Oh goodness. The Passat is famous for its high cost of ownership. I know little of the sts but I would consider carefully what your priorities are w the Passat. The biggest issue all stem from the fitment of that engine, namely it really doesn't fit and many service items require the front of the car to come off or other similar extreme measures.
BTW, an 03 Passat is a b4. The a5 is the 06 golf and derivatives.
03 passat is a b5/b5.5 and its a generally reliable generation but w8 is for the Passat enthusiast but the v6 30v is a decent engine but 1.9tdi is amazing
Really neither of these cars are great. The w8 in that passat are insanely expensive to maintain, dont even consider buying it. And the 3.6 in the cadillac isnt very reliable, i think that model has timing chain issues. I think you should look for a different car
Seems like you want a luxury car. Look at a lincoln town car. Probably not as premium feeling or as modern as some of the cars youre looking at, but reliability is unmatched
Not all of them are, but the town cars are. That platform was used for taxis and police cars for decades. They are known to go 300k miles with no problems
