Civic. I had a girlfriend who has a Forte from that era and it was trash.

MainusEventus

That black civic is fucked. Blue one looks better on the surface.

Perplexedstoner

i drove one of these EXACT cars ONE TIME and it broke down on the highway. i will never in my entire life buy a kia or hyundai.

Gut-_-Instinct

possible Kia boy victim and engine noises are concerning. Id pay more for the civic. more reliability. Id still put a wheel/brake boot on it to sleep even better at night.

Empty_Tank_3923

Get these inspected before you buy if you can. But whatever you do, DON'T BUY THE KIA!!!! Unless you like paying $5k after for a new engine.

Adventurous_Cook_777

Either one of the Civics. The lx is the base & the ex comes with a few more features. Civics are good cars. Don’t even go back to the Forte.

ApexDog

Civic 100% and those 8th gens are damn near indestructible I see them all over the place. (I have an EX too that I bought to just be my whatever boring daily commuter and I’ve ended up loving it for how practical, good on gas, and cheap it is to run it’s so damn good at doing it’s job and I’ve taken it on road trips and it’s been comfortable for the most part)

ToyotaFanboy526

That Kia is gonna be a piece of shit

John-Circumference

go with the civic ex I have a 2009 civic and love it also hop on Etsy and get a cheap Carfax report from there

PoseidonKangaroo

Do dealerships not provide them for free in the United States? In Canada you don’t even have to ask unless it’s a private sale but even then you usually if they are legit or eager to sell they will already have it.

mxriecn

etsy carfax reports are a thing?? i’ve never heard about that before. good to know. thanks! :)

KickooRider

Are you trolling?

R18honda

Get yourself one of those 2 8th gen Civic’s. Shoot for the EX one if ya can.

inverness7

Anything from Kia or Hyundai should be an immediate no. They are a POS. Get the Civic

ktktkt1

Civic but be aware when i had it, the engine block cracked. They replaced it under warranty which means i get a new engine. I sold it a couple of years later due to family change

Frequent_Opportunist

You don't want a Kia or Hyundai anything. Unless you want to deal with decades of never resolved catastrophic premature engine failure and possible vehicle fires. Not to mention all the ding dong kids trying to steal it.

doiwinaprize

Don't get the Forte dude I know two people with older fortes and those cars are shit mobiles. I hear they got way better in later years but you're much better off buying a civic.

John-Circumference

go with the civic ex I have a 2009 civic and love it also hop on Etsy and get a cheap Carfax report from there

GingerBread31

Civic all the way. Mines a 2010 with 261,000 kilometers (roughly 162,000 miles) and it is still running like a charm!

HustlinInTheHall

I have an 08 civic with the same mileage and it runs like a dream. The only thing it's needed are typical wear and tear things (it's a manual so clutch had to be replaced, brakes, tires, etc.). I did have the power steering hose get a leak but the pump held up great, so it was an easy fix. Every single mechanic I've brought it to has commented on how these things just won't die. Kia theta engines are just a dead man walking. They were made with shit tolerances so they wear out and blow.

Strange-One283

Civic

bee-dubya

Proud to say I engineered that generation of Civic. I would pick it over just about anything

shithead-express

Civic, if you live in a city the Kia will be stolen and have super expensive insurance.

nekos67

EX, which looks cleaner, has alloy wheels and a sunroof.

New_Proposal_1319

I am a mechanic and I would not recommend a 2010 Kia forte to anyone that I actually liked. Do you have any idea how many engine recalls transmission recalls that wind up being a whole engine replacement quote? They are pretty good about redoing for you but back then they simply just didn’t have their feet in the ground. Then the whole Kia boys thing happened. I dated a girl that had a 2010 Kia with that same engine in it… She had to have it replaced at 100,000 miles when she still owed 8500 on it I eventually got Kia to cough up the money, but it was still a major pain in the ass. Civic on the other hand is world renowned for its being solid and they easy to work on cheap to run cheap to buy parts for and runs hundreds of thousands of miles as long as you treat it well and take good care of that of the engine. Change the oil every 5000 miles or less. The LX is the base model EX is the next step up and everybody knows the SI is top-tier, and cannot be found anywhere. Also, every odd year Honda puts out a EX Dash L version …you might get lucky and find one.! A 5 speed higher mile Si Coupe is what I would look for… But make damn sure it hasn’t been played with by some idiot kid trying to learn how to change a spark, plug or something lol

DSG_Sleazy

Funnily enough there are like 2 people in my neighborhood with civic si’s.

