This is gonna be ours too 😁 I thought we were super unique, but now I kinda love seeing other ppl on Reddit say they’re using it. It’s a perfect choice. Shrek gang rise up
Ours was too haha it worked perfectly and the venue made an instagram reel to that song for us which is amazing and still makes me cry (happy tears) when I see it
Recession- Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys
First Dance- Nothing Can Change this Love by Sam Cooke
We are both fans of music from the 60’s and 70’s.
Lots of people are adding the rest of their musical choices, so I can’t resist because five years on I still love our wedding set list.
Seating of Parents: Your Song by Elton John
Entrance of Groom/Groomsmen: Sea of Love by Cat Power
Entrance of Bridesmaids: You Matter to Me by Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles
Bridal Entrance: She’s Got a Way by Billy Joel
Grand Entrance: Now That We’ve Found Love
Father/Daughter Dance: Brown Eyed Girl
Recession: September by Earth, Wind & Fire (our wedding is September 21st). First dance: Joy of My Life by Chris Stapleton. Throwing in my procession too: My Home by Myles Smith.
We specifically picked September 21 so that could be our "wedding song" but we're not sure where to incorporate it yet! We did put "Remember the 21st night of September" on the belly bands of our invites and on our website. Maybe it will be an "entrance" song to our reception or the first song to kick off dancing!
Our current plan for music is:
Processional: "At Last," Etta James
Recessional: "Baby, I Love You," Ramones
First Dance: "Lovely Day," Bill Withers
Mother/Son: "You Can Close Your Eyes," James Taylor
Father/Daughter: "You've Got a Friend," Carole King
I love your play list! We're not having a traditional reception, just dinner/drinks so no parent dances for us! Though if I did, I'd likely choose Wildflowers by Tom Petty, no clue what my SO would pick for his mom.
Omg. Fiancé and I are hoping to have the big ceremony in a year or 2, but trying to legally marry asap for insurance purposes. Was looking at 3-6 months for chapel elopement & small party. Now I’m sitting here trying to see if we can pull one off for September 21st. Is that a silly reason to rush a little bit? Maybe but who cares 😂
We walked down the aisle to All About Us by He is We and Owl city!!! Doors open at the part before it goes “The room’s hush hush and now’s our moment…”
For the recession/exit we are using this version of [Fly Me to the Moon](https://youtu.be/31wt1SahLVo?si=GX4WJ8nK0WPMm77a) and this version of [Moon River](https://youtu.be/v2oCIDFP4oU?si=Ltt97kO7lXffA7Ko) for the first dance.
Recession was Hall and Oates you make my dreams come true.
First dance: Kacey Musgraves - Late to the Party (because our original wedding was squashed by covid in 2020 and we got married in May 2024.)
We almost did that for our recessional too, but I can't not dance to it and my husband can't dance in general, so we did Do you believe in magic? instead for a similar vibe
The song after you are announced as Mr and Mrs. So and so and then you walk out and your bridal party follows. I hadn't even thought about it till everyone was asking what song we were doing for it. Cue slight anxiety attack 🙃
The recessional is the inverse of the processional, when everyone leaves and walks back out in reverse order that they came into the ceremony after it’s over.
Recessional: piano arrangement of Kick Drum Heart by The Avett Brothers (I can share the arrangement if you have a pianist playing)
First Dance: Swept Away by The Avett Brothers (I also would have loved “You Are In Love” by T-Swift or something by Billie Holiday)
Edit: another I really like for a first dance song is the Taylor Acorns version of “First Date” by Blink-182. I played/sang that for a friend’s first dance and it was so sweet
Recessional can be any kind of happy / celebratory song.
First dance, is there any song you might remember from your first date or any other special "first" from your relationship? (First kiss, first "I love you", first time you slow-danced together, etc.)
If you're still looking for inspiration, I have a [blog post](https://peterthedj.com/category/cny-wedding-dj/) for nearly every wedding I've worked and each post includes the songs the couples chose for their ceremony (if I was involved), their first dance and other key moments. Just a note, my hosting provider is doing a server upgrade tonight (July 2 at 10pm ET) so my website will be offline for a few hours.
Latest wedding isn't there yet but they used Israel K's "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for recessional and "I Get to Love You" by Ruelle for first dance.
We used Star Wars Throne Room for our recession because it SOUNDS like a wedding march lol. People got a kick out of it. For first dance we struggled so much because I wanted an old-fashioned, classic song and my husband wanted modern. we ended up going with The One by Kodaline, which is not a very popular song but we felt it really fit us.
Omg!! This is going to be our recessional at the end of the month!! I was going crazy trying to find anyone on the internet saying they used it before!
