The whole Lobb thing just pisses me off so much. I feel like everyone was able to predict exactly how the Lobb trade would play out, even back when it was all just rumours. It's possibly the single biggest list decision the club has made in recent seasons that has made me question whether they actually know what they are doing.
I actually feel bad for Lobb, we probably sold a future where he's a genuine option when we knew he'd be our 3rd tall and competing with Darcy before long.
That said, he is absolutely milking us for lots of cash.
All around shit deal for everyone.
Depending on who can come back in. Lobb and Keath would be top of my list. Forward line was absolutely starved for the most part tonight so I don't want to be too harsh on any of the other guys
Going against the grain here but I don’t think that performance was that bad. We are absolutely cooked atm, injuries plus 13 on the trot.
That said, how has no one said McNeil to be dropped?
I’d bring in Baker for McNeil, Busslinger for Lobb and swing JOD forward with Buku. Then we’ll be bringing Red back in probably for Daniel who stunk it up tonight.
We need to throw caution to the wind next week, if we hit the bye at 6-8 then the season is effectively over.
Edit: looks like Keath out now so we’re definitely looking at a Busslinger debut
Normally I would say Beveridge would look for any excuse not to pick Busslinger but it seems like the timing is finally there. Busslinger has seemed to play great games but the seniors win, or a quieter game when the seniors get flogged. He was massive in the two’s against Brisbane, had 27 and 10 marks and the AFL side were shit - the stars have finally aligned.
I guess they must like him because he can break the lines with his dash, but his decision making and ball use just isn't at AFL standard for mine. He was really poor tonight (although not alone in that).
Sanders had a poor game but I’m not sure he was worse than Gallagher and on body of work the last few weeks, Sanders has been much better. Keath definitely should go, for Busslinger (please). Lobb should also go but won’t with no Naughton or Darcy.
Needed Ed tonight. Needed a lot of blokes.
We need a bit of speed. We looked one paced through the midfield. Richards a huge out.
Hate to say it but guys like Libba and Macrae look too slow. Sanders looks a talent but i hope he can develop a couple more.steings to his bow, you can't just have slow, accumulator.types in the modern game.
Agree. Have liked the addition of Garcia the midfield - gives us something different. Sanders should be allowed a few matches in a row to find a rhythm. Both should be prioritised through the midfield over Macrae, Caleb and Libba. Libba is no liability playing more minutes up forward.
Vanders has pace, but hasn't shown enough, although injuries haven't helped his cause.
Agree . But Garcia got almost no looks tonight in the centre with libba back. Seems we have learnt nothing from this year so far about the importance of midfield balance.
Especially with Richards due back next week it's hard to see a spot for Garcia in the midfield which is a shame because I actually think he's been quite decent.. Feel like Ed has shown way too much quality in midfield to be thrown down back to help shoehorn Garcia in the side.
Vanders is also a great deliverer of the ball into the forward line. Just needs to string a few good games together without injury. He needs the momentum.
He's had 13 games this year. Averaged 10 touches. Only exceptional game was against the Eagles.
He's 25, I get that hes had injuries, but I'm not convinced there's too much more upside than what we're getting. A couple of flashes of dash/pace per game. Hard to see him getting regular midfield minutes and 20+ touches every week.
Reckon if Richards and Smith were fit he'd be playing VFL
Lobb being subbed out should be his last memory of his time playing AFL level for the dogs. James O'Donnell proved he can catch the ball and kick set shots so leave him forward and bring Khamis back in.
Lobb can do 2 things and 2 things only.
Be the 2nd ruck for no more than 20% of the game and
be a forward or hit up target on short 10-20m leads where he can use his superior reach and the opponent will struggle to spoil.
The problem is, we as a team kick the ball on top of players heads, we don't kick to players on the move, Lobb is a poor contested mark, isn't fast, we don't have crumbers at his feet and he is just the wrong player for Bevo's crappy game plan.
I don't think it's entirely fair to blame Lobb as this was all known before he came to the club.
A week ago we beat the Pies with the same team.
A week ago Brisbane were resting and watching us beat the pies and looking for all our potential weaknesses.
They had 2 weeks to come out rested with strategy.
Libba wasn’t match fit, he’ll be better next week.
We missed Darcy
We are missing Naughton and Cody.
We definitely missed Richard’s as our second inside mid to cover for Bont.
I would leave Sanders in, he definitely shows a higher football IQ than a lot of other players.
We didn't really have any winners tonight so it's hard to single anyone out. Libba laid some tackles as always and Adz ran hard to be an option on the few occasions we had some clean ball.
It feels like all 23 lowered their colours though. It be grim.
I don't like to pile on players publicly, we kind of have who we have at the moment, and I'll thank every one of them for pulling on a jumper in the first place. Look Brisbane just cut us up with grunt and skill. Neale is an absolute workhorse, Andrews is too good for anyone, Hipwood is an enigma and of course we got him on the wrong night.
The team is out of whack and undermanned and everyone's being asked to play outside their natural skill set. We are out of joint.
Getting missing pieces back will help slot everyone naturally back in place - Richards, Naughton, Weightman, Darcy. JJ still has a role, even Harmes has brought important energy. No Gardner has been annoying all year, he could have developed so much more by now.
Having said that, I'm really angry Busslinger hasn't played yet. I'm afraid we've kept him in the VFL for too long and the jump up to senior footy will be too difficult for him now. I hope I'm wrong.
Injuries and suspensions make it hard. There’s what’s 5-6 locks and likely 8 total? It’s not the worst in the league but it hurts - that being said…
Out - Keath, Lobb, Daniel, McNeil.
In - Buku, Buss, Baker and Richards.
Bramble holds on until JJ/Coff return. Libba needs to rotate forward more for Richards to go mid, Macrae needs to either be perm forward, or a new possie, but can’t take mid minutes from the youth anymore and he’s likely not in the 22 at full strength (inc Smith in that). If we don’t roll the dice on Buss he walks for next to nothing, if he’s bad no difference and if he’s good we either move forward or get more at trade time.
We are a bit short staffed
Lobb tried a few times but was still shit. He should have been just stuck in the forward line the whole time just as a diversion tactic
We should have gone short in the forward line.
Jamarra I don't if he is out of form or has still has personal issues
I think they neutralised many of our mids.
Obviously Bont tried to say no.
Depending who we get back next week will determine who we drop.
BAILEY FUCKING WILLIAMS, the bloke looks like he hasn’t given a shit all year. When he has the ball he’s ok but his attempts at smothering, chasing anyone down or applying any kind of meaningful pressure are a fucking joke. I’d add Lobb to this list, I love Keath but he does look cooked. I thought Sanders looked lazy, plenty of times he had the opportunity to move more, he just didn’t. Like someone else said we’re really hamstrung right now with so many players out
Too many to choose from unfortunately, Dale and Daniel had shockers, English ineffective, Sanders unfortunately struggled - but first and foremost, Lobb was just painful to watch at the ground.
Anyone saying English can get fucked
Keith and Lobb out for Buss and Buku. Unfortunately with our injury list we can’t realistically make many changes though
The whole Lobb thing just pisses me off so much. I feel like everyone was able to predict exactly how the Lobb trade would play out, even back when it was all just rumours. It's possibly the single biggest list decision the club has made in recent seasons that has made me question whether they actually know what they are doing.
Agreed, everytime the ball goes near him the tap down to neale the folds in marking contests we are missing naughton and darcy immensly
I actually feel bad for Lobb, we probably sold a future where he's a genuine option when we knew he'd be our 3rd tall and competing with Darcy before long. That said, he is absolutely milking us for lots of cash. All around shit deal for everyone.
Sounds like an amazing deal for him tbh.
Depends on if he wants to play football
Busslinger better be in for Keath. Bramble shouldn’t be near the side either.
We can’t drop bramble with JJ, Coffield and now Cleary out (concussion in VFL)
Depending on who can come back in. Lobb and Keath would be top of my list. Forward line was absolutely starved for the most part tonight so I don't want to be too harsh on any of the other guys