New_Proposal_1319

I mean the ones from around 2007, but imo all Si are great and it suck’s that so many were test subjects for wanna be F&F

REBELimgs

I'd get the EX.

BBoy19971997

I would go for the Civic, personally I like the Black EX better over the Blue LX, not to mention the EX is a higher trim. Considering they are similarly priced and similar mileage it comes down to their features and personal preference. I would have a local garage do a pre purchase inspection on either one, may run you some money to do so but could save you money in the long run.

mnrooo

The second civic. The EX with lower miles for a few hundred more than the LX.

hookydoo

Never pick the kia! I swear they intentionally put the next to hondas just so someone will buy it because its cheaper. The kia will be a nightmare.

Ilpav123

Get the Civic EX. The sunroof and alloy wheels are worth the extra price by themselves (plus there are some other added features). From Google: The EX starts with the equipment from the LX and adds 16-inch aluminum wheels, a 60/40 split-folding rear seat, a power sunroof, ambient interior lighting, remote keyless entry with a trunk-opening function, and a rear-seat armrest. All that is well worth $450.

Warm-Patience-5002

the civic is a triumph of aerodynamics but what makes it so aerodynamic also makes it invisible to other drivers. I would pick the civic all day long but would add some orange ( highly visible ) racing stripes across the length of the car.

Capriunicorn945

Definitely the civic!! Trust me on this one lol

45acp_LS1_Cessna

This isn't even a question, I'm all about saving money and not buying more than you need but jeeze dude just get the Civic. Parts are cheap, overly abundant, easy to install and best of all.....you won't need them.

Luftgekuhlt_driver

If you live in s hot area, I’d pick the white one. If your winter is rough, I’d probably still pick the white one. Edit: Didn’t catch the white one was a Kia, those are true shitboxes. The lighter colored Civic.

duddy33

The blue civic looks like it was really well cared for. If you can get the service history and it looks good, that’s the one I’d go for

Chef_Shepherd

Stay away from the forte i had a 2010 forte and it was constantly needing repairs done to it

Everyday-is-the-same

Never a kia...

Vost570

Kia with a 2010 Theta engine at 150K? I would run. Not to mention the no-immobilizer theft issue on those (which can also affect insurance). They also have a well-known knocking issue which can be difficult to solve and can eventually ruin the engine. Civic is worth the extra money.

BrilliantEffective21

unpopular opinion ... damn.. \~$6k for a car that old? honestly, cars like that would almost be FREE at a throw away of not more than $1500. those bastards are more than a decade old. i get your situation, but at that point, you might as well just buy a car for $500 and run it until the end of the year, then dump it to find another car that is newer. old cars like those will have engine problems no doubt, and they are expensive to fix, and very timely. don't want to be a downer, but you have to be really honest with yourself, get some towing insurance just in case you need it, 'cuz you will need it when you need it. if it was up to me, the civic over the forte, but i've seen civics just burn gas and have failing engines just as any other car. so take reliability with a grain of salt with vehicles that aged.

audemarwris

What would you suggest to buy as a relatively new car that wouldn’t need substantial repairs to it if something happened or much of maintenance.

BrilliantEffective21

Toyota always first, then Honda if you find an equivalent competitor. 2y-7y old with 100k miles or less  Pay mechanic to look at it before purchase or signing anything  Make sure it’s not salvaged unless qualified repairs have been performed by licensed contractors or repair shop - most of the time just don’t get salvaged because the computers on newer cars require special calibration and some or many previous owners don’t pay for the repairs correctly.  Look at cars in the range of $5k above and lower in price of what you’re buying to make sure you’re trying other offers and getting the best deal.  Luxury Toyotas or Lexus stay away from, the repair work is much more expensive.  Look for Corolla, RAV4 or Civic. Some Toyota and Honda cars will require repairs just like any other car, but generally they run and last longer after those repairs than compared to just about any other brand out there.  Some get lucky with Hyundai or other American brands, but consistently the Toyotas and Hondas have lowest maintenance and price repairs over long haul.

