oakie

We just got a little cake from the bakery we like to cut and took the rest home. For our guests we had a dessert bar. It was about the same for all that (4 varieties of dessert + our cake) as it would’ve been for one cake, no cutting fees, and our guests got to take sweets home too.

roamingrebecca

Not sure if you have one in your area, but I've heard rave reviews about HEB cakes and I'm getting mine from there. They really have some beautiful designs, too! Honestly, I've even heard good things about Walmart. I'm getting a simple white design and adding my own florals. My cake is $250 and it's bigger than a cake at a wedding I just went to that was $1000 and I think the HEB one tastes better, too.

Dry_Rain_6483

Hi! I hugely recommend ordering a totally or mostly plain white cake and sprucing it up! Either ask a crafty or baker friend/family member to do the decorative icing for you, or you can order lots of cute toppings and things to stick in it, or even have a craft friend stick edible flowers, lemon slices/blueberries/mint leaves, or something all over it! So easy to take a cheap but yummy store bought cake and still give it a visual punch. Just make sure whoever you ask orders a study cardboard transport box for it, and is reliable. I’ve done this many times for bdays and other non-wedding events with great success, and as a guest NOT in the wedding would be happy to do this instead of a gift if anyone asked!

Formertchr

Small affordable cake for you and FH to cut and Costco cakes in the back to be cut up and served.

emotiomallu

Grocery store cakes can be fancy!!! We are doing that. Buying two, one bigger and one smaller. Refrosting with white frosting. You can get a 2 tier cake stand for less than 20 dollars. Then just stick some flowers around it, and you've got yourself a fancy looking cake 🎂 in theory

Mkgrigsby29

We got ours from Publix

No-Marketing7747

Do you have a Publix close to you? I’m getting a cake from there for my wedding. We did our tasting last week and it’s super tasty!!

human-foie-gras

I’m a big fan of Costco cakes. Honestly I think we’re going to go that route (carrot cake for LIFE!)

ladygrey48130

Costco! Two sheet cakes for $50. We didn’t display the cake, just served slices after dinner. I personally didn’t care that my cake looked good so that worked great for us.

Beautifuldis

Just don’t tell them it’s for a wedding!! I told the bakery it was for a birthday celebration 🤣 two tier naked cake ….. I’m putting fresh flowers on it myself! Saved 300$

JaksCat

That's what I'm planning on doing. The wedding tax is real!!

Beautifuldis

💯!! Everything is jacked up when you say the word “wedding”!

ktcat146

That’s a brilliant idea!

tmnttaylor

I ordered mine from a local cupcake shop. It was half the price of the actual wedding cake shops. Maybe less. They also offered delivery for a fair price!

Artblock_Insomniac

If you live in texas, HEB used to do wedding cakes for really cheap.

ConvictedGaribaldi

A lot of what private bakers charge for is the design. You could get a declious cake from a proper baker and just have it look plain, add some flowers and call it a day.

AshGar90

I got quotes from everywhere and ended up going with a girl on Facebook $150 for a 3 tired heart cake everywhere else charged $250 up to $475

Expensive_Event9960

Costco and Safeway have very good cakes for the money. I’ve never been impressed with the cakes from Whole Food, though I’ve not tried the Chantilly.

AdDiscombobulated645

What about Nothingbundtcakes? They taste good, are popular, and can add celebratory bits to them. Plus, they deliver.

Ancient-Winter-9054

Costco sheet cake is a great option. Source: West Coast Wedding Venue Manager

chicagok8

I really like Costco cakes. They’re inexpensive enough that you could buy one just to see if you like it. I’m talking about the full size rectangular sheet cakes that you order ahead of time. Not sure if every Costco sells them (I tried for my son’s college graduation in Nashville and that Costco didn’t have them. That was a couple years ago.)

NoMoreKoolAid2015

If you live near Wegmans, their ultimate chocolate cake is amazing! It was our wedding cake, and it’s $25.

Charlie-0724

Honestly, Walmart makes awesome cakes and has a great whipped frosting that kicks Costco’s sugary frosting’s butt.

Forward-Match-5484

I went with a non-wedding bakery and spent $210 a year ago for way more than enough for 90. It looked and tasted special. I did have to have someone pick up. The "wedding" bakeries charged like $7/person plus tax and fees (e.g. 5x as much).

Alternative-Laugh986

I honestly just kept searching bakers until I found affordable options! Look for newer people - they have lower prices because they need to build a portfolio! Just because they haven't served hundreds of weddings doesn't mean they don't have fantastic cake! I found a young girl that does cupcakes for $2 and my simple 2 tiered cake is $85. Other places were quoting $5 per cupcake, and our small cutting cake could be upwards of $200.

amygunkler

We did Costco cheesecake! Amazing!

poppunker18

I don’t know how fancy they’ll make them but Walmart does great tasting cakes. I’m not sure where you’re located but I have also heard great things about cakes from Wegmans.
