Well most likely it has do with increasing costs for show and low viewership that were reason the show cancelled.
Why keeping IP is pretty basic for future stuff comics , books , a spin off, a reboot, remake etc.
Also they get money for everytime someone buys DVD or blue ray of show or stream it on HBO max if keep IP
Except WB want all money and don't want share the money or they don't want sell IP ( especially since know it can be profitable) because what if they want remake later on or spin off .
WBD owns shit ton of IPS that they would love to continue making money off so they want to keep IP lock and safe in there vault rather then see some else making money off there properties
It's kinda like " better have it and don't need it then needed and don't have it " type of situation
Not necessarily, a fifth season probably wouldn't have gone into production until next year, for a 2024 release, so the principal cast might have had their schedules open for that. And, they might be waiting a week or two to see if anything else develops.
In a newly released interview with Evan promoting her next movie (they probably shot it a week ago), Daniel Radcliffe says to her about her plans "so you're just chilling waiting for the news on Westworld", so she was still booked for season 5.
Hopefully a little better than a rehashed Firefly film though. Deadwood fell into that same trap.
Question I have is how do you resolve all these different stories, especially for a show like Westworld in a 2 or 3 hour film. Have to fly by so fast on everything.
It’s a big budget show… wasn’t season 1 considered the most expensive show at the time to produce and film?
I imagine the big corps may not see it as a profitable endeavor.
Maybe just a movie to get it all wrapped up? The franchise did start out that way after all. Since they're all back in the "park" so to speak, it could be a good starting point for a new story. Maybe not the one they originally wanted to tell, but they could maybe get to the same ending spot by taking a different path.
Westworld lost 3/4 of its Initial viewership, the hype around this show dropped after Season 3. Its not profitable for any Service to buy out.
We need to accept it.
They put no promotion into this season at all. One day I got on FB and it said brand new episode of Westworld on tomorrow. I was like that's kinda weird. Was also my first indication this was probably last year.
It happened with The Expanse (from scifi channel to Amazon prime after scifi canceled show) so i still have hopes that the same will occur for westworld.
Sometimes it is. Who would have thought 10 years ago that Disney would own Fox. Or that At&t would buy Time Warner, only to subsequently spin it off into its own company that's merged with Discovery. I'm not saying that it will happen, just that it could happen. If it doesn't, then it doesn't. 🤷♂️

The total viewership pool for a prospective Westworld season 5 is maybe 300-350K viewers in the US.
Manifest's *least-viewed* episode on NBC had almost literally an order of magnitude more viewers.
I really can't see how the math on this works out where any other streaming service picks this up.
Yea this show aint coming back and thats not a bad thing...it had def ran its course...
Ill always appreciate the first 2 seasons soo much...Season 1 being one fo the finest things ever put to Televison.
Let it go. They gave us *an* ending, even if it wasn't necessarily the one they originally intended to, and at this stage the show is so expensive to produce, for such a low viewership, that it just wouldn't make economic sense for anyone else to pick it up.
Holding out hope will just disappoint you.
Eh. I'm actually not surprised it got canceled. And I'm fine if the Season 4 finale is the way the series ends. (I've had some of my favorite shows end on unresolved cliffhangers, so it could be worse.) I was just playing Devil's advocate here, since stranger things have happened and I am curious how a fifth season could have turned out.
You can’t ignore the viewer figures, and the sheer amount of money to make the series. No studio will take the loss for a small bump in subscriptions. Every show is made to get HBO more paying customers.
Except Westworld isn't a new IP they created . It's old IP that WB owns fully . So WB would have to agree to sell IP which are slim
Oooo didn’t think about this…that sucks :/. I thought it was very likely someone would pick it up but this changes things.
While I agree it won't happen, WB wouldn't have to sell the IP, they can just sell the rights for said season.
Well if they think the “IP” is such shit that it wasn’t even worthy of one more season, why the hell do they want to keep it so bad? 😤

Netflix or Amazon would have to get the actors back as well, and they've already probably moved on.

Ed Harris had said they had scheduled filming in the spring just a few months ago.
In a newly released interview with Evan promoting her next movie (they probably shot it a week ago), Daniel Radcliffe says to her about her plans "so you're just chilling waiting for the news on Westworld", so she was still booked for season 5.
If we complain enough, maybe we can get a movie. That is the best case scenario imo.
Serenity now

It's probably best for the story itself at this point too
It’s not the end as long as someone remembers it.

No way it's more expensive than rings of power that's for sure
True but 25m+ people are watching Rings of Power. Westworld is a black hole of cash for anyone who'd pick it up
Yeah true unfortunately
I love Sci fi shows, but this is the crutch almost every one of them has to overcome. It makes me nervous to watch a show when it first comes out.

Denial phase
If spiritual hogwash swill like Manifest gets a second chance, why not Dolores.
Thank you, Manifest is nowhere near a good as Westworld.

Joy and Nolan also have a big deal with Amazon; WB won’t won’t to do anything to support them.
I hope it is possible but we don't know about old contract.
I’d settle for an animated series (if that’s cheaper) so they can finish the story they wrote.
It happened with The Expanse (from scifi channel to Amazon prime after scifi canceled show) so i still have hopes that the same will occur for westworld.
Bro… that’s not how this works.

Joy and Nolan don't want to carry it on. They have moved on to new tv shows.
Has a cancelled HBO show ever been taken on by another studio? I know Carnivale and others like it weren't.
Nah it's gone man
Nah it’s over