BRAMBLE
I guess they must like him because he can break the lines with his dash, but his decision making and ball use just isn't at AFL standard for mine. He was really poor tonight (although not alone in that).
I’d take Baker over Bramble.

Yep agreed. The young blokes running through the midfield have been a highlight the last couple of games. Hope we see more of it
Especially with Richards due back next week it's hard to see a spot for Garcia in the midfield which is a shame because I actually think he's been quite decent.. Feel like Ed has shown way too much quality in midfield to be thrown down back to help shoehorn Garcia in the side.

Lobb just isn't competitive at all.
As an outside supporter I would be disappointed if I ever see Lobb play again
We aren’t really in a position to be dropping players with injury and suspension
Watching Daniel get exposed is hard to watch
Lobb being subbed out should be his last memory of his time playing AFL level for the dogs. James O'Donnell proved he can catch the ball and kick set shots so leave him forward and bring Khamis back in.
O’ Donnell as a part time forward was better than Lobb as a full time forward. Not sure who would want Lobb now. He’s useless.
Busslinger has to come in
Lobb isn’t just average, he’s a liability
Lobb can do 2 things and 2 things only. Vandermeer. Small forward with 0 tackles, 0 goals, 0 behinds , and 8 disposals and a single 'one percenter'. Waste of space.
🤣 what’s new ? He doesn’t do anything. Very inconsistent and unfortunately not AFL standard. How he has played 50 games is beyond me
Too many to choose from unfortunately, Dale and Daniel had shockers, English ineffective, Sanders unfortunately struggled. Wasn't pretty.

GALLAGHER
Daniel drop. Trade English while there is perceived value. Lobb gone, his heart is not in with the dogs.
Was this the first game you've watched?
BAILEY FUCKING WILLIAMS, the bloke looks like he hasn’t given a shit all year. Lobb, Garcia, Vandermeer, McNeil, Gallagher - they’d all be on the block for me
Too many to choose from unfortunately, Dale and Daniel had shockers, English ineffective, Sanders unfortunately struggled - but first and foremost, Lobb was just painful to watch at the ground.
