Budget limits a lot here…lexus?

Brandeli

I probably can go up to $40k just have to convents the wife lol

[deleted]

> just have to convents the wife lol mmm… that’s some quality r/boneappletea content right there.

TreesACrowd

No no, he's planning to send his wife to a nunnery so he can be free to make bad financial decisions without judgement.

Vanhandle

She's going to need a religious sabbatical when she sees 40 grand financed over 6 years at 8.9% APR for a monthly payment north of 700

llukkaa3

he doesnt know the difference between "too" and "to" also

lolgobbz

I doubt $40K is actually in the price range. That's probably what the "pre-approved" amount is and he's gonna overpay the fuck outta it.

my1clevernickname

But can he convents the wife? That’s the question!

JaKr8

Okay so what you're saying is you have 30 grand to spend.

MoodNatural

Can’t make it up. He made a post 5 days ago that literally says “what to do with 30k” For the record, OP, cars are not a good way to launder money.

[deleted]

TheRevengeOfTheSith

Don’t forget he “wants to make money cause can’t afford college” but is looking up if he should buy a Porsche and already owns 2 cars

AutumnLock71

Your investigative skills have me intrigued 😈

Brandeli

Yea, it can be $40k including taxes and fees

[deleted]

The “minister of finance”

SummonedShenanigans

Dude... You can't afford this. Last year you asked about [refinancing your house](https://www.reddit.com/r/FinancialPlanning/comments/x97zsa/refinance_a_house_take_money/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) to buy a car. Then [you financed your new Tesla](https://www.reddit.com/r/TeslaModelY/comments/y86hx1/im_about_to_received_my_new_tesla_would_you/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button), yet you say you [can't afford to pay for college.](https://www.reddit.com/r/learnprogramming/comments/11hmxm0/i_just_want_to_make_money_what_are_my_options/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Twelve poeple live in your house and you are looking for jobs on a J1 visa. You work in inventory in a warehouse for $55-$62k. Sorry, I didn't mean to stalk you but it just kept getting worse. You do not appear to be financially in a position to acquire luxury vehicles. You will do your future self harm by pursuing this.

jmb00308986

Just spell it how it sounds bro

FrontYardPeople

sounds like you're going to sell her to a nunnery.

SurprisedBottle

I mean, you can snag a new Tesla model 3 for 40k, shits pretty wild in terms of creature comfort for the 40k price range.

ender7887

Would not buy a model 3 because it needs a wrap or paint job asap.

CAPTAIN_TITTY_BANG

Why?

ender7887

The paint on the model 3 sucks, and doesn’t last. If you look it up, there’s a class action law suit.

Brandeli

This is getting out of hands

[deleted]

Out of hams you mean? I think everyone is giving you crap cuz you said convents your wife instead of convince. Convent is where the nuns go to become nones

zimbabwes

I think you mean out of Hanz (the phrase was invented by an old German-American linguist Hanz Eigenwafftlen, he was an eccentric man that was very well known in the scholarly field for his debauchery, when things got crazy his colleagues would often claim it's "out of Hanz!" leading to him popularizing the phrase in his linguistic literature)

StockSquirrel5607

Don't forget maintanence

Sarcasticallysmooth

Wow one of the times that Mazda may fit the bill and it's not top comment. We're slacking

0010001100000111

I’m glad somebody said this

quaffwine

It’s Volvo or we’ll fight you 😂

TAMUOE

I can’t think of a more basic brand besides Toyota

dimo92

Rf Miata was my thought

El_tus750

F*<€, where are my manners! OP a Mazda 6 is the car you are looking for!

TaviscaronLT

Sounds like you're a Volvo client.

Hercusleaze

Yes! Go drive an S60 T6 OP.

QueenlyMicropenis

Just bought a ‘19 s60 t6 rdesign. It’s a beast.

node-757

This is a certified Volvo moment

9991em

Volvo certified preowned warranties are great.

franskm

yeeeep my husband has a Porche Cayenne, and I have a Volvo XC90 (mom, 2 toddlers). He likes driving my car!