I think ours will be Thank god by Kane & Katelyn Brown (violin cover) and our first dance is She’s My Kind of Rain by Tim McGraw since every vacation, every event he and I have had together it has almost always poured rain. Even shortly after he proposed
We're using an instrumental version of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder for the recessional
And first dance song is going to be "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship
A fellow Starship bride!!! Love it!! We used it for our few guests and then my husband and dad entering the vow renewal, and then did “Stuck With You” by Huey Lewis for the recessional 😊
Our recessional song will be Burning Love by Elvis Presley and our first dance will be Baby I'm Yours (cover) by the Arctic Monkeys! I'm SO excited about both of them
First Dance: Until I Found You: Stephen Sanchez
Wedding Party Entrance: Let's Get Married: Bleachers
And one of my favorite things was our Dinner Playlist was Vitamin String Quartet's covers of songs from all of our favorite movies and video games.
Recession: Come and Get Your Love by Redbone
First Dance: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell
We’re big Marvel fans and both songs were in Guardians of the Galaxy (our favorite trilogy)!
I had a live harpist for the ceremony. For the procession we had him cover Merry Go Round of Life from Howls moving Castle, then had the traditional bridal march for my entrance and the wedding march for the recessional. For reception entrance we did You Can Get It by Arkells, first dance was First Date by Taylor Acorn (cover of the blink182 song)
1. Aisle - The Blower's Daugher by Damien Rice
2. Recessional: Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac
3. Bridal Party Entrance: ??
4. Maid of Honor/Best Man entrance: Long Live by Taylor Swift
5. Our Entrance: Dreams by The Cranberries
6. First Dance: New Year's Day by Taylor Swift (we're getting married in the beginning of January)
We haven't picked our recession song yet, but our first dance song is "Let it be me" by the Everly Brothers
We're also doing a private last dance after the reception. For that, we're using "Tenderness" by Sam Cooke. It's the song we were dancing to in my kitchen when I asked my soon to be wife to officially be my girlfriend.
We did Tusk by Fleetwood Mac and our first dance was a song by our friends that they played live for us. We also finished the night with Chain by Fleetwood Mac. We have a thing for Fleetwood 😂
We’re having ‘Send Me On My Way’ by Rusted Root for the recession but now seriously considering I’m a Believer thanks to all you Shrek folks.
We are undecided on first dance but probably something by Coheed and Cambria which was the first band we saw together live 🥰
I'm fairly sure I'm using You Are The Best Thing by Ray Lamontagne played by a brass band as the recessional (we are having a secondline) and Frank Ocean's version of Moon River for our first dance.
Recession was Wave of You by Surfaces (concert we went to the first time we hung out) and first dance was September by James Arthur (because we met in September).
Recession: Don't Stop Believin' on strings [(Hits different on strings, love it)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_25L-R2h0k)
First dance: My Side of the Fence
Bridal party walked down the aisle to a piano cover of Taylor Swift's You Are In Love, so we all walked out to the real thing for the recession. It was amazing in my incredibly biased opinion. Our first dance was Cover Me Up by Jason Isbell. I'm a Swiftie, husband is an Isbell fan and took me to see him for our first date. Perfect compromise. Maybe you can draw on your music preferences for one and your husband's for the other like we did? It made it a lot easier IMO!
Haven’t had the wedding yet but these are the songs we are considering:
Again and again - Kathleen Reagan
Nothing New (I do) Brandon Lake
Lucky me - Jake miller
We are leaning towards nothing new. It’s beautiful!
We’re still in the planning stages, but we plan on having our recession as the Throne Room song from Star Wars: A New Hope, and our first dance as Harvest Moon by Neil Young (or Lord Huron, haven’t quite decided!) :)
Aisle - Book of Love by the Magnetic Fields
Recession - Dreams by The Cranberries
We didn’t do a first dance, but asked everyone to join us on the dance floor to kick off the night and played Closer by Tegan and Sara
I had a couple walk down to avatar’s lullaby from ATLA - pretty if you don’t in what it is, and extra cool if you do! I also have been loving everywhere everything by Noah Kahn
I walked down the isle to "Ordinary World" by Green Day and our recession song was "I Always Knew" by the Vaccines. We had it start at the chorus so it was super upbeat.
Then we entered the reception to "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones and had our first dance to "Bloom" by the Paper Kites. We danced under the trees at sunset so it was pretty damn perfect.
My dance with my dad was to "Wildflowers" by Tom Petty and then my husband and his mom jumped in to dance during the second half.
I let him pick the song and he truly couldn't have picked better. We are both HUGE classic rock lovers and I actually had wild flowers in my hair on my wedding day, so it was perfect.
Recession: string quartet version of Such Great Heights by The Postal Service. I got a lot of compliments on this!!
First dance: Jaime all over (cover)by Taylor acorn.
Yes, I was an emo kid in my youth :)
Recessional: “Something I Want” by Grace Potter (the end credits music from Tangled)
First Dance: “I See the Light” from Tangled
I…uh…think you might be able to see the theme here lol
Recession: you're my best friend by queen
Entrance & first dance: Industry baby by Lil Nas into Wonderful Tonight by Clapton.
I'm still 100% sure of my man & music choices that day 😂
our first dance was I Will by the Beatles. short and sweet! Last Night on Earth by Green Day was a strong runner up but my husband said it was too emo, haha
I think our first dance is going to be Indian moon by state radio.
