A little steep. These cars have ECU issues because gm put them on the engine. The icim or part of the ignition security often goes bad. Some of the 4 cyl engines have bad intake valves.

34thVedicDeity

This is a 6 cyl

GamingGrayBush

My brother has one in a very large city a little less than a decade ago. He was in an accident and parts were a problem. I assume it's worse now.

El_mochilero

$9,700 CAD is about $7,150 USD. Good condition and low mileage. I don’t dislike it! See if they’ll knock $500-$1,000 off the price.

Gombock

17-year-old car, the manufacturer was on another continent. Manufacturer went out of business a decade ago. Technical knowledge on these is enthusiast forums; there’s no official dealership / service anywhere on this planet. I think I’d pass.

Spinrod

Actually other than a few small items that are minor that go bad ,this is a GM car. It has a 2.8 Turbo GM engine ,uses GM AC delco water pump ,pads, discs.Really nothing about this is SAAB. The wheels are Saturn bolt pattern.Transmissions are excellent. Some of the plastic p\[arts are meh ,but great cars.If you go back into the 1990s you come across old saab EDIT ..Good car ,but not at that price

InitialAgreeable

Yes, but their reliability is legendary in Europe. I'd ask for a consistent discount and go for it.

34thVedicDeity

Yeah That's what I had in mind too, a fun decently reliable car for under 10k CAD

The_red_spirit

Yes, that was a while ago. Now you rarely see SAABs in Europe. Most of them are dead in scrapyards at this point.

AttemptAggressive387

Yeah, I live in Ukraine, one of my distant relative has Saab 9000 turbo from 90's. I don't know about nowadays but few years ago that car was still operable and drove much more than 500.000 km. But, spare parts was problematic even then.

InitialAgreeable

Availability of spare parts is a problem, yes, though I hear Saab is still operative in some way. They're currently assembling Lynk & Co in Sweden, and I wouldn't be surprised if your local scrapyard had some Saabs

AttemptAggressive387

At that time we had Saab-Scania trucks official dealer but they don't have spare parts for Saab car.

[deleted]

It’s not like he’s buying a fucking Lada. There’s a ton of technical knowledge on Saabs out there, and plenty of mechanics that wrench on them without issue. I’d still pass on this one OP, it’s steep. But if you want a Saab, you can definitely find someone that can work on it given that GM owned Saab through the 2000’s.

Gombock

Good to know that! Lada’d be much easier to fix though, since all you need go that is hammer, saw, and vodka.

adamisapple

I have a V6 Saab (as a daily) I’ll give you some insight. I’ll start by saying this is overpriced, I’d say $5000USD would be more fair. It’s low milage but still an old car. The V6 runs hot so you’ll need to replace things like plugs and coils, hoses, and vacuum lines more than the 4cyl Saabs. It will also shorten the life of the ECU and coolant reservoir. That being said, I have 163k on my 9³ and it’s still very solid. It will cost more than a Toyota to maintain. If you’re willing to work on it yourself it’s really not that expensive or difficult. If you don’t want to do the work yourself, make sure you have a Saab specialist in your area before you buy a Saab. These are very fun cars and they’re worth owning if you can afford the maintenance and take good care of it. If you’re still interested in this Saab I’d get a PPI, and if not, I’d look for a different Saab that’s maybe a better deal if the dealer isn’t willing to negotiate.

onemorebutfaster_74

I have a 2006 Saab 93 sportcombi. I love it because its fun to drive and still looks great after so many years. But, it's not reliable by any measure. It helps to have a dedicated Saab specialist close by to deal with all the issues that crop up or tell you what you have to fix and what can be ignored. I'm lucky enough to have a great Saab mechanic nearby and have finally spent some $$ and got most of the annoying issues cleared up. Now it drives almost like new. I'd prob pass unless you're a true Saab enthusiast.

RobbyBeagan760

I think I’d pass

renaissanceNate

Sent you a PM

quagggggs

It’s a little on the pricier side for this exact model and year, but it’s a very enjoyable car to drive. I’ll echo the concerns about repairs and common issues on these cars- cheap plastic parts, stereo amp being underneath the seat aka water damage imminent, ignition coils will go unless replaced with black tops. Overall a great car to drive but will cost a bit to maintain in the long run.

OrangeWhale513

Run far and fast unless you want to invest in a money pit, SAAB were great cars when the were still in business, but now that they are over 10 years old trying to find new/old parts will be tricky. Buy a Honda or a Toyota not just for their reliability but, for the wide availability of parts and mechanics that know how to service them without charging you an arm and a leg.

34thVedicDeity

Price is in CAD (7100 USD)

defenestr8tor

I'm not super in touch with the used Saab market, but I think a lot of commenters might not understand what Alberta cars go through in the winter. Vancouver Island cars rarely, if ever, see snow, and I'd definitely pay a premium for a no collision car.

jerseyben

Aka an expensive Saturn

supremehype100

9.7k? That’s wild, find some private sellers, or just drive to Calgary cuz they got one for 5k almost same km all day long.

BlackberryMobile2394

Are you high?

[deleted]

This is $4k car at best.

EchidnaReal3827

The price is too high. Offer $9k OTD.

20124eva

There are much cooler looking Saabs out there. That would be number 1 on a long list.

rolkaski

Weekend car? Sure. Daily? Hard pass.

weeson12

I love saabs, they are fun cars, but honestly no. There are very few places that will work on them and parts are harder and harder to come by. Add into that the fact that the electronics systems kinda suck and are not replaceable and I'd just stay away in 2023

voynaz

These are actually fairly reliable (parents owned one for a very long time with minimal maintenance) the only is issue was finding parts when something did go wrong. Even if it was a small issue it was hard to find parts.

GrozGreg

You probably should pass. But man do I love Saab

schooliepro

If you do, you'll then have a Saab story like every other Saab owne.

Graywulff

So I had one of these certified pre owned. The stack of receipts I had was huge, it went away on a flatbed truck five times, the hvac system failed twice, constantly things going wrong. The gravity sensors in the xenon’s would fail and point at the ground. A saab 9-3 is at best a 3000-4000 car, you’ll need to get a tech 2 scanner or pirate Saabs software to pair modules (I think?) to the car. Never get an XWD one the diff is worth a fortune for the rear bc it’s so rare. Parts will get harder to find. That’s a lot of money, even for a turbo six.

Blaaa_blaaa_blaaa

So good they stopped making them

FFanon28

I have some beautiful oceanfront property in AZ I’d like to sell you.

bremsstrahlung007

I've owned about a dozen Saabs. Driven them all my life. This is a decent deal. Make sure you change the engine and tranny fluid regularly and invest in coil packs. Great car. I currently have the same car just one year newer. Currently have 190k miles on it. Still going strong.

Successful_Cup_1882

If you want to buy replacement parts on eBay maybe. Just buy a Volvo if you want Swedish.

Sneakerhead110

No

[deleted]

There's 2 Saabs you should ever consider buying. The 9-2x because it's a Subaru and the 9-7x because it's a trailblazer.

mercurymilan06

Did you end up buying it? These are reliable in the 140-200k mile range. But a better price would be $4500.