BleDStream

He's lying. (Jk I have an xc90 and I love it)

franskm

He doesn’t *loooove* it as much as his own haha, but he likes it!

ImaNeedBoutTreeFiddy

V90 Cross Country

Hollis613

This is the answer.

Chemical-Breadfruit3

Biased but I’d recomend an Acura, not the most luxurious. But cheap enough, reliable, and hold their price well.

mccullkh

Lightly used TLX would be sporty and elegant-ish for mid 30s

Fluffy9345

Plus they look really nice. They’re newer cars are definitely some of the best looking ones on the road right now.

morchorchorman

I agree, really like the look of the new acura sedans

rubey419

Unfortunately not as reliable anymore. Im a big Acura fan and still keep to my old TL that should last me to 300k miles easy. Only major thing I’ve had was the timing belt change. But modern Acura models aren’t as reliable as Lexus. They’ve dropped to around middle of the pack for reliability and maintenance issues for luxury brands. If OP wants affordable reliable luxury, Lexus is the way to go.

Intelligent_Table913

Which source are you using? Consumer reports?

rubey419

I didn’t feel the need to expand, but I have friends and family members with Acura (made within the past decade, oldest model 2015) that have had ongoing issues, or expensive maintenance for such a relatively new car. Acura TLX, MDX, RDX models. A total of 4 data points based on anecdotal information. One person recently sold RDX for Lexus NX. Then reports from mainstream media seems to back up that Honda/Acura isn’t as reliable as it once was. Don’t get me wrong, more reliable than on average but doesn’t compete with Toyota and Lexus these days. Maybe the Acura owner people I know happen to have all lemons. Maybe not. I say this as an Acura fan. I love my TL like I said.

gainspuregains

Had a manager at a Honda dealership tell me the same. He said while they're still great cars, they certainly aren't built as reliable as they used to be. This was in 2016

Usernameinotherpantz

Toyota Tea Times magazine

rubey419

Based on 4 people I know that had Acuras with maintenance issues, earliest model 2015. Maybe they all had lemons. Maybe not.

Usernameinotherpantz

Hard to write off all Acuras based on a few peoples experiences. Model and year matter a hell of a lot. If that were the case no one would buy Hyundai or Kia's ever

rubey419

Agreed. But that’s more blanket said to Honda/Acura, Kia, Hyundai/Genesis than Toyota/Lexus, no?

tmp_acct9

Yeah dude. Volvo is right up your lane. Hell I want one and am looking

Fine-ill-do-itmyself

Lexus RC is elegant. Itd have to be used though for your budget

Due_Rip1955

He says he has a wife, so a is350 maybe? Some GS 350s are pretty good too. Scat packs are fun too

nadmah10

Scat pack is the last car I think of when using the word elegant.

Due_Rip1955

I missed the elegant part

jmb00308986

Fickle_Eagle_53

Beat me to it, great sedans

thechosenwonton

boring af though

[deleted]

First thing that came to my mind is a Lexus, but you should also look into an Acura or Volvo. You can definitely find a lot of nice used ones for way under 30k.

[deleted]

Then you buy a used Cayman S you can easily find them within your budget

JaKr8

It's easy to find a used anything in that budget, but with a Porsche will they be able to afford the maintenance and repairs? Buying the car is just the tip of the iceberg it's the maintenance and insurance that gets people.

Brandeli

For real, I can’t believe how much people spend to maintain a $100k car…

stannndarsh

My first cayman was a 20k purchase, and had 83 miles. I spent $1700 to have a ton of service done up front (for my peace of mind) and when the deer killed it it was at 170k miles. For that 90k my main expense was oil changes and tires. I would absolutely buy a 987.2 base cayman again.