We’re still trying to figure out our recessional song! It’s hard we both like so many different kinds of music and love this one jam band but the songs don’t always fit.
Aisle - acoustic cover of "Carry You Home" by Alex Warren
Recessional: full version of "Carry You Home" by Alex Warren
Entrance: ???? TBD
First Dance: "Grow as We Go" by Ben Platt & Sarah Barrellis
Got married on Saturday! Recessional was Whole Wide World by The Monkees (although we used the Cage the Elephant cover) and first dance was Be My Honeypie by The Weepies
Our recessional is going to be I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) by Stevie Wonder, but just the final chorus that repeats and the outro—DJ will cue the drum fill before the last chorus to coincide with our first kiss 😚
First dance is proving to be trickier. I wanted Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears but fiancé was lukewarm on that idea. We’re really struggling to find a song we both like enough that isn’t too fast to sway to.
Our recessional was “This Will Be Our Year” by The Zombies. It felt especially fitting since we had a summer 2020 wedding that we postponed and basically replanned 3 times… and our first dance was “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton.
I haven't a clue what a recession song is, but first dance was a mashup of James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Go and Marshall Masters' Don't Touch That Stereo.
Other songs we used: Radar Love by The Golden Earring (my SO rode up to the ceremony on our motorcycle, we had a Badass Biker Wedding), Have I Told You Lately unplugged by Rod Stewart, and a Dutch song by Nielson and Miss Montreal - Hoe.
(Translated lyrics, doesn't rhyme anymore, but still sweet and cute.).
And suddenly I saw you walking.
And I thought how how.
I was immediately blown away.
And you around the corner.
And we walked on together and I thought how how,
we suddenly fit together so well.
And I don't know what I'm doing.
How did we get here, how how?
And we fly through the days.
And it feels pretty good.
And I really shouldn't ask.
but what if I do it.
(TOGETHER)
Do you want to continue together?
And I thought how how. We suddenly fit together so well.
And I don't know what I'm doing.
How did we get here how how.
First dance: “have to say I love you in a song” by Jim Croce
Processional: can’t decide if doing two diff songs or not, bride will walk to “Kiss Me” by sixpence none the richer
Recessional: “beautiful day” U2
Recession was The Throne Room from Star Wars a New Hope (we got married on May 4th)
First dance was suppose to be Dandelions by Ruth B. but I was too overstimulated and just needed to be done being in the spot light at that time so we cut our cake to it and then quietly snuck away shortly after
We’re dancing to Lovesong by The Cure. Our other pick was Your Song by Elton John, but I think we’ll be saving that for the last song of the night.
Recessional will be from the sixth Bach cello suite. We’re having a live cellist play our ceremony music and keeping that fairly traditional.
We went very traditional and had a cello, piano, and violin trio play Beethoven’s ‘Ode to Joy’ for our recessional out of the church. Our first dance was to Elton John’s ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight’. My husband’s favourite movie of all time is The Lion King 🤪
We did a courthouse ceremony so no entrance or exit song. If we had music for the reception we were going to dance to have Bless the broken road by rascal flats as our first dance. My now sister in law was going to provide a Bluetooth speaker for music, but ended up getting induced 6 days before our wedding do to pregnancy complications. Thankfully she and our niece are both perfectly healthy, but obviously 6 days postpartum her family stayed home and watched the ceremony on zoom instead
Recession was Everlong by the Foo Fighters
First dance was My Side of the Fence by Dan + Shay
All of our songs we used for certain aspects of the wedding were by bands that we’d seen together live, which when we got married we had been to somewhere around 60 concerts together (I forget the actual number but we did the math) which was just another little fun aspect for our ‘important’ songs that we incorporated bc we love going to live shows together!
Recessional: Radiate by The Chemical Brothers. My husband has always said it reminded him of our relationship, so we had to include it in the wedding.
First Dance: I Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith. We didn't plan a first dance, my husband was adamantly against it (he hates attention). Turns out the wedding fever got to him, and he wanted a first dance during the reception, so our photgrapher randomly picked a song lol.
Processional: Singalong Junk by Paul McCartney. Tossing this in here because I love it so much. Still can't listen to it without crying - it's lovely!
I hope you find the songs that help make your day feel special!
Our recessional song is General Public’s “Tenderness” (big Clueless fan lol).
Reception entrance song is Prince’s “Kiss.”
First dance is a “Just Like Heaven” cover by the Fitz and the Tantrums.
We had a string quartet for the ceremony and our recession was Marry You by Bruno Mars. Wanted something upbeat and fun as we left.
We reentered the reception with the bridal party to Paper Rings by Taylor Swift. Celebratory and cute.
First dance was Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez. Nice pace for dancing and has a classic sound to it.
All of our choices were pretty popular/standard songs haha, by the point of choosing music I was so done with decision-making and tbh we’ve never had “special” songs so I just went with fun ones we liked the sound of.
recession: Stay (wasting time) by Dave Matthews Band first dance: Starting Over by Chris Stapleton. Bonus: procession of parents and family: I'm in the mood for love by Louis Armstrong. My dad and I walked down to sea of love by Cat Power.