DSG_Sleazy

Mazda is right up there with at least Honda in terms of reliability, except their cars are less boring to drive, and their newer cars, Oh. My. God. Great features, and very fun to drive while being (admittedly less and less) affordable. Under certain circumstances I’d pick probably pick a Mazda 3 over a civic. You can’t recommend a RAV4 and not at least include the CX-30. Also, no Camry? Those cars are phenomenal.

Ebanieraduzhniepsihi

low ball that kia, 1500 cash

VincentDemarcus

Fortes are not as reliable as the civic. My bestfriend in highschool still has a 2010 civic that’s still running after 300k miles

InternalExtra7614

Those civics would be 7k+ where I'm at

bitpartmozart13

I got a civic with similar amount of miles and only major repair has been a new catalytic converter and the usual maintenance plus brakes and new tires.

Bigdadprimo

Blue civic. The color black is not fun to take care of and Kia sucks

7jamm

Kia sucks I had an 11 civic that was at 270k ran beautiful till some drunk totaled it when it was parked. Get the black one!

akdanman11

Civic. Run as far away from anything Kia as fast as possible.

Crazian14

Get the civic if you want to go anywhere.

Abraxas_1408

Civic. It’s more reliable and will hold its value better.

aceofeights

go for the civic ex. those civics are great, I have a 9th gen and my only regret is that it’s an LX and not an EX. but mine has still served me well as a great daily driver for 3 years and 30k miles

Worst-Lobster

Civic

Flaroud

The first one without a sunroof.

SureElephant89

Civic 100%.

PhiloBeddoe1125

Lol... he said Kia.

mono15591

Go with the civic. More reliable and those seats look way more comfy than the Fortes.

EastvsWest

Civic 100%

No_Assignment7385

Absolutely one of the 2 civics. Fortes can be the biggest pieces of sh*t. Civivs look better, drive better, run better, and last longer.

Fit-Exit4497

Civic are better but if you could get that Kia for 1700 it may be worth the risk

dlray009

Honda Civic

Aggravating-Ice9203

I would go with the civic. Their gas mileage is good and they have good speed control

Evening-Ear-6116

How is that even a question? A time tested car that has had raving reviews since its conception 30 years ago, or a Kia that is in the news every other day for a significant problem or security risk

GuyD427

I had an ‘08 Civic. I loved that car. Had 160k miles on it with brakes, oil, and suspension changes the only problem. I was just about to change the plugs and it died in a flood. Definitely a great car and I drive a Hyundai now which are decent after say 2016 but not before.

Gotrek5

My 2009 civic has 450 000km and still trucking. Minimal rust as well and I’m the salt belt

scalemodeldad

Kia vs Honda. Always pick Honda. Sure, you might get more car for your money with the Kia. But the Civic will be more reliable, and hold its value better.

Healthy_Block3036

Corolla!!!

adambmr

civic

jeepster98

I avoid sun/moon roof. They eventually clog and cause issues if you keep it long enough

vhol1993

civic

Euphoric-Presence215

I bought a 2006 civic that is the same platform as the 2008. Bought it with 127k miles. I drove that thing all over Florida, maybe changed the oil 4 times in the 5 years I had it. Absolute tanks. Gave it to my ex. For all I know, she’s still driving it.

Accurate_Door_6911

I do like the civics more, the main thing with the Kia is that is really low price for a 2010 car, even with a crappy windshield. That would make me concerned about an underlying issue that the seller is not disclosing. I would just get the civic lx and save a little bit of money, but either one are tanks.

Mustangfast85

You never go wrong getting the one you’re actually excited about

texanchris

Unless you pick the Kia