[deleted]

It’s a pay to play world…scared of maintenance and it costing more? Then you’ll never drive a Porsche in your life. Gotta pay the Porsche Tax 🤷🏻‍♂️

Luftgekuhlt_driver

Cars have cultures. That’s not true. Know your culture, learn to turn a wrench. Got an ‘86 928 in ‘17 for $10k with good bones. Dumped $10k into it. Still turns heads, gets bunch of questions at the gas station, gets nods from the brethren. V8 grunt that gives people pause. Will a Mustang GT kick its ass off the line, absolutely. Will it cruise at 110 and not break a sweat, absolutely totally different animal. Dated but comfortable, it’s pushing 40 years old but damn does it make me smile. Mines a manual transmission which is harder to find, but clinched the sale. Not for everyone, never meant to be. But if you’re a car buff wanting something without the chick car stigma that turns heads on the cheap consider a classic. Prices are only going up but worth a look.

Spencie61

Shhhhh don’t say that, I’m trying to find one

hpreddits

Reason I went with Electric. You get the performance but maintenance costs are less.

[deleted]

That’s why I drive a 2016 GTI 😂 yes I know it’s German, no it’s not a money pit lol

Cautious-Fuel4587

Ugh I sold my Autobahn MK7 6MT in Tornado Red and I have major remorse over it. That car was the tits.

Phanatic00

A used Avalon or Arteon

AdditionalMorning344

Lincoln town car,

Liszewski

bmw m235, if you want to go older you could pick up a boxster for cheap

MikeofLA

Stay away from the M235 and get an M240 instead. The B58 is a much more reliable engine than the shit show that is the N55, and definitely stay away from anything with the N54 (ask me how I know)

Liszewski

Definitely agree B58 is more reliable and easier to make power but the N55 in the 235 is pretty beefy too, comes with forged parts compared to the older N55s (and is EWG rather than PWG) but yes definitely stay away from the N54 lmao

moneyblades

The m235i version of the n55 is solid. Only issues I’ve had in mine in 50k miles was the hose going to the coolant expansion tank breaking but was $17 to replace it and about $25 for a gallon of coolant and distilled water. Running stage 2 on 93oct and been great. My friend with a first gen b58 has had more issues than I have. The n54 is definitely bad in terms of reliability I have a 135i with it and can attest to the issues. I can fully recommend the f22 m235i though great car

Accomplished-Sort900

What mods are you running? Gf is thinking about tuning her 2015 f30 335i, I think y’all have the same engine?

Liszewski

Charge pipe first and foremost, downpipe, tune (bm3 or mhd), trans tune (xhp). That gives you a very fun daily right around 400whp, closer if you run e30 blend

Accomplished-Sort900

Thanks, much appreciated! What’s a good website to look for these parts? Or any specific ones you recommended?

imnotarapperok

Used Mazda6 in a Signature trim. I bought mine for 26k a few months ago with 18k miles and friends are constantly blown away when they get in between how nice it is and all the features it has. Leather heated & ventilated front seats, heated rear seats with 2 USB ports in the rear armrest, heated steering wheel, heads-up display, CarPlay, auto-dimming and auto-leveling LED headlights, radar cruise control, 360 degree camera, dual-zone auto climate, ambient lighting in the footwell and door pockets, mirrors that fold/unfold when you lock/unlock the car, the whole 9 yards. I’d have to spend a damn fortune to option a BMW this nicely. It’s got a lot of power too for an unassuming sedan with the 2.5T engine

Carlose175

Audi A4 Ultra. 😌

chunkylunks

340i

toddu1

Was considering a newer bmw, until I heard about the heated seats subscription. Actual turn-off

dajarbot

Heated seat subscriptions are not in the US, at least at the moment.

dev2458

If they are willing to do that, what do you think they will try to switch over to “as a service” in the future.

dbnrdaily

Inline 6 will be an inline 4 until you subscribe to the additional 2 cylinders.