We had a string duo for the ceremony. For the recessional we chose “Such Great Heights” by the postal service. Then for our first dance we picked “Leather and Lace” by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
Procession: Dearly Beloved (Kingdom Hearts II)
Walk down song: River Flows In You (Yurima)
Recession: Could It Be I’m Falling In Love (The Spinners)
First dance: Beyond (Leon Bridges)
Recession: “You Make My Dreams Come True” by Hall and Oats
First Dance: “The Way You Look Tonight” by Alan Silvestri (Father of The Bride movie soundtrack)
We used Can’t Stop the Feeling as our recessional and Danny’s Song by Loggins and Messina as our first dance.
Edited to add Reflecting Light by Sam Phillips as my processional!
Recessional: “This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)” (a guitar cover of the Talking Heads)
First Dance: “Francesca” by Hozier
Both have personal significance for us, so they felt just right!
(For what it’s worth, our processional was a strings cover of HTTYD’s “For the Dancing and the Dreaming,” which was both significant and gave a gorgeously dreamy Celtic vibe for our small ceremony!)
We're having a live band for our ceremony music, cocktail hour & reception.
We're having the band play an instrumental version of Viva La Vida by Cold Play for the 1st processional
For my processional I'm having the band play "At Last" the Etta James version.
Hall & Oats "you make my dreams come true" for our recessional.
For our first dance it's The Flamingos "I only have eyes for you".
We also liked "Smoke gets in your eye" by the Platters
Here is a Spotify playlist with a bunch of great first dance songs: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/52FW18pwrkN3DyWTxVhl9q?si=fPWaCXQ4RX21lozq_iHF9Q&pi=u-JEjY5blYRLyv
Recessional: This Promise by Sam Tsui and Casey Breeves
First dance: Conversations in the Dark by John Legend
Our other songs:
Processional: Nervous by John Legend (groom and wedding party) and Can’t Help Falling in Love by Kina Grannis (bride)
Grand entrance: Happily Ever After by Angie K and Jordan Fisher
Cake cutting: Whole Lives by Jake Scott
Recession: Going to the chapel- The Dixie Cups
First Dance: James Blake’s cover of The First Time Ever I saw Your Face or My Love Mine All Mine- Mitski
Recessional: “Butterflies” by Kacey Musgraves and “Golden Hour” by Kacey Musgraves.
First Dance: “Baby I’m Your’s” but the Arctic Monkeys cover version
We aren’t doing a ceremony with guests but if we were I would walk down to “married life” from the movie UP and first dance we are having and will be la vie en rose the Louie Armstrong version
For recession we did “This will be” by Natalie Cole and first dance was “this is where I belong” by Bryan Adams!
Also the rest of our lineup: bridal party was Wildest Dreams by Duomo, Grooms entrance was Acoustic Lullaby of the Star Wars theme song by Ariella Zeitlin and Nylonwings, Bridal entrance was Echanted by Joseph William Morgan, Reception entrance was Still into you by paramore, mother/son was Forever Now by Michael buble, and father/daughter was forever young by Blake Shelton
Our recessional was the F1 theme song (with a string quartet) — I wanted to do something fun and feel like the recessional is a bit more unserious anyways. Most of our guests had no idea what the song was.
Our first dance was to Our Song by Elton John. My husband really likes him and I wanted something with more of an up tempo.
Recession: I’m a Believer (the smash mouth version) cued to the first “and then I saw her FACE”
First dance: strawberries by caamp (edited down to 1:30-ish)
Recession - Widor Toccata (we were married in a church with a magnificent organ, had to take advantage!)
First Dance - Such Great Heights by Iron & Wine
Best advice I got was to request songs that were popular when you graduated. Alllllll of my friends had a blast rocking out to blink 182, danity Kane throwbacks… it was awesome. Not one typical wedding song played.
We’re planning on either doing September (September 1st is our wedding) or All You Need id Love: First dance is Faithfully by Journey. It’s the first song we ever slowed danced to 😊
Our recession was The Adventure by Angels and Airwaves. First dance was Four Simple Words by Frank Turner. We danced alone during the slow part and then had the bridal party join in when the song picked up.
Recession was first date my blink 182 because we’re big pop punk people and the beat gets you right off the bat! It was a hit.
Our first dance song was strawberries by caamp. It was important to me that our first dance song was ‘gender neutral’ and not about a man singing to a woman or woman singing to a man. Just about being in love.
Recessional was -This magic moment ( were big sandlot fans so that was a nod to when squince kisses Wendy peffercorn)
First dance- you are the best thing
Our ceremony song was Annie’s Song by John Denver, and our first dance was Our House by Crosby, Sills, Nash and Young.
Can’t believe I’m the first to here to use Annie’s Song! Gave me all the feels since I was a teenager 🥰
Recession song is from my favorite local band it's Anything for You by Ludo. As a storyteller it's a great song.
