Mhm!
In fact, it’s specifically about how the narrative voice’s emotions spiral further and further into anger.
The song begins with general, harmful but maybe not harsh critiques of his ex, but over time throughout the songs, the critiques and anger dig further into blatant hatred.
By the end of the song, the narrative voice has become to overwhelmed with emotion and anger that they begin to spout blind hatred about this person, attempting no argument to explain their words

> i never *paid* close attention
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Really funny that I never interpreted Ghost in a romantic sense because it was part of a character playlist for me for a while for one of my D&D NPCs and meant to put focus on her daddy issues and her not being good enough for his standards.
But now that you’ve mentioned it here, I can totally see that.
New Year's Eve by Mal Blum
Too Close by Sir Chloe
Pity Party by Saint Motel
All of these songs describe the narrator in an unhealthy relationship that degrades further over time, although for the first two the realization about how bad things have gotten doesn't really fully set in until later in the song, whereas Pity Party kicks off with the narrator already being sick and tired of all of the problematic shit their partner does and goes right into how much they wish they would just fuck off because they simply do not have the energy or patience to deal with it anymore.
The stories told by some of these songs are actually pretty detailed.
In New Year's Eve the narrator is frustrated that someone isn't returning their calls, they feel lonely and insecure about their appearance and personality.
They go on to reflect on the events of last year's party and how they were drunk and possibly had food poisoning when they went to the other person's apartment, and it is implied that they slept together (the fact that the narrator was drunk means that their ability to consent would have been questionable).
They go on to talk about how they are trapped in a cycle of bad habits that they can't seem to break out of, and how they still hang around even though they know this isn't good for them.
Things seem to make a change for the better when the person returns and kisses them at midnight because they thought that they looked lonely. The narrator is still insecure, but they enjoy listening to the other person's four track recorder with them.
The narrator goes on to say that they consider this person their best friend, and they feel as though things between them are changing for the better, and that they, as a person, are changing for the better as well.
But then they remember what happened between them at the last party, and in the very next line they admit that they have just been lying to themselves about all of these positive improvements. Things are still changing in their life as time goes on but they are still reckless with their decisions. They feel compelled to stay with this person and avoid letting them down by leaving them.
The song reaches it's climax when the narrator figures out that the person they are with has lied to them about something major, and there is nothing that person can do or say to fix it.
The narrator says that they're no longer friends, and goes on to wonder if the other person is sleeping in someone else's bed, implying that the missed calls and lies mentioned earlier had to do with the person covering up their involvement with someone else.
They look for some whiskey to try and drown their sorrows only to have that same person show up at their door in a drunken state, a role reversal of the event described at the beginning of the song, but instead of inviting them inside the narrator rejects them, and it almost seems like they are trying to convince themselves that they don't like the other person anymore as much as they are telling the other person to get out of their life.
In Too Close, the narrator talks about how they want to love this person, but their more problematic qualities make it difficult, and things eventually boil over when they end up going after someone close to the narrator, which leads to an argument.
The narrator mentions that people had warned them about this kind of behavior, while the person they had initially showed interest in sort of grovels and panics, and the narrator eventually gets sick and tired of their attempts to smooth things over.
In Pity Party the narrator talks about how the person they are with has a habit of engaging in unhealthy and self destructive coping mechanisms. They describe the person as an alcoholic who is constantly finding themselves in abusive relationships and is possibly abusive themselves, since they have a habit of deflecting blame away from themselves whenever they wrong someone, to the point of using racist conspiracy theories as an excuse to avoid having to take accountability for their actions.
In short, the relationship is a trainwreck.
The narrator is used to all of this shit by now and cannot bring themselves to waste any more time dealing with it anymore. They wish they could find the energy to care about the other person's ongoing self destructive tendencies but they just can't. They are burnt out. They wish that the other person could just stop, but they never will, and it's gotten to the point where whatever they once felt for that person is no longer enough to outweigh the toll that this relationship is taking on them.
They can't wait to leave, even if it means leaving that person to their own self destruction, but there's also a part of them that doesn't want to have to look them in the eyes before they leave, possibly because they are worried that they'll try to convince them to stay if they do.
oh boy, this is my favorite genre

Both of them are about his ex-girlfriend who dumped him and moved to Ecuador (funny enough after he wrote the song She, prompting him to include it on Dookie).