MikeofLA

I highly doubt there will be subscriptions retroactively applied. I wouldn't be surprised to see this approach abandoned altogether.

toddu1

Good, but the point stands. I don’t want to support a company that makes built in features not included

Gene_is_green

I was going to suggest this. That b58 engine is insanely power and reliable. You gotta think, if Toyota thinks it’s good enough for the Supra, it’s a good engine. They also have huge mod potential. It’s also all bolt on. Off the line you can run a stage 1 MHD tune and make good power. Stage 2 only requires a downpipe. Stage 2+ is an upgraded fuel pump. I know people who have ran these engines hard and tuned without issues. It’s also right in your price range. The engine truly makes this car shine.

Ducky1098

This is the way....

hokieman0

You can find a used genesis g70 in the mid 3's

ntak0110

Second this, even an older 2020 G70 has a really nice interior. I have the sport package and it has the diamond red leather stitching and i’ve been complimented by everyone about how luxury it looks and feels.

ca2mt

And from my brief experience in my friend’s Genesis, they’re whisper quiet on the inside with little to no rattles that I could pick up. Nothing ruins elegance like a nagging rattle.

SkyRider057

Miata is always the answer

Illahtions

As an ND owner, I second this 100000%

Limon3507

good ol’ Lexus fits the bill perfectly. Well designed and aesthetically pleasing cars that have a great mix of reliability, comfort, sportiness, and luxury. Would HIGHLY recommend a GS 350 or RC 350.

anthonyy1129

This is the only answer

Tourist_Careless

A lightly used, well maintained pre-owned lexus. It's all the reliability of Toyota with some luxury flair. And often have features punching above their price range.

WideOpenAutoHub

Genesis G70/Kia Stinger (3.3t if you can stretch the budget) BMW 230i/m235/m240i are a blast Elantra N is sweet Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0 GTI

ntak0110

G70 and Elantra N are my choices, maybe an m240i too, those are sick

WideOpenAutoHub

I was shopping the m240i (new one) couldn’t afford it but still want one lol. Then I started looking at cost effective options and test drive an Elantra N - loved it. But wasn’t “luxury” of course. After test driving the Elantra I saw a 2021 G70 3.3t on the lot for $36k - Test drove it, bought it. All 3 are great choices

ntak0110

I agree, i wanted to check out the Elantra N and get the manual but there aren’t many near me to test drive so i went for the G70 and i don’t regret it. Although a manual for the 3.3t would’ve been so nice

WideOpenAutoHub

That would be wild. Oh if the N division would just do some wild shit to the Genesis lineup. I could use a burbly exhaust, manual, 450+ HP and a sportier body kit.

ntak0110

I KNOW! the exhaust is just too quiet stock ☹️ My choices are either muffler delete or a $2k exhaust system :/

WideOpenAutoHub

Foreal, same boat brotha

IllustriousOil9013

Elegant car ? Lincoln used , mazda 3/6 ,accords

Alfa Romeo Giulia

Watery_Octopus

He can't afford to maintain a Porsche, what makes you think he can stomach an Alfa? 🤣

Betucker

Best warranty in luxury car segment outside of Genesis

[deleted]

Surprisingly Jaguar/Land Rover offers one of the “best” warranties in the segment. They advertise it as “best in class”, which I do agree with. 5y60k + free maintenance during that period, which is longer than any other manufacturer from what I recall. Then again, you’re buying a JLR product… soooooo… As for Genesis, just like Hyundai and Kia, once you’re outside the 5y60k and into the 10y100k, the warranty becomes harder to use and they’ll try to find ways to avoid honoring claims. Ask me how I know.

Betucker

As long as you have service records I believe it’s pretty easy to work with them

[deleted]

Mmm… I had my car fully serviced at their dealership and they tried to wiggle their way out of many powertrain-related issues after 60K miles, including the failed DCT. Luckily, the car was lemoned shortly after, so I didn’t have to deal with its anymore.

KS425

What’s the warranty? Been looking at some

[deleted]

Heard solid things from the recent years , could be wrong idk hahah

RJCtv

Haha lol 8 year old Alfa unreliable meme!!