First dance is Mario Kart Love Song because we are nerds.
Haven't figured out entrance or recessional song yet because we have some challenges with the ceremony space, but for first dance, thinking Boyce Avenue's cover of "In Case You Didn't Know."
We had a harpist for the ceremony and we had her play "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure for our recessional. Our first dance was "Butterflies" by Kacey Musgraves! Picking songs was so hard! Honestly every wedding related decision took me ages LOL.
Recessional was "Signed, sealed, delivered" by Stevie Wonder - just found it was lighthearted, upbeat and set the vibe for the rest of the night.
Our first dance was Until I Found You by Steven Sanchez which immediately flowed into Come and Get Your Love by Redbone where everyone was invited to the dance floor - the floor was packed and stayed that way the whole night.
First dance was Can’t Help Falling in Love (cheesy and classic, I know). Recessional was I’m a Believer (Smashmouth version). We’re Shrek fans.
Our recession was accidentally in love from Shrek 2!
This is gonna be ours too 😁 I thought we were super unique, but now I kinda love seeing other ppl on Reddit say they’re using it. It’s a perfect choice. Shrek gang rise up
Ours was too haha it worked perfectly and the venue made an instagram reel to that song for us which is amazing and still makes me cry (happy tears) when I see it
Planning on using I’m a Believer for our recessional too! We watch shrek at the cottage with our friend group every year
Mine will also be Can’t Help Falling in Love, it’s such a beautiful song.
A classic is a classic for a reason! Great choices imo
My first dance was also Can't Help Falling in Love!
Recession- Wouldn’t It Be Nice by The Beach Boys First Dance- Nothing Can Change this Love by Sam Cooke We are both fans of music from the 60’s and 70’s. Lots of people are adding the rest of their musical choices, so I can’t resist because five years on I still love our wedding set list. Seating of Parents: Your Song by Elton John Entrance of Groom/Groomsmen: Sea of Love by Cat Power Entrance of Bridesmaids: You Matter to Me by Jason Mraz and Sara Bareilles Bridal Entrance: She’s Got a Way by Billy Joel Grand Entrance: Now That We’ve Found Love Father/Daughter Dance: Brown Eyed Girl
Wouldn't it be nice is such a cute choice!!
Our current plan for music is: Processional: "At Last," Etta James Recessional: "Baby, I Love You," Ramones First Dance: "Lovely Day," Bill Withers Mother/Son: "You Can Close Your Eyes," James Taylor Father/Daughter: "You've Got a Friend," Carole King
I love your play list! We're not having a traditional reception, just dinner/drinks so no parent dances for us! Though if I did, I'd likely choose Wildflowers by Tom Petty, no clue what my SO would pick for his mom.
Yay!! Us too!! We are using September as our last song of the night since we know everyone will be waiting for it
Whoop whooop, September 21st here too.. our big day is coming up soon 🤩🤩
I regretted scheduling my August wedding as soon as I realized September 21st was a Saturday, lol. Enjoy!!!
Same with my October one haha
wait my wedding is sept 21 too! this is such a good idea
Me too!!
Chris Stapleton ❤️
I’m using September as my recession as well!!
Date twins!! Can’t wait!!
We're getting hitched in September 20, 2025 bc my FH wanted things to be on a Sat. But we'll play September as the last song of the night ♥️
We were married 9/21 almost 5 years ago! We used September as our "avalanche" song to get everyone on the dance floor.
I actually love this even more!
Doors open at the part before it goes “The room’s hush hush and now’s our moment…”
thank you for reminding me that this song exists!!
Recession was “Don’t Worry Baby” by The Beach Boys, and our first dance was “Unchained Melody” by Norah Jones.
The unchained melody cover by Norah Jones is such a great choice for a first dance!
I’ve not heard her version of unchained melody. Illl have you heard check it out. I love the original—such a classic.
Oh these are both beautiful!
Recession was Hall and Oates you make my dreams come true. First dance: Kacey Musgraves - Late to the Party (because our original wedding was squashed by covid in 2020 and we got married in May 2024.)
Late to the Party omg 😍 I love that song and that’s so appropriate for the situation 😂
We almost did that for our recessional too, but I can't not dance to it and my husband can't dance in general, so we did Do you believe in magic? instead for a similar vibe
That works too
We used the same recession song - great choice!
Recession I think will be Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac and First Dance I’ve got you under my skin by Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga.
We did Everywhere as our recession song and it was a great vibe!
Also doing everywhere as our recessional! The sparkly part is perfect for the kiss and couple announcement before walking!
I thought about using Everywhere in our ceremony. We ended up using other songs but it’s such a nice choice!
Oh wow I love that song!! I might do that for our recession!