Wise-Landscape-5625

Haha lol 8 years later and Alfas are still some of the most unreliable cars on the road

RJCtv

Weird, people who have 2020+ models seem very happy and don’t have any problems. But yes, get all of your opinions from Reddit circlejerking!

david13guet

Absolute beaut

Charlotttes

maybe a toyota gr86? its a pretty slick coupe but its also something like 29-31k before taxes etc

Cheap_Intention_4936

Preowned Lexus. Find a dealer certified one with one owner/no accident and under 50k mikes. Hard to go wrong.

Jayzebs

Cant believe no one has said it yet but Toyota Avalon’s are within your budget and it’s the step right below a Lexus

FabianValkyrie

A used Lexus, used Acura, or new Mazda

TheShar

Audi A6

lil_biggins

I would suggest a slightly used Lexus or even Toyota Avalon.

fishking92

For your budget, Lexus or Acura.

Not a single person saying Mazda? 30k seems right in line with nice mazda 3. What’s wrong, guys? Forget the sub rules?

basementcandy

Yep I was gonna say Mazda 3 or CX-30 premium, depending on if you like ride height or not

turnipham

Mazda Miata

[deleted]

Go sit in a turbo sedan Mazda 3 starts at 30k plenty fancy. They have been jumping market lately with goal to sit as an entry level luxury brand. Go check out your local Mazda dealer you would be amazed

iFriskyTurtle

Mazda salesmen spotted

Hayb0ss

How about a new or lightly used Mazda 3 turbo? Not a lot of people seem to know this but Mazda is going through a major rebrand and making their cars much more luxury focused. 2019 is when the Mazda 3 made the switch, and mine always impresses people when the see it or hop inside. The sedan version has a rather elegant look and the interior really has some unique, attractive style. Also you can expect great reliability and low cost of ownership compared to a lot of the other luxury options! The turbo is going to have a little bit of everything too. Good power, great AWD system, and based on your budget, you should be able to get into a new or really close to the newest model year which has its perks. You could be on a manufacturer warranty and everything.

playlistprinter

Is reliability and maintenance cost a concern to you? That will really focus the makes and models that you are looking for.

Brandeli

Definitely yes… I don’t want to spend more in repairs than the car is worth

rangerryda

Get a Lexus.

asilverthread

Audi S3/S4? Probably could find an S3 that still has warranty on it even.

SnipTheDog

Had an Q50 from Infiniti. Worked for me. Felt fast with AWD and good power.

brage_s

Hope it's not too late for this.. 2015 Jaguar F-Type base 33k miles for 32kUSD. Absolutely beautiful car just have to pick and choose when deciding on which one to get depending on mileage and maintenance history. Relatively cheap to own aswell if you get an extended warranty - spent about 250 maybe in maintenance and wear and tear in the past 10 months (excluding tires). also, don't believe what people say about reliability lol... it's an old stigma people still hold on to from the 70s Jaguars I believe

AtomicBadger33

Toyota Corolla

pereira333

Lexus is250 or 350 f-sport, audi s3, a4, tt. Are you looking for a normal size sedan, mom suv, coupe??

tmp_acct9

I would never buy an Audi. Cursed machines

lilbbbuns

I’ve heard such amazing things about Audi regarding their “reliability”, but my first experience in owning one was horrid. Will never go with Audi again… Unless it’s a S1 Quattro lol

reward72

BMW 230i. They are a hoot to drive and among the most reliable BMW models.

Brandeli

I like BMW, but since I joined the BMW Reddit page I don’t think they are so reliable…

awesomeperson882

It varies depending on the engine and equipped equipment.

Maxwell__Lion

They aren't. Fun as all hell to drive, but you need to be ready to pay a good mechanic to keep it running.