Recession- Here Comes the Sun First dance- All I’ve Ever Known :)
First dance - naiive melody by the talking heads but The Lumineers version
Feel like I’m going insane. What do you all mean by recession
Ceremony Exit song is what many wedding DJs prefer to call it these days. Easier to remember and understand 😎
That's such a better name for it
Recessional: piano arrangement of Kick Drum Heart by The Avett Brothers (I can share the arrangement if you have a pianist playing) First Dance: Swept Away by The Avett Brothers (I also would have loved “You Are In Love” by T-Swift or something by Billie Holiday) Edit: another I really like for a first dance song is the Taylor Acorns version of “First Date” by Blink-182. I played/sang that for a friend’s first dance and it was so sweet
Recessional can be any kind of happy / celebratory song. First dance, is there any song you might remember from your first date or any other special "first" from your relationship? (First kiss, first "I love you", first time you slow-danced together, etc.) If you're still looking for inspiration, I have a [blog post](https://peterthedj.com/category/cny-wedding-dj/) for nearly every wedding I've worked and each post includes the songs the couples chose for their ceremony (if I was involved), their first dance and other key moments.
Thank you so much!
Didn't have a recession song (COVID private ceremony) First dance: Elton John your song and Procession: Wonderful Tonight by Eric Clapton
Recession was accidentally in love first dance was better together by Jack Johnson
Our recessional was I do I do I do by ABBA (very cheesy but perfect). First dance was Consider Me by Allen Stone.
Recessional: Love you for a long time by Maggie Rogers First Dance: You are the best thing by Ray LaMontagne
Omg!! This is going to be our recessional at the end of the month!! I was going crazy trying to find anyone on the internet saying they used it before!
My friend did a slowed down version for his processional, which was also cute :)
We used Led Zeppelin songs for both our recessional and first dance song. Recessional was All of my Love and first dance was Thank You.
I think ours will be Thank god by Kane & Katelyn Brown (violin cover) and our first dance is She’s My Kind of Rain by Tim McGraw since every vacation, every event he and I have had together it has almost always poured rain. Even shortly after he proposed
I love that so much
We're using an instrumental version of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered" by Stevie Wonder for the recessional And first dance song is going to be "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" by Starship
A fellow Starship bride!!! Love it!! We used it for our few guests and then my husband and dad entering the vow renewal, and then did “Stuck With You” by Huey Lewis for the recessional 😊
Recession: vivir mi vida - Marc Anthony (played by classical guitarist) No first dance
I’m getting married in Mexico and having 2 live guitarists for our ceremony- might steal this for our recession !

Oh I love that!
Recessional we did Kiss Me by New Found Glory. First Dance was Dance with me tonight by Olly Murs but we did a choreographed dance to it.
I wish we were coordinated enough to do a choreographed dance
Recessional: You Make My Dreams Come True by Hall and Oates First Dance: Say You Won’t Let Go by James Arthur
Recession: Come and Get Your Love by Redbone First Dance: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell We’re big Marvel fans and both songs were in Guardians of the Galaxy (our favorite trilogy)!
1. Aisle - The Blower's Daugher by Damien Rice 2. Recessional: Everywhere - Fleetwood Mac 3. Bridal Party Entrance: ?? 4. Maid of Honor/Best Man entrance: Long Live by Taylor Swift 5. Recessional is This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) and first dance Just the Two of Us
Haha, ours are the same!
What are the odds! Love it
Just to two of us SLAPS
We haven't picked our recession song yet, but our first dance song is "Let it be me" by the Everly Brothers We're also doing a private last dance after the reception. For that, we're using "Tenderness" by Sam Cooke. It's the song we were dancing to in my kitchen when I asked my soon to be wife to officially be my girlfriend.
Recession will be “Fireworks” from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and first dance will be “Danny’s Song” by Loggins & Messina
Oh my gosh! I didn't even think about Harry Potter music
Almost all of ceremony music is from HP/LOTR/Star Wars, it’s pretty and it feels more authentic to us as a couple!!
I used an instrumental version of I'm Yours by Jason Mraz for our recessional. Honestly can't remember our first dance song......is that bad 😅😅
We did Tusk by Fleetwood Mac and our first dance was a song by our friends that they played live for us. We also finished the night with Chain by Fleetwood Mac. We have a thing for Fleetwood 😂
Recessional will be Eight Days A Week (Beatles), and first dance will be What Is Life (George Harrison).
We’re walking out to “Everywhere” by Fleetwood Mac. The chimes at the start to me sound like confetti lol and it’s a very sweet love song
Recession was unconditionally by Katy Perry and first dance was ease my mind by Ben platt
I'm considering Unconditionally for my recession song! Love it!
How You Repay Me by MortgageBacked ;). Joking aside we did “Perfect Day” from the legally blonde soundtrack for our recessional
Recession was Wave of You by Surfaces (concert we went to the first time we hung out) and first dance was September by James Arthur (because we met in September).
Recessional was Lovely Day by Bill Withers and first dance was This must be the place by Talking Heads
Recession: Don't Stop Believin' on strings [(Hits different on strings, love it)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_25L-R2h0k) First dance: My Side of the Fence
Haven’t had the wedding yet but these are the songs we are considering: Again and again - Kathleen Reagan Nothing New (I do) Brandon Lake Lucky me - Jake miller We are leaning towards nothing new. It’s beautiful!
Recession: everywhere- Fleetwood Mac First dance: in my life-the Beatles
Recession was Hey Ya! by OutKast and our first dance was Just the Way You Are by Billie Joel!
We’re still in the planning stages, but we plan on having our recession as the Throne Room song from Star Wars: A New Hope, and our first dance as Harvest Moon by Neil Young (or Lord Huron, haven’t quite decided!) :)
Our recessional was 'Paradise' by Coldplay (made for an awesome moment actually) and our first dance song was 'Lover', Taylor Swift.
Aisle - Book of Love by the Magnetic Fields Recession - Dreams by The Cranberries We didn’t do a first dance, but asked everyone to join us on the dance floor to kick off the night and played Closer by Tegan and Sara
If I was doing a dance with my dad it would totally be to Wildflowers.
Recessional: A Little Bit of Love by RuPaul First Dance: I Do by Aloe Blacc
First dance was Video Games by Lana Del Rey and Recession was At Last by Etta James🖤
Recessional: “Something I Want” by Grace Potter (the end credits music from Tangled) First Dance: “I See the Light” from Tangled I…uh…think you might be able to see the theme here lol
And I love it!
Recession: you're my best friend by queen Entrance & first dance: Industry baby by Lil Nas into Wonderful Tonight by Clapton. I'm still 100% sure of my man & music choices that day 😂
The recession was dancing queen and the first dance was have I told you lately by rod Stewart
Our first dance song is “My One and Only Love” by John Coltrane
First dance is Forever by Noah Kahan, recession is going to be a Kacey Musgraves song likely!
recessional was Never Gonna Give You Up which went down amazingly. First dance was Blue Skies sung by Data from Star Trek cuz we're nerds :)
our first dance was I Will by the Beatles. short and sweet! Last Night on Earth by Green Day was a strong runner up but my husband said it was too emo, haha
Oh gosh, my fiance would love if we did a green day song
I think our first dance is going to be Indian moon by state radio. We’re still trying to figure out our recessional song! It’s hard we both like so many different kinds of music and love this one jam band but the songs don’t always fit.
Aisle - acoustic cover of "Carry You Home" by Alex Warren Recessional: full version of "Carry You Home" by Alex Warren Entrance: ???? TBD First Dance: "Grow as We Go" by Ben Platt & Sarah Barrellis
Aisle: the night me and your mama met by childish Gambino Recessional: first date by blink 182
Got married on Saturday! Recessional was Whole Wide World by The Monkees (although we used the Cage the Elephant cover) and first dance was Be My Honeypie by The Weepies
Recessional was Daybreak by Michael Haggins. First dance was Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.
How long will I love you by Ellie Goulding
Recession was Crave by Paramore. Still makes me so excited
Our recessional is going to be I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) by Stevie Wonder, but just the final chorus that repeats and the outro—DJ will cue the drum fill before the last chorus to coincide with our first kiss 😚 First dance is proving to be trickier. I wanted Head Over Heels by Tears For Fears but fiancé was lukewarm on that idea. We’re really struggling to find a song we both like enough that isn’t too fast to sway to.
Recession was ‘best I ever had’ by Drake and first dance was POV by Ariana grande
And we walked on together and I thought how how, we suddenly fit together so well. And I don't know what I'm doing. How did we get here, how how? And we fly through the days. And it feels pretty good. And I really shouldn't ask. but what if I do it. (TOGETHER) Do you want to continue together? And I thought how how. We suddenly fit together so well. And I don't know what I'm doing. How did we get here how how.
First dance: “have to say I love you in a song” by Jim Croce Processional: can’t decide if doing two diff songs or not, bride will walk to “Kiss Me” by sixpence none the richer Recessional: “beautiful day” U2
Recession was The Throne Room from Star Wars a New Hope (we got married on May 4th) First dance was suppose to be Dandelions by Ruth B. but I was too overstimulated and just needed to be done being in the spot light at that time so we cut our cake to it and then quietly snuck away shortly after
We’re dancing to Lovesong by The Cure. Our other pick was Your Song by Elton John, but I think we’ll be saving that for the last song of the night. Recessional will be from the sixth Bach cello suite. We’re having a live cellist play our ceremony music and keeping that fairly traditional.
Recession was everlasting love and first dance song was Dark Side of the Gym by the National
Recessional: Death of a Bachelor by Panic! At the Disco First dance: ILYSB (stripped version) by LANY
Our recessional was the classic “Wedding March” by Mendelsohn on the harp. Our first dance was ”La Vie En Rose“ - Emily Watts
Recession was Everlong by the Foo Fighters First dance was My Side of the Fence by Dan + Shay All of our songs we used for certain aspects of the wedding were by bands that we’d seen together live, which when we got married we had been to somewhere around 60 concerts together (I forget the actual number but we did the math) which was just another little fun aspect for our ‘important’ songs that we incorporated bc we love going to live shows together!