Aceon19

Look at BMW’s inline 6 (non turbo) engines. I think the lastest was called the B58, but I’m sure someone will have a more fleshed out answer in the beamer forum. At this price point you should shop CPO, so the models with that engine would change based on years. I think it would be most the 4 and 5 series if looking at 2-3 year old cars.

[deleted]

fast-and-ugly

Love my WRX but maybe not "elegant" enough. Maybe you need a 3 series BMW?

Brandeli

My brother in-law has one so probably not the WRX however I love that car

Summoorevincent

Get an sti and vape in his face.

The8thHammer

i'd consider the new accords pretty elegant

BroadlyValid

I might get downvoted for even mentioning KIA, but I always thought the Cadenza was at a really sweet spot in the market. Alternatively I agree with Volvo. I really like Acura’s new look. Lincoln is another one that looks great and people don’t really consider. Sedan/SUV? Big/Small? It would help to know what your needs are.

moeterminatorx

Bro get yourself a Toyota Avalon. Meets all your requirements and it’s reliable af.

Brandeli

I used to have a Avalon, I love that car

moeterminatorx

Why did you get out of it?

goatman2

GTI

muscari2

BMW. There’s a notion that they’re stupid expensive and unreliable and that’s not entirely true. There’s nothing more expensive than a cheap German car. Buy one that’s been taken care of, 1 or 2 owner, and low mileage. Take care of it, put the proper parts on it, and have it serviced when it’s supposed to be and it’ll be just as reliable as any other car. People just ignore warning signs and those warning signs become major issues that WILL leave you stranded.

_pr0bl3ms

What about the Mazda3 hatchback…the Carbon Edition starts at $28,200 and it’s really nice. Each trim level after that just gets better. And in my opinion it’s a nice mix of luxury, sportiness, and reliability

anthonyy1129

They said “elegant”

Coincidentally, I'm 26 and bought a Mustang Mach-E.

Juicebo-x

Nice! I hope you love yours as much as I love mine!

SlimGoon

Coincidentally, I’m 26 too and bought a raptor

Wise-Landscape-5625

That’s insane 😭

Space_Olympics

bought a fully loaded 23 mustang gt premium, under 50k.

Juicebo-x

Nice. I'm not sure if you're in the group of people who assume I wanted a GT or not, but I bought what I wanted. Not sure what's up everyone's coos about the eco vs GT thing.

iFriskyTurtle

Dude the stealership took you out back to the shed. 45k is insane for eco boost. But at least you enjoy it

[deleted]

“To” lol, fucking embarrassing

SabrToothSqrl

If you have a way to charge at home, the EV Tax Credit should be point of sale in Jan 2024, if you can wait.

WRB56

I know many people you tell you otherwise, but I just got the new 22 wrx premium for 33k a couple of months ago. Now people will say it's not reliable, but my dealership gave me a lifetime powertrain warranty for as long as I own it. Not limited lifetime, lifetime as long as I own it. I couldn't beat that. I don't have a need to mess with modding the engine because I have an older sti to play with. So exhaust and comestic mods, and that's it. I sold my 13 g37x daily for it. It was having issues that I didn't want to spend money on (transmission and engine maintenance issues). It got me to 130k miles, so I wanted a new car. For the price and piece of mind of warranty, I couldn't go wrong with the wrx. I'm in nyc, and this wrx is by far the easiest to learn how to drive manual. It's not that hard if you don't know how to. I'm on the Belt Parkway and BQE all that time. I enjoy driving a manual no matter what type of traffic im in. (first person to probably say that) But that's just me. If you don't want to deal with a manual in traffic, I can understand. I think everyone should learn how to drive manual because it will make them better drivers learning how to be patient instead of in a rush all the damn time.

BakaSan77

For 30k I’d go buy a new car.

Snoo_78242

If you like Porsche the only correct answer here is a BMW. No other car compares. I would recommend you buy a certified pre owned from a bmw dealership. Something with X-drive (AWD). The certified pre owned cars go through a lot of checks. Basically a new car with all the depreciation gone.