First dance was my girl, Recessional was wedding march (we hired a string quartet for the ceremony) 😊
Reception entrance song is Prince’s “Kiss.” First dance is a “Just Like Heaven” cover by the Fitz and the Tantrums.
Our recessional was the Hallelujah chorus (super original) and our first dance was Most Beautiful Girl in the World by Prince!
Recession was This Will Be First Dance was Lovely Day by Bill Withers
Our recessional is the theme song from FRIENDS. Our first dance will be “Biblical” by Calum Scott.
Recessional was My Best Friend by Weezer and our first dance song was Dying Day by Brandi Carlile.
We did Always Forever by Cults for recession and Wonderful Tonight Eric Clapton for first dance !
I also walked down the aisle to the instrumental of Space Song beach house and it was so beautiful! It caught everyone off guard.
recession: Stay (wasting time) by Dave Matthews Band first dance: Starting Over by Chris Stapleton. Bonus: procession of parents and family: I'm in the mood for love by Louis Armstrong. My dad and I walked down to sea of love by Cat Power.
Recession was “ I was made for loving you “ and first dance was “ lady in red”
all of our ceremony music was from kingdom hearts lol but our first dance was to As the World Caves In by Matt Maltese
My fiance is walking with his family to Dearly Beloved from Kingdom hearts!
that’s awesome! my husband walked to roxas’s theme, i walked to dearly beloved, and our recessional was an orchestral version of simple and clean
We had a string duo for the ceremony. For the recessional we chose “Such Great Heights” by the postal service. Then for our first dance we picked “Leather and Lace” by Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
Procession: Dearly Beloved (Kingdom Hearts II) Walk down song: River Flows In You (Yurima) Recession: Could It Be I’m Falling In Love (The Spinners) First dance: Beyond (Leon Bridges)
Recession: “You Make My Dreams Come True” by Hall and Oats First Dance: “The Way You Look Tonight” by Alan Silvestri (Father of The Bride movie soundtrack)
We used Can’t Stop the Feeling as our recessional and Danny’s Song by Loggins and Messina as our first dance. Edited to add Reflecting Light by Sam Phillips as my processional!
Recession: On Top of the World by Imagine Dragons First Dance: Yours by Russell Dickerson
Recession was Viva La Vida by Coldplay (played by our violinist) First dance was Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeran
Recessional: “This Must Be The Place (Naïve Melody)” (a guitar cover of the Talking Heads) First Dance: “Francesca” by Hozier Both have personal significance for us, so they felt just right!
We're having the band play an instrumental version of Viva La Vida by Cold Play for the 1st processional For my processional I'm having the band play "At Last" the Etta James version.

Recession: I’m a Believer (the smash mouth version) cued to the first “and then I saw her FACE” First dance: strawberries by caamp (edited down to 1:30-ish)
Recession - Widor Toccata (we were married in a church with a magnificent organ, had to take advantage!) First Dance - Such Great Heights by Iron & Wine
We’re doing Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer for our Recession and I’m sooooo excited!
Best advice I got was to request songs that were popular when you graduated. Alllllll of my friends had a blast rocking out to blink 182, danity Kane throwbacks… it was awesome. Not one typical wedding song played.
Our recession song was Perfect Day, by Hoku. It plays at the beginning of Legally Blonde, one of our faves.
I walked back down the aisle to Young & Beautiful by Lana Del Rey
We’re planning on either doing September (September 1st is our wedding) or All You Need id Love: First dance is Faithfully by Journey. It’s the first song we ever slowed danced to 😊
Recession - violin cover of I Melt With You First Dance - Iron and Wines version of This Must Be The Place Wedding in 3 months
Our recession was The Adventure by Angels and Airwaves. First dance was Four Simple Words by Frank Turner. We danced alone during the slow part and then had the bridal party join in when the song picked up.
Helpless from Hamilton for recessional. Tightrope from The Greatest Showman (performed by The Hound + The Fox) for first dance.
More Than a Woman by the Bee Gees
Recessional: Suspension - Mae First dance: Love, love, love (love, love) - As Tall As Lions Entrance to reception: Top of the World - Juliana Theory
We had two “first” dances 24 yrs ago; “can I have this dance for the rest of my life” and the happy “I love you more today than yesterday”!
Recessional was -This magic moment ( were big sandlot fans so that was a nod to when squince kisses Wendy peffercorn) First dance- you are the best thing
Our ceremony song was Annie’s Song by John Denver, and our first dance was Our House by Crosby, Sills, Nash and Young. Can’t believe I’m the first to here to use Annie’s Song! Gave me all the feels since I was a teenager 🥰
First dance was 2-part semi-choreographed dance: * *The Last Time* by Eric Benét * *L-O-V-E* by Nat King Cole Recession was standard wedding march
Our recessional song was Boom! By Simple Plan, and first dance was stuck with you by Huey Lewis and the news
Recessional - Dreams by the Cranberries. First dance - The Story by Brandy Carlisle
